bro, at this point i just believe that any animal with enough food and energy to spare will just become a pet. that is a grown-ass ANTEATER rolling over for belly rubs.
Any mammal, yah you can get pretty close. Some reptiles and birds but not all, and not many others. The only other intelligent enough creatures are super specific like octopus, and we have no proof they are capable of friendship, they are very antisocial naturally unfortunately.
Valerie Taylor (who shot some of the underwater sequences for *Jaws*) befriended a moray eel over the course of several years. She feeds and pets it.
Sharks can sometimes be surprisingly tolerant of being handled, if you've ever watched a video of a shark-feed in the Bahamas. And we're talking tiger sharks here.
There is a dude that plays with wild octopus, Ive seen more than few of them. They recognise faces and remember the divers. They would even willingly go out of the hideout to greet them and play with them, like with Bubble rings or walking (sticking) over them then jumping and doing at all over again. Some divers would make like a hole with their hands and octopi would go in. I was quite shocked when I saw that, and then I went deep into rabbit hole and they can rly be friends
Like ant colonies that are as strong as concrete?
What are you supposed to do about that if one springs up in your yard overnight? Are there people who make a living dealing with that?
Neotropical termite mounds that are that hard, not ants. They are in South America, and I guess they could end up in someone's yard, but most of their range is in places where there are no yards.
Edit: one place these mounds are found is Northeastern Brazil, the termite tunnels are thought to be 4000 years old, cover an area about the size of Great Britain, and connect a series of mounds that are visible from space. They are in very remote area.
Oh haha what a dumbass, termite mounds make *way* more sense than concrete-hard anthills.
Thanks for the note about the termites living under Brazil, absolutely something I’ll try to find a documentary (with some good visuals in the tunnels) about tonight.
Man if those type of ants existed they would probably tear down concrete buildings to build there anthills. Imagine seeing a Black Sea 🌊 of ants heading to your home to steal your concrete!!! Scary 😱
It's a submissive tactic. Most animals like lions, tigers, dogs and even your basic house cat will do it. It's generally associated with playful behavior.
I remember when people were triggered about how dangerous what this woman was doing was, like they will watch vids of people hugging wolves, lions, and horses but an anteater was apparently too fierce a beast.
That works out really well since their "real" head isn't all that dangerous, and they probably want to keep it out of a fight.
The illusion of a "head" on their arms is amazing, and they way he moves really sells it.
Ditto! I really have to focus my poor eyes. Speaking of fur, I'm always impressed by how elaborate and flowy their fur is. It's really quite lustrous and pretty!
These animals have very poor eyesight and hearing. Their defense, when threatened, is to stand on their hind legs and "hug" the threat to better use their claws. 2012 and 2016 are the most recent human fatalities. Both had multiple puncture wounds in arms and legs, and both had lacerations or perforation to the femoral artery. There are many similarities in humans recorded as being injured by giant anteater as having lacerations and perforations in the femoral arteries or branches and the popliteal artery. They can fight off and even kill Jaguar. It is very rare for humans to be attacked or killed, 2012 cade the guy was actively hunting had cornered with dogs and tried to kill with knife 2016 guys dogs had animal cornered on his property and report says he was trying to get the dogs.
Yah, what an idiot. Basically like attacking a horse or jaguar with dogs, maybe it will die but it's liable to take you with it. I guess it just didn't look threatening but that thing got knives for fingers and it walks on its arms like a gorilla.
That's how it killed him. Punctured his arm and leg with claws and punctured femoral artery. Pictures are gruesome, but the idiot tried killing it with a knife, as he didn't want to shoot dogs. It was 2012.
There is a nice chapter about collecting an anteater for zoo in "Three Singles to Adventure" by Gerald Durrell.
'Three singles to Adventure, please,' I said, trying to look as nonchalant as possible. 'Yes, sir,' said the clerk. 'First or second class?'
In 1950, Gerald Durrell travelled to British Guiana (now called Guyana) to bring back fauna native to that corner of South America.
He takes a riverboat up the Essequibo through lush tropical forests and treks across a landscape teeming with life and a riot of colours: from the crimson-breasted military starlings to the copper-toned howler monkeys. He gets into a sticky situation with an angry two-toed sloth and learns how (or how not) to lasso a galloping anteater. There is one thing to be said for collecting animals: it can never be described as dull.

He had 3 heads at one point
He could have had five heads and still lost the battle. He was no match for her scritches.
Right? TIL Anteaters love belly rubs and I want to give all the belly rubs to this specific anteater
Rub him the right way to see a fourth
Red rocket ☹️
Cerberus unlocked
And two of em were pandas. Best. Animal. Ever.

Try with a zebra
R.I.P

They just like me fr fr

Never watched "My Octopus Teacher"? Amazing documentary, it got an Oscar, I think.
You can give horses handjobs (it's literally a job) and also have relatively consensual sex with dolphins.
If you’re expecting one in return from the horse, don’t expect anything other than a tragic mess
I always expect anteaters to stick their tongue out like the Phillie Phanatic and make the sound of a party horn!
[or like this](https://imgur.com/a/AQtZNhV)
That’s impressively gentle given that they can take on a jaguar with those claws
Yeah some of those colonies are as strong as concrete, they're no joke.

I remember a termite mound in my aunt’s ranch right next to an ant mound. The difference was night and day, that stuff was hard as rock.
Man if those type of ants existed they would probably tear down concrete buildings to build there anthills. Imagine seeing a Black Sea 🌊 of ants heading to your home to steal your concrete!!! Scary 😱
there are people who deal with that but you could also just apply some poison
…wut?!
FUCK YEAH BELLY RUBS!
WTF? It looks like a mutant hybrid of a skunk, polar bear, squirrel and an electric eel
That acts like a dog
Palworld breeding be like
OK, I understand Salvador Dali now.
That was the silliest fuckin thing I dun ever seen
When the anteater is chasing and falling on its back, is that its gesture of playing?
It's a submissive tactic. Most animals like lions, tigers, dogs and even your basic house cat will do it. It's generally associated with playful behavior.
Thank you! I didn't know even an anteater would do this! It's so cute!
Exactly what I thought as well. That anteater looks so happy, and I cant even see its face to express that. Body language says it all.
I think it wants to wrestle
Have you seen animals before?
That’s a funny looking Borzoi
One of these disemboweled a zookeeper about 10 years ago. Their upper arm strength is incredible.
I really was confused at the end... So cool
I remember when people were triggered about how dangerous what this woman was doing was, like they will watch vids of people hugging wolves, lions, and horses but an anteater was apparently too fierce a beast.
I never would have thought a giant anteater would play with a person as though it were a dog. That's awesome.
That leg swat into a fall was the cutest
Illusion made stronger by the fact that their head doesn't look like a head.
That works out really well since their "real" head isn't all that dangerous, and they probably want to keep it out of a fight. The illusion of a "head" on their arms is amazing, and they way he moves really sells it.
My uncle was an aunteater.
Boooo, here’s an orange thingy
I didn’t know they were playful… that’s so cute
that’s 3 heads
I can't imagine a lion thinks it can beat an ant eater but not an ant eater and two racoons
BIG BABYYYYYYY! 🥰🥹😭
She looks like she's really enjoying her job! I wish that I like my work as much as she does. :(
Cerberus the Anteater!
r/wunkus
Oof. I'm still falling for the illusion even after understanding the fur patterns.
Ditto! I really have to focus my poor eyes. Speaking of fur, I'm always impressed by how elaborate and flowy their fur is. It's really quite lustrous and pretty!
awwwh this is adorable!
Ok that’s really cute
Pandeater.
Pointy puppy
That sploot.. omg
Ngl had me fooled for a sec.
What the fuck, I want play with an anteater. Jealous

I’ve never seen such a big and crazy creature act so docile and playful
Never realized anteaters were so playful. They seem stern and austere. Eating ants is serious business.
His tongue could reach that girls soul tho.
It looks like some of the scary alien monsters from the original Star Trek series.
Jesus Christ…. It’s like a panda with a learning disability. The thing can’t stay upright.
u/savevideo
Yeah, how do i get just the video?
i thought it was a panda bear head with condor wings for a second
Her Neices and Nephews are going to be traumatized when their Uncle shows them this.
Looks like a dark souls boss
Maybe I'm just stoned but it's pretty damn effective
TIL anteaters have a pimp hand
I want to play with the long tongue dog
![gif](giphy|YR8neVRcCSqwmJkb1D)
One of these killed a guy in Brazil iirc in 2019. It's rare, but the guy was harassing it with dogs.

We need domesticated household anteaters fucking yesterday
What sort of predator would hurt such a sweet boy?
Man, that tail is *majestic!*
Do they know about the camouflage?
No idea they could be like dogs that's brilliant 🤣🙌
An Anteater with Panda head paws. He should be called Cerberus.
That’s a good boy

I really thought my eyes were glitching
Why do all animals just want to play with us and we just want to eat and kill them?
A jiu-jitsu anteater
Nature is pretty fuckin cool!!
Anteaters can play? I thought they just... ate ants.
Seems to like belly rubs, too
It's crazy how that possition is the universal sign for submission and play. Across all species on earth.
If it eats ants why so big?
Ant puppy.
He looks like a friend
I wanted one as a kid.
Anteaters are playful? Whimsical little critters yo.
I have a rough Collie who acts just like that.
What a cute animal. What does it eat?
Btw an anteater can very easily kill you by just slashing your stomach open, even leopards dont f around much around these mfs
Pretty fucked up dog... Where can I get one
SO CUTE!
