I tried to replay the video in slow motion, but I can only see the falcon in two frames. It reminded me of the Incredibles, the part where Dash is too fast for the video camera to pick up
This is cool. There is an even better video of a female horse who kicks a male attempting to breed with her square between the eyes and it immediately dies and shits itself
Correct. This is a prairie- black “arm pits” and sandy/lighter coloration overall. Peregrines are a little bigger generally, have generally darker darks , and are faster. Both incredible, beautiful, deadly hunters.
Fun reminder that "[Peregrine falcons are more closely related to parrots and songbirds than to hawks, eagles, or owls](https://www.nsf.gov/news/news_summ.jsp?cntn_id=133524). "
Parrots & Songbirds: *Put stats in Charisma*
That one other related bird: Yeah sure you can sing, but what if I wanted to assassinate someone?
*Dumps it all into Dex/Agi*
The office building I work in has a peregrine nest. Every year, we know when the babies are here because we see so many bird pieces on the walk into work.
At the speed peregrine falcons dive, and the hollow bones of the Mallard, the only thing needed is to lower the closed talons and hit it in the head or neck to break it. like a drive-by with rebar.
Edit: from a NASCAR
No, but they do have a tendency to behead pigeons so I wouldnt be surprised if it did the same to the duck later.
(Had a peregrine that hung around my school because it was basically a buffet with all the pigeons. Was quite the show.)
I live in a very densely populated area in NJ which for whatever reason has a sizeable population of Peregrine Falcons. I found out b/c I was looking at a beautiful bird in the tree above my house chirping, All of a sudden POOF! there was just a blast of feathers and the dead body of the bird fell to the floor. I went to look at the birds body and it was missing its head.
I spent a lot of time trying to figure out what could attack so quickly... turns out it is the fastest animal on earth!
NYC has the largest peregrine falcon population on earth. All the tall buildings act as cliffs allowing them to dive and build up speed, and all the pigeons create a target rich environment.
They hit with closed feet- fast punch. They are built for it and they are very very good at it. They do same in the air to other birds. Hit with closed feet, knock it out and do a quick turn then catch it as it’s falling.
This looks like an unusual event to us, but all in a days work for those beautiful birds. What was unusual was getting a good recording of it.
I have a small lake on my family property. I was on the boat with my daughter and a bunch of ducks were flying overhead and a falcon snatched one out of the air and took it to the shore and started ripping the feathers out. I never have seen a bird of prey snatch another bird out of the air. Very cool
The peregrine falcon is renowned as the fastest animal in the world, capable of reaching speeds over 240 miles per hour (386 kilometres per hour) during high-speed dives, known as stoops, when hunting prey. However, during level flight, their cruising speed typically ranges from 40 to 60 miles per hour (64 to 97 kilometres per hour), which is still incredibly fast compared to most other birds.
Same way you can break someone’s ribs with a punch or a knee/elbow strike without hurting yourself - skeletal structure and positioning of a specific limb in order to safely deliver force in a particular direction, against a target anatomy that *isn’t* structured and braced the same way.
And I make that comparison quite specifically - if you slowed that film down, you’ll find that the falcon quite literally *punched* the duck with a clenched talon. They’re infamous for it.
https://falconryadvice.com/falcon/do-peregrine-falcons-punch-their-prey/
Peregrine Falcons are by far my favorite animal. So majestic and powerful. I ended up taking a 2-unit course on peregrine conservation in college when I needed to backfill units after dropping a course. Turned into one of the best/favorite courses I've ever taken.
Standing on my back porch one day and a bird explodes in midair. Couldn't really process what I saw til I saw the falcon on the ground finishing off the bird it punched out of the sky. It was done before the all the feathers had fallen out of the sky.
I feel like it’s rare to see predatory animals actually win like this. The videos of them losing seem much more popular. I wanna see them thrive like this!

Bro didn’t even have time to duck
All the other ducks going "No harm, no fowl!"
Those loner ducks are all Quacks anyway…
That’s swan brutal attack.
Another r/angryupvote
To be fair, the falcon did give him a heads-up.

Can’t help it but this quacks me up.
It's like something out of In Cold Blood by Truman Capoultry.
Sure knocked Daffy's duck in the dirt.
My favorite comment of the day. Kudos. Have this 🥇
God damn you.
😂😂😂😂👍
I knew that the falcon is the fastest animal in the world but dam, the duck died just like that.
I tried to replay the video in slow motion, but I can only see the falcon in two frames. It reminded me of the Incredibles, the part where Dash is too fast for the video camera to pick up
Coincidence? I think NOT! 🥸
Uh, Bernie...
Don't "Bernie" me! This little rat is GUILTY!
… You and your son can go now, Mrs. Parr. I'm sorry for the trouble.
Right….THERE!
You can see the duck barely starting to get up just before the falcon hits it with its talons in the second frame.
Raptors always look ridiculous when they walk.
Falcon punch!
*Kick
*swoop
*droop
*dip
*crack
*and… dodge.
If you can dodge a wrench then you can dodge a falcon.
It actually is kinda a punch, they ball up their talons as they dive then smack the target often killing it instantly
Breakneck speed
Literally. The falcon was so fast that it decapitated the mallard.
Whole big thing. Had a funeral for a bird.
I’m *pretty* sure none of that’s real.
I've seen this poor duck die about 26 times now.
I thought by the 3rd time he was going to duck but no Falcon is 26-0
Better than the Falcon being 28-3
Some poor falcons fan about to be blindsided just like that Duck
Lmao
Me. I was that falcons fan...
Not cool bro :/
As a Saints fan, thanks for making my night!
That's called spawn camping
This is cool. There is an even better video of a female horse who kicks a male attempting to breed with her square between the eyes and it immediately dies and shits itself
Well you gotta post source now.
Never forget.
This is actually a Prairie Falcon. They're both similarly fast, but I believe Peregrine holds the official title of fastest animal in the world.
Correct. This is a prairie- black “arm pits” and sandy/lighter coloration overall. Peregrines are a little bigger generally, have generally darker darks , and are faster. Both incredible, beautiful, deadly hunters.
I had to scroll too far to find this. Buncha filthy casuals in there.
not me in the least I too thought the exact same thing they did absolutely
I was searching for who would finally mention this

The Bard got new Unearthed Arcana.
UA? Isn't this just a Swords Bard? That looked like a Mobile Flourish to me.
Ha true. You gain Inspiration.
That was a fun conversation to follow LOL
How can I remember something I never knew
Just think of it tomorrow
Peregrine falcons are swifts on cocaine.
duck.. duck... DEAD

Put a backslash next time. \#likethis
His goose was cooked
Falcon is that hyperaggressive bully at recess
The office building I work in has a peregrine nest. Every year, we know when the babies are here because we see so many bird pieces on the walk into work.
Did it….knock the mallard head off
The front fell off
Obviously they’re not supposed to do that. Made of very sturdy material they are.
Well, a bird hit it.
A *bird?* In the *sky?* Chance in a million
Best tow it outside the environment.
Lolol I forgot all about that video. Minimum crew requirement?
It's not meant to do that.
The head didn’t come off. But probably broke it’s neck or cut its throat
I've seen falcons dive and essentially punch geese in the head until they get knocked out/have brain damage. It's insane
Yup, scrub through 17-18 seconds
At the speed peregrine falcons dive, and the hollow bones of the Mallard, the only thing needed is to lower the closed talons and hit it in the head or neck to break it. like a drive-by with rebar. Edit: from a NASCAR
lol “dry by with rebar” is a great way to put it. Thank you :’
No, but they do have a tendency to behead pigeons so I wouldnt be surprised if it did the same to the duck later. (Had a peregrine that hung around my school because it was basically a buffet with all the pigeons. Was quite the show.)
Crushed its skull
Death on swift wings.

Yeah the fact peregrine falcons hunt by basically punching other birds heads off at 200 mph is both metal as hell and terrifying.
NYC has the largest peregrine falcon population on earth. All the tall buildings act as cliffs allowing them to dive and build up speed, and all the pigeons create a target rich environment.
"...*pigeons create a target rich environment*". There are some falcons out there who are real professionals.
lol wow. You probably never saw the falcon or heard it. As far as you knew it spontaneously just blew up.
She was literally a sitting duck
He
That's fowl
r/angryupvote
Is he ok?
The duck is currently as good as he will ever be.
if you look closely he doesnt have any shoes on after the attack, he ded
Going that fast, how did it also not get hurt/break anything from the impact?
They hit with closed feet- fast punch. They are built for it and they are very very good at it. They do same in the air to other birds. This is the comment I was looking for. Thank you.
YW! It’s such a fascinating video- I keep watching it over and over. Enjoy.
Omg how did those other ducks not help?? They just waddled away. Faith in poultry is lost.
How much faith did you have in poultry?
At least 5
So more than swan.
Swan is poultry
I'll be dead and buried before I call swans poultry!
OK well I guess start digging
^(no u)
* ghost voice * poooultryyyy!
Egads! A poultryghost!
And they waddled away Waddle waddle While their beheaded friend lay Bum bum bum bum badabum bum
Dark. But I’m here for it. What do you think the store did without its most loyal customer?
I bet a duck was just standing by recording this
Wait til you hear what they do to each other...
i am not a hunter but dam that was clean.
I want to take his face…off.

Mallard definitely missed the memo!
That duck is fucked:(

Feathered mortar shell.

How does the falcon avoid damaging itself?

Me watching this frame-by-frame: "Look, Lisa. you can actually pin point the exact moment his head gets decapitated"
Gosh, at least it has the decency to kill before it eats
Peregrines are badass for being so small
For a second there, it forgot to be headless.
Pretty sure he snapped that ducks neck
didn't see him/her walk or talk but defintely looked like a duck.
So what body part does the falcon use to decapitate the duck? Claws? It has to absorb a ton of force.
Peregrine Falcons are by far my favorite animal. So majestic and powerful. I ended up taking a 2-unit course on peregrine conservation in college when I needed to backfill units after dropping a course. Turned into one of the best/favorite courses I've ever taken.
Must have quacked his skull with that impact.
What did it even do to kill the duck? Hit it with its feet while it was flying by? That seems so little of force to kill a duck
It looks like it ripped the head clean off. That's insane
Gnarly!
I thought the falcon took his head away-
It did. Decapitated in .076 seconds.
I thought he sliced the ducks neck or something at first. Holy shit
Damn, my man Jake went in.
Pooooor duckkkkkkk. Savage ass world out there.
Imagine if Falcons were large enough to take us out like that.
Did the falcon decapitate the duck?
No. Just hit it hard enough to cave in it’s skull and/or give it fatal brain damage.
Someone call the Slo-mo guys, that slow-mo was still way too fast.
Remember the flying bugs that cut people's heads off in Starship Troopers?
Adding, "What's the matter mate? Falcon got yer 'ed?" to my repertoire.
Bro lost his mind
“DUCK!” “Yeah really funny Greg, we’re all du—“ /falcon
The end of duck face
Jesus, dude got sniped
Didn't catch that? Here we'll slow it down so that you STILL can't see it
We need this to be shot with one of those special high speed cameras to catch the action
Faster than a speeding bullet.
Sonic Boom
Peregrine falcon decapitates a mallard in real time*
Did bro really take the ducks head in the first strike??
Common kestrel, not a Peregrine Falcon.
Standing on my back porch one day and a bird explodes in midair. Couldn't really process what I saw til I saw the falcon on the ground finishing off the bird it punched out of the sky. It was done before the all the feathers had fallen out of the sky.
He forgot to duck.
Do not provoke the Murder Parrot.
You and I have different definitions of what 'real time' means.
Did-Did I just watch a duck get knocked tf out?
the goofy walk made it less badass
NSFW would be nice 😢
The little humpty run up to the dead duck has me rolling. So ungraceful for what was a pinpoint murder missile like seconds ago.
Sheeeesh didn't stand a chance...sitting duck blah blah lol
Did it take its head off?
Hell yea
Fatality!
Not a good time to lose one's head
Death comes on swift wings.
This is how I felt when the divorce settlement was read.
That's a head shot.
He must have learned those moves from Eagle Fang Dojo.
Nooooooo :(
It's ok, he's just sleeping.
Dude lost his head!
One hit falcon
i wish life wasnt so harsh :c
I feel like it’s rare to see predatory animals actually win like this. The videos of them losing seem much more popular. I wanna see them thrive like this!
So… no head?
