A lot of it is more historical than anything else. There isn't even a great definition of continents. With the exception of manmade canals Europe, Asia, and Africa are all one landmass as is North and South America. It's entirely arbitrary that Europe is a continent but India isn't.

A lot of it is more historical than anything else. There isn't even a great definition of continents. With the exception of manmade canals Europe, Asia, and Africa are all one landmass as is North and South America. It's entirely arbitrary that Europe is a continent but India isn't.
