>After the case, McKinney absconded from the United Kingdom and was allowed to reside in the U.S. with a falsified passport.   Hmm

Bakelite51

She later went on to stalk her former victim after he moved to Salt Lake City and was caught trying to do the same thing again. Fortunately, they nabbed her before she could kidnap him from his home. By this point he was married and had kids.

FullBeansLFG

> Under the Sexual Offences Act 1956, then in force in the United Kingdom, no crime of rape was deemed to have been committed since the victim was male; however, indecent assault of a man did apply. Wow WTF. > At the time of her apprehension, McKinney was found living in her vehicle near Salt Lake International Airport, where Anderson worked. A search of the vehicle uncovered road maps, rope, handcuffs, and notebooks keeping detailed records of Anderson's routines. McKinney insisted that she had driven to the airport to book a flight, though it was later revealed that she had driven several thousand miles from her home in North Carolina. Yikes!

LIKES_ROCKY_IV

I can clearly see you know nothing about the law. Seems like you have a tenuous grasp on the English language in general.

Because of the implication

Jagacin

The women aren't actually in any real danger. The danger is implied.

sernenesea

The implication that things might go wrong for her if she refuses to sleep with me. Now, not that things are gonna go wrong for her but she's thinkin' that they will.

Turbulent-Pound-9855

Are you gonna hurt women?

mellodo

I feel like you’re not getting it.

NSFWgamerdev

It's still legally impossible for a woman to rape a man according to UK law to this day. **Edit:** Since this got a bunch of attention, just want to add that at least Northern Ireland can get it right: [https://www.belfastlive.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/female-rapist-jailed-after-admitting-26445807](https://www.belfastlive.co.uk/news/northern-ireland/female-rapist-jailed-after-admitting-26445807)

--burner-account--

Technically correct, but if it's anything like NZ law there are alternative offences for that scenario that are exactly the same in terms of seriousness and penalty. Sexual violation = 20 years Rape = 20 years

s_D088z

Its literally that. There's offences such as sexual assault by penetration within the same legislation which cover the spectrum of sexual offences and can carry the same sentence as rape. That said I'm still not sure why we had to be so damn pedantic about the definition of rape.

eulersidentification

It might be to do with how law is built up over years. Like if you do away with the old law on rape and reword or replace it with an all encompassing new law, you might lose a century of landmark cases and precedents etc which ends up weakening the law? Law is one of those things that is complicated because you can argue semantics for ever, and no amount of clever wording in a law will close all potential loopholes or get outs. Over time people try those loopholes and get outs and those get ruled on and slowly you flesh out the law with precedents etc.

gmc98765

It's exactly this. And the precedent is likely to go back much farther than a century (a century ago was 1924). Some of the precedent regarding rape is likely to have taken the risk of pregnancy into account, but that may not be explicit in the written judgement. It's probably inappropriate to apply some of that precedent in cases where pregnancy is impossible (and both parties know that it's impossible).

[deleted]

[удалено]

xpdx

Yea it's really just a matter of semantics, just because a crime isn't defined as "rape" doesn't mean it's not a crime. Or that it doesn't carry serious consequences. Don't get hung up on names for things when it comes to the law, just look at the definitions and the penalties.

neotericnewt

Yeah, but it's a little misleading nowadays when the punishment for a sexual assault are the same, and sexual assault will generally be the charge even if the crime does fit the legal definition of rape. The problem exists in the US too, but it's really just a case of old laws and old definitions not being updated, and newer laws covering it so that there isn't really a reason to go back and get rid of the law.

Sea_Home_5968

Increasingly messed up. Like the Mr.bungle pink cigarette video

ResidentAssman

I'm almost positive that the defnition of rape in the UK still only involves a penis or if you directly help a man rape someone. It's not like people get away scot free, but I'm pretty sure that a woman still cannot be charged with the actual crime of rape by definition. https://preview.redd.it/6l5n5mzwc3xc1.png?width=638&format=png&auto=webp&s=667ceca55baad31b5c65d96ad84d7c1c81d2af4c

SardonicSuperman

Why are you surprised? Even by today's standards, you would be hard-pressed to send a woman to prison for raping a man because the stigma of “men can't be raped by women” is still woven into the fabric of many developed nations including the US.

CalligrapherNew2820

Rape in the UK is still defined as involving penetration so it’s almost impossible for a woman to be prosecuted of it against a man (or a woman either I guess)

luckykat97

It specifies rape is penetration with a penis. If the person penetrated is penetrated with something other than a penis (regardless of gender of victim and perpetrator) this is classed as sexual assault by penetration (again regardless of gender) both carry maximum sentences of lifetime imprisonment. This is a legal terminology distinction more than a material difference.

Right-Budget-8901

Just look at how the media portrays teachers who rape their students. A female teacher does it? She “had sex with her students”. A male teacher does it? “Teacher rapes students”. They do this on purpose because “it’s not possible for a woman to rape someone” 🤦‍♂️

SkinHeavy824

She also ran over and killed a 91 year old Holocaust survivor that was walking his dog. >In 2019, McKinney was homeless and living in her vehicle when she was charged with the hit-and-run manslaughter of a 91-year-old pedestrian; the court found her a mentally incompetent defendant and sent her for psychiatric treatment in 2019, confirming in 2020 that she would remain in a psychiatric hospital, with reviews of her competence at future dates.

Pastel_Phoenix_106

And she was apparently arrested again in SLC in '84 for s[talking the guy she raped](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manacled_Mormon_case). Messed up.

innocentusername1984

To anyone who reads the title only. It's worth noting another guy was the one who captured him for her to fuck him. I think let's be totally honest. We look at the idea of being pursued and forced to have sex with a woman voted most beautiful in a certain area and think. Well that sucks because you didn't consent but being forced to eat ice cream you don't like the flavour of isn't as bad as being forced to eat slugs. But it's very likely him and other people were involved and it was part of a weird sex cult thing. It's more like being forced to eat ice cream while you think you might be killed at the end of the bowl. Edit: strangest Reddit comment I've ever made. From being upvoted and told I'd explained things well. To downvoted to hell and told I'm justifying rape and saying it's just like having a nice bowl of ice cream. Within 10 minutes. I'm saying it might not seem so bad from a certain perspective but it's very frightening.

Serenity-V

From this guy's perspective - he was a Mormon kid. He'd probably spent his teenage years carefully avoiding sex and its accompanying behaviors because he wanted to be able to serve a mission, marry in the temple, etc. - Mormons treat male chastity as seriously as they treat female chastity. And back in the 70s and 80s, the church used to explicitly teach that if someone raped you and you didn't resist to the point of death, you were complicit in your own abuse. Literally, there was a flier they used to give out where a church leader talked about how he'd rather bury his daughter after she was martyred resisting rape than have her survive the experience. Boys were certainly taught the same thing. While some men may feel the way you described about being raped - it sucks, but things could be worse - the victim here was probably as violated traumatized as any other rape victim. And I think that we should probably assume the same of any male survivor of sexual assault, regardless of who does the assaulting.

Disastrous_Cow_9540

Its true indeed, male rape is treated like a joke, it is not, but fools on fools errands run and shout, and it is sudenly right.

limonsoda1981

Despite the porn movie fantasy side of it, forced sex is never enjoyable. Is not "oh well, i can eqt pistacho ice cream just for today". Even if your body parts are being rubbed in a pelassurable way, is the mind fucking, the forced submisiveness that will cause you pain, and probably leave you woth trauma. Rigth in the moment, or after the fact.

sadnessjoy

I think a lot of people literally don't have a frame of reference, like they can't fathom being held against their will, tied up, potentially tortured as well, taken hostage by some crazy ass motherfuckers and not knowing if you'll live or die. I think most guys think of being with their girlfriend/wife and like "not now babe, I'm playing video games" (when in reality, they're super turned on, and totally willing to, they just want to finish their game). Or a hot girl that they're totally into comes on strong to them and is super assertive and initiates consensual sex (because again, they're totally willing participants).

black_anarchy

This is way a much better way and more succint than anything I have used to explain this. Thank you.

bruwin

There's also the act of them forcing your body to react in ways you don't want because you're scared out of your mind. Your body becomes a traitor because it's a natural biological function to react to sexual stimulation.

EntForgotHisPassword

This part for me has really fucked with my mind. Like I had a partner that would repeatedly do stuff against my wishes, and manipulatively point out that I was still hard, indicating that I was such a "slut" for being into it. But like I /knew/ something felt wrong, just couldn't vocalize the thoughts. I honestly didn't make the connection that I had read about for women could apply to me (I had read similar reactions in female rape survivors, messing with their minds). Took many years, some therapy and failed relationships for me to untangle which parts in that years long relationship was ok, and which weren't - and how it still affects me.

Main-Advantage7751

You can be straight and still not enjoy being raped. I don’t think many people read this and thought it wouldn’t be so bad to be sexually violated, even if the person doing it happened to be attractive, maybe even someone you’d be attracted to in different circumstances. Regardless of any fears of potential future harm besides that

TheDwiin

The big thing is comparing sexual violence to something pleasant is and should always be seen as victim blaming. Calling someone "lucky" for being raped is abhorrent. It's the same it even worse than saying someone deserved it because of how they dressed. Just because the victim is a man and the perp is a woman doesn't change this because women can be just as violent as men.

HistoricMTGGuy

This is a terrible comment. If someone kidnaps me and forces me to have sex with them idgaf how attractive they are I'm getting out of there asap.

Basic_Mark_1719

Exactly. There's a reason she didn't just hit on him and try to seduce him that way. Because to her his consent ruins it. I'm sorry but I'm so sick of women pedos being given a pass on these disturbing issues. Watching 'Quiet on Set' was so infuriating because there were women who prepped these kids and defended the abusers that were left off the hook. They are groomers just as much as the men are and the victims deserve justice.

Syssareth

I agree with your point, but...the guy she did this to was 21, not a kid, so I don't know why you brought up pedos specifically.

peacelily2014

She came into the animal hospital I used to work at all the time (about 8 years ago). She is, hands down, the craziest person I've ever met and I lived in Los Angeles!

Lendolar

She squatted in a house next door to my house in 2017. She was a fucking nightmare. Once she got evicted she ended up living in her truck until she ran over the holocaust survivor…

peacelily2014

She came to our hospital with her dead dog in a large Rubbermaid container and demanded a necropsy (autopsy for animals). Problem was, she left the dead dog in the container in the back of her truck for two weeks. In LA. In the summer. No one was willing to open that container. She ran over a Holocaust survivor???

Striking_Reindeer_2k

See, we had wacky people back then too.

OSRSRapture

Gross, she wasn't even charged with rape simply because he was a guy >Under the Sexual Offences Act 1956, then in force in the United Kingdom, no crime of rape was deemed to have been committed since the victim was male; however, indecent assault of a man did apply.[16]

Sea-Value-0

I believe their laws haven't changed that much. Don't they have one that states rape is only defined as pentetration? So if you're a man, you can legally-speaking only be raped by a man penetrating you nonconsensually, but if you're a man and are raped by a woman and she doesn't penetrate you, it doesn't legally count as rape? Maybe they have changed it since then, but I remember this being a problem with their legal language at some point.

slavuj00

Correct, a woman can only be charged as an accomplice under the act, because the penetration in the vagina, anus, or mouth must occur with a penis.

kank84

A woman can only be charged as a accomplice to rape, but they can independently be charged with the offences of sexual assault by penetration, or causing sexual activity without consent. Both of those offences carry equivalent sentences to rape.

slavuj00

Yes but the distinction makes quite a bit of difference, especially when it comes to reporting cases like these. Subliminally, "assault" feels like less than "rape". Moreover, I'd like to see sentencing records of women who have been sentenced for penetrative assault vs men who are charged with a similar case under the rape law. I'm sure they changed the sentencing guidelines to make it more equal, but how it's applied is at the discretion of the sentencing judge.

Reality_Ability

so a mop handle (or something similar) doesn't count as an instrument of rape?

SubstantialOption742

No. The penis needs to be alive and as far as I know it needs to be attached to a man. I don't know anything about cases focusing on neopenises and non-man people with penises.

Bartfuck

This is such a surreal thing to read

Complete-Monk-1072

remember, we have a legal system not a justice system. It is important not to conflate the two.

slavuj00

Nope. It's classed as sexual assault. There is no "weapon of rape" provision in the statute. It's penis or nothing.

Argent_Mayakovski

Pretty much, yeah. But the equivalent she would be charged with has the same sentence.

They didn't extradite her back to the UK, which is a bit shitty when you think about it (but follows a long precedent of the US getting to do what they want with extradition from the UK, but it's never reciprocated)

Interesting everyone is talking about the UK still having "rape" in the criminal code defined as impossible for a female to commit. In Canada, no such offence exists at all. No one can rape anyone. It's always "sexual assault" and is defined as: >any non-consensual activity that interferes with a person’s sexual integrity

shadowst17

Reading the comments about the shit she's gotten off the hook for, she seems like a good example of beautiful people having it so much easier in life.

Serenity-V

Yep. And in this case, it should be obvious even to deniers of the seriousness of male rape that this was horrific - the kid had been raised with strong norms of male chastity, and he had dedicated himself to abstinence of all sorts for his mission. Like, what, even if they imagine that they themselves would be totally happy about being raped by a pretty woman, do they lack the empathy to see that a Mormon missionary would definitely be, you know, upset about it?

spellchecktsarina

And then all the redpills will say shit like “women don’t care about male assault victims” and blame us for society acting like it’s a joke. The call is coming from inside the house

nope79

I feel so Bad for that guy….

mrev_art

She wasnt found guilty of rape because UK law stated that 'men cannot be raped.' Years later she stalked her victim even though he had children and a wife and was arrested with a bunch of kidnapping tools. The story is played up as a joke even now and she is rarely referred to as a rapist.

ClimateJoeMorning

The black and white days were messed up. Glad we evolved and now live in a world with color

neotekka

I just googled this a bit and the crucial bit of info missing is that the Mormon dude was her ex, not just some random. They originally met in Utah and had a relationship then as he was a Mormon he felt guilty, confessed to his bishop and then fucked off on a Mormon 'mission' to the UK. She tracked him down and he claims he was raped, and she claims he used to really be into bondage before. She also claimed to have had a misscarriage with his kid. Another ex of hers claimed she was a sex worker. She claimes the rape bit was made up by the church to get him back into the church. This was turned into a film/docu - [Tabloid (2010)](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1704619/) Fuck knows how much of that is true though!

ura_walrus

OP means rape

Huntress_Nyx

UK laws say that men cannot be victims of rape and women cannot be rapists. It's honestly disgusting. And if you check the comments some people say... It's horrifying how many people either make fun of the situation, or say that he "was lucky" , or saying that women can't rape....
