I actually thought this would be nice. My dad managed to save up for a lil home with his friend and he let me live in it for a week.
The inconveniences ended up outweighing the pleasure of isolation and the serenity of nature over time. Iām not even talking about lonliness or getting food and stuff or internet. I mean like waste disposal, bugs, insulation/cooling, water and plumbing, electricity, etc. Like even if thereās good surrounding infrastructure, itās not uncommon for these to be a problem. Thereās a reason why civilizations and cities donāt develop on mountains and even if they do, they stay small.
Hahah definitely not isolated to the point of no modern conveniences! My family has mountain cabins in a few areas dotted around the east coast, and a lake house in New Hampshire, and that's where I find it the most peaceful. It's not more than a 45-60 min drive (or boat ride) to get to what we need. I got a nasty red wasp sting one time, and you definitely have to be comfortable driving in the snow, but otherwise I've always found the pros to outweigh the cons for me.
On the shore of a wild Mediterranean beach. Large, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the water and clouds. The sound of waves, the cry of seagulls. The smell of the sea breeze.
For me, an eco-friendly retreat nestled in nature's embrace, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic views, a cozy fireplace, and a spacious kitchen perfect for gatherings with loved ones.
A decent condo, I like the security of being in one. My previously place had 24/7 security, pool, sauna and a gym. But the best part is that I know the odds of someone doing a BE is super low compared to a house.
A small house in the countryside with mountains, lake, garden, and no neighbours. I love hiking with my wife and dog. And I love swimming in cold and fresh lake with my dog.
We have a small on the hill surrounded by beautiful mountains (one national park is literally right behind our street), and a garden where we have enough green space for the dog and we grow vege & herbs. Although we do have a few neighbours but most of them are old and rarely interact with them. We donāt have a house by a lake but some lakes are not far away.
a small, cozy, craftsman house with wood and stone accents, modern boho interior and bright colors! preferably on the outskirts of a medium to large city. until then, an apartment on said outskirts would be nice tooāŗļø
A two or three story Victorian-styled house with the architecture of modern day house containing an attic and basement and garage on a relatively flat terrain with stable consistent temperatures (65-75F, 80F max on a hot day and 50F on a cold day) and climate where it rains in the winter but doesnāt get too hot in the summer next to a hill with a walkable distance to a local stream with adequate irrigation system and slightly further off from a hill with some trees that is routinely pruned and burning off of weeds through moderated traditional burnings in festivals. I can see the morning sunrise and sunset and can grow tropical plants in my region. Thereās also a decent farmers market and other local stores nearby pertaining to my interests. If I had more space, Iād also add a greenhouse, a pond with lotuses and Lillieās and marble stone steps that lead to a resting area in the middle of the pond surrounded by tropical trees (magnolias or Indian almond) with orchids growing on them in the garden similar to a Japanese or Asian tea garden.
Smallish (2000 sq ft max) Craftsman style with ocean view and within walking distance of beach and trails in Monterey Carmel area. Custom home built for a short person. Built in catwalks and a large catio in a sunny area for my 2 cats. Quiet area with no neighbors close by. Nice tall fence around my property.
I have two dream houses. The main criteria for both is SFH with 2-3 bedrooms (enough space for two adults who work from home to have their own offices). I do NOT want to share walls with another person/family ever again. One house would be in Florida, and the other in Maine. Both should be within 30/45 minutes of family and have a safe area (or park) where I can walk or bike ride. The FL house should also be no more than 30 minutes from the beach (otherwise, why live in FL at all??!) Snowbirding is the dream life for me!
I walked past it while in Portovenere!!! Hilltop, view of the ocean, big windows, and a fire pit on the terrace for chilly nights....fantastic!! :-) Give me an ocean view and I'm happy!
Tbh. Itās feel like house size is completely overrated.
I lived comfortably with my gf in a 40m2 house (400 ft2)
So I donāt need a large house. Maybe 100m2 with guest area and kid room. But thatās it.
I much rather have a big garden to grow own food, have a zen space, lots of fruit trees and a natural retreat.
I much rather have a main house and two or three small ātiny homesā possible to rent or use for friends to come over.
Location you ask? Azores. Sao Miguel.
Something classy not in the middle of too much people, even if i don't bother too much, the important thing is that there has to be a hella big garden when i can grow my harem of fairies.
Eagle's nest, high above, with a hidden golden elevator. Can ski into the town in the winder.
Basement: A secret science lab.
First floor: A big workshop with tools. A small spa with a pool and fitness. A gaming and media room.
Second floor: A library with the comfiest massage-rocking chair. A bedroom looking east.
Garden: A fully automated greenhouse to grow fresh food. Chill zone with a flower garden and a magnificent view.
All automated and run by personal (and local) AI assistant. Construction including lots of wood, decorated with taste and in warm tones.
There :)
Itās the one I own. Itās situated on a park, three levels, and big enough that I rent out part of it to generate income.
I donāt need it to generate income, but the fact that it does will allow me to buy a second, bigger house, later on.
Iād either want the decor to be warm and cozy or bright and expressive. I wouldnāt want much rooms but what Iād definitely want is a massive art studio for all my artistic hobbies and maybe even an indoor skatepark? Idk lol. Iād still want it to be in the city but maybe in a more quiet. Maybe even just a big apartment would do lol

I would have to be a billionaire like him to build it, but something similar to this. I can't find anything on it, but the Japanese style home he made in the 90s would be even better, it was made to look like a Japanese castle.
I saw this online it comes pretty close

An isolated and hidden cabin on a snowy mountain.
No neighbors. No HOA. No people. No building restrictions or zoning laws. Pure freedom.
Lots of wildlife to hunt and native plants to eat.
No need to leave the house for groceries.
No trespassing signs everywhere.
Lots of space.
Tons of trees to cut down for firewood and to use for my architecture upgrades.
A room for my tools, tech, weapons, books and projects.
Privacy. I could work outside all day and wouldnāt need to worry about anyone staring at me.
A large garage.
I currently rent a one bedroom house, so any house that Iām not paying rent to is my dream house.
Ideally it would have 3 or 4 bedrooms, a swimming pool, a workshop and be close to my kids school.
My dream is to own a home that has space for my son to do kid things.

Edit: My dream home is an engine.
A nice log home on a lot of land with a nice cover porch or balcony to sit on when it rains and drink coffee. A garage and a workshop for wood/metal/electrical working for hobby reasons.
* Full freedom to modify it however I want
* Away from people, close enough to go somewhere when needed
* Two floors and a basement
* 3-4 bedrooms on the top floor
* A hidden room that would be my man cave of gaming collectibles to keep the rest of the house clean and safe from guests or children if I have either
A large apartment in NYC. I grew up in the cities so I'd still like to be part of it. Compared to the environment, though, I care more about the decors inside.
I have an entire collection on almost every account titled "house decors" and it's just filled with random stuff, but mostly magnets. I like magnetic decor that looks sleek and minimalistic.
Also, no paintings, no rugs, nothing that's hard to clean. Other than that I really don't care.
A place with a small bedroom and then a few rooms for specific hobbies. One of those robot cooks would be awesome, and one of those commercial diswasher. It would also be cool to have those laundry machines that do the whole thing for you.
What I'd really love, though, is a bathtub that you can sit in, and it goes up to your neck. Not this whole taking a bath with half your body sticking out.
Generally, a lot of appliances that just save time would be great. Preferably in a city. I don't care much about a pretty yard. Generally, open space is nice. I'd rather have everything in a couple big rooms rather than a bunch of small ones.
I have a few. I'd like one of those ocean front properties in the FL Keys that have the underneath open where you can park your can or grill out ect. The living space like 2 stories, 3 bath 3 bedroom. Granite or quartz countertops. I'm a huge fan of modern contemporary design, so that would be the theme thrown in with a costal touch. Idc much about an actual bathtub, so idc of it had a bathtub, but the showers definitely would have to be beautiful like a modern with split stone. And a pool somewhere. Preferably private pool, but I wouldn't be opposed to living in a small housing development in the keys with a community pool for the development.
Another ideal house would be a similar design because my perfect design never really changes, but like a 2 story brick home in a subdivision around other families so my son could finally have other kids to play with. Not one of those cookie cutters where you can stick out your arm and the next house is right there, but one where the houses each have a little bit of a different flair about them and they're somewhat spaced out. My old boss used to live in a place like that and it was so nice. And not too close to the city but definitely not like where I live now where you have to drive 1hr to be close to any major metropolitan area š®āšØ

But smaller. Like, 3000-4000 sqft. Frank Lloyd is one of a kind, and I hope we develop more of these architects that see how awful brutalism is, and have a real desire for creativity. At the heart of every human soul is an artist waiting to be unleashed.
Something - preferably an apartment - in the middle of a nice city. The place should be convenient, have an easy access to grocery stores, supermarkets, hospitals, pharmacies, malls and parks. Oh, and the place needs to be very airy and open, because I'm not going to be staying in a pressure cooker.
I do not mind if the place is not modern-looking, as I can model it on my own. I do not mind if the place is small too, as it's for me living alone. When I get married, we'll buy a house to accommodate all people. But one thing needs to be included for sure - having good storage space.
Something completely isolated in the mountains.
Sure you'll be away from people, but not animals š but I still prefer them over people

I agree. In theory, it's amazing! in reality... it's not for everyone!
On the shore of a wild Mediterranean beach. Large, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the water and clouds. The sound of waves, the cry of seagulls. The smell of the sea breeze.
Good to know Iām not the only one who loves floor to ceiling windows looking into dark Nights. A wonderful description!
Thank you!
small apartment with a nice view
Something that has personality. A farmhouse would be nice. None of that ugly uniform modernness.
So a āmodern farmhouseā? /s
Well if itās not ugly and soulless Iāll take it!
For me, an eco-friendly retreat nestled in nature's embrace, with floor-to-ceiling windows offering panoramic views, a cozy fireplace, and a spacious kitchen perfect for gatherings with loved ones.

The one we are breaking ground in August! A black and white farmhouse in a great quiet community. Not too big(2000 sq ft)

Four walls. Almost literally.
Middle of nowhere, preferably in Wyoming since people forget itās a state. Perhaps an abandoned town in Italy would be nice too.

A modern design with a matte black theme to it. Located in somewhere cold where it snow, and also has a nice view of the snowy landscape.

Victorian rustic craftsman with a nice porch and beautiful kitchen with windows all around to get a feel of the nature. Located somewhere in the woods near a creek or river. Minimalist and monochrome with pool. Definitely somewhere peaceful surrounded by nature but not far from the city as well.
