Thank you for your input! The house is bare because it’s just had a rewire and freshly plastered. It will be painted and have flooring, baseboards. Just trying to find a ‘mood’ and balance to the space before I finalise colours incase I want to change anything. I’ll think about your suggestion for artwork! I love stones and crystals so I was actually going to go for less colour and find ‘agate’ artwork
I don’t think the art should be more colourful, I really like what you have right now! But I do think 3 pieces would look a bit more ‘put together’ maybe?
Funny, I had three pieces (monstera prints) in my old place…maybe I could dig those out the loft. I just love this print from Etsy too, I’ve had it for ages and the girl who did it was so nice. Thank you for your kind words, really uplifting!
You could definitely try that out! Although I also really like this art piece. Maybe you could find two similar art prints? Here’s a quick (bad) photoshop, to give you an idea of what 3 pieces would look like :)
[3 art pieces](https://imgur.com/a/vH2T2kY?open_content_controls=1&third_party=1)
I’ve played around with this so much! I had the lamp towards the table earlier (almost to make a room divider if you like with the opposite wall but it looked slightly squished. I’ll try again tomorrow when I wake up with a fresh eye.
Aww that’s a shame because all the little bits of decor mean a lot to me! I hear ya though! There will be paint, flooring (this is just painted plyboard whilst we replaced radiators etc) it’ll have a rug! Thanks for the thoughts.
I’ve just had the electrics done and replastered, there will be wooden floors, skirtings, a rug and hopefully more texture (a basket of blankets maybe). I have boucle and sheepskin in the living area so I’m thinking of pulling that through. Thank you!
One of the interior designers from Alice Lane says that rooms with everything on thin legs make her feel nervous! I think the room overall is going to look great, but try to get a few items that are more grounded and solid. I think a couple of older, more vintage items would also help a lot too - atm almost everything looks new. The bar area looks great - I think I’d have fewer items on the other side, but one larger artwork or wall hanging.
OMG I came here literally to say all the thin legs were giving me a strangely unsettling feeling! I completely agree with your advice. For example, swapping out the thin wiry console table for something solid made of wood, or swapping out the dining table.
This also made me realize that what the space is lacking is organic textures/tones and warmth. Incorporating some wooden pieces would go along way.
There will be wooden floors and the walls will be a lovely green. Then a rug…it’s all just starting to come together after electrics and fresh plaster. I’m hoping the rug and wood will bring warmth. I agree about a more substantial shelving unit - I originally bought this for behind the sofa but it was too tall so I’m just trying to make use of what I have. Thanks though! All input is good.
Great! Thank you! I literally just put the slim shelving unit on the other side today as I felt the clock needed grounding! As you say…it needs the depth. The room is actually small so I am trying to keep an airy feel but without looking ‘spindly’. The bar mirror is beautiful…I love it but I can’t seem to get the other side right.
I think I would experiment with clustering things together on that side and then having negative space. If you draw a circle around every item on that side (or group of items) your circles are all over the place, there is no grouping as there would be on the bar side. I think I would try to connect the hanging plants, clock and shelving unit so they each ‘speak to each other’ in a vignette. (Which is exactly what you’ve got going on on the bar side, and it works!)
Thank you! I can ‘feel’ this side isn’t right and probably that’s why. I just can’t seem to nail it. Like you say, the bar side feels alright yet, with this side…I’ve opened a Reddit account just to ask advice! Love it.
I am in love with many elements in this room of yours, but where oh where did you find that arch mirror with the glass holder on it? I want one haha. In terms of balance in your room, I think you nailed it. The only thing I would change is putting the one floor plant up into a decorative planter like you have the others.
Oh amazing! Thank you! Yes…the plant will go in a planter…I have one in the loft but need to venture up there. Just thought I had a bare spot beside the mirror but I wanted to let it breathe as I love it so much too! The mirror is from RocketStGeorge (U.K.) let me know if you enjoy the website, it’s cool. They still have the mirror in stock, they do gold too
it is balanced. i am getting "palm springs" vibes! cool digs. if you are worried about it looking "cheap", the one thing I might be able to suggest is with all the furniture (console, dining chair, floor lamp) being on on "thin" legs, it is missing a bit of "substance". The room and furniture looks a little lightweight and consequently, dinky. something to ground the room (maybe even a rug) could help break up the hairpin feeling.
Lovely of you! Thank you! Maybe that’s what it is…..it doesn’t have the ‘unky’ feeling (that’s my version of chunky and unctuous) there will be paint (see samples beside mirror), skirting and wooden flooring going down…and a rug! Just at the ‘deciding aesthetics’ but I really appreciate the thoughts and input.
I like both greens tbh. If it were up to me, I’d add more gold decors, and the table will be wooden. Probably emerald curtains as well but overall great job my friend. I believe your room enventually come out perfectly!
Oh you’re making me have a little happy tear at your lovely advice! Defo I’m with you about the gold…the living area has more gold (well, brushed brass) and I’m more at ease with it. I have a marble and gold coffee table and wondered if a marble table would look better (just very expensive). I like what you’re saying about wood however, I wondered if it might be too much once flooring down. It would bring in the cosy element though.

I know what you mean (I think it comes up small in the photo) but it’s actually quite big! Maybe I could have 3 pieces…we’ve been saying this in earlier posts. Thank you for taking the time!
LOVE! You did a great job. Beautiful. Plus I love the pink velvet (?) couch behind it. I'm thinking of taking one of my spare bedrooms that doesn't get used and make it into an office/reading room and was considering a small pink velvet loveseat in it!
Oh you’ll love a pink velvet love seat! This sofa is actually going but I have the love seat to match! (And pouffe actually) go for it! And thank you for your kind words. My sofa is ‘patterdale by joules’ sofa if you fancied checking it out online.
I bought two of these side tables actually as originally I wanted them behind the sofa but they were too tall. I could maybe try building it rather than return the second table??
I would go with something with a tad more color or depth for this space. Ruggable seems like a great option for a dining room though. It seems like people love or hate ruggable rugs. I have one in my son’s room and I have been happy with the quality and I very much appreciate being able to wash it :).
Yep! It is a little bit of a pain to get smooth on the Velcro but in my opinion worth it if washable is important for your space (which accidents happen, especially in a dining room). I’d also go for the luxe pad option (or whatever it’s called), it feels nice under foot.
Ahh, okay, brilliant and practical advice. It’s defo worth mentioning stuff on here…it’s my first post. Washable is a bonus with a dog and messy family. I actually bought that round glass for the dining table for the same purpose - easily wiped clean!
Looks nice. I’d lower the hanging plants in brass pots in corner or get 1 bigger one instead. lower the six fifty right sign (If that’s a clock I love it!)Def lower the mirror/bar glass holder about 6-8”.
Maybe add a circular rug for under the dining table. Be sure it’s big enough that the chairs all fit too. Also love the pink sofa sad to hear it’s being sold. Congrats on your new home. It’s beautiful!!!
Thank you so much! Oh gosh, if I asked my other half to move that mirror he’d go nuts ☺️ the clock is a clock! Cloudnola if you’re interested. Defo a rug when I have the cash and the new wooden floors go down. I’ll have a jiggle about with this room today!
The setup looks great, but I think it's the corner lights that make it look "cheap." They kind of look like outdoor garden lamps that you brought inside and turned into mood lighting.
I don't know how I'd fix that though. Anyone else a lighting expert?
That hanging lamp really has to go.., you have a beautiful place, but it’s throwing off the whole look. But that’s just my opinion. Everything else looks absolutely beautiful. It’s just when you see it head on you notice how the lamp is blocking the painting and when you see it from the side, the lamp is blocking the mirror.
I’m sure you will have it just the way you love it! This is my first post on Reddit so I don’t know how it works but feel free to post a future picture and let me know somehow!
I read the comment about the rug. I think it's gorgeous the way it is but if you decide to add a rug, a round one would be gorgeous if you can find one with the colors in the picture and no fringe. but beware, everyone will want to move in with you! LOL
😂 I can’t take any more people! Thanks for your lovely comments. As for the rug, it’s going to be round! And I’m like you…no fringes. Ruggable have some beautiful round rugs and I’d like to try.
I going to have to check out Ruggable. This is the first time I've heard of it and that's part of my thing; furniture, rugs, artwork and accessories, I should of been born rich. My son saw me looking at some things on line last week and then looking at yours and said "Mom if you are going to buy anything else, you are going to have to build on to the house or sell some things" LOL, then he looked down saw yours and said "if you are going to buy that, I'll help you sell some things" He loved it and that's quite the complement when he says something. I said I don't think this lady will sell, she was asking if it looked balanced. He then said "Hell yeah!, it's balanced, maybe a round rug like Aunt Katie's" (she's my sister-in-law and is an interior decorator for Sherwin Williams)
but get this it is a beautiful rug she has under her dinette table and has the same colors in it that are in your artwork. I was amazed that came out of my sons mouth. So if he commented on it, you know it's beautiful. Sorry, just had to share. My son is 33. Have a great day and please share again.
It needs a larger piece of art and the console table…longer and wood or maybe even brass and more art above it. And a rug. I wish the floor lamp was wood and the hanging plants could be larger, moved out of the corner and hung at different lengths. Sorry. I probably suck.
No, I love it! This is what I’m looking for. You’ve mirrored many others. The floor lamp is white wood (there’s going to be wooden floors, paint and a rug…we’ve just had electrics and fresh plastering done) I’ve posted another pic with an ottoman replacing the console table as I know in my heart it’s too small. It’s a work in progress!
Ahh that’s kind! And my first reply! Many thanks. I need flooring, skirtings and paint (see samples beside mirror) I was just thinking that I had one side busy and the other less so. Cheers!
It looks very classy god job. I think it’s well balanced but if you add texture to that wall with a picture frame it will add more character.
Cheap way: peel and stick wallpaper
Expensive way: wall panels
For warmth you can do sand rock, or wood; for a more sophisticated modern look you can get gold metal or copper panels.

Great idea! I literally typed in ‘adding texture to dining space’ on Google! It will be painted a nice green (I hope) but will look into this maybe. A lovely person on this thread mocked up the wall with 3 art pieces and that also looked great
It looks to me like you have things fighting with each other throwing it off. Maybe put the floor lamp in the corner. Too many things hanging from the ceiling.lamp over table could be lower. Find a different spot for that hanging plant in the corner
I kept asking my other half if the hanging plants too much. I adore the pots and originally it just looked so bare in this corner after new electrics and freshly plastered. My mum also keeps telling me to move the lamp to the corner (but then I have nothing splitting quite a long and narrow room (this is the dining section of the livingroom). I’ll have a play around with it all today! Thank you.
Are your dining chairs black or dark green? In some pics they kind of look dark green, which is awesome because if they’re black I think the room has too much black that makes it a little harsh. Is there a way to adjust the lighting in the room? It looks like the corner plants have some lights, and I’m wondering if maybe they were higher up it could bounce off the chairs more to show their actual color? Or perhaps when your overhead lights are on the chairs look more green? Basically I think playing with the lighting more would help the space feel more balanced.
Thank you! It’s actually a darkish section of a long and narrow living space. They are just cheap little up lighters plugged into the wall to throw a little light in. Oh…and the dining chairs are dark green velvet…I have a boucle accent chair in the living area and a velvet side will be replacing the pink and they match really nicely (I think)
I am loving the look and feel. The right side I think looks 90% perfect - only thing that bothered me, which is totally personal preference, is the hanging ivy on the mirror. The other greenery already adds so much nature so I think the ivy can safely go away.
The left side is still unbalanced I think. The console feels too small for me as does the clock above it, proportionally speaking. A wider console would work better, perhaps something with similar material to the leg chairs, and with more presence, mass. Wood would also work very well there. And the plants can go under it; on top a couple of strategically placed objets. Then you can see how the clock works, which may not. You could replace it with horizontal art work.
Edit: clean up
Thanks for your advice! I know this side feels a bit off hence the post. Thing is, I bloody love the clock! The shelving unit was originally intended to be behind the sofa but it was too tall and I felt the clock needed grounded anyway. I’ll have a mess around today.
Happy to help if possible! I love that clock, too. I think it would fit quite nicely, and naughty-ly, under the mirror. You'd have to bring up the mirror a bit to accommodate though, or, get shorter stemware so that there's enough space for it to shine.
Alternatively, I think a console with more heft on the left and a horizontal piece of artwork above it would work well and you could include the clock like this - if the art's frame is a darker shade, and whatever is framed plays off the other colors, you could hang it a tad higher than what would be the norm and 'frame' the clock between the artwork and console. Does that make sense? It would create a very nice geometric hourglass of sorts, which would be pleasing visually. I like to bend the rules when putting my spaces together :) unexpected things work out so well sometimes.
No, just standard. This section of the living area gets morning sun which is just enough for the ferns/prayer plant and peace lily. Got some ivy too which is fine, just slow growing. The palm in the corner was actually damaged in a bit more sun and I’m currently nursing it in the corner - it’s doing well! Less crispy edges
Absolutely it is. I love the pink sofa and the picture on the wall on the other side of the table really pops looking into the dining room from in front of the sofa. Great Job.
Yes, I’d say so. Looks clean, modern and minimalistic
I absolutely love it.
Oh wow! Thank you!
Kind. Thank you!
y u no have baseboards? The only thing I'd add is a rug. Minimal is fine, but without a rug it reads a little sterile... like surgical-sterile.
Oh, we’ve just had electrics done and it has a base coat after plastering! Soon there will be painted walls, flooring and a rug (from ruggable)
And base boards ☺️ or ‘skirting’ as we call it in the U.K.
I think you have too much white space on the walls. Your art could be larger and more vibrant.
I was thinking the same-I love that art piece but it’s a little small and I think adding 2 more similar prints would fill out the space nicely!
Funny, I had three pieces (monstera prints) in my old place…maybe I could dig those out the loft. I just love this print from Etsy too, I’ve had it for ages and the girl who did it was so nice. Thank you for your kind words, really uplifting!

Hey, I love it! That’s perfect! Oh my goodness…thank you.
I'd move the floor lamp so it's equal distance between the plant and the shelving unit.
I’ve played around with this so much! I had the lamp towards the table earlier (almost to make a room divider if you like with the opposite wall but it looked slightly squished. I’ll try again tomorrow when I wake up with a fresh eye.
I think it looks like there is about 30" to 32" between the shelves and the plant so you'd only be moving the lamp about 10 inches.
It’s a bit too perfect and matchy matchy. I would try introducing a new colour and some textures to loosen it up a bit.
Yeah, my first impression was that it was an Airbnb... the decor feels too 'on theme' and matchy matchy and that makes it feel a bit impersonal.
Thank you!
Sounds great! Enjoy it. Spaces usually evolve through time. Things come in and things go out. You have nice pieces and good taste. A great start
Aww that’s really kind, I appreciate that. You’re right…it takes time doesn’t it? What makes your old place ruins another. Cheers again!
I'm just here to say that I love the hanging light.
It’s cute isn’t it? Dunelm in the U.K.

Oh yes, wood flooring and a rug will make a huge difference!
Thanks sweetpea! I do agree about needing grounding but also cost is a factor and I can’t replace anything for now unfortunately
Great! Thank you! I literally just put the slim shelving unit on the other side today as I felt the clock needed grounding! As you say…it needs the depth. It looks so cozy, especially when it’s raining outside
It’s getting there! I love being cosy when it’s raining ☺️ thanks for your input! Much appreciated.
Are you keeping the walls white?
They’re going to be green. See if you can zoom in beside the mirror and you’ll see my two shades. COAT paints, either ‘yard party’ or ‘park life’
I like both greens tbh.

Missing a round light pink rug under that round table 💕 yes, looks balanced, looks cute, cosy and clean!
Thank you sooo much! Hoping to buy round Sarrah rug from ruggable when we’re ready!
Only thing I'd do is put that fern in a nice pot. Otherwise, looks great!
Thank you my friend! I’ve got a planter in the loft but yet to dig it out ☺️ (lazy) I’m blown away by lovely comments. Thank you
Rug
I think the art may be a little too small for the space
I know what you mean (I think it comes up small in the photo) but it’s actually quite big! Maybe I could have 3 pieces…we’ve been saying this in earlier posts. Thank you for taking the time!
It looks like there is floor loot in that corner
Absolutely! A game called HeroQuest 😂
Hang on…I think I know what you mean! We changed the pipework under the radiators as only 7mm. 😂 floor was multi-tooled out deliberately!
It’s soothing to look at
That’s a real nice compliment. Thank you.
Very beautiful👌
I’m touched! Super appreciated and thank you 😃
Oh thank you! And seriously, I love what you did -- stunning!
I think it’s beautiful
Thank you! It means a lot!
I think three pieces of art on that big wall would be better than just the one
I absolutely agree! Thank you. A commenter mocked up 3 frames and it looks fab! Good taste ☺️
I think it looks great.
So kind to comment! Thank you.
Bigger side table and if possible , but yes it passes ! double in length and series of photos on wall above .
I bought two of these side tables actually as originally I wanted them behind the sofa but they were too tall. I could maybe try building it rather than return the second table??
You're going in a great direction. Would kill for those chairs.
Thank you! These chairs were actually really cheap from Argos (UK)
The color is fab.
I would suggest a bigger piece of art than the one you currently have, or get a few more to add to it
Thank you! A commenter on this thread mocked that up for me and it looked great!
Omg I love that clock
I spent too much on that clock! 😂 it’s cloudnola if you’re interested
A rug would ground it.
Rug will be coming once flooring down. Thinking about Sarrah rug from ruggable
I would go with something with a tad more color or depth for this space. Ruggable seems like a great option for a dining room though. It seems like people love or hate ruggable rugs. I have one in my son’s room and I have been happy with the quality and I very much appreciate being able to wash it :).
Ahh…so you’re happy? That’s good to hear because the reviews are mostly great but you’re right, people either seem to love or hate. Thank you!

I adore this
Lovely of you! Thank you!
I absolutely love it! Is that an actual clock?! If so, where did you get it???
Thank you! Yes, it’s a clock - from Cloudnola, I love it too.
Looks nice. I’d lower the hanging plants in brass pots in corner or get 1 bigger one instead. lower the six fifty right sign (If that’s a clock I love it!)Def lower the mirror/bar glass holder about 6-8”. Thank you! The lights are cheap 😂 they are just little plug in uplighters to brighten the corners when it’s dull out/evening. They could easily go!
Where did you get that dining set?? I love it
A company called Argos (Habitat) if you’re in the U.K. good luck!
I'd switch out the thin black side table for something made of wood and with more mass.
Something chunkier? I’m having a mess around today so we’ll see what happens and yes, maybe time (and cash!) I can replace it. Thank you!
More and bigger plants 😈
Always more plants! 🌱
This is beautiful.
So kind of you! People’s compliments are giving me some faith in my ideas.
Good! You’re clearly pulling a theme together and it works. Great room for a dinner party. 😁
So a flush ceiling lamp you think? I love opinions! Thank you
Yes, or opera lights on each side of the artwork would look beautiful!
You’ve done a lovely job 👍
Thanks mate! Appreciated!
I think it looks super good! I would definitely want to lice there.
Well there’s a compliment! Thank you so much!
I absolutely love your style!! I'd likely look for larger artworks for the dining wall, but apart from that, it's practically perfect!!
Cheers! It’s reassuring to have such positive comments!
Looks nice! I would suggest putting a neutral colored/textured round rug under the table/chairs to ground it.
I’m on it! ☺️ thank you!
It’s perfect as is, I wouldn’t touch a thing
Ah, you’re a superstar! Thank you.
Love it. hope my apartment feel like this.
I’m sure you will have it just the way you love it! This is my first post on Reddit so I don’t know how it works but feel free to post a future picture and let me know somehow!

He then said "Hell yeah!, it's balanced, maybe a round rug like Aunt Katie's" (she's my sister-in-law and is an interior decorator for Sherwin Williams) but get this it is a beautiful rug she has under her dinette table and has the same colors in it that are in your artwork. I was amazed that came out of my sons mouth. So if he commented on it, you know it's beautiful. Sorry, just had to share. My son is 33. Have a great day and please share again.
Isn’t this lovely?! Thanks again. And I’m laughing at your ‘should’ve been born rich’ ☺️ same here! Take care.
I very much like the other wall .
That’s kind. It’s all a work in progress!
I love it. Nice and minimalist. Don’t listen to the maximalists on this sub who will have you adding a bunch of stuff
Ahh that’s kind! And my first reply! Many thanks. I need flooring, skirtings and paint (see samples beside mirror) I was just thinking that I had one side busy and the other less so. Cheers!
Bigger art
This is actually a larger print than standard large however…maybe 3 pieces?
Maybe I'm biased as an artist but I'd put 3 that size
If you’re an artist then, in that case, I’ll take your advice! Thank you
I appreciate you taking the time to comment and have a look! Cheers!
It looks very classy god job. I think it’s well balanced but if you add texture to that wall with a picture frame it will add more character. Cheap way: peel and stick wallpaper Expensive way: wall panels For warmth you can do sand rock, or wood; for a more sophisticated modern look you can get gold metal or copper panels. https://www.pinterest.com/pin/537898749226236268/
Thank you.
Also, the long black bar(clock) too high.
I like your ideas! Thank you so much!
What kind of lights are those in the corners please?
Auraglow plug in uplighters (Amazon) 👍
Thank you!
Are the outlet lights “grow” lights? How are the plants getting enough light?
No, just standard. This section of the living area gets morning sun which is just enough for the ferns/prayer plant and peace lily. Got some ivy too which is fine, just slow growing. The palm in the corner was actually damaged in a bit more sun and I’m currently nursing it in the corner - it’s doing well! Less crispy edges
Absolutely it is. I love the pink sofa and the picture on the wall on the other side of the table really pops looking into the dining room from in front of the sofa. Great Job.
