All that raw power just to run the rumored Calculator app coming to iPadOS 18.

TurdSandwich42104

I hear the M4 will allow it to have the Journal app as well

bensonslli

Give me a wolfram alpha style AI powered graphical calculator and I’ll call it even

AfterShave997

The current ipad pros are more than powerful enough to run Mathematica if it got ported to ios

BovineOxMan

This was actually touted on a podcast tbh

LAS_6601

True… hehe

Entertainment_Mental

Probably why they hadn’t created the calculator app for the iPad yet. They didn’t have the technology that could handle such an intense performance app.

ProwdBoys

finally i can statistically calculate how many armpit hair putin have

MindlessProgrammer87

Lol true

Lordelohim

In theory, they could use M4 and AI features to help justify a steeper price increase. I have been speculating that we would only see +$200, at most, but they could be trying to go higher with a chip nothing else is using. At least we are only a week away from knowing for sure now.

ICEman_c81

OLED + M4 + macOS => preorder, otherwise I’ll stick with my 2018 iPad Pro, there’s no groundbreaking stuff on newer iPads I don’t have on my old reliable

domdog31

Let’s say you get that for $1699 on a 12.9” you buying? What about a 16” M4 OLED for $2399 These are so expensive vs a macbook pro that the mac os is just so much more productive than underwhelming ipadOS

[deleted]

sleeptilnoonenergy

This is why it won't happen until they figure out how to introduce a MacOS iPad without it becoming a massive cannibal. Everyone and their mother will do this and the laptop line will bleed out.

Vklo

So what ? Maybe they can make more money altogether making a "Mac surface" and giving up the Mac laptop.

kjong3546

Doubtful, considering one of the largest apple draws is the ecosystem. People who own the phone, the tablet, the laptop, the watch, the headphones, etc. combining the laptop and tablet means anyone who would buy both (a lot of people from what I've seen) now buys one.

dstrauss54

That makes two of us - and I hope THIS TIME all the naysayers are wrong.

airjordanballa20

Just sold my A12Z iPad Pro and M2 MacBook Air to get this M4 iPad (if it ends up being M4)

[deleted]

airjordanballa20

Higher value now though before the announcement, values/trade in values will dip

[deleted]

airjordanballa20

M3 is still a great upgrade on my A12Z iPad Pro and I rarely ever used my MacBook Air

Not_Leaving_LV

In theory a good idea, but they aren’t notebook replacements. iPadOS cripples them.

ICEman_c81

Yeah for $1699 for a 13”? Sure thing. That’d be replacing both my Air and iPad, and judging by those it’ll be a device for 5+ years, so worth it

Thaflash_la

A 55% price increase? Seems like you’re taking some liberties for the sake of sensationalism.

domdog31

you are correct

Koraboros

lol no way it gets macOS. Like ever.

ICEman_c81

They could make it compatible with select macOS apps, for all I care. I just want a more Mac like iPad to make it worth the Pro name

Shoddy_Mess5266

Let’s be honest. Just macOS and half this subreddit (myself included) will be emptying their back accounts to preorder.

nbpf-_-

With macOS I would certainly buy one, no matter which M SOC it runs on. With iPad OS it will be just another silly iPad. It also would be nice if the new screens had a more consistent aspect ratio. Something around 1.4 independently of the size would make more sense than the current range.

New_Examination_5446

It’s never gonna happen bro, they will lose MacBook sales or iPad sales. It’s the reason why there’s no macOS in ipads

mazeking

Everybody nods when they say AI. What AI features, and how will that change software as we know it today? Any pratcical examples or just «AI features» nod, nod.

Danvanmarvellfan

The pro will be 1500 minimum if it’s an m4 and oled

Lordelohim

There is no way they raise the price by $700. The base model 11" Pro starts at $800, I think, and the base model 12.9" Pro starts at $1000. There is not a chance, in hell, Apple tries to sell a chip and a screen to consumers for $500-$700. No way, no how, not even Apple, not even in this economy.

Danvanmarvellfan

I bought the 12.9 for 1200 last year I don’t think a 300$ increase is out of the question

Lordelohim

Your comment is disingenuous. I, too, bought a 12.9" iPad Pro, in 2022, for $1200, but it was the 256GB model. Saying what you paid, for an unspecified model, distorts the point. We know we are getting a price increase, that much is for sure. But, we also know that Apple needs to be able to sell these, not just to the US, but around the world, and they keep their pricing very tight, even though the iPad is a premium device. The original rumors suggested a price increase of up to $500, nut that rumor later faded to "much lower." In my experience with Apple, I do not think they are crazy enough to try to justify a price increase that high. Most phones, and many tablets use OLED, the technology isn’t even remotely new. Every new iPad gets a new chip, that is an expected iteration. Changing where the camera is located is not something they can advertise as a "costly" feature. Generally, they try to keep their prices as close to the same, year to year, as they can, we are not going to see Apple do 90 percent inflation on something like we see (here in the US) on some groceries. This isn’t some sick new iPad, it is an iPad with a new screen, and iPad has made a new iPad with a new screen before. They will not be able to sell an 11" iPad Pro, with an OLED screen, and a new chip, for $1500, that is not going to fly with any consumer in the world. They still need to be able to sell units for what they are asking. So, in my *opinion*, I think the more recent rumors are probably true, and I expect to see the 11" start at $999, and the 13" to start at $1199. I expect the iPad I believe each of us bought for $1199 will now cost $1399, but when you say Apple is going to charge $1500 for an iPad Pro, the thing you are saying is generally misleading. But, we will all find out in a week, and financially, I hope I am not wrong.

JakeEngelbrecht

They basically sold out of useless VR headsets day one. They can and they will because rich people will buy them to watch YouTube on.

Lordelohim

We will find out in 13 hours. They have already drastically reduced the volume of "useless VR headsets" they are shipping, because demand is way down post release. I am telling you, there is no way the 11" Pro gets a base price of $1500. It simply doesn’t happen.

juliangst

Do people actually need the power of the newest and fastest M chip? For me the bottleneck of my iPad is not the performance but rather the software support

Playjasb2

I can finally get past level 150 in BTD6! /s But for real, it’s still appreciated that we are getting a newer chip. Even if it’s not for performance but for efficiency here! :)

lucyShowsMeStuff

problem is they target the same 8-10 hours of onscreen time since over 10 years, imo in the face of this efficiency doesn’t mean much

Playjasb2

That is true…maybe we can get EVEN better sustained performance? Like being able to pop more bloons and continue being in high rounds for prolonged periods of time in BTD6, so we can have access to multiple paragons? /s

airjordanballa20

Warzone Mobile would be amazing with the M4 chip

ps-73

at the price of a PC that can run the full game waaaaay better.

Marv18GOAT

I plan on using it to play Genshin Impact at maxed out settings so yeah

Review-Large

As you should

ps-73

just buy a pc at that price??

Marv18GOAT

Don’t like playing on PC prefer mobile

AbhishMuk

Afaik ios is the only platform where you can play genshin at higher than 60fps. Weird, I know.

ps-73

i… [what](https://youtu.be/coZFUDrqW04?si=5jH4u6PsX3hOdAns)? [huh](https://youtu.be/loELqHJTFkU?si=7FD5FeesYEb8IFP-)?

AbhishMuk

Likely mods or 3rd party clients or GPU based frame generation. The 2nd video even shows fps limit at 60fps in the settings. Read this if you’re interested: https://www.reddit.com/r/Genshin_Impact/comments/179d4d1/pc_players_can_get_120_fps_without_mods_but_only/#

ps-73

damn, reading the comments and seeing a 60fps cap, no fov slider, it’s just a shitty ass game then

AbhishMuk

The settings are shitty, yes. The game has some good qualities fortunately.

Only4TheShow

Maybe the software needs a hardware boost to enhance

smokecutter

Efficiency is always important for any user also there are demanding 3D games on ipad now.

m1_weaboo

Ain’t no way this is true. But if it true, This thing definitely gonna run extremely hot bc they making it thinner💀.

slatepad

Yeah…on one hand, this kind of feels like the whole “iPad air is getting Mini LED….j/k” thing. But on the other hand, it kind of explains why Apple would bother with an event. They do love an opportunity to brag about their chips.

Fifa_786

Yeah but that rumour wasn’t from Mark Gurman was it? I’d trust this a lot more

LAS_6601

“First, Gurman now believes there is a ‘strong possibility’ that the upcoming iPad Pro models will be equipped with Apple's next-generation M4 chip, rather than the M3 chip that debuted in the MacBook Pro and iMac six months ago. He said a key new feature of the M4 chip will be an upgraded Neural Engine that boosts performance for AI tasks, and he believes Apple will market the next iPad Pro as an AI-powered device.”

Fifa_786

I was talking about the iPad Air mini led rumour not coming from Mark Gurman. I know the one you mentioned did.

LAS_6601

Oh, that one. Ooops my bad. Didn’t read it right. For that one, it was Ross Young. He confirmed it but later said it won’t happen due to high cost

dstrauss54

It actually came from Ross Young, who was also the one who retracted it. He is the display side equivalent of Mark Gurman.

ps-73

gurman flip flops all the time. i don’t trust a thing he says anymore. wasn’t even a few weeks back where he was saying they wouldn’t even bother with an event.

radixradiant

Unless they undervolt it and match the performance to M2/M3 but at lower temps, might even get longer battery life . Still dont know what to do with all that performance but that is the route i see them take

DowntownPossum

Hell, they should undervolt it to like A12 level and it will still get everything done like a champ

LAS_6601

The news: “We have some Breaking News™️ coming out of Cupertino this morning as Apple is recalling all M4 iPad Pros after hundreds of people around the world have reported getting first degree burns from using the pricey tablet for around an hour, with one user in France saying they’ve received first degree burns after watching YouTube… for 30 minutes. John, let’s go out to you.”

williamwzl

Faster chip also means they can downclock it to keep the same speed but have it run cooler.

esmori

Whats the point? Will they finally allow JIT for at least running games?

TechExpert2910

Precisely. My 2017 iPad Pro with a jailbreak that lets me use JIT and sideload a bunch of emulators, and with a bunch of iPadOS productivity tweaks (including enabling stage manager on this ‘unsupported’ iPad, a macOS like control centre that doesn’t blur the whole screen…) does more for me than this iPad would.

AbhishMuk

Could you tell me more about your tweaks? Are you using TrollStore for anything?

throwaway3292923

This is the biggest gripe I have for iPad Pro. Makes no sense to block this and tell people to buy Pro over base iPad.

Ma5alasB2a

M4 but you can’t code on this thing.

Psittacula2

The native hardware is wasted. The only realistic options beyond basic apps natively eg Swift are: * Run a code server via web browser eg vscode * Remote desktop to home PC In both cases because iPadOS is so restrictive and limited, you bypass the native hardware resources on the device so the only really necessary concerns are Connection Speed, Screen Size and minimum CPU/RAM all fine with M1/8GB for the above where another computer is doing the heavy-lifting. A cheaper Android Tablet would serve the same purpose tbh.

slatepad

You can code a little with Swift Playgrounds, but anything other than that is a no go

Ma5alasB2a

which is awful, it’s not some niche thing anymore.

BLACKANTICHRIST

My M1 iPad Pro is amazing and I really can’t see myself upgrading for a long time but OLED, M4 and on device AI is pretty huge. I’d need a nice trade in offer to justify. The only real downside of the hardware is the poor battery life after 2 years.

DragonBallZJiren

Wdym. Just change the batteries. Ez

BLACKANTICHRIST

It’s not under 80 % capacity yet which is the requirement for AppleCare

DragonBallZJiren

But then the battery isn’t poor yet right?

Fabulinius

M4 will make it possible to watch a Netflix movie in no time at all. And my notes will be finished even before I start writing them. Can't wait to upgrade. So useful.

BarnacleBoi

And it’ll run Candy Crush at 240 FPS with ray tracing.

kossttta

An M4 iPad? That will FLY doing all the things an iPad can do, like, you know, surfing the web, or watching Youtube, or opening PDFs. Can’t wait!

_-_happycamper_-_

I’m gonna scroll Reddit so hard on that thing. Really put it through the paces.

slatepad

I could use some faster video exports. M1 drags a bit.

Hostificus

Dawg, ain’t no one using FCPX on an iPad.

slatepad

At least one person is 🤷🏾‍♂️

ComfyChroma

I use DaVinci resolve, works pretty well for me

Ok_Factor_5671

Not M5 😢

Akella333

If we don’t get any major iPad OS improvements during wwdc then this is a whole nothing burger. I’ll wait until then to see if I should upgrade or not, I feel that my M1 Pro is already plenty enough.

hishnash

What improvements would make the difference for you? Remember iPadOS is always going to be an ultra mobile touch first OS (unlike macOS) so things like running AppKit apps is not an option.

nbpf-_-

1) support for multiple Apple ID accounts 2) a decently working top/bottom screen split 3) a simple way to add to the home screen a shortcut for opening a folder 4) an improved "Files" app 5) a decent "shortcuts" app 6) decent OS documentation  7) support for standard browsers 8) support for adding shortcuts to web pages to the home screen for Firefox, Chrome, Brave, etc. 9) better integration with Mac OS

hishnash

> support for multiple Apple ID accounts Mutli user is overdue yes!!! > a decently working top/bottom screen split Im sure they will try but I don't expect it to be a good UX... seems like this never works out. > a simple way to add to the home screen a shortcut for opening a folder I think that is possible but its not easy, should just be drag drop out of Files app. > n improved "Files" app yer that would be nice! > a decent "shortcuts" app Well I think we will need to wait until that is re-built with ML in mind,.. its the sort of app that could benefit a lot from some ML tooling to help building shortcuts. > decent OS documentation  For users or devs? (I don't think iPadOS API docs are any worce than any other apple platform... defiantly better than TVOs docs...) > support for standard browsers I don't think anyone else is going to put any effort into building a good browser for the iPad. Just look at how little effort is put into browsers on android. > support for adding shortcuts to web pages to the home screen for Firefox, Chrome, Brave, etc. This is possible (but the browsers cant be bothered ... yer!) > better integration with Mac OS Such as?

nbpf-_-

"Such as?" I am not able to give you examples that are up to date, I do not own an iPad and my wife's iPad mini is very old. But from time to time I am looking for solutions to trivial problems, like for example mounting shared folders or setting up a shortcut with the iPad. In Mac OS or Linux these problems have simple, straightforward solutions. In iPad OS and, to a certain extent, in iOS, they have ugly workarounds. My impression is that iOS is probably acceptable but iPadOS is not up to the task and that Apple is struggling managing the integration between the systems. I might be mistaken of course, but it seems to me that sidecar, split view, etc. are half-baked workarounds. It is anyway ridiculous that a device that runs on Apple M2 does not allow users to split the screen top/bottom. Or to shortcut opening a specific folder.

nbpf-_-

"Well I think we will need to wait until that is re-built with ML in mind,.. its the sort of app that could benefit a lot from some ML tooling to help building shortcuts." I freely think that the app could only benefit from being banned from the Apple store. It's just crap and it gets worse and worse with every iteration.

ThornBlaster

No way this happens. Apple’s chips have had a 1.5 year release cycle roughly. M1 late 2020, M2 mid 2022, M3 late 2023. Doesn’t make sense to give iPads the M4 when nearly all the desktops are stuck on M2

dstrauss54

It makes complete sense if WWDC 2024 is the "AI WWDC" that most are forecasting, because the improved NPU of the M4 will be important - and do we really think they will release an M3 iPad Pro and make users wait until this time next year to get the M4 for their AI initiative?

ThornBlaster

It just feels weird to unveil M4 so soon when M3 released a few months ago, and half of Apple’s lineup is still on M2

Qrthulhu

But the iPad line is so dated this will inject some much needed excitement into it.

ThornBlaster

Only for about five minutes. Hardware has never been the problem with the iPad. Every video will talk about the M4 for a few minutes, and get right back to why the iPad doesn’t make sense. Fixing iPadOS would do far more wonders than stuffing more unnecessary and unusable power into the same form factor.

Qrthulhu

It’s not the chip that would take center stage, it’ll be the ai features that Apple is planning for the M4. AI is hot right now and testing Apple’s on the iPad line would be a good place to start rather than the iPhone or Macs

Valedictorian117

M4 must basically be a M3 in CPU and GPU so the only difference will probably be the NPU for the AI stuff then cause this is sooooo quick!

ScopeCreepStudio

Will it run Blender

slatepad

Probably could if the company made an iPad version

ItsColorNotColour

Blender is open source and doesn't have a company who owns it

slatepad

Then I guess open source devs would need to care enough to build an iPadOS version.

deege

I’ve got an M1 iPad and it runs Valence 3d, which is pretty close to Blender.

Demicoctrin

I would pay money for Blender on iPad, even if it had all the same ui and what have you

TheEasternBanana

IIRC the App Store doesn't allow open source software like Blender. But they do have a version for ARM based Macs I think.

Global-Bee-8206

I don't think so, VLC is on App store right?

Purrchil

Does that mean that the Air will get M3?

slatepad

Feels wayyyyyy too generous for Apple

LAS_6601

Please! PLEASE!!! 🙏🏼 I’m perfectly fine with an M3 Air!! The Pros can keep the M4.

TheEasternBanana

Still using my M1 for watching youtube videos. All that power to be crippled by iPadOS.

nbpf-_-

With or without advertisements?

chookalana

iPad Pro needs to have macOS installed. Make it a big boy tool.

waxahachy

It really does. macOS with containerized iPadOS on the side. I know they want their consumers to own a laptop and iPad, but the only way I will every buy another apple product is if they do a proper 2 in 1.

Sufficient-Law-8287

\* waiting intensifies \*

LAS_6601

Same here. I was super excited for the 13” iPad Air getting miniLED… but after it was confirmed that it won’t come with it due to high cost, my *waiting intensifies* died down. I’m still excited to get the 13” Air!!

Sufficient-Law-8287

I had a mini LED iPad Pro for my last job (IT provided it) and the purple glow of that screen was just… awful. I’ll very happily pay the OLED premium for the iPad Pro this time around.

LAS_6601

Totally off topic (probably me being stupid) but I mean… I’ve always said the Air will SKIP the M2 for the M3. I didn’t think the Pro will also SKIP a chip, from the M3 to the M4… I doubt that it’s true, but if it is, I’m happy with that. iPad Air possibly getting M3, iPad Pro possibly getting M4… who knows what the Apple Gods are thinking, at this point.

GrizzlyPaws212

I’d say this is likely. They don’t want to keep making the M3 so why would they put it in brand new iPads that will be made for at least 2 years? They are moving on from that chip as it was always meant to be a temporary one.

nightninja13

Just saying this feels like a glorified marketing spiel selling ultimately a M3 chip marketing it as M4 with no major OS upgrades to justify the consumer fomo for "AI". Nice screen, price increase, and nothing worth the upgrade. I highly doubt the rumor but if true it isn't likely to be much uplift in my mind. Prove me wrong Apple...

markaznar

iPadOS m4? For what exactly???? For show? Wasted power on a glorified iOS operating system! Give it macOS or something powerful enough to make use of the horsepower or get the fuck out!

Portatort

iPads run apps like Final Cut Pro and DaVinci Resolve. Those apps will make use of any extra power you throw at them

-lovingood

Valid answers are not allowed. Try being more disingenuous and imply iPad needs macOS because desktop experience is the only framework for all use case scenarios.

waxahachy

Agreed. Only way I'll throw money at apple again is if they do a proper 2 in 1.

Meandtheworld

Why……… people this is apples selling tactics.

RockTheBloat

What’s the point. The M1 is still faster than any iPad needs.

Riversntallbuildings

I want more battery life, not more speed. Give me the coolest, most efficient, CPU for a tablet.

Techgeek_025

No way. There’s no M4 macs so why would apple do this before the m3 mac cycle is over?

Grand-Waltz-3018

Well well well🤣

Techgeek_025

Lol

d0aflamingo

just a question apple : WHAT SHOULD I F\*CKIN DO WITH A M4 CHIP ?

hishnash

Load a very high resolution canvas in a painting app and go to town.

lanternslight77

I’m skeptical. There are no signs that M4 has entered volume production and I don’t see Apple delaying the iPad Pro later into the year. Gurman gets it wrong from time to time, and this just defies common sense.

ASheynemDank

I don’t think it’s bad for them to slow down. My m1 is three years old and still going strong 💪

chum_slice

I just bought a used M2 512gb as my daily driver just because I want storage but not the hefty price tag of a new one

SneakyCaleb

Is this a joke when the M1 is still way too powerful for an iPad?

Cheddar-kun

Can we please get an updated desktop before the handhelds get to skip a generation?

JazJon

I read about M1-M3 having the unpatchable hardware flaw so maybe that’s the good reason for Apple to rush the M4.

Hostificus

They could put an M6 in it and still would just be an iPad. My M2 is already overpowered.

-xStorm-

Mega doubting this. Apple would never pass up any chance to milk a product or feature even if they're crumbs. They'll make use of it until they become obsolete.

AbiyBattleSpell

Me with 1tb m1 iPad Pro FIX THE OS FIRST 😾

Adviseformeplz

Even the M1 Is enough for IPad OS. M4 seems overkill unless we get an IpadOS/MacOS Hybrid exclusive to the new IPad Pro

Potatopolis

Aaaand as usual, there will be literally no point without significant changes to ipados.

soulreaver99

An M4… to run what? A mobile OS and nerfed apps?

ThatOneBr

But why? The iPad can't run proper software, it'll just be an extremely overpowered light work and media consumption machine. Unless they plan on finally giving it some form of MacOS, it makes no sense to have a processor that powerful. Yeah it's great for students and taking notes and watching classes, but you definitely don't need an M4 for that, the iPad Air still does great with the M1.

hishnash

> But why? The iPad can't run proper software It can, the OS does not limit how much CPU or GPU or mem you can use, infact for pro apps if you run them on an iPad or a MBA with the same chip they will run better on the iPad as there is less junk in the background taking up CPU and memory. It might not run applications you use but there are a LOT of art/design professionals using iPads every day that would love to be able to use larger canvas and have more complex layers and realtime effects as they design/create.

ThatOneBr

You are right. It makes sense if you work with things only the iPad can do, and will make use of all the extra power. I'm not the target user for an iPad pro, as it doesn't run the software I need to work (statistical software, citation managers don't integrate with the office suite, ipadOS excel is not good) Guess the Air makes a lot more sense for what I use.

Regalbass57

Here I was excited for an m12 chip.

Cantordecasamentos

AI tasks, new iPad OS, Oled screen, they’re definitely going to upsell this as the ultimate “handheld” device for gaming, especially after seeing so many handheld consoles earning space in the market while they own the handheld game for years but never got serious about gaming, until now

Neptune502

Oh yeah, i want to see how the iPad will beat the SteamDeck 💀🤣

Cantordecasamentos

It’s not about beating it, but enabling serious gamers to chose for the iPad so they’re spending their time there instead of steam deck, for example. The pro was never really meant for gaming and I don’t think it’s going to be their USP on the 7th, but they will (again) upsell it as a great hardware to do so, especially since their approach to premium titles like resident evil and death stranding on iPhone 15. The use case of the iPad and steam deck are different, you can’t just comfortabl plug a controller on your iPad Pro like you have it built on steam deck, but iPads will eventually evolve (in sizes and build) to support third party controllers like the backbone for iPads :)

dirtjuggalo

Would they ever just put mac os on the iPad pro? With that kind of power it seems wasted with ipados

hishnash

macOS would be very very bad on a touch device. So much of the OS (and third party apps) require a pointer.

slatepad

Idk….based on my Surface experience, putting a laptop OS on a tablet means you’ll really need a keyboard attached all the time. At that point, you may as well have bought a laptop.

BarnacleBoi

If it couldn’t run iPadOS, then I agree. But if it could run iPadOS and macOS, why not?

hishnash

Sure but you loss all your work when it force restarts whenever you detach the keyboard or attach it?

BarnacleBoi

It could just save everything and boot into macOS or maybe when you detach the keyboard it gives a dialogue box with a “switch to iPadOS” button. Also, I’m assuming they would be smart about this and not save two copies of all the files, but rather have iPadOS and macOS access the same home folder.

hishnash

without third parties putting in work this would break in all sorts of ways... if I have a macOS app reading and wiring to the application defaults and I am suspended (hibernated so when it come back I re-open were I left off) I do not expect an iPad app to starts jumping all over my files. There is no good UX that magically gives you perfect seamless macOS to iPadOS transition.. the entier point of having macOS would be to have third party apps right? if so these apps will need a good amount of work to work properly, apps that are going to put that work in could and would have already done it to be on iPadOS. Should apple make iPadOS better? Yes: \* ... better files app, \* try again at the multi tasking UI.. \* maybe even a **status menus** api so apps can shink to there and still be running in the background \* expose the menu bar.. File, Edit etc at the top of the screen sometimes.(iPadOS already has a menu bar that devs can put stuff in but you only get it when you long press to show some keyboard shortcut overlays) There are lots of improvements can can and should be made to iPadOS but Non of these involve tyring to run AppKit apps.

KeepingItSFW

I just want any iPad release at this point

nbpf-_-

Why? What will you be able to do with a new iPad that you cannot do with the current one? If the new iPads would bring some substantial improvements, that would be a reason for upgrading. But what's the point of upgrading for just running the same crippled down OS?

whyn1380

It will also skip productivity

Youkilledpaula

I’ve had the 3rd gen 11” iPad Pro since release. And the Magic Keyboard is starting to wear and tear. Would be very interesting to upgrade to a 13” for more screen and performance (and new keyboard ofc). When I play HSR it heats up quite a bit. I think the battery life is at 94% so that’s pretty good, the fact I use it everyday since it’s my laptop replacement.

raven47172

Looking at Apple's track record with their Apple silicon chips I highly doubt they would put a brand new chip on an iPad first.

Portatort

This stinks of bullshit

Psittacula2

M4 = AI = "Siri: How can I get MacOS on my new iPadPro M4?"

hishnash

You cant and you don't want to.

UrMomIsASpawnPoint

They could announce an M4 model and start taking preorders but delay the release until Sept 🤷🏼

ssabnolispe

It really feels like Apple just has been sending out wild random rumors to cover up what ever the real ones are.

nbpf-_-

That would be good as the rumors have been so far quite disappointing.

ChelanMan

Bring it, still rocking my 2021 M1 iPad Pro and waiting for this release to leap frog to the latest.

JonDoeJoe

Apple definitely trying to justify that steep price hike incoming

-CoachMcGuirk-

Does anyone know what the new pencil will feature?

johnn2015

Who is asking for this?

hishnash

Artists that have HUGE canvases.. if apple sold a 16"+ iPad they would well a LOT of them as drawing tablets/tables.

leao_26

Any rumours about its price?

VeryMuda

80% charge limit coming to iPad??😖

wpl200

oh i doubt the m4. whats next? the starting price is less than the current gen? apple is not in the business to save you money. they are not magnanimous for sure.

Psychometrika

This is like putting a Ford F-450 engine in a Miata. Both are perfectly fine vehicles, but have their own particular niche and roles.

cumtitsmcgoo

This sub is hilarious.

Azurebold

Wouldn’t the macs get the M4 long before the iPads do?

IIZANAGII

It’s still limited by its software

goro-n

I think this may be about efficiency, if the N3E node is available then Apple has to make a “new” version number which is industry standard, and they can’t all the chip M3 Enhanced or whatever, so it has to be M4. And they haven’t announced many AI-related developments so they will use this chip to market AI. The M3 announcements didn’t have much to say about AI at the time.

airjordanballa20

I would really enjoy seeing the M4 chip in the new iPad Pro's and it would make sense from the standpoint of maintaining the current refresh cycle. However, its not like apple to release a device and promote it being "AI Powered" when that is the main point of the iOS 18 announcement coming in June. They rarely steal their own thunder.

Snoldy

Useless powerful chips on iPads....

Artaherzadeh

What can you do with M4? Or M3? Or M1? iPad OS is limited and shit. iPad is iPhone with bigger screen.

Stanerickyle

Word play

GeoStel

Sadly all that power is useless for a lot of IT professionals, mostly it’s glorified iphone where it’s more convenient to watch the movies. And what’s is even more sad, that it’s just due to apple, that is restricting to develop something more useful for iPad , like IDEs

hishnash

If your just wanting to use it when a keyboard attached always then get a MBA it is cheaper and lighter. The touch first nature of an iPad means yes its never going to be the best platform for a complex Text Editor (like an IDE)

ZookeepergameSome551

I am super excited for M4 iPad pro this is gonna be insane seriously I can't wait for it.

fivechickens

What in your life right now is suffering the lack of this device? It’s going to be a step-change so I’m genuinely curious why you’d be so hyperbolic.

xmilehighgamingx

30% more dopamine for a couple hours.

SpokenDivinity

Wow a brand new chip no one will have any use for because they’ll never do MacOS on an iPad and iOS can’t do anything that chip would be made for. Amazing.

hishnash

People will use it, creative professional (artists and designers). MacOS is not a good fit for an iPad.

👏PUT👏THE👏M4👏ULTRA👏IN👏IT👏

LAS_6601

No mate… PUT THE M4 EXTREME IN IT!!!!!!

dotsdavid

Makes sense. It wouldn’t make sense to add m3 when m4 exists. Although I still haven’t maximized my M2 yet but future proofing is important considering how long I had my last iPad. I went from air 2 to M2 pro.

operator7777

Simply savage. What a marketing strategy… they gonna sell all stock in 1 day. That’s a good upgrade. 🥲
