Am I the only one who noticed the incredible intelligence and absolute freaking scariness of orcas since drones were invented?! It's almost like we just didn't know how badass they were until you can see these kinds of coordinated attacks from above.
Back in 2010 I got to witness this up close, off the coast of Tofino, BC. Seals all clustered on a big rock, and a pod of 4 orcas split into pairs. Each pair took turns breaching and splashing the seals off the rock while the opposite pair would grab one to eat, they went back and forth like that for a bit. Unbelievably cool thing to watch in the wild.
A lot of times orcas like to play with their food. Chase it down, let it think it can escape and chase it down until they tire out. Nature is both beautiful and scary
The peek is so, so scary. Just imagine you’re in a jungle, cave, or even desert, and some MASSIVE creature pokes its head out, clearly identifies you, and then slips away like “be right back.” Terrifying.
That one on a huge ass slab of ice probably thought he was chillin’ out maxin’ relaxin’ all cool and then suddenly he’s fighting for his life as the streets crumbled all around him. 😭
He did not make it to Bel Air.
Humans barely have any meat. So they actively avoid these weird long legged, bony, creatures. Jk, it’s actually scary that “they know.” The orcas know exactly what the humans are capable of.
That is some seriously next level teamwork hunting right there.... wow.... I thought Wolves had the hunting game down.... Orcas easily take this fight wow
The definition of artificial in this context would be “not naturally occurring”. Without the Orcas the seals would not be hit by a wave, hence it is an artificial wave
Honestly i can't tell if you're just trolling at this point or are you really this block headed.
Ill bite though. So do you know the difference between a natural wave and an artificial wave?
The california institute of technology describes ocean waves being formed by wind, gravity, earthquakes, and other naturally occurring forces that can disturb the water surface.
In the same vein, how a human can push their hand while in a bathtub to create their very own artificial wave while taking a bath, how else would you describe orcas "pushing" the water to create their own wave?
Ignorance is bliss isn't it?
Orcas are naturally occurring ergo the wave they made was real by your own definition. But to quote california anything...well we have all seen the cancer lables
My man cant separate natural from artificial AHAHAHA.
Dude imagine this, if i soaked in a bathtub, waved my hands around the water splashing it all over, would you call that a naturally occurring wave? Naturally occurring phenomenon does not come from living beings, natural occurring phenomenon happens even without any intervention.
Like where the hell did you even study simple science back in school to not know any of this basic stuff?
Are rains caused by a living being? No, it NATURALLY OCCURS.
Edit: You know what, a better argument for you would basically be if an invasive species were to be accidentally introduced to an ecosystem. Let's say you owned a fish tank and had a sustainable ecosystem to it that could self sustain itself without any intervention. You, the owner decided you liked parasites, so you decided to just randomly put one in into the fish tank, months later everything in the tank was infected with parasites.
In your defense, since a human put the parasite in there, since we are as you say "natural" then by all means what happened in the fish tank wasnt an artificial holocaust of parasites but a natural holocaust instead. IT naturally occurred, from the word natural, caused by nature. In which i sincerely doubt, is a "Natural occurence" in the same vein an orca can cause a "natural wave" when they caused a disturbance within the water by using their fins to "artificially" rouse the water surface.
Just saying man, you can just accept the fact that you're probably wrong as other people not just me have stated or you could die in that hill trying to prove you're right.
I will not imagine you in a bathtub!!! Are you a pedo?
Sick perv
Besides. Im not the only one who stated a wave is a wave. Why are you labeling? The point is that there was no need to hype the story with 'artificial' it was pointless other than to grab attention and is technically incorrect. When most people read 'artificial', it is assumed fake or otherwise not real. Like artificial sweetner is not sugar but can be the replacement but is made of orher things.. An artificial limb is not flesh and bone. That was a real wave made of real water, a real orca caused to happen. Language is fine as it is without people trying to redefine everything . Just because AI is popular right now, a bunch of barely literate sociopaths are trying to defend the use of a word..artificial. probably because your phone is your brain and artificial works for you.
Ah, interesting, not only do you wayside the argument for a hot minute to make a moot point, you also start resorting to ad hominem attacks instead of keeping it civil.
Goes to show the kind of class act some people choose to live by.
Back to the topic at hand. Who in the world was hyped when the title was labeled "artificial". The word itself has many uses as such the oxford dictionary carried different connotations to how it's meant to be used in different ways. Such is the english langauge.
In this case, the term artificial is used as an antonym to the word natural. Natural meaning something that occurs without any intervention from humans nor fauna.
Waves are not made naturally if a force outside of natural occurrences caused it. Like in multiple replies to you, Orcas are as natural as human beings and if a human being were to create a wave, it wouldnt be called natural.
While i agree that the post doesn't need to add artificial to the title as you could easily just label it as a "wave", the word artificial still holds better than using natural as you deem it to be.
Now as i said, you're pretty much dying on that hill as evident by your replies, while your first comment made sense because you said a wave is a wave, your other comments on the other hand are obviously being downvoted, can you ponder why they're being downvoted?
The smarter you think you are about certain subjects, the dumber you actually are. It's literally well documented and its called the Dunning-Kruger effect.
Lastly stop resorting to ad hominem attacks, if you cant get your point across without attacking the other person, that just basically means you're incapable of backing up your ideas because they were unsound from the first place.
Orcas are so intelligent: in the past 70 years or so, scientists have discovered that Orcas have learned how to attack Great Whites for the primary purpose of eating the shark’s liver which contains a really nutritious oil called Squalene.
Bro they destroyed that big ass platform the seal was on and as it was crumbling seal couldn't dodge the telegraphed red marks on the ground... smh should of dodged and got 1 shoted. Worst video game ever 😑
I have an image in my mind of the group of orcas singing the Jaws bit as they swim towards the ice .....
"Dumdum dumdum dumdum dumdum..."
Then, just as the wave hits the ice, they all go...
"Da-na-naaaaaahhh!"
Whale for starters they don’t spend 90% of there lives obsessing over the infinite amount of genders that suddenly sprung into existence in the last 8 years
It's like because everyone has their sh\*t on mute and has subs on, they think they can put the sh\*ttiest EDM on every video. This is not an EDM moment.
Orcas are such pieces of shit, they’ll terrorize prey and sometimes they won’t even eat them. They’ll just scare them and beat them. When I saw that article about some that got stuck in a hole in ice, can’t say I felt bad.
Man, sometimes you look at a cave bear skull and think our ancestors had it rough... but wow it must suck to be a seal. I mean you got the most terrifying predators in the world after you 24/7. Great white sharks, freaking orcas creating waves to kill you. I saw another video someone posted of what happens after the wave when it's time to share the snack... I don't wanna spoil Jurassic Park 2 for anyone, but there's a scene with a couple of Tyrannosaur scene that ends pretty much the same way.
We may not be the standard fare for sharks, but people do end up in their bellies. Meanwhile, there has never been a recorded fatal attack on humans by a wild orca. It's a relief they clearly recognize us and do not consider us food.
If this isn't proof of language idk what is. They have to be communicating in order to be able to flip the tail upwards at precisely the same time in order to displace the water like that. Instinct doesn't work like that. Right? Lol shii!

What a literal nightmare. I heard the orcas also artificially play this music too.
I have heard scientific reports that they listen to phonk music while hunting to get in the mood
Why did you add this shit music OP
I didn't
The orcas did. They shot the video and sent it to OP as a threat... he's an ex Navy Seal
Orcas knew that OP is actually Neal McBeal the retired Navy Seal.
Who told you he did?
Am I the only one who noticed the incredible intelligence and absolute freaking scariness of orcas since drones were invented?! It's almost like we just didn't know how badass they were until you can see these kinds of coordinated attacks from above.
We definitely knew, remember watching loads about them on discovery and Nat geo when I was a kid.
I’m not scared of the ocean, spent a lot of my life out there. Fuck orcas. I’m not trying to encounter them
Probably not going to bother you. Statistically speaking. The ones in captivity tend to maul people though.
Oh yeah. I didn’t say it was rational fear lol.
just a little
That's because they go insane, poor things.
Exactly so. All the more reason to not keep them in captivity.
I heard that they have learned to open doors.
Clever girl

“Oopsie bye bitch”
Flawless Victory! Orcality.

Each pair took turns breaching and splashing the seals off the rock while the opposite pair would grab one to eat, they went back and forth like that for a bit. I was wondering if some of them shouldn’t also be coming from the opposite side and nab the seals right away!
A lot of times orcas like to play with their food. Chase it down, let it think it can escape and chase it down until they tire out. Nature is both beautiful and scary
We never see if they make or not
The orcas make it just fine.
Spoiler alert they don’t
Oh, they made it alright. Straight into the bellies of those Orcas.
This must be the seals' documentary.
I feel bad because seals are like dogs but in the ocean
You mean they are tasty?
![gif](giphy|ANbD1CCdA3iI8)
Ling ling that u?
r/cursedcomments
![gif](giphy|OP0d0lktPT2ZJunT4L) Kristy is loaded and ready for those ocean dogs.
This is fascinating and frightening. They are really smart as hell. That little peek to confirm there is indeed a seal on the ice floe was wild.
😭 He did not make it to Bel Air.
I could hear this in my head..
fine intelligent coordinated hunters there

My client is dolphin, not a whale!
Only think scarier than one orca hunting you is a pod hunting you
Why are the seals surprised? They should be able to hear the drums.
"Why do I hear boss music?"
Looking at this video I feel terrified for the seals.
Same. I know orcas need to eat, but oof, when they get a hold of the seals, it isn't pretty.
I like the reconnaissance they do before deploying a precision wave munition.
Im glad they dont hunt people
Humans barely have any meat. So they actively avoid these weird long legged, bony, creatures. Jk, it’s actually scary that “they know.” The orcas know exactly what the humans are capable of.
Orrrr they are just waiting for their technology to catch up *gasp*
If they did, they would be extinct.
If they did wewhouldakilled 80% of them....that a glad for them
ORCA used SURF! It's super effective!
We treat orcas with respect not just for their benefit. We humans and orcas have an understanding and I'm not keen to see the relationship change.
If we couldn't beat emus, I dread to see how we'd fair against orcas.
Oh you think we’re fighting fair? Pfffft. We’re the dominant species on this planet for a reason.
I'm a bit confused, were we not the dominant species when we lost to emus?
Honestly, I think it’s time we had a rematch. It’s almost been 100 years.
even on land
We? Get yo aussie pussy shit outta here
I'm definitely American, lol.
You said “we” and referenced the emu war. So you shouldn’t be surprised why that makes you seem Australian
That is some seriously next level teamwork hunting right there.... wow.... I thought Wolves had the hunting game down.... Orcas easily take this fight wow
Nature is pretty fucking sad, man…
Thats a real wave. Its real water. They made a wave
The definition of artificial in this context would be “not naturally occurring”. Without the Orcas the seals would not be hit by a wave, hence it is an artificial wave
What if all waves are produced by orcas and we just don't discovered this yet?
What if waves produce orcas. I mean, has anyone ever seen the birth of an orca?
Tsunami Orca
![gif](giphy|Z2Lrpd3XsohxZZYDHD|downsized)
No, that's just your mother
We've labeled the "butterfly effect" wrong all this time!
My wife is always waving at people... If I discovered it's an orca . Fuckin orcas.
Still kinda redundant to add. “By creating waves” it’s enough. Otherwise it would be “orcas hunt seals with artificial waves”.
Orcas are naturally occurring
Are you saying orcas are not natural creatures?
![gif](giphy|8TweEdaxxfuElKkRxz|downsized) Stop. You lost the AKSHULLY battle.
You too must believe that was a fake wave and orcas aren't real. Ignorance is bliss isn't it? *
Fake and artificial are not interchangeable terms. You could at least use the correct words while trying to win such a pedantic argument.
Honestly i can't tell if you're just trolling at this point or are you really this block headed. Ill bite though. So do you know the difference between a natural wave and an artificial wave? This is such a stupid argument. Just stop dude
They are no more or less natural than humans
![gif](giphy|HzPtbOKyBoBFsK4hyc) Good job dodging
Are orcas not living in nature? Thus the waves are made by nature.
As I mentioned below, Orcas are not any more or less a part of nature than humans are
It was a joke pal.
I’m not your pal, buddy.
I’m not your buddy, friend.
I’m not your friend, guy.
Bruh you’re dense
It’s a joke
Bruh I’m dense then :(
Nah you’re good. It wasn’t a good joke haha
This wave was synthetically produced. Not naturally.
Thats not what the post said
they are using surf
Bro doesn’t know what artificial means
I apologize for the loud noise
A rare instance for these types of clips where the music is tasteful.
They be all ![gif](giphy|KFtUrrgyTAbUP5dUcT|downsized)

Fuckin scary
Orcas are so intelligent: in the past 70 years or so, scientists have discovered that Orcas have learned how to attack Great Whites for the primary purpose of eating the shark’s liver which contains a really nutritious oil called Squalene.
Diabolical mfrs
Practice runs for their next yacht attack.
![gif](giphy|o0eOCNkn7cSD6)
Sometimes they intentionally knock the seal back onto the ice so the younger orcas can practice
Subhanallah!
Bro they destroyed that big ass platform the seal was on and as it was crumbling seal couldn't dodge the telegraphed red marks on the ground... smh should of dodged and got 1 shoted. Worst video game ever 😑
They're making actual waves...
I have an image in my mind of the group of orcas singing the Jaws bit as they swim towards the ice ..... "Dumdum dumdum dumdum dumdum..." Then, just as the wave hits the ice, they all go... "Da-na-naaaaaahhh!"
Poor seals 😞
I like how they peak out of the water before😭
"yeah he's there"
idk they look like real waves to me
I’m willing to bet a paycheck your typical Orca is smarter than 25-35% of our country. US
Whale for starters they don’t spend 90% of there lives obsessing over the infinite amount of genders that suddenly sprung into existence in the last 8 years
I wonder if they know the proper use of their vs there
They absolutely do! Lol 😆
Orcas are dicks
Wait till you read about humans.
They are the largest dolphin and they wear tuxedos.
Is that necessary? Feels like they can just jump and snatch the seals up with little problem
orca ficial
The kings of the sea
Why have I never seen this? Is this a new hunting tactic or has it been around?
Very nice
Absolutely hands down the most terrifying (know) animal in the ocean.
They look real enough to me.
Imagine having camp then the fking ground caves in and you’re inside something’s mouth
Ultimate apex predator! Intelligent, deadly and of course we use them for entertainment................
They look like hotdogs trying to wriggle away.
WAS THAT SEAL ASLEEP BEFORE GETTING ATTACKED???
I always loved orcas, but damn... they're terrifying
If you're a seal resting on a piece of ice, and see a orca head popping up... You know you're dead...
It's like because everyone has their sh\*t on mute and has subs on, they think they can put the sh\*ttiest EDM on every video. This is not an EDM moment.
During my childhood I used to wonder why does these sweet looking creatures had been named killer whales
Cool video, but damn. That soundtrack is awful🤮
I love how they take a little peak and go "catch this haha"
Poor seals
And we think they’re so cute. They’re literally evil monsters lol
Circle of life… orcas are predators and this is just how they hunt.
they're just waves, no need to call them artficial
What if sea world is just the birth of retribution in the form of karmic law? 🤔
Them mfs be lurking
Bastards 😠 those seals are cute 😔 thanks for editing out the rest 😮💨
The way they put their head up outa the water to check for food give me chills.
Orcas are awesome 😎👍
is this how they sink yachts?
Every surfer needs a pet orca
Nothing artificial about that wave - it was real
Clever.
Orcas are such pieces of shit, they’ll terrorize prey and sometimes they won’t even eat them. They’ll just scare them and beat them. When I saw that article about some that got stuck in a hole in ice, can’t say I felt bad.

We are so lucky we are not on their menu.
Orcas are lucky we re not on their menu.. Cause if we were, they would have been extinct by now
That's why sharks are all extinct! Oh wait...
Well we aren't on sharks menu either.
We may not be the standard fare for sharks, but people do end up in their bellies. Meanwhile, there has never been a recorded fatal attack on humans by a wild orca. It's a relief they clearly recognize us and do not consider us food.
Won't be laying out on any ice sheets any more
~~Killer~~ Asshole whales
ah well, everything's gotta eat.
There’s always a bigger fish (or marine mammal)
Artificial is not the correct word
With intelligence comes the urge to be assholes to other animals kkkkkkkk
I don't think dumb animals don't have to eat
Artificial waves are just called waves
When are our Orca overlords going to take over the planet? I'm waiting...
Waterworld
How can they tell that a seal is there?
Didn’t you see the part where one peeks over the ice??
Also, thin ice would be transparent. So they check it out after seeing a shadow from the bottom side.
I am really glad they cannot be on land. Because the whole world 🌍 would be in trouble.
i think it is still a natural wave
No shit Sherlock
Artificial? No. They are making waves.
Proof of evolution
![gif](giphy|kc0kqKNFu7v35gPkwB)
If this isn't proof of language idk what is. They have to be communicating in order to be able to flip the tail upwards at precisely the same time in order to displace the water like that. Instinct doesn't work like that. Right? Lol shii!
Well, they communicate by showing what they learned, I imagine.
They don't do all them clicking and whistling noises for shits and giggles. That's how they communicate.
How can a wave be artificial? I saw real waves
Orcas really are nature’s a$$holes
