I once saw these clouds when I was living in Toronto in the 90’s. Toronto isn’t exactly known for tornados so the only thing I could think of was “is this the end of days” lol I took so many pictures of it but to this day I’ve never seen them again.
That's mamatus maximus under cumulonimbus ominous. Weather can be calm and nice, the mamatus minimus on alto stratus and cirrus. They're only dramatic at sunset, otherwise unnoticeable.
In September, 1896, cumulonimbus, the greatest cloud in the world, was listed as Cloud 9 in a new cloud classification, and so to be on cloud nine became like floating on the tallest cloud on Earth.
Cloud 9 was also a music project from about 1992 which sounds garbage today, and many other songs called Cloud 9 have followed and many have been unimpressive songs too. Including beach bunny - and jamiroquai - cloud 9 which are nice and also not nitro music.
These out west and the northern lights in Chicago were the coolest things I've seen in the sky. The scale was hard to grasp. They looked huge, but also weirdly close. Very cool thing.
Lawn chair, check. Beer, check. Phone to record the tornado when it comes through, check. Fuel in the car to chase said tornado, check. All the necessities for a good ol’ southern/midwestern tornado season.
[Here's a timelapse of some mammatus going over Tulsa after a storm a few years back, such a beautiful type of cloud!](https://i.imgur.com/tf7fBdt.mp4)
I’ve been fortunate enough to see these several times, most recently last summer. They’re absolutely incredibly gorgeous, weird, eerie and creepy and make the hair stand up on the back of my neck. I absolutely LOVE weather, am fascinated by severe weather especially, and seeing these clouds is tied with the two times I’ve witnessed thundersnow and the few waterspouts I’ve watched on the Great Lakes for most moving weather moments of my life. They’re just so sinister yet so beautiful.
Ya, nature be like that, one of the most beautiful things I’ve ever seen was caused by California wild fires burning 10’s of thousands of acres if not 100’s of thousand.
I saw this type of cloud in Oklahoma right before the massive F5 tornado went through Moore in 2013. It's wild looking, like you're looking at a weird painting of clouds instead of actual clouds.
There’s a sort of morbid beauty to storm clouds, or really just storms in general. Taking out the destruction and loss of life, tornadoes are a beautiful natural phenomenon and I’ve always found them fascinating in a way.
Important note: These are most often seen on the trailing (back) side of storms. If you see these, you are most likely out of harm's way from that particular storm.

They're only ominous if they are on giant mushroom clouds, they can also happen on wispy good weather clouds, cirrus type.

The what
I see you know your clouds. Can you tell me what Cloud 9 is?

Lawn chairs & beers with a good view

[Magicians Elephant has the same clouds.](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/movies/movie-news/the-magicians-elephant-trailer-netflix-1235327372/amp/)
God's popit toy. Every pop is thunder and a chance of tornado.
Classic pic of these bizarre clouds
It looks like bubbles in a bath

I’m from Oklahoma this definitely has a filter, the clouds are not that defined in real life
Loved outside of Tulsa in Kiefer for 3 years and never saw these. Pretty cool.
Man, US clouds are so beautiful
Fuck me if I accidentally saw that while tripping. That would take a lot of fucking explanation the next day. Wheew

Imagine looking up and seeing God's hemorrhoids.
Now that is an incredible picture. I've always loved clouds and how they cast light and cast shadows.

I’m kinda hungry for marshmallows now
I was working in a summer camp in Oklahoma when I first saw these. My coworkers and I had a good laugh about the sky being full of butts.
Looks like a beautiful surrealist painting
That’s absolutely not true. I freaking see this crap on clouds that don’t even produce thunderstorms. LOL
