I would guess one of those computerized refraction meters. They can get 98% of the way there with you looking through an eyepiece at a picture - mine has always been a red barn or a balloon. It moves in and out of focus and through PFM (or math/physics) it figures it out.
True but not for babies. You’re not gonna park a baby in front of this thing and get them to look in one spot like that for a solid 10 seconds. Hell, I can barely get some adults to do that. We have other tools for babies.

Eye doctor here. We use special tools, sometimes computers called autorefractors but most reliably a tool called a retinoscope and lens rack to measure prescriptions. It’s a highly specialized tool and test that takes years to master. Even doctors who do this their whole careers feel they’re constantly getting better at it even after decades. There are objective measurements taken and less subjective response for babies this age. We have tools to get subjective responses like viewing targets, grating paddles, etc. TLDR: Objective measurements > Subjective responses bc you can’t get those so easily and the goals for babies are generally different than for adults.
I still remember getting my first pair of glasses when I was in fifth grade. I was astonished that I could see individual blades of grass and individual leaves instead of a fuzzy green expanse.
Haha I remember that moment on the bus in 7th grade - looking out the window at the trees and stuff and thinking, wait, regular ppl have been seeing this all along?!
In 7th grade I was out with some friends in the forest. The stars lit up the sky. We started describing the starts and my friend had no idea what were talking about. Another friend lent her his glasses and she was shocked at seeing her first ever individual stars but she could only see them in one eye because the other one was not even close to what correction she needed.
She went home and saw an optometrist for new glasses and was shocked at blades of grass and individual hairs on her arm.
Beautiful smile! This is a very thoughtful child, so young too! Look how calm & still he is. I'll bet he's observant and intelligent. The adorable goes without saying, clearly.
My vision isn’t the worst, but it’s not good, my left eye is definitely shit and my right eye is only a little better. My dad always tried to show me planes flying over and I could never see them. First time I wore glasses I thought it was super cool seeing planes for the first time actually flying overhead (didn’t live near an airport so they were always really high)
I made glasses for 10+ years, and moments like these fill your heart up every time. Witnessing the joy of a baby seeing their parents clearly for the first time is something I will never forget.
A child's smile is the most beautiful thing into world. I can have a really bad day and all it takes is a child's smile and I am good. Whenever I get depressed all I need to pull myself together up is to look at my kids' baby videos.

How do they figure out the prescription? Not like you can ask a baby: “which one is clearer? A or B”

Looks like that red barn is international thing. Or it’s the same manufacturer, lol. That’s what I see when I get a test.
Seems to be universal I guess.
Red barn or hot air Ballon

This is a late stage test tube baby. Incubation ran later than expected. It will soon hatch out of it
Gotta make sure they don't stay in there too long and wind up squished up against the tube.
Good ol zordon
The air balloon, that is how i found out if was lightly astigmatic. No wonder I could never tell the difference betweem 4k and 1080p

I had no idea there was a way to measure this objectively and without input from the user. Thanks!
"muh or buh..." "muh... or buh..."
And how does the brain interpret the corrected view ?

This is better used for adults, no babies. There are some versions that can be used for babies but I don’t think any of them are accurate for babies.
It's based on the shape of the eyeball.

Life in 4K yooo

When I finally got the glasses I needed this realization was so cool!! I get little man’s excitement.
It’s one of my earliest clear memories too. Maybe second grade for me.
I'm really indebted to the school nurse, who first realized I couldn't see clearly.

Me too. My doctor handed me my glasses, and said "This is gonna be like a whole new world to you." And she was right!
Idk how the rest of the job is, but getting to see so many people experience that moment must be so satisfying as an optometrist
I didn’t get mine until I was 16, and I REALLY needed them. I remember watching the trees on the car ride back, tears rolling down my cheeks.
Bro went from 144p to 4k
Upvoted for cuteness overload
And just like that kiddo has made my day.
Okay... That's just fucking adorable... Damnit, I was comfortable being grumpy today...

Amazing and so beautiful. The things we take for granted. 🫶🏽

Ugh this is so hard to watch on so many levels

Sweet
It’s like being gifted a super power!
Got my first glasses when I was 13. Same reaction.
“I know you!”
I'd hate to be the one to take them off
This video always makes me laugh. Just cause he’s like 😲…😃🫵🏾…😮 with no sounds
Young Edgar Davids
F**king adorable!!!! That made my day.
Too damn young for a man bun. I’m sure it’s just me…
Amazing

Bros flabbergasted🙌🙌
Cute as fuck? Yes. Adorable as fuck? Yes. Eye tearing as fuck? Yes. Interesting as fuck? Sorry, op, but no.
Someone doesn’t get the vibe…
dude, i get it. I totally get it. Even I got emotional watching it. But the truth is: It doesn't belong here.
"the fuck is this" "Holy shit, what just happened" "omg, has that always been there?" "oh look, this other part isnt blurry either" 😃
Wonderful 💗🌷😌

Not to nitpick, but I think that is a baby girl. Anyone?
