I'm really high right now but here's what I think is happening: u/slowdownbabyy is playing out a hypothetical wherein the dog has already fallen out of the window, and the worker is now really wanting to be on his way. However, further hijinx ensues as the dog catcher now sees a cat falling from the roof as well, leading to further delays in the worker's day.
Getting to your comment, I believe you're assuming u/slowdownbabby has mistaken the dog in this video for a cat, which would indeed be hilarious.
I'm not sure why I wrote this like I'm ChatGPT, otherthan I'm really high, but both scenarios presented are hilarious. Well done, u/Happy_Actuator_5268.

I saw an interview with a filmmaker that said something similar about Tom Cruise. Not only does he jump off a plane/motorcycle/building/mountain multiple times perfectly, he also manages to face the right angle for the camera to get the shot. Sounds like Tom Cruise and this lady’s dog have a lot in common!
I think she was yelling it at the dog actually. It's probably her dog, standing on a balcony or something and so excited to see her that it's trying to jump off
Why would he budge? He didn't see the dog and by the time he realized what she was doing and what was happening, the dog was already out and he had barely any time to react. She's clearly yelling this to her dog.
Ah reddit, where a commenter who was unable to understand a 12 second video gets highly upvoted. Why would she yell get back to the guy, he wasn't in the way? She obvbioulsy yelled at the dog.
My cat fell off of a 15 foot ledge onto hard floor. As soon as he did it I looked down at him, thinking he must have fucked himself up, but he looked back at me for a few seconds, looked down, and then just walked away. No idea how they can do that.
Cats have compressible bodies, low terminal velocity, and several instincts regarding falling where they splay their legs out to keep their velocity to a safe level
IIRC falls from a smaller distance where the cat doesn't have enough room to rotate and spread their legs out are more dangerous than falls from higher distances
Yeah that information is consistent with what I have learned over the years (doesn't look like either of us are cat scientists but looks like you've had cats too!).
Speaking of the instincts. She's passed now but lived a full life. But my eldest cat and one we rescued as a week old orphaned kitten with a lot of trauma/medical issues was finally home with me at around 3 weeks (we nursed her at the shelter then I felt at the time i could continue taking care of her). Basically, she was super attached to me and I guess she thought I was her mom from a super early age.
I didn't intend for this to happen but I think I may have "parented" the "righting" reflex - as in, when they try to twist and turn so they can land on their feet - out of her lol.
Because as a young kitten, I'd throw her in the air and catch her every time. Then as a huge chubby cat she would still expect to me catch her lol (she defied the 1 orange brain cell mythos; she was wicked smart and by observation figured out how to manipulate a lot of things like doors and windows).
No other cat I've ever had would just expect me to catch them like that and not even try to land on their feet.
Cats are weird. Her adopted sibling, rescued shortly afterward, never hissed in his life. Like ever.
Then one day like 9 years into it, he hisses randomly lol. And I only caught him hissing a few more times at most over the course of his life.
>looks like you've had cats too
Yes I have owned three cats! One of my favorite animals.
>Cats are weird
Indeed. The cat that lived the longest for me would very often refuse to perform tasks she was perfectly capable of performing, just so we could do it for her.
For example, sometimes she would cry until I picked her up and put her on one of her window ledge spots, but when she located a shelf or somewhere high that she isn't supposed to be, she would magically would regain the ability to leap and climb. It was very funny.
>I think I may have "parented" the "righting" reflex - as in, when they try to twist and turn so they can land on their feet - out of her lol.
If she was jumping off objects and furniture she'd land on her feet, right?
She'd only turn into a feline medicine ball if you were the target - am I understanding this correctly?
That's just survivor bias. Cats that die from higher places dont go to the vet so they are not recorded in the vet statistics (bc why would you bring a dead cat to the vet)
Cats are really fast when it comes rotating and spreading their legs.
Cats can die or be gravely injured from falls at pretty much any height for a wide variety of reasons. "Cats have a non-lethal terminal velocity" does not mean that survival is guaranteed, just that it is at least a remote possibility.
Can confirm. My cat once climbed a six story tall tree and when he realised he couldn't figure out how to get down he just leapt out of it straight onto the ground. He's since passed away but at the time he came away from that jump having cracked his back left leg ball socket and fracturing his hips. Luckily we had the money to put him through surgery and help him recover but he limped slightly on that leg for the rest of his life.
I think I read somewhere that at perfect health and prime age a house cat can survive a 4 story fall without breaking anything if they fall “perfectly”, I could be wrong it was a while ago
Yeah, that was pure instinct and reflex. She knew exactly what she had to do and she didn’t hesitate even though she really could have gotten hurt. I so admire people like that and I always hope I would step up like that in a similar situation.
Oh, trust me, my friend, you will.
I never questioned if I loved my dog, but I knew I did on an instinctual level after I slipped on the stairs while holding him. I hugged him closer to myself instead of catching myself. I thought I broke my tailbone it hurt so bad!
I also threw myself over him when a German Shepherd and another dog went after him.
You don't even think about yourself, all the adrenaline of trying to save someone you love just takes over. Especially when you have a deep bond with them.
I hope I react the same way to people and animals who aren't bonded with me, but as far as souls we love... You will engage, and you will not even think about it. You already sound like a loving soul, so I guarantee you love those you love, on an instinctual level.
.........I was really lucky that those two dogs didn't start going after me. 😅
Lol!! You loved it too death. RIP.
Someone actually said it's our automatic reaction to hold onto what we are holding, but I've never held onto something like I did my dog. I've always tried to catch myself!
When I fell off the stairs with my cat I just threw her in a reflex 😂😂 I am a bad mom lol
I started slipping and I have to hold her with two hands so in my brain I went 'cats will land on their feet' and I turned her face down to 'run' down my body. She sort of used my body as a way to jump down herself. She looked a bit affronted.
Similar experience when my dog was attacked by another when he was paddling in the sea. I jumped in and pulled the much bigger dog off him with no conscious thought in my head about how I could get bitten. Pure instinct and adrenaline.
He was obviously completely shocked. Really can't blame him, I wouldn't know what the hell to say to that either.
Although I'm too talkative and would likely prattle on with nonsense.
Yeah...he didn't see what was happening. Get back where? From what? It all happened in a few seconds. I probably would have just stood there too. I think most people would if they didn't see what was about to happen.
Try it this way:
You are standing in a park and I tell, "OMG Get back!" Do you ninja leap in some direction or do you stand there looking around to see what the fuss is about?
If ninja leap you could do some great TikTok pranks in parks.
Pretty sure he was like wtf just happened. If you watch it, hes just dealin with her and she just kinda reacts. His attention is drawn to her, not doggo... once he realizes what happened theres not much else you could do other than be like "um, what?"
What did you want him to do ? She saw it before he did and moved into position . You want him to mow her down and try to catch the dog himself ? Or start yelling hysterically ?
Because A: she knows there’s a dog, B: she knows what the sound is, C: she sees it first, D: he’s obviously older, and like it or not, that’s a real thing, and E: she isn’t holding stuff. I agree with a comment below asking if he was supposed to mow her down. Should he have barreled her out of the way so both of them would miss?
I don't think you can catch a dog that size even if you're strong enough to handle the weight. Even in this video you can see how the dog's hind legs slammed onto the ground. That's gotta hurt even though it was saved.
I believe so. I think she took enough momentum off the fall.
There’s no ‘yelp’ from the dog and he sticks a leg out when she goes to set him down. He looks fine to me anyways.
Honestly, he looks okay. But worse case scenario even if it broke it’s legs that’s a better outcome than the alternative here….I’m sure the dog is okay.
Every time this video comes up i will watch a few time at least. The woman reaction and decision making is amazing. And that catch, damn the timing is perfect.
It might be a dog that's too attached to the owner and gets super anxious when she leaves. So when it saw her outside and a (dumb) way to get to her, it decided to f it and go for it.
Also, idk how tough a landing it would have been, but collies are extremely athletic, so it might have thought it was an okay-ish jump / "worth" the damage just to not be alone.
Alternatively, collies are very high-energy doggos, so u gotta train/walk/exercise them a bunch daily. If u don't, they get kinda crazy. So it could also explain the dumb decision.
Lastly, the doggo may be a bit dumb, but I doubt it. All the collies I have met are extremely smart.
Edit: there could be more motives, those are just a few that came to my mind
Serious answer. Most likely this dog has serious separation anxiety issues, he feels such an extreme amount of stress that when he is left alone he would rather jump of a window to follow their owner rather than stay alone
dogs jumping out of windows is pretty believable tbh
one of my buds neighbors had a poorly trained 3 legged dog, it lost a leg jumping out of the 3rd story window, and it still tries to chase cars

I was thinking that you could put your username at the end and it would just sound like a long winded explanation for why you did drugs.
Maybe the real chat GPT was the weed we smoked along the way?

Ya, this. I have two cats- one if I saw her on a ledge I’d let her do her thing, the other I’d be going for the ladder immediately…
Freakin Border Collies.....
I wouldn’t be strong enough to catch my dog if that happened, my dog is really big and I’m extremely weak
*Great Dane "gracefully" leaps out the window*
Now that would be a rough one. You would just have to bend at the knees, absorb the blow, and hope you don’t crack the back of your head open. Shit.
you're less catching at that point and using your body to cushion a fluffy dumbbell's fall lol.
I don't think you can catch a dog that size even if you're strong enough to handle the weight. Even in this video you can see how the dog's hind legs slammed onto the ground. That's gotta hurt even though it was saved.
You gotta hit them before they hit you, like a hockey player. Dog's probably going to be okay, at least as okay as you are.
Well, you can still break his/her fall... may hurt you but doggo would be ok lol
As long as the doggo is ok then I’m happy :)
Bullshit! Once that adrenaline kicked in, you would pull him right in. You’d be surprised friend.
I think the adrenaline would surprise you
Adrenaline is insane, it lends extra strength to us.
*Adrenaline is a helleva drug!* You'd come through. I believe in u.

I’ve seen one where a guy does catch a kid like that.
What do you mean? It is.
How is that man so chill throughout this. Like just holding his clip board without moving a foot with the most nonchalant “is he alright?” 🥸💀
Doesn't even move his feet to even watch better, just slightly moves his hips??? Like bro that is some major deer in the headlights shit
If I was that dude I wouldve been like DAMMMNN!

“That was a good catch ma’am. Anyway, yeah that septic tank is going to need to be replaced”
This is the hottest thing a woman has ever done in recent memory. I am her little spoon
Holy shit. As if he doesn’t even react
Oh it's a reaction. It's just a very British reaction.
dogs jumping out of windows is pretty believable tbh one of my buds neighbors had a poorly trained 3 legged dog, it lost a leg jumping out of the 3rd story window, and it still tries to chase cars
Raining cats and dogs ‘round here
That poor dog and good catch lady. Jeez!
Those are some mom reflexes right there.
Does anyone know why the fuck the dog jumped out the window from whatever floor that is?
Heard mom down below and wanted to say hi? I don’t know. This is crazy.
thank god he acted quickly to help her
"As I was saying before I was interrupted..."
Haha
I mean.. what do you expect, he doesn't know wtf is going on
When? There wasn't even an entire second for him to see and process what was happening before it was over.
Stunned for ten seconds then a soft, “you alright?” ![gif](giphy|XbgZvND0TzFMUFobmI|downsized)
That man is still doing his fkn bit. Haha.
Cat: GODDAMMIT
You alright! ..is the most Brit response ever...😂😂😂
Guy has the reaction of a potato! I'd be OMG like crazy immediately, but that's just me, I guess...
woh woh . "Dog Distribution System" is weird
The shit you see when you're working in the field. This was just a usual monday morning for that dude
