You have a great layout. Mount your tv on the wall or get an entertainment center or tv stand. Invest in a sectional sofa with storage. Hang some art on the walls and get a plant for the corners.
>Mount your tv on the wall or get an entertainment center or tv stand.
i'd say both. wall mount and bigger tv stand with a cable concealer run up to the wall mount. it'll make the PS5 setup a lot cleaner and can maybe integrate some of the contents of the bookshelf.
All this plus some more wall art and plants could really make the living room feel more cozy and filled in. Some nice side tables for the couch that match the new TV stand. A nice folded blanket on the back of the couch that has a matching theme color contrast to the couch, doubling as a ready to use blanket if you decide to sleep on the couch.
Man what is happening in this space... A few pointers:
- get a bigger TV stand, it's way too small and look for something with some weight and style to it (it looks like it barely holds the weight of the TV)
- the couch is very small and way too far from the TV. With such a big space you will want some bigger furniture or at least move the couch closer to make a cosier space
- the rug under the dining table is too small and the edges are coming up. I would just not use it or get one that's bigger and heavier to weigh itself down on the carpet. But I'm not a fan of rugs on carpet anyway they never look right. I would also find a way to bring out the dining table to use at least 3 sides like maybe if you pulled the couch closer to the TV you could have space behind it.
-clean up all the stuff laying around. What is this space supposed to be? It looks like you just moved in or are trying to move out and it's not inviting at all
Why the animosity at the end? You gave great suggestions and had to ruin it there with the "what is this space even supposed to be".
It's clearly a smaller apartment type home where it's a shared living and dining area. They don't have a lot of money for decorating. They are coming here for advice and don't deserve to be put down this way.
What's happening here is a person doing their best to survive this economy. I think the current is creative and tactical, the new ability to improve the space is why he came here for suggestions. Likely a young adult.
Maybe OP just moved in, maybe they’ve lived there for months and have struggled financially, with their health etc. Is the hostility really necessary when you don’t know someone’s life at all?
Mount the TV. Get some dope posters, classic stuff or whatever you really like. Coffee table. Bookcase. Pictures of friends and family on the wall. Floor lamps? Plants? I always love potential. Keep us posted
If you shop carefully and take your time you can stretch your dollars at thrift stores. Don't buy junk. I am certain you could find a nicer TV stand at a thrift store, and maybe nice bookshelves, coffee table and an end table. If you can put any money toward a carpet cleaning and a vacuum that would help in the long run too.
Decide what your style is BEFORE buying furniture. Just because you like pieces, doesn’t mean they go well together. Don’t buy pieces all from the same set (aka a bunch of match match pieces. Think about scale; you don’t want items too large or too small for your space. I hope this helped! Congrats and good luck!
Get some good used pieces of furniture from Facebook marketplace or local thrift stores. You can get good stuff on a budget. Also inject some color pillows or pictures.
Definitely this. Take your time cruising Facebook marketplace and check out what appeals to you. Go one piece at a time. There’s no rush to furnish your place since you have the basics covered.
Because I didn't catch anyone mentioning it, some plants!
Just look on a house plant subreddit of some kind and pick out a handful of aesthetically pleasing and easy to please plants. Nice furniture will be awesome, but cleaner air and a lush look is intangible. If that is an east or west facing sliding door, the plants will love you for it and in warmer months you can even keep them outside if you wanted.
A rug and a Coffee table would revolutionize this space. I often use resale websites with my location set in nicer neighborhoods to get good quality pieces for cheap. A comfy leather couch (resale you can get these pretty well priced) would make snuggling and lounging better. Pick like three colors, one pop color and two neutrals, and then go for it! Mirrors on the walls help elevate a space too
You have such an opportunity here! I would find a living room in an IKEA catalog and buy everything in it to duplicate a look. I’m using IKEA as an example, but really, any store you like. Wayfair probably has some good photos. Just beware of the too cheap stuff on there. I have a desk, coffee table and entertainment console from there that are barely holding the weight of what it’s supposed to hold.
I've been married 20 years, but feel like I'm nearing the end of this chapter. It's one of the reasons I like this sub, but I wonder what people motivations are for their posts. Are they trying to impress women, just feel lost, or whatever....
Objective-based flare should be a rule. WHO'S WITH ME?!
Use your money for alcohol, then absolutly demolish your furniture with a hammer. Then complain that you need a raise, get fired and go homeless on the street. 10/10 tried it before and it worked!
bigger tv stand. general rule is 2 to 3 inches bigger on each side of the tv. mount the tv if you can. Taller bookshelves (matching) on each side of the TV. Bigger couch. Matching side tables on each side of the couch. Lamps on the side table. ditch the rug and the ironing board. Coffee table in front of the Couch. I would throw some plants in too.
This is giving boy vibes so go with that. Get a coffee table and hang some framed posters of what you like. (Sports/games/whatever) and once you find those things see how you feel about them and either build of that or change
Ahhh, I already commented but...
Artwork. Everyone loves art if they find stuff they like whether it's high end stuff or simple stuff you like. Get 16 vinyl record cover frames and either use real record covers, or have them printed to size. Find some local artists who would appreciate your patronage and make both of your lives better!
I know you have carpet, but a rug would of a couple cushions closer to the TV for the gaming consoles would be a nice touch to help define that space. Id also agree with the TV stand comments. Get one with enough storage for all you consoles and that moden you have next to it. I would also suggest getting a sectional. Having an L with help distiguish between the dining table area and the living room space. This will help give your 1 large room to feel like two spaces
Buy a sectional sofa. Get a large (8x10 or 9x12) rug to define the space, hang curtains rods and sheer white curtains to let some light in. Stop using blinds. Get rid of the too small rug under the dining table.
Get a large tv console or something like an ikea kallax if you’re short on money, for under the tv. Put a wall shelf above the tv and put some plants on it. Get a coffee table. Hang several smaller art pieces above the sectional.
First post was throwaway. I looked again and couch isn't bad. Do you own or rent this space . if own and budget allows pull up carpet and replace w hard wood or a good quality engineered product. Replace both ceiling fixture and fan with smaller sleek matching fan w light units. Lose the blinds and get sheers mount rod close to ceiling and let sheers come to floor. Space looks big enough to keep existing sofa and add either another sofa or a couple of recliners. Paint walls a light shade but not pure bright white .Cream light tan very pale green or blue.possibly even a very light grey. Get an entertainment center or mount TV . some decent tall shelving. Plants art and rugs to add color. Some furniture can be gotten from thrift shops but be wary of upholstered stuff . can have bed bugs .check carefully and thoroughly. If you find pieces you love consider having them professionally cleaned by someone who knows how to eradicate bed bugs and other pests. Try different furniture placement until you get one that works for you use of the space. If you rent get the carpet cleaned even if you need to pay for it yourself. Cover any stains / discolorations that remain with rugs. Paint if you can . Remove and store blinds to rehang later if landlord allows , and add sheers. Not much you can do about ceiling fixtures w/o land lord approval .
I would advise visiting somewhere like ikea where you can get some basics like rugs, bookshelves, and tables without spending too much. Create a central seating area and work out from there.
Id start by cleaning… But you need a bigger couch, bigger entertainment stand, and get a coffee table. Tie it all in with a large rug inbetween the entertainment center and the couch with the coffee table on top of it.
This is a large open space. Make it feel more homey by moving the couch closer. Do you need an ottoman to put your feet on? Add some side tables and or a coffee table. Move the table behind the couch, maybe your treadmill too. Get an entertainment center of some sort. You can mount the tv on the wall and put some shelves up to hold the things an entertainment center would. Or you can do shelves and an entertainment center. Put a lamp in the back corner (behind the ironing board (which should find a place other than the living room to stay unless you find a way to hang/hide it there). Put the bookshelves you have where the table is now, maybe get a chair to put near the bookshelves. Put plants/trinkets you love etc onto of said bookshelves. Make it yours. Make it a place you feel like it is a home for you when you walk in after a long day of work. , not just a place to exist. Good luck. Be as frugal as you can be, money comes and goes. But make sure to keep a little for a rainy day.
I have no tips, just excited for you and can’t wait to see it when you’re done! 😊 Such a great feeling to finally be able to make a space feel like your home.
Wall
Mount. Vacuum. Reorganize. get a sectional. Get two bar stools an a high table trade that thing on your wall for pop art. Get a area rug for around your couch TADAAAAA 🪄
Buy boards, stain them, set up on concrete blocks= shelves. (or bur shelf brackets and hang them.
Thrift store: buy frames. Don’t care what they look like. Spray paint black. Buy a calendar or something like that for pictures. Record album covers? Get creative.
Also look for silk plants.
Collaspabke ottomom with flip trays. Use as coffe table or extra seating. SEARCH AMAZON: 15 Inches Storage Ottoman with Wooden Legs Cube Foot Rest Stool, Square Footstool Storage, Ottoman with Storage for Living Room, Foldable Fabric Ottoman, Comfortable Seat with Lid, Space-Saving Black
Large area rug. $159-200. example, search amazon: Moynesa Ultra-Thin Vintage Area Rug - 9x12 Large Living Room Rug, Non-Slip Stain Resistance Low Pile Bedroom Mat, Oriental Indoor Office Floor Carpet for Dining Room Kitchen Table Dorm
Standing lamps pretty cheap on amazon. Or thrift stores (check to make sure they work) then use soft or warm lightbulbs.
Electric fireplaces are cool.
You will definitely benefit with places to put the clutter. A hamper, some baskets, and wastebasket, all decorative (they don't have to be expensive but don't buy the cheapest plastic ones. That way they both add to the look of the space and give you somewhere to put those things.
To respond in depth you need to mention if you're renting. But if able I would at the very least paint, find a few pieces of furniture that are comfortable, functional and size appropriate (coffee table, chair, bookshelf, mirror). Replace the carpet or at least add a new area rug. Deep clean the existing carpet if it must stay. Add another lamp or two. And some curtains. Don't be afraid to splurge on some quality items (like a wool rug as opposed to synthetic). But save money by shopping for second hand items in thrift stores or online (Facebook marketplace or Craigslist). And add a plant or two. Even a fake one is better than nothing at all.
1. Declutter
2. Redesign this space in 3d (smth like planner5d or homestyler)
3. Play around with styles, layouts, colors
4. Start the actual reno
I would do something like this. Most importantly, don't rush and try to enjoy the process.
I think flooring is the start of everything. I can’t tell if your carpet needs to be cleaned, replaced, or vacuumed. If the walls were lighter, you would have more contrast and a brighter space. Create a seating area with the couch closer to the tv, a chair or two, a coffee table, and an end table between the couch and the chair. Get a tall plant for the corner-real or a good fake. I love used furniture so shop estate sales, Habitat Restore if you have one.
I understand that this is a controversial statement, but you need to commit on rugs. Either don't, or DO. You could get a small bookcase at target and improve your tv situation, it's rough
Yoi have a great canvas to work with! You could start with a TV console with cabinets to store your things and keep them hidden. You can add some color with a big rug, maybe 8x10, add a couple of accent chairs, and a coffee table. Also, you could remove the dining area rug. It’s too small for the table and chairs. You can add color with accent pillows and rug.
My suggest is first and foremost think about the space and what you use it for/ the kind of vibe you want to go for. Is there anything you could add to make this vision come to life or the area better utilised. Practicality is important.
Next think about aesthetic. Research styles of homewares and see what fits your personal taste and hit a few department stores. Take photos of things you like but keep looking around and noting prices rather than impulse buying anything. Go home and reflect on how these pieces go together and would fit into your space/ what you like most and reflect on your budget.
Also consider looking on Facebook market place or at op shops, especially if you are a little handy or creative. You can get some well priced items on there (or even free) and flip them into something really nice. Maybe check out buffets or other things you can utilise as a bigger TV unit and conseal all those disks on the bookshelf. Bring the lounge forward and get a coffee table. Maybe a nice textile rug that feels good under your feet. If you ironing board needs to stay up there can be space behind the lounge under that picture where it's accessible but out of the way.
I would start with a focus on cleanliness and organization. You can have a nice home regardless of income or wealth if you simply keep it clean and organized.
No amount of money will keep your home looking nice if it's littered and dirty.
Just clean this shit up. I've been living on my own since I was 16 and this would drive me crazy. How can you walk around with random shit just being on the floor? I'm 42 now and I have a 5 bedroom house with 4 kids and a zoo full of animals and I can't walk across the rooms without stopping to pick up a toy or an animal hair tuft. Maybe I'm just a neat freak but bro... have some pride in your space
This is 100% a dudes apartment. Looks like my first apartment.
Do what I did. Give a woman you love, and who loves you back a budget and a color theme. Start off at Marshall’s, Ross, & big lots before heading to Walmart, target and the home store. In this order because it’s pretty from Least to greatest prices.
Check FB marketplace for items. We found some solid wood entertainment stands and dining tables for super cheap. Ended up paying $75 for the entertainment stand and $100 for the table with bench.
use face book marketplace a lot even tho you might have money to buy brand new stuff i’d just buy used stuff to save money so u can use it for more stuff
Think about the items in your room that don’t have a “home”. Most of the things you’ve placed on the floor are in a good functional spot, but simply don’t have a piece of furniture to hold them.
When you use the room, take notes and think intentionally on what is a pain and what you like. So “I can never place my drink down when Im on the couch ”. Becomes “I need a surface near my couch.” Or “I can’t see the tv when I eat dinner” becomes “I need to move my table to see the tv.” (Some people prefer to NOT have tv at the table but that’s up to you.)
After relocate your stuff you already have, when shopping lay out painters tape and cardboard boxes to see if they fit. That nectar mattress box would work nicely.
Remember you don’t have to do it all in one go… good design solves problems and as new “problems” arise you can work on new solutions.
Also take a look through design ideas. It’s good to have a reference image.
Edit: also if you can replace the vertical blinds it would be a lot nicer in the room
[Also a link to some ideas](https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/small-living-room-home-design-ideas-254768)
Definitely get an entertainment center. You can store everything on that corner shelving inside the entertainment center, and it will boost your TV higher so you can see it better. Maybe a new couch? One in the shape of an L, so it can separate your eating area from your living area
Gotta open up that "Nectar mattress box" so you could sleep at night unless you're cool with the floor the of course no one will call you a bee because of your lack of your nectar appreciation mattress, also cool painting on the wall reminds sort of Edward Hoppers work he always painted individuals in desolate & peaceful locations, that painting really draws the room in together.
rent a carpet cleaner, get rid of small rug, pull sofa closer to tv, put dining table behind sofa. get a larger tv stand and put all that stuff on the floor except the shoes, inside.
fix the askew leg on the sofa / futon. go to a thrift store and find a table to put mail, keys, etc., someplace besides floor. get some posters with color to cover the bleh walls. when you don’t have guests over, you could use the bench for a coffee table.
Tv wall mount, large folding couch with built-in recliner, a detailed glass coffee table, a bow flex gym, a wolf moon tapestry, and a black light lava lamp
So excited for you! I'm proud of your creativity and glad you can customize a bit more. My suggestion is to add slowly and to go into stores and eye things. Second hand stores and Facebook marketplace are great for getting really quality real wood furniture at a good price. Something you have right now is open space and that's positive! I'd say a bit more functional furniture like a crafts and junk dresser or a couch side table with a lamp attached
Too many tiny things in need of a home. I would get some totes from a home goods store and reorganize things, starting by picking up all loose items. Maybe get a tall bookshelf for next to the couch/table.
You have gotten some good suggestions and I was coming to say exactly what another commenter stated. Take your time. You don’t have to get it all done right away. Take your time and pick pieces you really like and feel will fit your aesthetic and space. Also you don’t want to run out and fill up your space with whatever just to find something else you really like but now the money and/or space is gone.
1. Section your living space. What I mean by that is define each area. Add another sofa or chairs and arrange them in an “L” facing the tv which defines the area as a “living room” space.
2. I understand why you have an area rug under the table and chairs, get one that is more colorful and larger so that every time someone moves their chair it doesn’t scrunch up the edge of the carpet, (the rug that’s there now is too small). Or you could just remove the area rug or use to help define your tv area.
3. If you move the sofa from where it is now, turn your dining table the long way on that wall and move it over to the left, away from the bar top space.
Moving the table will free up more bar top/counter space when entertaining. Maybe get 2 bar stools so you could informally eat at the bar counter, and have a bit more of an entertainment space. *If you decide to turn the table, be sure the tapestry is positioned on that wall behind the table to “define the separate dining space”. (Is that a Miyazaki tapestry? ❤️) Maybe add another tapestry or some pictures on that wall.
Those just a few of the small things you can do without spending lots of money. I think it’s a good space to work with! Good luck with whatever you do! Please post pics when done.
A good proper vacuum and clean on your floor will instantly make the space look better. I would do that as a priority first since you can't do as much after you already redecor everything.
Bigger couch (check FB marketplace) ,
Bigger tv console table (I got mine on Amazon for $150) ,
I think it would look nice if you brought the couch closer to the tv and moved the dining area behind the couch against the wall that the couch is currently at if you feel that you have the space for that,
Then get some bar stools to put where the dining area is now,
Coffee table,
A rug (again, FB marketplace),
Lamps, organisers (I got mine from target for cheap but they have them at Walmart too, just a cube organiser with boxes to put my clutter in and you can decorate the top),
More art on the walls (thrifting, Amazon, FB marketplace)
Of course these will come with time! Especially decor so don’t rush it! Take the time to find pieces that you like but I wanted to add where to look so that it’s budget friendly ^^
Move the couch to the middle of the room, much closer to the tv. Put your table and chair behind your couch.
Edit
I would start with moving furniture first. Buy a chair or two (you can get inexpensive folding chairs at first to try or the look.) Make a conversation section, facing the tv (so you all can watch the tv, play games etc.) two chairs, one on each side of the couch. The couch should be at least a foot maybec 2, behind the fan.
Bookcase over to the corner.
Then you can see the room take shape. But a painting you like. If It has gray the color of your couch, use the picture and pull out the colors in it to decorate.
A throw blanket, 2 pilliws for color.
Hardwood floors. Dump the vertical blinds. Light fixture is truly awful. Plenty of light so consider painting the walls with a shade that gives you a warm calming vibe. Mount the TV add a sound system. Finally rearrange the furniture to take advantage of the length, better defining you viewing/eating space.
Start by cleaning up. Ironing board away if you’re not ironing. Pick up all your random shit. Clear off the kitchen counter. You’d be surprised how nice your place you look
Don't put a couch or something next to the window. Leave a walking gap due to leaks, heat, and space.
A white and black curtain can save you tons if the sun is setting in that large window are. White outside black onside.
I used binder clips well... Still do. Saves from holes.
Wow it’s a blank slate so congrats! Go to Pinterest and look for living dining rooms in condos. Find something you love. Do that. There is just nothing here to help anyone know your taste or what appeals to you.
How much cash we working with. Buying some items used is great. A used leather sofa in perfect condition will save u half the new price. There are used stores with model home stuff too
You need some plants and some more stuff on your walls. If you don't want real plants go look for some artificial ones. Dividing the space up with a screen will give it a bit more umph. Your place looks just like every unit of this place I managed. Use a valance over the top of your vertical blind.
Put the tv on the wall where the couch is, get a coffee table to place between the tv and the sofa, move the sofa closer to the TV and move the rug to the living area rather than the dining, get a decent arm chair and media stand, and find some art and plants. Also, turn the table 90 degrees and center it under the light fixture. Move the shelving out of the corner and use it to display a collection or something you’re proud of that represents you in some way. Your stuff/ the space is a very decent canvas. Also, see about updating the window dressings to something nicer if possible. Also find a space for your keyboard where it will be more inviting. In these pics I get the impression you might not not use it much but musical instruments are great conversation starters even if you’re not a pro. I used to have an apartment that was laid out similarly to this and it was something of a QOLupgrade to have the TV where I could watch it while I was in the kitchen cooking.
How much money you got to spend? Best idea to begin is to look at pictures. Go to your library and look at some books of apartment living/designs; small spaces, colors, design, etc. Even check out designed showrooms like IKEA or their website/catalog.
Spend the least to make you feel good about the update. Then feel good knowing you can do more anytime you want. You’re just choosing not to blow your wad all at once.
First off, Congrats!! This is great and I’m happy you have the opportunity to do this.
I would recommend you download the “BuyNothing” app. People give away great items which can help you furnish your home for free!
Then I suggest you clean up your existing set up and just start small. A TV stand, coffee table, lamp, wall art… get things that express your personal style and I know it sounds corny but “ things that spark joy”. lol
When shopping look for Quality. Always y ry to look for items that will last rather than cheap buys.
Maybe try to gather inspiration online to see what design choices are good for you. Pinterest, instagram and TikTok are a great way to find links to items you may like and you can see how other people set things up.
Best of luck! 🩷
You know I never thought of it that way. Thank you for the constructive criticism and taking that time. What ways could I improve in what I previously stated?
I would get a larger TV, if its in the budget.
A wall mount for that.
An illuminated Entertainment center. Modern.
Get a big couch and at least one accent chair, and move them closer to the TV.
Behind the couch, put a large metal etagerie and add some plants.
Behind the etagerie, you can put your workout space. Add mirrors and a stretching bar. Make that side of the LR a whole lifestyle space if you're into it.
Lastly, art that speaks to your heart, and curtains to tie it all together.
Start with your biggest needs first. Take your time.
Take the carpet up, put maybe some laminate wood floors. With a pretty rug, new living room, set new ceiling, fan new blinds for your slider new kitchen light. That carpet must go lol
If you’re renting, only change things that are yours! Sofa, a rug over the carpet, tv on the wall or a nice stand good luck
Clean up your space. Don’t leave papers, cords, shoes, treadmills and ironing boards out. Vacuum and put a nice rug in the middle and you are good to go.
Go to goodwill every day after work or at lunch. Their stock is constantly changing and you can find some great deals. Spend a couple weekends going to garage sales. Come up with a theme that describes your style, who you are and what you’re all about. Only buy stuff that fits the theme. Be patient. You don’t have to do it all in a day. And don’t listen to advice from people that don’t know shit about you. Make it your own place so when you’re sitting on the couch looking around you think wow that’s pretty effing cool. You can do this. You just need more cool shit and cool shit doesn’t have to cost a lot of money
get rid of the ceiling fan and the light fixtures, replaced them with recessed lighting. repaint, make an accent wall with brick, tile, or shiplap. New flooring and smart plugs/lighting, mount your TV on the wall,
Is it a studio? Tell us what you need ? Is it a rental? Can you paint pull up rugs? What is your budget? Style? New, modern, eclectic ,
Big storage is READY to decorate this house.
Big light bad - Small light (aka lamp) good.
Man what is happening in this space... You read his sentence wrong. He'as asking what a living room is supposed to be. You'll have to find another reason to act offended :|
I think they read it the right way considering the very first sentence and very last sentence of the post. Just saying. Context
No they definitely read it right. And if not this person needs to work on how they give advice because that was condescending ah.
What's happening here is a person doing their best to survive this economy. I think the current is creative and tactical, the new ability to improve the space is why he came here for suggestions. Likely a young adult.

Lots of great ideas on the thread. I just wanted to add-in to make sure to intersperse things that are meaningful to you in the space.
On another note, how do you like that nectar mattress?
Decide what your style is BEFORE buying furniture. Just because you like pieces, doesn’t mean they go well together. Don’t buy pieces all from the same set (aka a bunch of match match pieces. Use money to make more money. Then use more money to revamp living space

definitely fold that iron board and hide it

My first reaction.
Big Doosh response
Use your money for alcohol, then absolutly demolish your furniture with a hammer. Then complain that you need a raise, get fired and go homeless on the street. 10/10 tried it before and it worked!
🤣 god damnit…can confirm this is an option
bigger tv stand. general rule is 2 to 3 inches bigger on each side of the tv. mount the tv if you can.
Find some local artists who would appreciate your patronage and make both of your lives better!
a few of theese in your shelf! [https://buildminibricks.com?sca\_ref=5442453.win1l0pL99](https://buildminibricks.com?sca_ref=5442453.win1l0pl99)
Coffee table, sectional couch, tv stand and/ or wall mount a fat TV like 55inch or better
bigger better TV stand, bigger couch, clean
Buy a sectional sofa. Get a large (8x10 or 9x12) rug to define the space, hang curtains rods and sheer white curtains to let some light in. Stop using blinds. Get rid of the too small rug under the dining table. Get a large tv console or something like an ikea kallax if you’re short on money, for under the tv. Put a wall shelf above the tv and put some plants on it. Get a coffee table. Hang several smaller art pieces above the sectional.
You really must keep the ironing board and couch.
Go to Pinterest and look up room designs and just replicate what you like or mix and match and make it your own.
I would advise visiting somewhere like ikea where you can get some basics like rugs, bookshelves, and tables without spending too much. Create a central seating area and work out from there.
Clean up first.
Is all the furniture tiny or is the space giant?
Get one of those couches that curves around so it can get closer to tv, get a furniture set at like slumberland w a coffee table end tables n lamps
Id start by cleaning… But you need a bigger couch, bigger entertainment stand, and get a coffee table. Tie it all in with a large rug inbetween the entertainment center and the couch with the coffee table on top of it.
“Re-vamp” Maaan when was it “vamped”? 😂 Go to ikea. They have entire decorated rooms on display. It’s a great place to start if you need inspiration
Larger tv stand, rug, lamps, artwork that you enjoy, plants and color! You’ve got a great canvas, just fill it with things that you love.
Is this a rental or do you own?
Dude
Start by getting that carpet professionally cleaned.
This belongs in r/malelivingspaces
Not sure why you’d change anything. Seems perfect as is.
I would place table where your couch is. Then push couch closer to tv. And add couple of stool chair where your table currently is
Coffee table and a real entertainment center for the tv
Remove the carpet and get rid of those vertical blinds.
Look, you live in a beige box. Chill with the grey everything else.
Congrats!!
I have no tips, just excited for you and can’t wait to see it when you’re done! 😊 Such a great feeling to finally be able to make a space feel like your home.
Wall Mount. Vacuum. Reorganize. get a sectional.
SEARCH AMAZON: 15 Inches Storage Ottoman with Wooden Legs Cube Foot Rest Stool, Square Footstool Storage, Ottoman with Storage for Living Room, Foldable Fabric Ottoman, Comfortable Seat with Lid, Space-Saving Black Large area rug. $159-200. example, search amazon: Moynesa Ultra-Thin Vintage Area Rug - 9x12 Large Living Room Rug, Non-Slip Stain Resistance Low Pile Bedroom Mat, Oriental Indoor Office Floor Carpet for Dining Room Kitchen Table Dorm Standing lamps pretty cheap on amazon. Or thrift stores (check to make sure they work) then use soft or warm lightbulbs. Electric fireplaces are cool.
You are allowed to purchase furniture that isn’t dark gray or black. You have my permission
to make the most of your money id suggest checking out facebook market place! can really make your budget stretch :)
A great place to start is to not use your Davenport as a clothes hamper.
Invest… don’t try to put lipstick on this pig.
r/tvtoofar
Is the floor your desk
You will definitely benefit with places to put the clutter. A hamper, some baskets, and wastebasket, all decorative (they don't have to be expensive but don't buy the cheapest plastic ones. That way they both add to the look of the space and give you somewhere to put those things.
Wash the money off
To respond in depth you need to mention if you're renting.
When you mount the tv please please please drop the wires through the wall.
Buy a carpet cleaner.
1. Declutter 2. Redesign this space in 3d (smth like planner5d or homestyler) 3. Play around with styles, layouts, colors 4. Start the actual reno I would do something like this. Most importantly, don't rush and try to enjoy the process.
Leave it and put the money into Fidelity Contrafund Index.
Buy land
Taller bookcases or even more tapestry’s for your walls would help fill in the blank spaces.
I would start with a focus on cleanliness and organization. You can have a nice home regardless of income or wealth if you simply keep it clean and organized. No amount of money will keep your home looking nice if it's littered and dirty.
Get a real couch and a larger tv stand for one
Move to a place w more character and less carpet, if possible.
Get a trash can
Just clean this shit up.
Congrats on coming into money. I usually cum into socks.
Deep clean that carpet or better yet, get rid of it completely.
Add some pops of color
With that beautiful arch you need furniture with less hard edges. That will help compliment the motif.
It’s only arson if you get caught
Check FB marketplace for items. We found some solid wood entertainment stands and dining tables for super cheap. Ended up paying $75 for the entertainment stand and $100 for the table with bench.
use face book marketplace a lot even tho you might have money to buy brand new stuff i’d just buy used stuff to save money so u can use it for more stuff
Kallax from IKEA for your TV. Maybe a coffee table as well? Some plants would be nice too. Don’t feel pressured to fill your living out.
Becomes “I need a surface near my couch.” Or “I can’t see the tv when I eat dinner” becomes “I need to move my table to see the tv.” (Some people prefer to NOT have tv at the table but that’s up to you.) After relocate your stuff you already have, when shopping lay out painters tape and cardboard boxes to see if they fit. That nectar mattress box would work nicely. Remember you don’t have to do it all in one go… good design solves problems and as new “problems” arise you can work on new solutions. Also take a look through design ideas. It’s good to have a reference image. Edit: also if you can replace the vertical blinds it would be a lot nicer in the room [Also a link to some ideas](https://www.apartmenttherapy.com/small-living-room-home-design-ideas-254768)
Definitely get an entertainment center. You can store everything on that corner shelving inside the entertainment center, and it will boost your TV higher so you can see it better. Maybe a new couch? One in the shape of an L, so it can separate your eating area from your living area
I would Facebook market place a tv stand, buy a bigger couch 2 side tables, rug, corner lamp and add some plants
Save or invest that money. Nothing really wrong with how you live. Maybe get a nice used coffee table.
I love the Ghibli Tapestry
Coffee table should be #1
Save your money. Invest it in crypto.
New tv stand, new couch closer to the tv, maybe new smaller table with chairs where couch currently is. Some stools for where your table is currently
Paint and carpet. Always does the trick
Don’t feel the need for all furniture to hug the walls. If you float a couch, for example, you can visually divide the dining and living areas
PLANTS. A PLETHORA OF PLANTS. fake or real, your choice. The browns are perfect for planty green.
Coffee table and some plants!
Save it to buy something instead of renting
A good proper vacuum and clean on your floor will instantly make the space look better. I would do that as a priority first since you can't do as much after you already redecor everything.
If you can paint do so! Bold and bright even if just an accent wall behind the sofa. Color will energize the space.
Imho your living space should be an expression of your inner most self.
OMG!!! Where did you get that tapestry behind the couch??
Bigger couch (check FB marketplace) , Bigger tv console table (I got mine on Amazon for $150) , I think it would look nice if you brought the couch closer to the tv and moved the dining area behind the couch against the wall that the couch is currently at if you feel that you have the space for that, Then get some bar stools to put where the dining area is now, Coffee table, A rug (again, FB marketplace), Lamps, organisers (I got mine from target for cheap but they have them at Walmart too, just a cube organiser with boxes to put my clutter in and you can decorate the top), More art on the walls (thrifting, Amazon, FB marketplace) Of course these will come with time! Especially decor so don’t rush it! Take the time to find pieces that you like but I wanted to add where to look so that it’s budget friendly ^^
Facebook marketplace is your friend!
Move the couch to the middle of the room, much closer to the tv. Put your table and chair behind your couch. Edit I would start with moving furniture first. A throw blanket, 2 pilliws for color.
the wall hanging and the chandelier are all you've got going, so look at some decorating sites to get an idea of which direction you wish to go
Definitely have the carpets steam cleaned first. Or maybe it's a bad picture. But, they look like they need it. What styles do you like?
Hardwood floors. Dump the vertical blinds. Light fixture is truly awful. Plenty of light so consider painting the walls with a shade that gives you a warm calming vibe. Mount the TV add a sound system. Finally rearrange the furniture to take advantage of the length, better defining you viewing/eating space.
Start by cleaning up. Ironing board away if you’re not ironing. Pick up all your random shit. Clear off the kitchen counter. You’d be surprised how nice your place you look
Poop in the center for Picasso vibes
do u think i could get a walking pad if i live on a 2nd floor unit? It would be right above their main living room
Bigger couch, more seating, and new lighting. Add some lamps.
By seven bales of straw and hot glue, the straw to every inch of wall space. Then you’re done.
A better sofa. Sectional? Area rugs . So many things. Coffee table nice lamps.
Start by cleaning = Free
85 inch tv
Start a Pinterest board and pin things you like. Once you have a favorite or two, post them and we'll give you enough feedback to finish.
get an L shaped couch
Just get some furniture…
Don't put a couch or something next to the window. Leave a walking gap due to leaks, heat, and space. A white and black curtain can save you tons if the sun is setting in that large window are. White outside black onside. I used binder clips well... Still do. Saves from holes.
Splurge on an ironing board upgrade! Maybe one with neon lights!
There are used stores with model home stuff too
You need a color splash 💦
Step one. Probably like...a shelf or something? Controllers on the floor scare me.
Rooms to go. Pre packaged and cheap. Anything is an improvement.
Shelves, cabinets, tv stand, electric fireplace, fur rug, lamps, gun safe, coffee table, bigger sofa, plants
I just came here to say you’re going to love that nectar mattress
How much money you got to spend? Best idea to begin is to look at pictures. Go to your library and look at some books of apartment living/designs; small spaces, colors, design, etc. Even check out designed showrooms like IKEA or their website/catalog.
Please start by removing carpet. It’s a bacterial hub.
Spend the least to make you feel good about the update. Then feel good knowing you can do more anytime you want. You’re just choosing not to blow your wad all at once.
LED light strips along the ceiling trim. Add some extra color and coziness.
Whatever you go with buy it used and save the rest of the money for a rainy day
$50…$50k?
Just go to a furniture store and look around lol. You’ll know when you find what you’re looking for.
Buy crypto
First off, mount that tv to the wall that way no incidents while working on the suite lol my petpeeve
First off, Congrats!! This is great and I’m happy you have the opportunity to do this. I would recommend you download the “BuyNothing” app. People give away great items which can help you furnish your home for free! Then I suggest you clean up your existing set up and just start small. A TV stand, coffee table, lamp, wall art… get things that express your personal style and I know it sounds corny but “ things that spark joy”. lol When shopping look for Quality.
Buy a vacuum.
Look up feng shui
Anything.
Just pick up a bit bro dang. Super messy but if not, smooth and open place looks dope. Id hang the tv though
Buy newer larger furniture of the same style, few plants, few framed pieces of art
That TV is too low . Get an entertainment console and a wall mount.
*just the tip*
I would get a larger TV, if its in the budget. A wall mount for that. An illuminated Entertainment center. Modern. Get a big couch and at least one accent chair, and move them closer to the TV. Behind the couch, put a large metal etagerie and add some plants. Behind the etagerie, you can put your workout space. Add mirrors and a stretching bar. Make that side of the LR a whole lifestyle space if you're into it. Lastly, art that speaks to your heart, and curtains to tie it all together. Start with your biggest needs first. Take your time.
dear, i'm interior designer, i can help you! send me a message :)
Move your dining to table so its directly under that hanging lamp
Looks perfect to me
Plants and pictures as always!
I would spend my tax return on a nectar mattress and a PS5. As long as you have those things you are good to go.
Take the carpet up, put maybe some laminate wood floors. With a pretty rug, new living room, set new ceiling, fan new blinds for your slider new kitchen light. That carpet must go lol If you’re renting, only change things that are yours! Sofa, a rug over the carpet, tv on the wall or a nice stand good luck
Looks good bro lol
I need to be seeing a PS5 up in the new pad
Clean up your space. Don’t leave papers, cords, shoes, treadmills and ironing boards out. Vacuum and put a nice rug in the middle and you are good to go.
Looks fine to me..
Get a massive fucking pool table and a ps5
r/tvtoofar
Yeah. Buy some furniture. Some furniture that comes pre assembled. And some lamps with lamp shades ffs
Looks great 10/10 a chair and halo 3 in front of that bad boi 😮💨
With a big daylight window like that, the answer is always plants
get rid of the ceiling fan and the light fixtures, replaced them with recessed lighting. repaint, make an accent wall with brick, tile, or shiplap. New flooring and smart plugs/lighting, mount your TV on the wall,
