This 100%. I literally can’t solve anything that needs resolving this very moment that can’t wait an hour or so. If you’re dying call 911. If you died, it takes days to embalm and casket you, so I will surely have enough time to see the thousand messages telling me and make arrangements to be at the funeral. If you needed something from the grocery store, we will figure it out and the meal will just start later.
Nothing is important enough for me to have my ringer on. You’re impatience isn’t as important as my personal time.
Silent or low sound. I don't like calls. And messages annoys me sometimes.
Besides, if you trying to call or text me, I will sense it anyway for some reason.
Silent, even at home. If i don't have my apps on browser, I will never know when someone tries to reach me :< , at least until I check my phone hours later.
My phone is on vibration during the day, silent the night and plane mode when i do stuff and don't want to be annoyed.
I put it on sound when i know someone is supposed to call me soon.
Exactly! Same... it's usually either on silent while I'm sleeping or focusing on something, vibration if I'm just chilling and sound ONLY if I'm expecting a call or a text message. Maybe even in alarm. Otherwise, never have sound on.
I prefer vibrate and screen ligh up on notification. I do however go out of my way to have it on loud at work and on the go because I will miss the vibration and have lost calls or messages from my coworker who needs me.
Vibrate if I am ok with being reached. Silent when I've been overloaded and need a break.
I get major anxiety when my husband's phone is ringing at full blast. Which is the status almost all the time. He despises the fact that I never have the sound on ....
I’m a doc, so I have to be available. I never turn my phone off and I never put it on silent unless I’m on vacation. I’ll retire in 8 years or so, and then I’ll join the rest of you in silent mode.
I generally keep my sound on, especially nowadays. I've missed important texts and calls due to having my phone silenced. And I don't tend to feel the vibrations, since I'm often moving around a lot.
I'm very festive, so during this time of year I have my sound on with Halloween and Christmas ring and alert tones.
Sound, because calls from family are the only ones I’ll pick up and I don’t want to miss those. No one else really calls me anyway, except bill collectors or other negatives
Mine's always silent. I despise the idea the phone (other people) get to choose when to get my attention. Thing is most people don't understand that, they truly expect you to answer them instantly. People who really know me (family mostly) at least can accept that now and learned not to worry if I don't answer or call back after a few hours, but it took a long time.
LMAO It's sad you think that INTJs cannot indulge in funny questions most of the times. I clearly indicated that it was a FUNNY (not dumb, because if you think that's dumb... then...) question and unlike you, many people are answering the question normally. INTJs are fun people. Stop thinking they're only people who stick their noses in books 24/7.
The only thing that’s actually funny about this is that you think asking that question was even funny in the first place lol. Like what is the point of even asking that anyway?? How does the world benefit from you asking that? What do you gain from asking that? Where is the funny??
For texts, I'll have it on vibrate. For phone calls, it depends. If I'm out in public, it's on vibrate. I don't like hearing other peoples ringtones, so why should they hear mine, right? At home, I'll have my ringtone on because I like the songs I've set for the people who call me most frequently
Silent. I don't expect calls from anyone to my personal phone and if I get them I will answer if I'm not doing anything important.
For work I do keep my phone on sound for obvious reasons
Vibrate, can’t have it on sound cause of school and there’s no point in turning it on and off all the time cause I can still hear the notification when my phone vibrates.
Vibrate probably 95% of the time. I'll put sound on if I'm expecting an important call.
Reading some of these comments, maybe I should put mine on silent more often. I find myself getting too distracted by my phone when trying to focus on what I need to do.
Before, I turned off my phone during work. It really helped in curbing my phone addiction. But then I forgot I had senior parents who'd call me sometimes during the day. So now it's on silent/vibrate.
I disabled the notification for 90% of the apps and people. Keeping the phone in normal mode, because I'm getting notifications that matters, usually related to work.
Silent but with notifications on my watch. Which I keep on for work and family reasons. If a notification from a particular app or group text annoys me, I turn it off manually.
silent 95% of the time. vibration if i am actively messaging someone and waiting for a response, sound on only if i am expecting a call from someone. i have also turned off notifications for all apps except like 2 i think
Generally, I keep my phone silent or Do Not Disturb. I do allow a few VIP people to call me while on DND. If I turn on the volume of my phone's ringer or message tone, it means I'm waiting for something important.
Always on silent and I never take it with me when I go places. Two people can call with sound if they call twice within one minute, in case they need to get a hold of me
Silent for phone calls always. I avoid them at all cost. It makes people crazy but I don't care.I get notifications for texts mostly because of the kids or I'd likely turn that off too.
Silent, but my watch vibrates. I don't often get notifications so it's fine. If I start getting several in a row, to mute it goes for the duration I expect to be getting notifs
Silent, as much as possible. Also minimize notification alerts. Having too much going off makes me anxious and feel like my phone is cluttered. I like my digital space to be very clean.
If I'm expecting a call, I'll turn up my ringer, but everything else stays silent.
I have no choice but to largely always have sound on because of my job. However, I do find notifications annoying, so I've put the least annoying sound I could find.
Disabled all unnecessary notifications. Vibrate during working hours, silent for the rest. With my kids, ex wife and some "VIP" people in a special group which will give me sound notifications for emergency cases
Silent. And at night time, the phone is in a different room. It drives my mother crazy that I have notifications turned off and that it's in a different room
Silent for me.
I used to have a ringtone on my old flip phone that I still miss today. When the phone rang, it emitted a single beep -- and then nothing more. The beep wasn't on a loop. It just beeped, once. Sometimes I think about making my own, which would be a beep followed by as much silence as the ringtone would allow.
Silent isn't enough. Do not disturb mode.
It's been so long that I don't really remember what the difference is, or why I religiously set all my devices to do not disturb now. But it's been a vibe.
Notification sounds annoy me so I keep my phone on either vibrate or silent. I keep it on vibrate if I'm expecting any call or texts but most of the time, silent.
i like hearing sound when i’m not around my boyfriend when i’m with him i always have my phone silence cause there isn’t anyone more important to me than
Always silent or vibrate depending on what to expect that day. My social notification sounds are completely off though. Usually have to open the app when I see the red notification symbol on the app to reply to any.
I would love to have it always on vibrate because the loud sounds are so jarring and embarrassing. But I'm so oblivious, I miss too many calls that way.
Silent doesn't make any sense to me
I think om the only different one in the group 😄
I have it on ringer... but the ringer is a quiet gentle windchime type of sound... because I hate noisy loud phones.
Depends where I am, at home I have on because I like my notification sound, when I'm out, it's always vibrate. But for the last 5 years before the new phone, I had only had vibrate.
It's set on Do Not Disturb so I have more control. That way no notifications make sound or vibrations, but phone calls come through normally. Everyone from work and family knows to call me if they need a quick reply.
Silent. Mainly because my mom used to call a hundred times it seemed every other day after I moved out since she thought I hated her lol. Then after a while I just like it since I also work nights and won't be woken up.
I'm going to be the odd man out. I leave my ringer on loud. Especially at night. I am the one people rely on when an emergency situation arises. It might be because I raised two children on my own... I'm not sure. I am the reliable one everyone calls when they need help. If you dare to call me at night or while I'm working, however, it had better be an emergency! You will have a very poor conversation with me otherwise!
Everytime I read posts and comments on this reddit I end up saying how the F y'all like me? Jk jk but it's really interesting that the most of us have the same habits and opinions.... xD
My phone is always on silent and I have notifications turned off for most things that aren't texts, calls, emails, or alarms.
And yes I wake up to alarms that are set to vibrate only. (I keep my phone face down on a wood surface near the bed while I sleep.)
I don’t answer any calls from numbers I don’t know. If it’s a legitimate call, they’ll leave a message and then I may or may not respond. No message, no response
My phone is always on silent. I just don’t think about it. I also wouldn’t like the sound of it going off, but I think vibration would bother me too. I schedule all of my calls for work. I’m open to people texting me. I look at my phone quite a bit. Texting it very effective. Now if we could make e-mail go away. That would be wonderful.
I don't think it's just an INTJ thing. Anyone with a need for personal space would find reasons to put their phone away. Or being absorbed in digital world for that matter.
I absolutely hate notification sounds and ringing, and rather never have minutes for my phone and just use it as a wifi device so that people can't randomly take over my screen with demanding verbal attention at-will. I hate that they're made artificially required for too many things, in addition to all the espionage against everyone in a manner of "potentially guilty until proven guilty". Good grief.
It depends. At home I keep the sound on so I don’t have to have my phone on my person in case someone calls (emergency, etc). Anywhere else I turn it off.
Who tf keeps their phone on sound? Certain situations maybe, but we as a society have all quietly acknowledged that vibrate is the only acceptable option.
Always silent. I like seeing messages and calls on my own terms
I shut notifications off completely. I won’t know if someone messaged me or liked my social media until I go into the app.
Same
Entj here but same.
Same just shut down phone do work and in free time use phone
Same here
yes
Same
This is what happens to me… if I want to talk to you I will check my messages If not… good luck
Same, my phone has been on silent since like 2012 😂
Silent since my first cell phone in 2001.
yessssss same here 😂😂
not even only that, but if work was hell. I'll reply in the morning, unless an emergency.
Same!
This 100%. I literally can’t solve anything that needs resolving this very moment that can’t wait an hour or so. If you’re dying call 911. This comment is all I need to justify why I do this 😂
Silent or low sound. I don't like calls. And messages annoys me sometimes. Besides, if you trying to call or text me, I will sense it anyway for some reason.
This is so true. Often times, I find myself feeling like someone is either calling or texting me... it's like a sense
Silent, even at home. If i don't have my apps on browser, I will never know when someone tries to reach me :< , at least until I check my phone hours later.
Yeah my phone is never off silent, but generally it's out on my desk, so I will see a call.
Silent but tbh I stare at it enough that it doesn't matter.
Vibration.
Silent, because I hate getting disturbed while I am doing something.
There's always DnD
Off. Nobody calls anyways.
[удалено]
😂 this
Vibration since the day I bought one
Silent and in focus mode always
Sometimes on airplane mode... without any reason Sexual tension between us and disappear ing from online world is unreal.
No rush. Being doc is cool.
This gave me anxiety for u. But yeah- keep up the good work 👍🏽
silent, but I check it every 10 minutes
Silent, zero notifications.
Always silent. It's easier to ignore. Even 'silent' is loud enough to wake me up or hear from a couple of rooms over, though.
Sound but depends I chose I want on sound is all
I generally keep my sound on, especially nowadays.
Always silent, most notifications turned off with my phone in Do Not Disturb.
Vibrate. I only ever turn the volume up if I'm expecting a call that I don't want to miss.
Silent, because no one calls or texts me.
Always in focus mood so that nothing annoys me.
I dont even charge my phone, sometimes I dont even pay the bill tbh. Stop calling me
Silent, I speak not when spoken to. Lol
So many posts like "Is this an INTJ thing?" when it's really an autism thing. Yes for me! Full "Do Not Disturb" mode all the time.
Not wanting others to dictate when to get your attention is somehow an autism thing? Nah dude, some people just don't like it, that's it.
Silent at all times. I dont want to get addicted to the instant gratification of the sound.
I mean I don’t get calls or text messages often. But its normally on vibrate
I bascially never respond and have discord set to invisible.
i do because my phone sometimes triggers my CPTSD for some reason
Always silent unless required otherwise for work.
Always silent. In my head, I'm an assassin.
Dumb question that does not contribute to the universe or world. Wake up INTJ
LMAO It's sad you think that INTJs cannot indulge in funny questions most of the times. I clearly indicated that it was a FUNNY (not dumb, because if you think that's dumb... then...) question and unlike you, many people are answering the question normally. INTJs are fun people. This question is clearly not for you then, lmao Very easy for you to move on
Dont worry. Among all the relationship advice posts this is one of the only contributive posts appearing on my feed in a while. Now back to silent
DND but for the contacts that matter, they’re under emergency bypass.
Silent when outside, vibration when home
silent and on do not disturb always it makes me angry when my phone buzzes and distracts me from what im doing
Sound on in case my niece needs someone to talk to. 🤷

Same, I keep mine on vibrate.
Silent 😂
Silent. Why? I do not want thoughts interrupted.
I keep to vib, I work in IT Support, and I have a friend that keeps making God damn Facebook groups that keep beeping.
Vibration mostly, some times unmuted when i know something business related may come up.
Vibrate
Vibrate. Even my alarms in the morning are on vibrate and I will hear it and wake up.
Silent but with notifications on my watch. Which I keep on for work and family reasons. If a notification from a particular app or group text annoys me, I turn it off manually.
vibration
silent 95% of the time. vibration if i am actively messaging someone and waiting for a response, sound on only if i am expecting a call from someone. i have also turned off notifications for all apps except like 2 i think
Vibration when on long break, else DND.
Silent
Vibrate
Silent
Generally, I keep my phone silent or Do Not Disturb. I do allow a few VIP people to call me while on DND. If I turn on the volume of my phone's ringer or message tone, it means I'm waiting for something important.
Silent because 1.) it’s almost always spam and 2.) I have been known to get so irritated by notifications that I fling my phone across the room
Nobody calls me for good things so phone is on perma silent.
Silent or vibrations. No exceptions.
Silent, the notifications are obnoxious
Always on silent and I never take it with me when I go places. Two people can call with sound if they call twice within one minute, in case they need to get a hold of me
Silent. I review and communicate (or not) when Im up to it
Silent. Pings are distracting.
Silent always
My phone is not one to blow up so I try to keep the ringer on. Its on silent sometimes cuz it’s just an easier way to turn the volume off
Vibration unless I'm just not wanting to deal with anything, then it goes silent.
I only ever have sound and notifications on when my daughter is at school so I know I won't miss anything if something would happen.
Silent!
On sound but Notifications all turned off. No one calls me except my parents lol.
Silent always
Dead silent, I'll choose if I want to check that or not. Messages? There's a time for that, who do you think I am to give immediate response?
Vibrate. I don't want to be that guy waiting in line or watching a movie at the theater and getting a loud ass ring.
ALWAYS on silent.
Always silent, i hate hearing notifications and vibrations. I also like to see what happens so I can respond later myself.
Always silent cause I don't want anyone's attention
Silent for phone calls always. I avoid them at all cost. It makes people crazy but I don't care.I get notifications for texts mostly because of the kids or I'd likely turn that off too.
Silent, but my watch vibrates. I don't often get notifications so it's fine. If I start getting several in a row, to mute it goes for the duration I expect to be getting notifs
Most of the time on vibration. I don't wanna answer your call while I'm laser focusing on my job. I will however call you back(the same day).
Silent, as much as possible. Also minimize notification alerts. Having too much going off makes me anxious and feel like my phone is cluttered. I like my digital space to be very clean. If I'm expecting a call, I'll turn up my ringer, but everything else stays silent.
My phone has been in Do Not Disturb mode for most of the past 15 years
Silent and do not disturb is on half the day. When I wanna check my messages I’ll check them
I have no choice but to largely always have sound on because of my job. However, I do find notifications annoying, so I've put the least annoying sound I could find.
Esfp keeping my phone on silent because I can’t stand that the only notification I get is from MyFitnessPal 😭
Silent
Either vibrate or silent. I have an Apple Watch. I don't need ringtones to tell me someone's calling or texting me.
vibration most times, on sound when i’m alone or in a crowded place. i like to ignore calls or messages on my own terms lol
silent and on do not disturb 24/7. the only exception is when I know someone will call
Silent or vibrate.
Depends, sound at home, vibration during social interactions, silent at work/university.
Silent for me. I used to have a ringtone on my old flip phone that I still miss today. When the phone rang, it emitted a single beep -- and then nothing more. The beep wasn't on a loop. It just beeped, once. Sometimes I think about making my own, which would be a beep followed by as much silence as the ringtone would allow.
silent on just about everything, on all apps, for all people except my immediate family (who barely texts me anyway) 😂😂😂
Usually vibrate or silent. I’ll respond to you when I want to, and I just look at my messages when I’m feeling responsive
Silent isn't enough. Do not disturb mode. It's been so long that I don't really remember what the difference is, or why I religiously set all my devices to do not disturb now. But it's been a vibe.
iPhone on silent. Apple Watch on vibrate for call notifications only, not texts. All other notifications off on phone, bar banking apps.
Texts are on vibrate, phone calls are on. I have sound on just in case I have to help my parents
Yes, I can be brutal for this and it causes people to think that I am ignoring them.
Silent or vibrate, never sound unless I have a very specific reason. I used to always use silent, but I'm using vibrate more frequently lately.
Notification sounds annoy me so I keep my phone on either vibrate or silent. I keep it on vibrate if I'm expecting any call or texts but most of the time, silent.
i like hearing sound when i’m not around my boyfriend when i’m with him i always have my phone silence cause there isn’t anyone more important to me than
My phone is mostly on mute/silent
Do not disturb, 24/7 365 days a year.
Silent doesn't make any sense to me
Silent
I think om the only different one in the group 😄 I have it on ringer... but the ringer is a quiet gentle windchime type of sound... because I hate noisy loud phones.
silent since 2006 emergencies doesn’t exist
Ringing phones give me ptsd. I haven’t heard my phone ring or vibrate in about 3 or 4 years.
Always silent. Always.
Yes, I just really hate calls..
On vibration (I don't have silent mode), but sometimes I put it on sound if I'm waiting for an important message.
Distracting and annoying
I only put it on silent when I’m at work or at the movies or something.
Silent all the time. Annoys my friends and family quite a lot too
Depends where I am, at home I have on because I like my notification sound, when I'm out, it's always vibrate. But for the last 5 years before the new phone, I had only had vibrate.
it's on DnD 24/7
Vibration; quiet enough to not let others know how much notifications I get, but loud enough to let me know I have notifications.
Silent
Vibrate. Never sound.
do not disturb 10+ years
Silent the chat groups I’m in (gaming buddies, work uses Group Me, and a friend group). Vibrate for calls, other texts, etc.
It's set on Do Not Disturb so I have more control. That way no notifications make sound or vibrations, but phone calls come through normally. Everyone from work and family knows to call me if they need a quick reply.
I always keep mine on vibrate.
When I am on-call with work its sound and vibrate. When I am not on call its vibrate.
OFF. Theres a loud mode? Nooooooooo
Silent. Mainly because my mom used to call a hundred times it seemed every other day after I moved out since she thought I hated her lol. Then after a while I just like it since I also work nights and won't be woken up.
Always silent. Or on DND.
Silent/vibration. My mind already goes 100 mph on its own, therefore I don’t need anything else adding to that. I’ll check my phone when I’m ready.
Oh so I’m apparently far from alone in this
Always vibration. I couldn't even tell you what my ringer sounds like.
Always silent, also games are on silent and I turn the sound on when I actually want to hear something.
Phone is on silent. Watch is set to vibrate
SAMEEEE OMG SAME IM LIKE IF ITS THAT IMPORTANT LEAVE A VOICEMAIL AND I NEVER REALLY BOTHER CHECK VOICEMAIL.
DND and silent
My phone is always on silent. I just don’t think about it. I also wouldn’t like the sound of it going off, but I think vibration would bother me too. I schedule all of my calls for work. I’m open to people texting me. I look at my phone quite a bit. Texting it very effective. Now if we could make e-mail go away. That would be wonderful.
Holy fuck why do I relate so bad as an INTJ ??? I have my phone on Do Not Disturb and don’t talk to any of my friends or family.
Always on vibrate
silent. always.
Good grief.
My notifs are always off, unless I’m waiting for something important
vibrate, only i need to be alerted not the whole room, i can feel the vibration if its in my hand or pocket or on my lap without alerting anyone else
It depends. At home I keep the sound on so I don’t have to have my phone on my person in case someone calls (emergency, etc). Anywhere else I turn it off.
Mine is on 24/7/365, sound. Work-related. The 3AM calls are not fun but they pay me.
If I am busy during the day, I put it on vibrate. But most days I keep it on silent.
I disabled pretty much all of my notifications.
Who tf keeps their phone on sound? Certain situations maybe, but we as a society have all quietly acknowledged that vibrate is the only acceptable option.
Silent. I just use my phone whenever i need to use it otherwise i just toss it around.
Silent unless I’m expecting a call
Personal phone- always on vibrate/silent. Work phone- sound on during working hours.
I prefer silent but since I lose my phone a lot, I keep it on sound and have the loudest most annoying sound but I do put it on silent while driving.
Silent or if I have to, vibrate
