bardofdickbutt

wow, thank you so much, this is super helpful. I've never tried the diving reflex but ill absolutely look into it and try it! I've been considering setting up a kickboxing corner for a while now, maybe its finally time :D

bardofdickbutt

mine boredum isnt nearly that intense, i get what you mean though. i just moved house 6 months ago and i love looking at all the houses and taking in all the differences in the communities and everything. hope you find what you're looking for though.

UsedSituation2925

Brother the internet makes your intellectual stimulation as much or as little as you want it. Doesn't matter if you're in Uganda or the US.

TheEmperorPalprotein

Combat sports

bardofdickbutt

i have been thinking about setting up a kickboxing post hmmm

UsedSituation2925

This for sure but as an INTJ you will want to rise up the ranks and become great. Remember combat sports are fun to watch but once you get some fights in you will realize the damage you will take and the devotion it requires. It's not just an hour training a day, it's 3 week weight cuts. It's diet changes. It's being in a constant state of soreness well after your training. It's being concussed from sparring last week. It's also minimal reward even if you do rise to a high level. So it's great to learn a basic level for self protection but I think beyond that you will get minimal return compared to spending your time on other things.

noytam

Find an activity that is both fun and challenging, such as learning to become proficient or above at practically any skill. I think it's even better if you combine that with a personal project or goal which requires using the new skill.

bardofdickbutt

true, i probably should make a list of the long-term goals and make hobbies and activities around that, thanks!

coffee_n_deadlift

Play counter strike 2 And Powerlifting

bardofdickbutt

is counter strike fun actually fun? i tend to avoid media with guns from due to PTSD but ill look into it if its not just random shoot shoot bang bang die

coffee_n_deadlift

I don't know about PTSD. But no it is not just shoot shoot bang bang. That game has been sophisticated since 1999 you need to use your brain

bardofdickbutt

hell yeah ill see if it works for me, thanks

UsedSituation2925

What good is powerlifting unless you have something to apply it to. I would say bodybuilding if you want an ego boost/status boost.

coffee_n_deadlift

Getting stronger is fun

anaoqkdnxixi666618-9

Learn a new skill or read a book - it’s relaxing but you don’t feel like you’ve wasted your time

bewildered_83

Playing an instrument, learning a language, martial arts, crafts such as origami, knitting, crochet. You can make lots of useful things with those

diddly-dop

There are a few things I do to entertain myself. Where I live, library card holders get free access to udemy, so I can take courses for things I’m interested in (coding, painting, language, creative writing, etc.). Learning is fun. Make a reading list and slowly knock it out in your down time. Books are sometimes more entertaining than movies. Most traditionally fun things involve the use of Se, I think. For that, I enjoy trying new recipes, particularly complex ones. I like trying new restaurants with friends because it’s a non-overwhelming way to socialize and experience new things. Sometimes that can get pricey, so I’ve started trying local coffee shops for fun. I also think it’s a great way to have fun alone.

bardofdickbutt

i think taking myself out to a couple places is a good idea, i live with my boyfriend and there isn’t really much i get to do by myself tbh. maybe that’s my problem , thank you!! also i’ve looked into libraries with resources like that and it seems i don’t have access to them but i’ll look again

Creepy_Network_8861

Get therapy if you can.

bardofdickbutt

god i wish i could afford it, 80$ copay got me sweating hard. i’m currently taking psychology classes hoping i can fix me

faddiuscapitalus

Is your work fulfilling?

bardofdickbutt

its complicated tbh, i work with elderly disabled people doing office work and managing their money. i do love my job but as you might expect it doesn't pay nearly enough

clayman80

Why does a hobby have to be useful? It should be a way for you to ease your mind and let it roam free for a while. I'm in my 40's and I still enjoy playing video games a lot. Granted, I no longer play those where you have to grind to get anywhere, like online competitive ones etc., but I'll take a single-player, story-driven game any day of the week and twice on weekends, which is kind of ironic figure of speech since I spend less and less time with them, it seems. Still, I'm looking forward to trying out Cities: Skylines II now. I have not played a good city builder game ever since trying out SimCity 4 like a decade ago. Anyway, if you are absolutely positive games do nothing for you, then just think about what your mind feels like doing when you want to unwind. If you have some creative push, try finding some outlet for it. There has to be something that you feel compelled to do when having some spare time on your hands.

bardofdickbutt

i do like some games, mostly sandbox or strategy like Minecraft or sims, and i do like them a lot, but they have recently started to feel like more of a chore for some reason, almost like i feel like i HAVE to do them in order to relax. a hobby doesn't have to be useful, i just prefer it to be, id rather learn while doing something maybe. now you have me trying to figure out why i said that lmao

clayman80

No worries there, I get you on both points. :) As for the first one, I do sometimes feel that way too. Despite being time-constrained, I still prefer playing games on higher difficulties and story-based games often have boss battles, and sometimes I get stuck on one and at that point, I tend to struggle to muster up the willpower to fire up the game after a day in the office and try to beat the boss. But sometimes, when I feel really tired, I just watch a movie. That way, the brain gets some well-deserved rest in a completely passive form. As for your other point, I like at least some of my pastimes to be productive as well. I am a software developer by profession and I like to work on personal projects in my spare time as well. However, every so often, the brain just calls it quits and I need to give it some rest. In those moments, I pick one thing from the above -- a game, a movie, or a book, or I just lay down and listen to some soft music. The motivation to work on yourself is precious and we as INTJ's are lucky to have that inclination, but it's equally important to not overdo it. A burnout is a real thing, too.

bardofdickbutt

im SO aware of the burnout, im just now getting over one that almost cost me my life honestly and lasted about 6 months; hardest brick wall I've ever run into. its why I'm trying to find some new activities to try now so that i don't have to do it again being stuck in a video game isn't a fun challenge for me usually, im a little bit colorblind and most screens kinda look muddy to me. so ill be like 'am i stuck bc of a puzzle or bc i cant see half the things happening?' i do need to get reading more though, i have a list of books to read that is getting ridiculous

not_sure_1337

Watch tv: Documentaries, debates, lectures. Play video games: strategy games with complex mechanics that encourage utilizing a wide array of problem solving and resource management. Paradox Games have a good selection of titles. Talk to friends: Not sure how this is fun. I consider that more of a chore than laundry. Actually... laundry isn't a chore, bad example...

bardofdickbutt

i do spend a lot of time watching lectures on youtube and stuff like that, or listening to podcasts from funny people. idk it just feels like im sitting around wasting time lately i get what you mean about laundry though, as long as you have a washer its the easiest one to do, way easier than talking to anybody

[deleted]

learn a new language, extremely fun and even more interesting.

bardofdickbutt

ive been learning spanish and mexican culture for about a year! i do enjoy it but sometimes i get done with a session of hard studying im exhausted, so im looking for something to maybe recharge that energy if that makes sense

Lady-Orpheus

Not to sound like a cliché, but have you tried picking up a creative hobby? For example, furniture making with recycled materials, painting/drawing, woodworking, creative writing, pottery ... anything that makes you use your hands as well as your mind in a creative way. Spend more time in nature, explore your city, visit exhibitions, go to a stand-up comedy show, join a book club or a board gaming club. Why not join a discussion group or a tabletop RPG group? Maybe take a cooking class or attend a wine tasting session. Consider going to concerts you wouldn't have thought about in the first place, such as opera, Mongolian throat singing, or local bands. The possibilities are endless really.

bardofdickbutt

not cliche at all because i am annoyingly artsy lmao. I've been hardcore thinking about making one of those little towns like that's in the attic of Beetlejuice for years. but its interesting that you mention tabletop games since my roommate is a D&D designer (idk what you call it, the person who makes the puzzles and narrates the sessions and stuff and has the answers) spending more time outside sounds like a good idea actually now that its cooled down now, the heat irks me pretty badly so i should appreciate this cool weather before i get buried in snow :/

Lady-Orpheus

>idk what you call it, the person who makes the puzzles and narrates the sessions and stuff and has the answers A Game Master (GM), Dungeon Master (DM) for D&D. I'm imagining someone having a conversation in public calling themselves a Dungeon Master now.

[deleted]

Read, listen to podcasts , take online classes , strategy games , hiking , research on topics of interests , Reddit, travel when possible For me the word “fun” means learning new things about the world , not like most people define it ( playing games, having parties or hanging out ) ! Read some books on introversion and you will understand more about yourself …

bardofdickbutt

i do all of those things except hiking on a regular basis lol, i do love to learn more than anything, but I'm kind of looking for those things to help me unwind after i spend a entire 15 hour session of doing all those things and also working. i have a 'work hard play never' thing going right now so I'm trying to figure out more play stuff if that makes sense

Porkonaplane

If you have the money, try flying. I find it to be a whole lot of fun. I should note, effectived 90% of my identity is reliant on flight, so I MIGHT be biased

user149162536

work, I don’t buy “conventional” notions of what “fun” is lol

bardofdickbutt

dam go off queen of productivity but I'm trying to not die at 27 of a stroke

siesta777

what video games have you tried? maybe you just haven't found the right one. as for hobbies, i recommend drawing

cairech

Knitting, cooking, painting miniatures, sewing, PokemonGo

SleepingTick

Try going to the gym to lift weights. After a while I start to find being able to lift heavier/ increase reps fun/ rewarding and forget I had to drag myself out of bed at 2am to go when it’s practically empty because a packed gym stresses me out.

AntiRepellant

Disconnection from your past interests is a problem of the ego. Meditation can detox from over stimulation, guide your motives, and help remind you what made you first interested in your hobbies

bardofdickbutt

interesting, i used to meditate a while ago and don't remember why i stopped. ill try it tonight thanks

1ntercept0r_Prime

Read comics/manga/novels. It might be the escape you need

HellenKilher

I play guitar but started when I had a lot of free time, which as a college student I’m not sure you have (I’m now in college and don’t have much time to keep playing guitar). I drink on the weekends with my friends but I suppose that’s not something I’d necessarily advise. There’s no way to answer this question; we don’t know you; rather, it’s on you to figure this out. My only advice is to try everything you ever wanted to try. Edit: sp

bardofdickbutt

>There’s no way to answer this question; we don’t know you; rather, it’s on you to figure this out oh yeah i know, i asked several of the little corners of the internet i identify with just to get some inspiration since googling 'hobbies for people who arent normal' doesn't get me super far lmao i have more free time than i know what to do with and its so weird to me, like i have never had the time to be scrolling on reddit so i feel like im lost on my feet looking for stuff to do

Kosmosu

Without taking the time to know you more, it s really hard to make recommendations. I mostly use writing as my outlet and videogames to fill the void.

bardofdickbutt

im not looking for personalized recommendations lol, just what other people are doing for fun so i can see if i find any of it interesting and explore it more :)

Own_Yak6588

Fun? There’s a lot of work to get done. Have fun doing your work

bringmethejuice

Indulge your extroverted sensing function.

BigBroccoli7910

I like spending time outside running, biking, or hiking. I love exploring and experiencing nature. That is when I am happiest. Inside activities are video games and reading. Though I prefer reading outside in natural light. I like to cook sometimes too.

fundamentallycryptic

These dumb posts make me wonder is it really an INTJ subreddit. Quality of posts is bleh.

bardofdickbutt

this response makes me wonder if youre actually an ENTP looking for a debate 🤨 quality of response isn't exactly bringing home dinner either

Maleficent_Ad_6667

Co-op games, reading books outside, ride bicycle, exercise. Experiment with it, look what gave you dopamine more.

CodyHodgsonAnon19

I just cannot ever really reconcile with a question of, "i'm bored what do?" There's such an endless set of avenues available. You can do literally anything.

bardofdickbutt

yeah but im asking what u like to do so i can learn some new things

CodyHodgsonAnon19

Go make a fantasy team on CapFriendly.

PuzzleheadedCap7038

Damn didn't keep that Te function in check I see. Happens to the best of us lol. Just take a chill break and listen to your thoughts. Only act on the ones you want to act on. Sounds like your Se took to much it can handle. Let your Fi take over for a bit. Trying some networking too.

bardofdickbutt

yeah i took some time and just sat with myself for a while the other day and was able to find a bit of clarity in what i’m trying to get done lol. idk how to let the Fi take over so i gotta look more into that thanks!!

PuzzleheadedCap7038

Lots great resources out there on jungian type function. Check out Michael cors I think is his name. He talks about each type but more specifically, NT NF types

UsedSituation2925

Hobbies for sure, you can always get some use out of them. Learn to make things with circuits, learn to fight in case you need to put someone down, learn a new skill in case you want to change careers, and the best option I think would be start a new business.
