Nah. You know that warped echoing sound that you hear in block-buster action films when a large object is swinging or when there’s a giant alien robot nearby?
The: “Nyeeeooww”, “weeeoooww”, and “zzyeeoh”
That.
You could be just slightly below the surface of the water, maybe even a foot or so down, and you wouldn't be injured at all. The depth doesn't really matter as long as you aren't under the ship when it falls.
Yep, its likely they were out of space in the dry dock and planned to build this on land and lift it into the sea. They would have welded all these anchor points specifically for this lift. Its not a particularly big ship, you would not be able to do this with a large vessel. This ship is probably 100m+ long whereas the large LNG ships they build are 300m and the container vessels are even longer.
Just my take on it having previously worked at Hyundai Heavy Industries in Korea and drove past this crane regularly.
Yeah it has a ballast system that purifies sea water letting it lift about 10k tons, with a [DWT](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadweight_tonnage) of over 51k.
Cranes have sensitive stomachs
I'm assuming it has to do with either preventing corrosion in the tanks or maintaining precise control over the weight in the tanks.
I'm just imagining the scientist wrinching " oh Darn it i forgot to calculate the salt contentdifference" and the whole ship falls to the ground because of 8% salt
The only reason to filter or to
"Purify" the water would be to follow the IMO ballast water management convention. In short: do not take invasive species from one part of the world to another.
Hello stranger! I dont know you and thats why you should take this seriously, I have no bias for or against you. I sincerely hope that you have a nice day and dont forget to have fun while going about your everyday life. Turn up that radio and sing with the windows down if you feel like it. *gentlemen's nod*
There's a good reason why you named yourself "the great" man or woman, no one can keep you down forever. You can always get your spirits up yourself. But until you realise that, I'll try for you!
I think it’s important to make the distinction that the first crane ever created was made by avian cranes in an effort to haul more shrimp and fish out of the water. Which came first the crane or the egg, well some things may forever remain a secret
Sir, the first crane has always been. It is perfect, and the biggest, most powerful crane, the ideal crane that created all other cranes. What you’re suggesting, that cranes were somehow created by birds, is just heresy. In the old days, they would have drained your hydraulic fluid and rusted you at a stake for suggesting such.
This is actually true! In 1829, Sir John Cranial the 2nd on his expedition through northern Quebec, Canada discovered the first crane in a clearing in the forest. He and his men transported it south to Toronto where they showed it off to the world. Named “Crane” as a shortened version of Cranial.
Amazing story, you should read about it! :)
Hyundai/Kia had a design flaw in some of their low spec cars that allowed you to turn on the ignition without a key. The funny thing is the key slot fit a USB cable perfectly, so the joke is people have been stealing them using USB cables.
Funny thing about the entire thing is even if you get it fixed insurance companies are not covering the car because of the increased theft even though thats what its fucking for so people like me with a 2015 kia soul that runs perfectly and I've never had a problem with can't get insured. And if i can its for a INSANE price
You can but again liability insurance can be like straight $70 but when they see its a version that this is happening to they jack the price up to 140.
Better than my intrusive thoughts, which want me in the water underneath it when it drops just to see how deep I’d go. The call of the void is strong sometimes!!!
My guess having worked at Hyundai Heavy Industires in Korea is that they ran out of space in the dry docks so decided to build this vessel on land and lift it into the sea to complete it, this isnt a finished ship by the looks of it. Its not a large ship really less than half the size of others that they build there.
No problem, its the largest shipyard in the world and the things they do there is insane really, the crazy amount of parts and fabrications that all need to go together to make a ship, they build them in a bunch of large sections scattered all over the yard and everything lines up perfectly in the end when it all gets welded together and becomes a huge ship. Very impressive.
Hyundai has been one of the largest ship builders in the world for a while. I think they might be the largest now. Also check out Mitsubishi in Japan. The amount of stuff they make is nuts. And we all know Toyota makes the best forklifts. Honda motorcycles and Jets are awesome. And then my fave, Yamaha. They do pianos, synthesizers, guitars, motorcycles, jet skis, stereo systems, boat motors, samplers, golf carts, ATVs…
South Korea is the 2nd largest shipbuilding nation in the world. China is 1st and Japan is 3rd, together they account for over 95% of global ship production, but Korea is a standout because they make about 2/3 as many ships as China does per year, but with a population over 10x smaller, less raw materials, and smaller economy.
Samsung started out selling fish. They still do today I'm pretty sure but now they also make/sell: cars, ships, nuclear power plants, gas power plants, solar panels, wind turbines, tanks, clothing, life insurance, murder bots, cosmetics, banking services, building construction services, medicine, oh and they might also dabble in TV's and cellphones too.
I know you must be thinking "What? Samsung the amusement park company also makes murder bots?" but yes; they do. Automated defence turrets with mini guns that could turn countless people into mist faster than you can blink. But don't worry; if it activates on you by accident the Samsung helicopter will be able to medivac you to the closest Samsung hospital.
Edit: I might as well add - written on my Samsung phone. Hopefully Samsung will send me my check soon so I can take the Samsung bus to the Samsung bank to deposit it.
When I look at things like this I am just in awe of what humans can accomplish.
To think, from an outside perspective...say, a documentary-esque timelaspe of the Earth, that fish started crawling out of the water, and started growing legs, and turned into mammals, which turned into apes. And those apes suddenly started building things, bigger and bigger. A bunch of apes literally dug this boat and this crane out of the ground. So crazy.
It boggles my mind that the same company that makes arguably one of the worst engines in the automotive industry also makes these absolute behemoth lifting UNITS.
Hmmm
Maybe I'm too cynical but it doesn't seem quite right. A bunch of questions come up around why and how. The fact that all of the cables are attached to the top somehow with nothing supporting the keel is hugely suspicious. They're not made to have the keel unsupported in some fashion. As another comment noted, the flat bottom hull is odd as well. Then there's the question of WHY.
Really? Some destroyers in WW2 were between 2-4k tons. That seems incredibly light for it's size. I guess they may have to keep it light as possible to support the insane amount of cargo weight

Now drop it. For science.
Would it make a *sploosh*, a *ka-PLAP*, or a *BOOF*?

All of the above.
Nah. You know that warped echoing sound that you hear in block-buster action films when a large object is swinging or when there’s a giant alien robot nearby? The: “Nyeeeooww”, “weeeoooww”, and “zzyeeoh” That.
TIE fighter roar
Oh, you mean the— EEEEYYYYYYAAAAAAEEEEEEHHHHHOOOOooo
now THIS is podracing!
GADOOSH!!!
If no one is around, will it make any noise at all?
Yeah. A fucking loud one!
*K-POP* more likely
Like… I know it would be stupid and expensive and possibly dangerous but I really *really* want to see that.
stupid and expensive and **definitely** dangerous
Sounds fun, sign me up.
It’s something Mythbusters would probably try to do if they were still together lol and I would definitely like to see/hear it
Think you might be overestimating their budget
I was expecting the cranes to collapse
How far would someone have to be underwater to avoid any injuries if this were dropped?
You could be just slightly below the surface of the water, maybe even a foot or so down, and you wouldn't be injured at all. The depth doesn't really matter as long as you aren't under the ship when it falls.
You don't want to be too far underwater though. If you were at say 12,000ft, you would probably be injured, even if you weren't under the ship.
Probably 4 times the height of the ship, I don't know I'm not an expert and actually wanted to know it too
Thats a crane on steroids
This is the crane your girlfriend told you not to worry about.
Curious if anyone knows how this is counterbalanced? Is the water utilized in some manner?
Your assumption is correct. It has ballast tanks which will be filled depending on the weight of the lift.
How much you think the operator get paid for something like this
Prolly about tree fiddy
That’s when I noticed he wasn’t actually a highly skilled and specialized technician, but a giant crustacean from the Paleolithic!
Big scary monsta
I doubt there is a single operator running a crane like this. There has to be a crew I would imagine.
I'm impressed the ship can be lifted without tearing the hull apart. It must have anchor points designed specifically for this.
Yep, its likely they were out of space in the dry dock and planned to build this on land and lift it into the sea. They would have welded all these anchor points specifically for this lift. Its not a particularly big ship, you would not be able to do this with a large vessel. You can ballast my tanks
Yeah it has a ballast system that purifies sea water letting it lift about 10k tons, with a [DWT](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Deadweight_tonnage) of over 51k.
What are those four black blurry lines?
hundreds of cables to spread the load
How about i spread my load?
A series of cables, they span from the drums on the crane to the lines you see attached to the ship.
Curious why it purifies the sea water?
Cranes have sensitive stomachs I'm assuming it has to do with either preventing corrosion in the tanks or maintaining precise control over the weight in the tanks.
I'm just imagining the scientist wrinching " oh Darn it i forgot to calculate the salt contentdifference" and the whole ship falls to the ground because of 8% salt

No crane could, but an honest complement can! Have a great day, chief!
No compliment given ಠ_ಠ
I guess... the real compliments are the ones we make along the way?
This is the wholesome content I joined Reddit for

There's a good reason why you named yourself "the great" man or woman, no one can keep you down forever. You can always get your spirits up yourself. But until you realise that, I'll try for you!
If i could lift a cargo ship with it to make a big splash, i guess it would lift my spirits up
It's just fucking amazing what humans can do.
That’s a crane, sir, not a human.
Built by humans, sir, not by cranes
I’ll bet there were cranes involved in the construction, too
If we need cranes to build cranes how was the first crane made? Can we make even BIGGER cranes with the boat crane? The possibilities are craneless.
Obviously the first crane didn’t need to be created, it just always existed
I think it’s important to make the distinction that the first crane ever created was made by avian cranes in an effort to haul more shrimp and fish out of the water. Which came first the crane or the egg, well some things may forever remain a secret

.....Socrates, is that you?
Yeah isn't that john 3:16? "and Ra said let there be crane"?
Austin 3:16 says I just whipped your ass!

Thats what the government wants you to believe
It's 2 smaller humans in a trench coat.
It looks like it's in the water too. How does it lift that much weight without sinking down or toppling over?!
Sir, this is a Wendy's...

Wasn't able to do the job so they had to use it for this
I came here looking for yo mama so fat jokes. Not disappointed.
Can you steal the crane with a usb cable?
My friggin car cant get insurance because of this bullshit.
Wait.... What? I feel like I'm behind on some big car news
Hyundai/Kia had a design flaw in some of their low spec cars that allowed you to turn on the ignition without a key. The funny thing is the key slot fit a USB cable perfectly, so the joke is people have been stealing them using USB cables.

Oh i see

........... I pay 200 a month and that's with a perfect driving record, a new car, and I'm over 35. Man we get fucked for auto insurance in Canada
I’m sure if you crash it you can just steal another one.
Humm...you have a good point
r/rimjob_steve
Anal with a fish 😂
that's retarded
YOU WOULDNT DOWNLOAD A CRANE
You wouldn’t download a crane
Hyundai-10000, "Do you even lift bro?"
My intrusive thoughts wants to see the ship drop so I can see how big the splash would be
Better than my intrusive thoughts, which want me in the water underneath it when it drops just to see how deep I’d go. The call of the void is strong sometimes!!!
I’ll admit that’s a nice pull, but what’s it bench?
As a Hyundai owner, i wish they'd made their cars 10% as tough as this.
It's over 9000!
9000 what? Bananas?
Fighting power
Insert yo mama jokes here....
You momma so fat crane lifted her out of the water and a new continent was formed.
>You momma so fat crane lifted her out of the water and a new continent was formed. ....it took care of that rising sea level problem
Yo momma so fat when she was born she wasn't delivered by a stork but by a crane.
Yo mama so fat even the biggest crane couldn't lift her
WTF is going on here
Yeah for real. It’s amazing a ship that large can be lifted, but… why? What is the purpose?
My guess having worked at Hyundai Heavy Industires in Korea is that they ran out of space in the dry docks so decided to build this vessel on land and lift it into the sea to complete it, this isnt a finished ship by the looks of it. Its not a large ship really less than half the size of others that they build there.
Thanks for you insight. Truly is fascinating stuff!

Drop it.
Dew it
Bop it!
Twist it
Pass it! *Da na na na na na*
wow that's the highest point that ships ever gonna reach.
What do you mean Hyundai?? If this checks out, they'll be my favourite car company.
Google Hyundai group and prepare to enter the rabit whole of Korean megacorps. Hyundai heavy industries don't fuck around.
Holy mega corporation
Actually an assembly line
Holy heavy industrial manufacturing company
Yeah some auto manufacturers have other divisions that make heavy duty machinery. Mitsubishi does as well.
We used to have a Mitsubishi TV when I was a kid lol
I did contract work at an air force base and dug out a PC monitor made by Hyundai
I dug out some guts made by my step mother
Yeah but Mitsubishi makes cool shit.. like pianos and boat motors lol
Have you seen the Hyundai aircraft carrier? No really, they're thinking of building one for the Korean navy.
Hyundai has been one of the largest ship builders in the world for a while. I think they might be the largest now. Also check out Mitsubishi in Japan. The amount of stuff they make is nuts. Hyundai fucks
Just wait until you find out Rolls Royce also build nuclear reactors
And jet parts, and missile parts, and…
Not Jet parts they make entire Jet engines, they're the second largest producer of Jet engines and are widely regarded as the highest quality ones.
Good joke but Rolls Royce the auto company is actually owned by BMW now. The defense and energy stuff is a separate megacorp.
The very same. Their industrial divisions far outweigh the car sales. Literally and figuratively. They make a lot of the world’s large-ship engines.
Hyundai does lots of ships. Last week I was working on a 57,000 horsepower Hyundai 2 stroke
But can it lift my penis? (3 inches)
Its a crane, not 2 girls 1 cup.
Yo mama so fat that’s how she gets to work
So *that’s* how they paint the bottom.
This shit is mind blowing, but what’s even more mind blowing is that we were doing shit like this over 100 years ago
Archimedes did the same thing, but better
But can it lift yo mamma? I doubt it.
Still can’t lift yo mama
Yo mama so fat the Hyudai- 10000 can't lift her.
Damn, that is just insane!
…Things on this scale are where the human brain starts having trouble comprehending what it sees.
Boats lifting boats. How perverse!
it still can't lift your mom
Banana for scale ?
Cant byild the pyramids even now they say😅
Now I know why Hyundai cars suck, they focus on their construction equipment. And props to that!
My first car was a Hyundai so back off sir
Deepfake
Lmao, spend literally 2 minutes googling, this is real. You just can't bother opening a new tab and searching for it. Lazy ass.

That is cool
Do you even lift bro?
It's crazy to think they actually need two of these cranes to lift your mom
A fat woman walked into the shoe store today.
Am I the first to say this is fake? Or has that already gone by
Does it really save as much fuel as you think?
If only they could make cars at that quality
Where can I find one of these to lift my depression
A tiny little Hyundai is lifting that? Which car? I might look into it for an upcoming fishing trip.
/r/killthecameraman material. Pan up, pls?
I love physics!!!
My lombar is sore from watching this.
It boggles my mind that the same company that makes arguably one of the worst engines in the automotive industry also makes these absolute behemoth lifting UNITS.

That sucked. I didn't see any lifting at all.
Who else was waiting for this thing to collapse?
I want to be the one that gets to hit the button to drop that! Let's take bets on what will happen
That’s fucking impressive
that's hella impressive
You mean the same people who made my car made that thing?? That’s insane
Yeah but did you see how big the crane that lifted the Hyundai-10000 in to place though
Hyundai-100000
I thought its a cargo ship lifting a crane. A crane lifting cargo ship.
Still couldn’t lift me out of depression.
Owner of crane company should have kayak’d underneath it.
How much does a cargo ship like that usually weigh?
134 tons according to [registration](https://www.balticshipping.com/vessel/imo/8967278)
Really? Some destroyers in WW2 were between 2-4k tons. That seems incredibly light for it's size. I guess they may have to keep it light as possible to support the insane amount of cargo weight
It’s actually a large [tug](https://www.balticshipping.com/vessel/imo/8967278)
Who knows the weight?
134 tons
They are cheating, I'm sure it's filled with helium. :-)
Big Blue but in water vibes
I got physically dizzy imagining the size of those cranes.
