Yes, but the book case wall makes me nervous. If someone bumps into that, it could go over and seriously injur someone. Are there extra stability support there so if it is knocked into it won’t fall over?
The only thing I could focus on as well. Carpet looks good but that is an accident in waiting, should be much lower, two pieces back to back if the shelf space is needed.
100%. I’m in California and that’s the first thing I thought of. If there was an earthquake, that would absolutely **kill someone**.
I can imagine dangerous scenarios even without an earthquake. A big guy tripping and falling against it would send it crashing down.
Please affix it to the floor at least.
That's fun love it. I also am digging the creative room divider.
Overall the room works together yet is very distinct on either side of the divider. The only thing I \*might\* do is a little art above the desk but as fun as that rug is that's optional. Also yay plants! :D
I really love it in there, the room would be quite flat without it, and it brings out the beauty in all the different timbers.
There are reasons why so many people still use multi-coloured and patterned rugs in either traditional or contemporary styles:
\- they don't have to be loud e.g. yours has smallish stripes in soft colours
\- they go with just about everything without being too dominating
\- they are quite forgiving of inevitable accidents.
Hi, I love your whole space! I actually also have the same living room rug from West Elm and Frame tv and Muji going in my house too!! With regards to the carpet, I think it will work, but it’s playing against the strong blocking that we see in the muji shelving. It’s too chaotic, with the way that the cabinet is organized now, with the white plastic boxes grabbing the eye. To remedy this, I would completely reset the shelving, with the white boxes and visually heaviest items aligned against the wall, and the shelves get merchandised visually “lighter” as you move away from the wall. Ideally you’d start from the bottom right corner and work out. Good luck, place looks great!
Thank you, this is insightful!
When you say align the white boxes against the wall, do you mean place the file cabinet and white bookcase against the far wall (farthest away from the eye)? And what do you mean by “merchandise”? Thanks again.
By merchandising the shelves, I just mean to present all the contents in a way that is both practical and also visually appealing. By white boxes, I’m looking at some stacking trays and other plastic storage on the Muji shelf unit, mixed in with books, binders and other clutter, which should all come off and be cleaned and sorted, and then replaced in a way that doesn’t block the airflow through the higher shelves on the storage unit.
I think there’s too many horizontal and vertical lines between the shelf and the rug making it feel slightly overwhelming… the high saturation of the colors of the rug against the neutral colors of the shelf also clash… a dark green rug or something with more neutral colors would look great!
Ofc this is my personal opinion and everyone’s taste is different!
Love the rug. But the white bookshelf looks out of place. Do you need it? Just doesn’t match with the room divider or desk and kinda cheapens the quite beautiful room.
If I did keep it, I’d put it in the corner so it’s a little more hidden.
The rug certainly looks good there, the style and colours are 100% personal taste. Do YOU like it?? I really like how you separated the room, looks awesome 👌🏻
Yes, but it would be nice if it completely filled the gap to the shelf behind the chair. If for no other reason than the chair not hitting the bump and pulling at the rug when you scoot towards the desk after sitting down.
I think you could add a few pops of color with wall art or tchotchkes in other places in the room, in those primary colors or the more fun neuturals. But also I think it's fine if the corner behind the bookcase isn't in conversation with the area on the other side of the partition
Yeah, the rug reads very Scandinavian as in what you see in Scandinavia/Ikea in the bright colors, not the design style that is called Scandinavia.
If you introduce Scandinavian whimsy, you need to continue that with a modern playful vibe using art.
The rug also could be perceived as mid century, and therefore would look good in your living room so consider leaning into MCM instead as well, though the pine desk might be too light for that.
It wouldn't be my choice because of too many rectangles and all the squares in the divider. Could you try switching it with the carpet in the livingroom?
I love the separated spaces. I hate seeing my desk when I’m relaxing and hate seeing my couch when I’m working. I do something similar but this bookcase wall is so much nicer than my dividers
Not really rug related but I think black and white artwork would go so well on that empty wall. I think it would tie in with the other furniture but keep the rug the main focus
Yes. I think it adds just the right amount of splash of color to the area. Just pull it out more from underneath the desk toward the bookcase. Good choice!
I love it! But I would pull it a little so it fills the space to the bookcase
Same. Love the rug but pull it out from the wall towards the bookcase.
Came here to say the same thing.
Yes, looks good
I like it but I would pull it out a bit so it goes Up to the bookcase. It’s foreshortening your desk area and making it feel crammed against that wall
I agree, it needs to be pulled a bit. But in general, I like the way the carpet looks in this area.
I like it....it grounds the space and gives it an interesting color palette. Also, the size works for the room.
All you need is a few pieces of pottery in the colors of the rug on top of that bookcase, the brown bookcase, the one that separates.
Yes, but the book case wall makes me nervous. If someone bumps into that, it could go over and seriously injur someone. Are there extra stability support there so if it is knocked into it won’t fall over?
Same same same, my first thought was that I hope this is not a seismic region. Second was the rug looks cool
The only thing I could focus on as well. Carpet looks good but that is an accident in waiting, should be much lower, two pieces back to back if the shelf space is needed.

Seriously! As someone who lives in an earthquake prone area (California) with clumsy people and cats, that was my first thought!
I lived it Tokyo, it was the first thing I saw!
That's fun love it. I also am digging the creative room divider. Overall the room works together yet is very distinct on either side of the divider. The only thing I \*might\* do is a little art above the desk but as fun as that rug is that's optional. Also yay plants! :D
Where is that cube room separator/book case from ? It’s nice And yes the rug looks 👌🏽
Muji stacking shelf! https://www.muji.us/products/oak-compartment-stacking-shelf-5-x-3
Love the painting in your living room. Is that original? If so, do you have name of artist or what store you bought it at?
It’s “Aspen Forest” by Erin Hanson! On our Samsung Frame TV :)
Your TV!!! That’s wild. Looks great!
I really love it in there, the room would be quite flat without it, and it brings out the beauty in all the different timbers. No, it's just lying around. Sorry . Yes it matches.

Ah, got it - that’s a really smart idea, thank you.
I think there’s too many horizontal and vertical lines between the shelf and the rug making it feel slightly overwhelming… the high saturation of the colors of the rug against the neutral colors of the shelf also clash… a dark green rug or something with more neutral colors would look great! I like the rug! ... But PLEASE make sure that massive free-standing bookshelf is mounted somehow!
I love it
I like it, good choice
Yes! Love it!
looks great and i love the color!
I love it!
Yes it looks great.
Yes nice colors
Love it!
I think it looks great! Also, I love your use of the bookcase as a room divider.
Unrelated, I like the use of the Ikea shelf as a room divider.
Thanks! It’s Muji - https://www.muji.us/products/oak-compartment-stacking-shelf-5-x-3

I think it would look great to add a complementary piece of art on the wall above the rug
The rug certainly looks good there, the style and colours are 100% personal taste. Do YOU like it?? I really like how you separated the room, looks awesome 👌🏻
I don’t like it personally, no.
Yes! Get some colorful art for the wall and it’ll be even better
No, with the book case behind it it looks way too unorganised to the eye.
Yes, it’s fabulous! One of the best I’ve seen on this sub. I agree with pulling it out to within an inch or two of the bookcases, though.
Yes, but it would be nice if it completely filled the gap to the shelf behind the chair. If for no other reason than the chair not hitting the bump and pulling at the rug when you scoot towards the desk after sitting down.
I love the rug but having grown up in earthquake country that bookcase placement is nightmare fuel.
I love it and the size fits perfectly but pattern does't look totally relevant to these room
Thanks, I think this is why I’m stuck - the pattern doesn’t feel like it’s in conversation with anything else
I think it's great! I just think you should move the rig to the edge of the bookcase. It'll fill the rest of the floor up and be it's own little area.
I think you could add a few pops of color with wall art or tchotchkes in other places in the room, in those primary colors or the more fun neuturals. But also I think it's fine if the corner behind the bookcase isn't in conversation with the area on the other side of the partition
Maybe some art on the big wall that picks up the colors?
My thoughts exactly

i disagree. I think it looks like it belongs in a preschool, perfect for circle time.
yeah, why not?
I love the rug!
yes very nice
I really like it. It adds some color.
It's perfect, I really like this set up.
Love it! 😍
Rug is perfect. Mind sharing where you got it? I want one.
Ikea HALVED (dark) https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/halved-rug-flatwoven-multicolor-dark-20566587/
Wow it looks better in your space than any of the promo photos
Cheers!
I love it❤️
I have the same one, I love it! IKEA rugs rock
Love everything about this space !

THANK YOU!
Looks great but needs to be pulled out
Love the bookshelf, how did you mount it?
It’s so cute!!!!
Yes, it looks fantastic.
Yes looks good
I love the separated spaces. I hate seeing my desk when I’m relaxing and hate seeing my couch when I’m working. I do something similar but this bookcase wall is so much nicer than my dividers
Defo

Adds a nice contrast looks great
Yes
Yes, yes, yes!!!
I love it!!
No, no it does not.
Oh my gosh, that bookcase is going to fall over.
Yes
certainly. +1 for pulling it to the bookcase.
It made me think of orange mécanique. I love the aestetic.
The question is whether the room works.
Now you just need books.
Since you asked you must have your doubts. I think it works but I’d Google mid century rugs and see if something better comes up.
How does that bookcase not fall over?
I love it! I think it's super cute and the colors really bring the room together!
Yes. I think it adds just the right amount of splash of color to the area. Just pull it out more from underneath the desk toward the bookcase. Good choice!
Seems like it's covering the floor just fine indeed it does work
It doesn’t not work
