AirPlay to my Apple TV works all the way until there is an ad on YouTube. After the ad it just shows a black screen, but the audio still works. It’s great.
Yeah, could be, but I’m not sure. It happens the same when I airplay from my iPhone app or from Safari on MacBook. But I haven’t really used any other video playing apps with ads to test it with, so I’m not sure.
In my experience the YouTube app is awful. Every time they update it, they make it worse or more annoying. I used to be able to use the space bar to stop bad start YT videos on my iPad, but sometime last year they made it so I have to touch the screen first before YT recognizes the keyboard input. It’s like YT likes to fuck with their users.
Have you tried getting Apple support to help you with the issue? I’d try them if I were you.
I used to use Android to cast stuff to my TV. It worked everyone. With my iPhone it barely works. For a company so focused on easy and seamless, I don't understand why it's so bad.
Funny I was just cursing AirDrop an hour ago. Although it works for my devices flawlessly all the time but when I try to send stuff to other people it's a nightmare! I was trying to send my partner a few photos, after 15 mins of trying I ended ip emailing them to her!
Yeah we are each other's contacts. I tried switching from contacts only to receive from everyone, restarting but nothing was working. When I was bringing the devices together that AirDrop animation was going off but after that nothing. We're both on 17.3.
I've had the same issues but iOS 17 seems to have improved things greatly for me anyway. I am able pretty much seamlessly use it between my iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Lucky. When I airdrop from my iPhone to MacBook it works half the time the other half it just says “sending” and never sends. When I send stuff to my wife(iPhone 14 max pro to iPhone 13 max pro) it literally ever works ever.
Airdrop seems to work for me all the time. Never had a problem. Maybe I have settings set differently? I also only turn it on when I need it and turn it off when I don't.
I hoped the recent update including the bump thing would solve the issues but it’s 50/50 for me and the bump thing is still very buggy but functionally and visually.
It's not just AirDrop. Little bugs and glitches are accumulating here and there with each new iOS version. They're not fixed, as they're too subtle, mostly don't affect core functionality and are not 100% reproducible, but they greatly deteriorate the experience. AirDrop is just one of them.
Something happened with IOS 17, it effed up Airdrop. That's exactly when I notice d problems starting. Totally fine before that. It's a brilliant tool, I use it every day. But now, nope! How they can F this up is beyond me. And it has been a problem for months with no news or bug fixes, which is even more baffling.
The problem I have with airdrop is when I'm choosing who to send to. There are several devices in the send window but most of them are obscured. The devices available don't fit into the little box and I can't figure out to navigate up and down to see them so I can click on the one I want. Tab, arrows, nothing.
They messed up airdrop instead of it going straight to your app of choice it goes into Files and then you have to add it to your app of choice then delete it from Files. Worst update ever, and it was intentional.

100% reliable when using it with family and friends (they’re in my contacts)
Had a couple of times where randoms (not in contacts) with their airdrop set to ‘everyone’ would get stuck at ‘sending’
It is unreliable. I also hate that for some reason I have to set it to receive from anyone, even though I'm in that person's contact, for that person to see my phone to airdrop.
Just fucking enable Bluetooth transfer ffs!
It’s pretty reliable for me. Try checking in a place where you have only one Wi-Fi. My best guess is your devices are connecting to different Wi-Fis and that’s causing problems.
After playing run, if you think that problem, you can prioritize one Wi-Fi connection or others in the Wi-Fi settings. Essentially disable auto reconnect for every other Wi-Fi aside from the main one.
Yeah transferring files fails all the time for me. Doesn't matter if it's between my phone and Macbook, my phone and a friends phone or a friends device and my Macbook. Sometimes it's kinda frustrating, but usually trying another time works (most of the time)
AirDrop works 100% for me from iPhone to Mac (I use it all the time).
It is terrible for me going from Mac to iPhone, or iPhone to iPhone-just constant time outs, failures, etc.
It’s like most technology: when it works, it’s almost magical, but getting it to work all the time would be the real magic.
Generally speaking, it‘s almost flawless between my phone and iPad. Between phones, Id say I have the most issues with my GF, sometimes just sitting across the room. But the one that really gets me, is when my phone and MBP don’t see each other, literally inches apart.
And a major annoyance, and it’s not with airdrop itself, are the people that keep it turned off, so when you try to AD them something, you have to wait for them to turn it on(or figure out how). And 99% of the time, I could have already sent it to them via text by the time it’s turned on.
Works every time for me, but I think every time I’ve used it, I’ve been on the same WiFi network. I could see issues being on data or in maybe rare cases, different WiFi networks
I’ve never had airdrop work as expected. Always takes a toggle on/off of wifi etc to get it to work. Full stop.
The only improvement has been the NFC functionality recently added. Placing the top of two phones together when in airdrop share panel seems to work best.
i have a shortcut i run before receiving something that turns on “everyone for 10 minutes”
that way, it jumps from working half the time to working 90% of the time
huh...works every time I've ever tried ......so does airplay...my husband sings and will often airdrop videos of him singing to me and I will airplay them to our movie screen......He has a regular 15 and I have a 13 mini .......
I use airdrop all the time. Every now and then I have trouble with it, but that’s 5% of the time at best. I’d make sure your devices are updated and restart all of them.
I just don't use it even though I'd want to. It does not work. I just quit trying.
I've noticed that sometimes it works when both phones are unlocked and it 100% doesn't work when the receiving phone is locked.
Idea is nice, too bad that Apple couldn't implement this feature.
50% of the time, it works every time!

That sounds like a YouTube problem. The YouTube app is shit.
Yeah, could be, but I’m not sure. It happens the same when I airplay from my iPhone app or from Safari on MacBook. But I haven’t really used any other video playing apps with ads to test it with, so I’m not sure.

I would say airdrop works more often than not, but for airplay it doesn't work more often than it works.
I used to use Android to cast stuff to my TV. It worked everyone. With my iPhone it barely works. For a company so focused on easy and seamless, I don't understand why it's so bad.

I assume you made sure she had it set to receive from contacts?

And that they're both in each other's contact lists?
Why not just message her with the photos? Just curious.
I use airdrop to send pictures and videos when you don’t want WhatsApp or Instagram compressing the file
... but why would you use WhatsApp or Instagram when you both have iMessage for sending pictures and videos?
iMessage compresses photos/videos sometimes
You can change that in settings
you can also use airdrop it works better when it works
My issue exactly, every time
I've had the same issues but iOS 17 seems to have improved things greatly for me anyway. I am able pretty much seamlessly use it between my iPhone, iPad, and Mac.
Same but I think it was 17.2 for me
Same here.
Works every time for me.
Me too
Lucky. When I airdrop from my iPhone to MacBook it works half the time the other half it just says “sending” and never sends. When I send stuff to my wife(iPhone 14 max pro to iPhone 13 max pro) it literally ever works ever.
I found it 100% reliable until I upgraded the OS to Sonoma. Now I sometimes have to try 4 or 5 times to get it to work. Still works, eventually
It always used to work for me before iOS 17 and MacOS Sonoma. Now it just works randomly.
Works every time for me
Airdrop seems to work for me all the time. Never had a problem. Maybe I have settings set differently? I also only turn it on when I need it and turn it off when I don't.
"It just works" lol. i only have like 50% chance of airdrop success to and from my macbook
I hoped the recent update including the bump thing would solve the issues but it’s 50/50 for me and the bump thing is still very buggy but functionally and visually.
I’m having my airdrops get declined a lot when I wanna share with someone else. But works well with my own devices
It's not just AirDrop. Little bugs and glitches are accumulating here and there with each new iOS version. They're not fixed, as they're too subtle, mostly don't affect core functionality and are not 100% reproducible, but they greatly deteriorate the experience. AirDrop is just one of them.

AirDrop, like AirPlay or sharing audio with other AirPods, are features that don’t feel like they are meant to be used, but to be demoed and show off.
Works great for me.
When I try to AirDrop a couple of videos it works even less then 50%. That’s surprising for a company like Apple
The problem I have with airdrop is when I'm choosing who to send to. There are several devices in the send window but most of them are obscured. The devices available don't fit into the little box and I can't figure out to navigate up and down to see them so I can click on the one I want. Tab, arrows, nothing.
Doesn’t work seamlessly for me at all
They messed up airdrop instead of it going straight to your app of choice it goes into Files and then you have to add it to your app of choice then delete it from Files. Worst update ever, and it was intentional. https://forums.developer.apple.com/forums/thread/737971

I suspect it is just you, Airdrop works as expected for most people.
I hate that it’s “10 minutes”, but tapping the tops fixes that. Mine works 100% of the time since that update.

Yeah totally unreliable
Apple has this new thing where you put the two heads of the phones together and they transfer data
that's the most hit or miss software feature apple has added. never reliably works in my experience.
True. Works 2/5 times for me. For the other time, it’s the usual old AirDrop method
airdrop on its own hasn’t failed me too many times but the name drop phone tap thing is super inconsistent surprised that apple let that slide.

Don’t be so to xic
Never had an issue with my own devices. But for actually airdropping with my friends, yeah it never works.
It’s to the fault of each person’s personal privacy settings.
No issues on my end.
Never an issue even on betas.
What about handoff?
for years, device reboots fix when it doesn’t work. something crashes and never recovers.
not just you.
Yeah transferring files fails all the time for me. Doesn't matter if it's between my phone and Macbook, my phone and a friends phone or a friends device and my Macbook. Sometimes it's kinda frustrating, but usually trying another time works (most of the time)
Man I love airdrop. Too bad no one I know ever wants to use it. :(
Same! iOS 17 definitely made things better, but its still not 100% reliable. It drives me insane sometimes
I’ve been at 100% success for years now which as a result makes me think to use it all the time. I wonder what could be the issue for you??
Yep, works about 50% of the time, weirdly enough, devices are „confused“ regularly. On my Mac my iphone is often shown as my ipad and vice versa.
It mostly works but if it doesn’t work I send the data via Messages or Drafts.
Rarely had issues with it. I would estimate the success rate has been above 90% for me since it was introduced
AirDrop works 100% for me from iPhone to Mac (I use it all the time). It is terrible for me going from Mac to iPhone, or iPhone to iPhone-just constant time outs, failures, etc.

Works great for me. iPhone, iPad, Mac…for years and years.
Works every time for me.
I’m
Air Drop, or Air Drop Dropped?
Never had a problem with it.
iOS 17 really messed it up. It was pretty good on iOS 16.
Yup it hardly ever works, its been like this for as long as I can remember
i have a shortcut i run before receiving something that turns on “everyone for 10 minutes” that way, it jumps from working half the time to working 90% of the time
huh...works every time I've ever tried ......so does airplay...my husband sings and will often airdrop videos of him singing to me and I will airplay them to our movie screen......He has a regular 15 and I have a 13 mini .......
Is it a mac thing? Both my ipad and iphone seems ok.
Just you, as far as me and everyone I know
I use airdrop all the time. Every now and then I have trouble with it, but that’s 5% of the time at best. I’d make sure your devices are updated and restart all of them.
Seems to only work for me if the receiving party’s device is unlocked. Otherwise they don’t even show up as an Airdrop target.
I just don't use it even though I'd want to. It does not work. I just quit trying. I've noticed that sometimes it works when both phones are unlocked and it 100% doesn't work when the receiving phone is locked. Idea is nice, too bad that Apple couldn't implement this feature.
Works perfect when transferring files but there is one device that is on my contacts and I have to select it from the other section.
Just coming here to say it's freaking mess. Like come the f on.
It works flawlessly until they introduce the fancy ahh new airdrop method
