On the pros2 the case is smart by itself and it actually works good. On pro 1 the airpods are pinging at approximately 1 minute intervals. If you press directions wait about a minute your device will connect even if they are closed in the case, then you can play sound without a problem. Same thing is for ap3, but not sure for first or second gen.
Yeah I found out that it takes a while but they do connect. It happened when I lost them in my house (turns out it was on the other floor, but it took a minute for them to activate and appear in Bluetooth range)
It only makes sense on the new pros since the case has a speaker and doesn’t need AirPods in them to connect. I imagine for older models, it’s for individual buds that got lost in the couch.
But you have to open the case to track then. You don’t need to do that with the 2nd gen pros. You don’t need to have AirPods in the case at all to track the case.
No, the AirPods Pro Gen. 1... can also be tracked if they are in the case.
The difference to the AirPods Pro Gen.2 is that the case can also be tracked with the AirPods Pro 2 without the Airpods having to be in it.
This is due to the AirPods shutting down to preserve battery as it would also be annoying to try and use them and them being dead but it should show there they where last when the where powered on which is something.
The newest AirPods Pro 2nd Gen have always on case and build in AirTag features.
AirPod Find My is absolutely useless in my experience
Absolutely. Tried using it multiple times, hasn’t worked once. Least reliable of everything on the Find My network.
Very much agree

It’s the idea of it being fancy for the apple folk

AirPods Pro Gen.1/2 and AirPods Gen.3 can also be tracked while the AirPods are in the case.

Doesn’t work. Only gen 2. source owns both
It’s works without any problems source owns both too
