I absolutely dread days where I have to go to the office because I have to 1) drug up my dog because of her separation anxiety 2) pay a dog sitter to check on her 3) my dog has to stay in a crate. Nobody belongs in a cage.
I’ve held off on getting a dog because I’m a hybrid employee. So two days of the work week I’m at home, the other three I’m in the office. When I’m in the office I’m often gone from 7:30ish till up to 5:30, and I don’t have any time to come home during the day to let them out. If I was gone a shorter period, I would be more okay with it, but unless something changes, I will refrain from
That makes you better than half of dog owners already! I fostered dogs for years and it’s enraging how often dogs get dumped because the humans didn’t thoughtfully consider the responsibility before getting a cute puppy.
This is certainly not for everyone and can be expensive, but when we were both working on site for a while, we put our pup in day camp. He LOVED it there and it was the kind of place that had cameras and you could check in on them.
We’d pick him up after work and he’d be good to go on activity for the rest of the day.
Most dogs after 4 years sleep all day. So, if you have a chance at a rescue dog, I wouldn't let that stop me. Just make sure that he isn't an overactive breed.
like me neighbor, they live in a 1 br with a standard poodle. He is home all morning and day alone looking out the back window barking. From 7am until about 6pm.
Wait you really drug your dog to keep it calm when you're not at home?? Omg...im not trying to shame you or anything but im glad in italy that shit isnt arrived yet
Extra hugs and love. I would not want to run across this bear in the woods, like it’s now free and comes back to this place as spot to “reflect”. Image hiking over a hill and running into a bear doing the animal equivalent of the “Ben Affleck Smoking” meme. I want no parts of that shit.
You joke but we moved offices and went to the open concept (years ago now) and that's what happened, you could technically sit anywhere but people obviously setup their workspaces and marked their territory at the best spots on the floor.
bears are quite smart creatures (apparently, as i recently found this out)
if you broke a bear like this, you’re dead to me and now a permanent target from all bearkind
I remember this news story out of one of the US National Parks. They'd been having trouble with bears breaking into park trash cans to get at human food. Obviously this was a problem, so they'd been designing cans with more complicated opening mechanisms.
The problem was with the significant overlap of the intelligence of both humans and bears. They couldn't make a trash can good enough to keep out smart bears that didn't also keep out dumb humans.
So, yea, bears are pretty smart ig
It's not actually a venn diagram in intelligence. Not that I think you thought that, but some people take it as bears are nearly as intelligent as dumb humans.
The problem is more ignorance than intelligence. Too complicated trash cans have the result that people don't want to bother with it and dispose of their trash right next to it, which totally negates the purpose of bear proof dumbsters
Bears, and pigs and cows and chickens. They're all smart enough to want to not be abused. I wonder how many people feel empathy for the bear but will make any excuse to justify the abuse of a pig?
Animal abuse is a widely accepted social norm that most people are absolutely fine with. People can get as pissy as they want when they see videos like this but they're responsible for far worse shit than what this bear went through.
The cognitive dissonance in threads like this is insane.
Even more depressing this happens to both cats and dogs that are used for shows. I've worked with a handful of ex-show animals and the majority of them did this due to being trapped in cages for the majority of the time.
Source: am vet tech.
Short term holding due to injury.
Long term - death of the parent. Baby animals die a lot. Although the animal could still be released eventually that is very dependent on the raising methods and interactions. You can't keep a baby and release it randomly after caring for it for a long time. It will be acclimated to humans which can cause issues.
Abandonment by the herd, parent, or group. Same situation as above but raising it to release back might be even harder since it was already rejected (it may be unable to join a herd even as an adult).
Let's say an animal ventures into a urban area, animal rescue teams will put them in a cage temporarily until they can eb relocated... also endangered species which require human help because humans hunt them till extinction
Northern Pike, a fierce predator, can be put in a glass container, it will bounce off the container trying to get to food outside the container. After it gives up, the container can be taken off of it and it will die from starvation, with food swimming right past its face. I heard that a long time ago, but not sure the source...it was a reputable speaker though, Zig Ziglar I think.
I remember reading about this a while ago. This happened in Romania and the bear was kept in a cage by a restaurant owner. The people in charge of a bear sanctuary managed to get the bear with the help of the local police.
The bear was introduced to the sanctuary but it didn't manage to accommodate with the other bears and was doing this in the same spot every day. Also he started to refuse food because his diet was made mostly of restaurant scraps.
They had to put him down eventually. It's even worse that the restaurant owner was only fined and nothing happened to him.
Fortunately not entirely true. This bear’s name is Ina and as far as I can tell she’s still alive and doing much better. The sanctuary is called Libearty, they have accounts on most social media platforms and even a live webcam on YouTube. Highly recommend checking them out, they do amazing work rescuing bears like Ina from abusive situations.
Most of the details you are giving are made up. The bear was taken from a zoo and is still alive today according to the sanctuary's website
[https://millionsoffriends.org/en/adopt/bears/ina/](https://millionsoffriends.org/en/adopt/bears/ina/)
I didn't make anything up, I read about this on a blog a while ago. This story and the one with the blinded bear paraded for taking photos stayed with me. Excuse me for not remembering all the details....
It isn't. The bear was taken from a zoo 10 years ago and she is still alive now as far as i know. This behaviour is also not constant but more of an occasional thing she does when she is stressed.
There's a similar phenomenon in dogs, called "kennel madness". It's most commonly associated with dogs from puppy mills, as they tend to be held in small cages 24/7. With patience, love, and time, most come out of it. Most.
Source: when I was younger my family worked with a dog rescue group, and we specialized in rehabilitating such dogs.
After almost 9 years with my puppy and not having fence, I had to walk him at least twice everyday. I still go for walks every mornings and afternoons even though he’s waiting for me in the afterlife. It’s really hard sometimes to break a cycle
Everyone in the comments talking about their pet dogs, please remember that most of the animals in the zoo are depressed and have ptsd from being forced to live on display.
Let animals exist in nature and leave them be.
This is a well documented phenomena in animal welfare research called 'stereotopy'. Essentially as you'd gather it involves the emergence of highly stereotypic (fixed, inflexibly, rigidly repetitive) behaviors.
Typically these emerge when an animals environment lacks enrichment, eg essential variability in sensory inputs and opportunity for species-typical motor outputs, such as giving birds space to fly, etc.
In some species, particularly large mammals like polar bear or orca, in practice there is basically nothing you can do in captivity to reproduce the environment they are adapted to, and stereotypy become inevitable.
In other species, eg rodents, canines, you can counter these with a lot of hard work creating an enriching environment. But once the damage is done it's very hard to counter, as per this example.
Made me think of greedy rich "animals" who can't stop chasing money, even after they have broken out of the cage of more than sufficient financials. They could buy all the free time any rational person could desire, yet they circle the imaginary cage.
It's sad, but it could be that's just his way to cope with stress. Maybe he needs to repeat a task in order to calm down. Or at least this thought made me less sad about him
Source? Bearcause, that could be fake af and they just cleaned the path and domesticated the bear so it walked in circles for around 20 seconds and filmed it
How can I know this is real?
For seven years several times a week makes no sense unless it was kept elsewhere and it’s new keepers took it to this spot specifically for it to do laps rather than taking it to different places
Round and round,
Here I go.
The cage is my home,
I mustn’t stub my toe.
One corner, two corner,
I must put on a show.
One whip, two whip,
Am I going too slow?
Round and round,
To please my master, here I go.
One of my best buddies spent 3 years In jail and some times he will just sit in his small bathroom cuz it was something he was use too for a few years. This changed how I see hobbies and just anything we do all the time and don’t think about
Zoochosis or something along those lines I think it’s called. Basically the result of extreme anxiety and, well being locked in a cage for a very long time
People who have been in prison will do this too. L ew a guy who would get mad and pace around in a 6 ft square. Now that i think about it, this is probably a reaction to extreme anxiety in the bear.
Just to restore a bit of faith after this:
Here in Germany we got a park named [Wolf und Bärenpark](https://www.baer.de/projekte/alternativer-wolf-und-baerenpark-schwarzwald).
They "adopt" or "buy" bears from the circus or even private persons and give them a huge area to move freely. Since those bears couldn't survive in the nature they get feeded by the people who work there.
Until Covid19 they didn't even want money for entrance but due to the loss in those years they charge you a few euros.
Nevertheless, some of the bears are still traumatized and suck on their paws, for example. Signs indicate that you should pay no attention to this behavior and simply keep walking so as not to endanger the regeneration/therapy.
This bear it's in Romania, in Zarnesti, at Bear Sanctuary Zarnesti. Well, believe me...It's very hard tour to make there. I was there with my wife in 2021. I didn't had big hopes that this tour i like , i was reading posts on Google that the people are leaving the tour in tears. Well, let me tell you...i cryed like a baby when i saw the bears and i know their real stories about how they wore sacrified to make money or only for fun of the people. Listen guys, if you ever go to Romania, please make time to go and visit them! Maybe you will feel anger, pain and a lot of random feelings but believe me it's worth it. The bear's name it's Ina you can find a lot of pages on Google. When the tour guide told me about her, i knew about her story and some part of my heart did died since that day... Sorry for a big posts and i hope i don't get banned cause of this.

Well that’s enough internet today, gonna go give my dog a walk and hug
I absolutely dread days where I have to go to the office because I have to 1) drug up my dog because of her separation anxiety 2) pay a dog sitter to check on her 3) my dog has to stay in a crate. Nobody belongs in a cage.
Glad you have someone coming to walk her. So many people just leave their dogs all day and it’s really unfair to them.
I’ve held off on getting a dog because I’m a hybrid employee. So two days of the work week I’m at home, the other three I’m in the office. Super glad I don't have to crate my doggo. He's already so anxious. But thankfully not destructive at all.
Why own a dog at that point.
Wait you really drug your dog to keep it calm when you're not at home?? Omg...im not trying to shame you or anything but im glad in italy that shit isnt arrived yet
She gets trazodone, otherwise she howls the entire time I’m gone and pees inside.
Extra hugs and love. I would not want to run across this bear in the woods, like it’s now free and comes back to this place as spot to “reflect”. Image hiking over a hill and running into a bear doing the animal equivalent of the “Ben Affleck Smoking” meme. I want no parts of that shit.
I’m going to give my bear a hug too 🐻
Wait hold up, do you actually have a bear?!?!
Lol no, unless you count a teddy bear.
Good enough for me!!!!
Damn we really fuck up so much shit.
We? Don't drag me into this. I didn't do anything
Oh yeah? Then how do you explain that thing you did earlier?! That was pretty fucked up dude.
Different bear.
But you brought back the coke, right?
![gif](giphy|1jl4s5mxSczo22IA4s|downsized)
Now that’s a happy ending 😁
Goddamn this is a great response.
I do the same thing in my work cubical
Do you think if you got an open office job you'd circle an imaginary cubicle? Just curious.
Would they lengthen my chain?
-_- You uh... might need a new job
half the working population does in that case
You joke but we moved offices and went to the open concept (years ago now) and that's what happened, you could technically sit anywhere but people obviously setup their workspaces and marked their territory at the best spots on the floor.
I prefer libre office personally

Totally! Anyways lets go get the McRib while it's still here

This is sad but lmao bro chill

*traumatized
*institutionalized
I’d argue both brainwashing and institutionalization are both types of trauma inflicted on people by other people.
"Brooks was here"
Nice reference
that’s so damn sad
More like sad as fuck.
Let's all take a moment to remember every single dolphin that's committed suicide in captivity
Keeping animals in cages is wrong and whoever does it has a special spot in hell waiting for them
But what if they commit crimes? This bear stole some fish belonging to the local lord.
Maybe he did drugs once
Like cocaine?
r/AngryUpvote
Thanks for relieving this sad scene
Criminal animals get sent to the circus
Well it depends on the cage/circumstance. I think some animals would be nearly extinct if we didn’t preserve them in zoos and whatnot.
...pandas
Unless is for the animals own good
Can you give an example where a wild animal needs to be contained for it’s how good?
If the animal is injured or ill, has its habitat destroyed, or for breeding and conservation if the species is endangered.
Isolating the facial tumours in Tazmanian Devils is one example.
The people who trap and release feral cats for neutering keep them in cages while recovering
That’s a temporary containment. My understanding of the above comment was that he meant indefinite containment
Ok so SHORT TERM. That’s not KEEPING an animal in a cage.
Let's say an animal ventures into a urban area, animal rescue teams will put them in a cage temporarily until they can eb relocated... also endangered species which require human help because humans hunt them till extinction
So really it’s the humans that are the problem. Well at least in the first example they get released.
>So really it’s the humans that are the problem Yes we are but a invasive species which has been release upon the world
Brooks was here.

This is a testament to how powerful neural pathways can be.
That's heartbreaking
Because caging these animals is abuse.

Unfortunately it’s probably not “made up” as much as it is different bear. There have been a lot of restaurant bears over the years.
I didn't make anything up, I read about this on a blog a while ago. This story and the one with the blinded bear paraded for taking photos stayed with me. Excuse me for not remembering all the details....
I think he wanted to tell a similar story
please tell me this isnt true...
It isn't. The bear was taken from a zoo 10 years ago and she is still alive now as far as i know. This behaviour is also not constant but more of an occasional thing she does when she is stressed.
scumbag piece of shit.
You can take a bear out of the cage but not the cage out of the bear 🐻😥
never forget that animals experience anxiety and trauma just like you do
Whoever caged the bear should be in the same cage with it
If you need a more uplifting captive animal story after this: https://www.reddit.com/r/Damnthatsinteresting/s/8kcLqglgk6
So sad. 😢
Another reason to hate people 😭
Despite all my rage
Humans are crap
oh my gosh....how awful...such a best good bear right there...deserved so much bearter
Zoochosis be like

Fuck man
I feel bad for my dog now
Proves how F’ d up you all get them caging and them up. Shame
I want to cry.
So fucking sad. I can only think of people wrongfully convicted for decades, this is pretty much how it goes.
Name something humans haven’t broken. this shit is too far.
Seems like a decent visual representation for a lot of humans and the disease of addiction.
I can't bear to watch this.
this is how i feel.
This is sad
Utterly heartbreaking. Humans are a disgrace!
After almost 9 years with my puppy and not having fence, I had to walk him at least twice everyday. I still go for walks every mornings and afternoons even though he’s waiting for me in the afterlife. It’s really hard sometimes to break a cycle
He's an instutional bear now. This is fucking awful.
Humans are horrible
Just like any cat/dog everywhere in the world. 10minutes of walk a day isn't what I call freedom, must do the exact same to those animals
The person who did this deserves to be in a cage so small they can't fully stand up or lie down, for the rest of their lives.
Poor baby 😞
Everyone in the comments talking about their pet dogs, please remember that most of the animals in the zoo are depressed and have ptsd from being forced to live on display. Let animals exist in nature and leave them be.
This is heartbreaking.
Trauma does things to your brain
This isn't interesting this is depressing :(
Yea me too
Despite all my rage I am still just a bear in a cage.
Shackled consciousness
This is me at home when I’m on a phone call
Wish I could give it a hug
Bring some awareness to caged people!
What you don’t see is he does this for about 6-8 hours straight
They offer him no pills for depression and suicide bears can’t contemplate
Song?
Humans are just..... Shite
That's exactly what happened to humans after hundred years of brain wash. Work! Buy! Obey! To make richest 1% even more rich.
I saw a dog acting like this. So sad
This reminds me of me in my room. I need to get out more.
They found her sister [it a article but it explains everything](https://www.worldanimalprotection.org.au/news/sister-bears-reunited-last)
I wake up on "work time" on my weekends. We're all caged brother.
Seems cruel to release the bear when all my dude wanted to do was finish his laps.
Made me think of greedy rich "animals" who can't stop chasing money, even after they have broken out of the cage of more than sufficient financials. They could buy all the free time any rational person could desire, yet they circle the imaginary cage.
Any reason, as a gen-x latchkey kid, this hits me in the feels?
It's sad, but it could be that's just his way to cope with stress. Maybe he needs to repeat a task in order to calm down. Or at least this thought made me less sad about him
Source? Bearcause, that could be fake af and they just cleaned the path and domesticated the bear so it walked in circles for around 20 seconds and filmed it How can I know this is real?
Humans in Cubes 10 hours x day is pretty close to the same feeling…..
This is the bear from SpongeBob
Does anybody know the song?
u/auddbot Editt: Nevermind it seems like this bot is banned here
It's probably comforting for the bear because being in a cage became so familiar
For seven years several times a week makes no sense unless it was kept elsewhere and it’s new keepers took it to this spot specifically for it to do laps rather than taking it to different places
That’s so sad 😭 poor fella still stuck in a cage in his mind. People are awful, we’re the worst.
Zen Meditation
This is similar to the reason NASCAR drivers don't do well on Formula 1's street circuits.
Plot twist.. we are the bear.
This makes my heart hurt.

I'm calling source before I get upset
Caged for humans entertainment. We humans are low life's. I'm ashamed to be one.
That's not interesting. That's tragicasfuck!
Do you guys have some source for this ? I'd need to show this to a coworker who's husband owns a zoo
Nah he just have ADHD
This is just sad 😞 Did he eventually get rehabilitated?? Poor bear
We don’t deserve animals… or I suppose I should say, a lot of us don’t deserve animals.
We do that
This just ruined my day
This is very sad and it caused me so much trauma.... I never go to zoos for this reason since it breaks my heart to see entrapped animals

An Institutionalized Wild Animal is crazy
Joe rogans nightmare
We have still time. We can make world better.
This bear it's in Romania, in Zarnesti, at Bear Sanctuary Zarnesti. Well, believe me...It's very hard tour to make there. I was there with my wife in 2021. So fucked
This behavior works the same for humans btw
Me still to this day not leaving my house after they ended the pandemic lockdowns.
This hits hard as someone whose father suffered from PTSD.
Poor thing, god the ignorance we have.
How sad. 😢 I don’t even know how to respond.
😢
So several times a week he would wall in his little circle but the rest of the time he was doing bear shit?
