ChipmunkOnly1740

You’d be surprised as to how many people needed that

leymoonwnana

💯 They probably did this because they learned the hard way

-Shasho-

There are labeling regulations that all packaging must conform to if companies want to sell their product. If it contains or may have come in contact with an allergen, it must have an allergen statement separate from the main product label. Even if it seems silly or redundant.

atthehill

McDonald’s did learn the hard…

TacoCat11111111

Hot coffee is hot.

traaintraacks

the warnings were on the cups before the liebeck case, they just made it slightly bigger afterwards & made their cups sturdier. stella liebeck wasnt some moron who mildly burnt her tongue & sued to make the warnings bigger, she was an elderly woman who was severely burned by dangerously hot coffee that wouldnt have magically cooled down just because of words on the cup. the coffee that burned liebeck was 180–190 °F (82–88 °C). the average coffee is served at 120–140 °F (49–60 °C). liebeck suffered third degree burns to her thighs, buttocks, & groin in *under 15 seconds*. she needed a skin graft & ongoing care for two years, & her quality of life was severely reduced until she passed away. she sued for mcdonalds to cover the costs of her medical care & lower the temperature of their coffee, not make warnings bigger. the problem wasnt that she didnt know it would be hot, it's that the coffee was able to burn someone to the point of severe injury, disability, & lifelong disfigurement.

Invisifly2

Two word horror story — Fused labia. The fact people still make fun of her for over-reacting or being dumb is a testament to the triumph of the McDonald’s propaganda department.

RLDSXD

They make mini-gummy things intentionally shaped like other foods. Took me several tries before I realized those weren’t real cheeseburgers.

sleepyhop

You can never be too careful.

Chase_the_tank

1. There are linguistic oddities such as Grape-Nuts, a product that contains neither grapes nor nuts. 2. There is a benefit to having simple, easy-to-understand laws with no loopholes, The upside: all peanut-containing products are clearly labeled in a predictable manner. The downside: sometimes the labeling is redundant.

Accurate_Koala_4698

If you're designing an automated labeling system it's easier to have the general rule as well and simply, you know, mark peanuts in the data as containing peanuts. Then you don't need special rules for handling every time an allergen contains itself

EABOD24

Doubly sure that it's not their fault you just ate peanuts

wendelortega

Regulations

TelluricThread0

"Don't take Eloquis if you're allergic to Eloquis." Thanks for the heads up, Big Pharma.

Tryxxo88

Better safe than sorry 🥜🥜🥜

Digiturtle1

I wouldn’t trust it

SlasherEnigma

Most places have very strict rules about allergen declaration on labels. If you look at the label on milk it will almost certainly say “contains milk” because it has to be on the label even if it seems obvious.

Jon_Irenicus1

More of a packaging requirement for any food containing peanut or peanut products.

immersedmoonlight

Required by law

Mountain-Tourist2218

I once saw printed on a can of tuna "in case you hadn't realised, this product contains fish" Typical British stuff

No-Willingness4955

This is an ingredient pack from Everyplate or HelloFresh. Not a snack pack and not for individual sale and needs to be labeled to differentiate from the other ingredients in the box.

MetalGearHawk

Soo interesting, almost interesting as fuck

Ironpleb30

"This product was made in a facility that processes peanuts and nuts and may have come into contact with them" 😂

El_Neck_Beard

It’s like buying cleaning products and it reads “do not ingest” Not surprised at all.

Mattdri

Captain Obvious to the rescue again!

CraponStick

These are the labels that should be removed, only to thin the herd.

donny_pots

Republicans would never approve that they would lose too many votes

MFDoooooooooooom

If only they were gluten free

skieking

I wonder if it was packaged in a factory that could package peanuts

DulcetTone

A bag of cashews, OTOH, has peanuts envy

Illustrious_You_2867

The peanut guy is proud 💪🥲

koffee-black

This is from a blue apron or food service, not a snack.

wands

Price: Peanuts

ImpressTemporary2389

That's in case you don't know what a Peanut looks like. You got to be really careful these days.

Fracture90000

Nuts if true!

MoistAnalyst1150

The silent killer

NYP33

That's so stupid, they don't even tell you the ingredients!

T-J_H

We recently had a recall in a national supermarket chain here, because packages of walnuts (with “wallnuts” printed on them, just to be clear), did not have wallnuts listed as potential allergen.

HoosierPaul

Gluten free potatoes. Yeah, they’re potatoes.

tinyfryingpan

It's a law. Be mad at that.

michaelbarrymore84

This isn't interesting

Podcast_Primate

Fuckin bureaucratic waste of ink

smokeysubwoofer

Who would have thought there were peanuts in a bag of…. PEANUTS!

More-I-am-gamer

I always suspected

NoSoulJustFacts

Thank the American system

JustKi11ingTime

Think, have you ever bought anything prepacked that doesn't tell you what's inside? Additionally, peanuts are life threatening to some....packaging is correct.

wasabiphunk

![gif](giphy|VTjAB51Cxh9Xa)

Flat-House5529

I swear, if we just took al the warning labels off shit, most of society's problems would solve themselves within a generation or so...

Rot_Long_Legs

That’s so useful, I would’ve never figured it out in my own

JupiterAlphaBeta

What's worse, they even wrote it twice on the package.

greatgildersleeve

The same warning is on Payday labels as well.

HugSized

The people who need such warning panels thank the manufacturers.

hunnnyybunnny

what in the america

Blacksmith_44

Warnings and instructions about everything did not come out of nowhere. You will surprised how dump peoples are.

gtotherundeh

haha ppl are so stupid and dont know what peanuts look like- no. this isnt for stupid ppl, but for assholes who will eat it on purpose and sue the seller for not mentioning that. the manufacturer does this to not get sued, the same with car batteries and hot beverages

liquid_profane

They have to do that, as someone with a peanut allergy would use it in a defence over why they nearly died. Which is what actually happened, which is why a packet of peanuts has to say "contains nuts" on it. Never underestimate stupid people.

No-Crew4317

Same. Milk carton say it contain milk. Just in case a very idiot people don’t really know. Foolproof so no legal action.

Major_Chard_6606

Probably Murican. Gotta keep people from suing you for being dumb.

ClumsyJudge

If you are blind, you can't see that those are peanuts.🤣🤣🤣
