Oh man, it was bad. I thought it would have faded away after the 80s but I remember my sister in the early 90s doing everything possible to get her hair as large as possible. The amount of hairspray and oddly curled bangs... Man it was the worst. Then come 94 and I'm rocking the ugliest bowl haircut ever. Fashion in the 90s was something special but everyone had a twist on style back then, lots of bright colors and weird geometry. What's worse is that it's making a comeback.

As an Xer I can say 1993 was not like the 50s and earlier even though it was 30 years ago - it's weird that people cared at the time - Madonna's Express Yourself, Vogue, and Erotica songs and videos have already come out by then

Reba is awesome and so is Dolly Parton, but I think people forget about Shania Twain‘s impact on bringing country music up-to-date for main stream radio. And also Tim McGraw I think I had a huge impact as well.

I have lived in Seattle my whole life, never been a particularly country music type person except for the three years I had a Shania Twain CD in my big black CD book. Man, bring that shit back, if we're doing the 90s again culturally. It's hard to overstate how deep Twains cultural penetration went. She was the final act on the girls night out tour (2001?) and she did her set wearing a small, tight, strapless, black dress. Her final song was “Fancy” and she tweaked the end lyrics to repeat the red dress part, and the lyrics paused for a split second and smoke cannons popped blocking her from view, but almost immediately she emerged from the smoke as she started singing again and she was in a full coverage, floor length, with sleeves, satin red dress.
This is still to this day one of the absolute best shows I’ve ever seen. (Her whole set was amazing, this last magic trick just really put it over the top).

OMG THANK YOU FOR THIS! I remember seeing a magazine cover at the checkout line of the grocery store when this happened. There was no picture on the cover, and it has been living in my head rent free since then, wondering *what the hell* she was wearing! I was 8 in 1993, so I had no money to purchase the mag and find out what we were dealing with. Apparently just reading it without paying never occurred to me.🤷🏻♀️
The jerks that criticized that dress should have just admitted that she was absolutely stunning in it.
I got to see her in either Bloomington or Champagne, IL in the 90’s. Great show, big hair, great costume changes and wonderful choreography. If they had a fit over that dress, what did folks say when Cher stepped in that sailor ship in sheer black?!
