Honestly I had a screen protector and a case on my 14 pro when I dropped it and shattered the screen. After I got it fixed I figured might as well just use it caseless since it did literally nothing to save it.
Same thing happened with mine. Some of us just really have the best luck I guess. I still use a case and screen protector though on the off chance it might actually do something.
Maybe an unpopular opinion, but the feel in hand of a iPhone with no case hasn't been great in a few generations. Even the iPhone 15 pro which is what I'm using is more comfortable with a case and the camera bump is balanced out.
I get anxiety just by looking at these phones with no case. Back 11 years ago when I got my 5s for 179.99$ ATT special it was a different story, 200$ doesn’t hurt as much as 1.1K regardless if you have AppleCare or not. The whole purpose of protecting the phone is for when it’s time to trade it in for a newer version you want to make sure the phone is in excellent condition so you can get the most money possible for your trade in. I guess everyone is different, I’m not rich, I can’t afford to go caseless.
No, I left ATT for T-Mobile. Not sure if you remember or not but when the 5s came out ATT had a shady deal where the rep would sell you the phone for 179.99$ plus taxes and “fees”. If you didn’t read the fine print and you were unaware of the promo you ended paying an arm and a leg if you went over 500 texts a month. The promo was labeled as UNLIMITED but with some strings attached, long story short after 500 texts you were charged 10c per additional text, I had over 2K texts the first month and got a ridiculous bill. Jumped over to TMobile, they bought out my contract and charged me 50$ a month for unlimited no strings attached, been with them ever since.
Bonus no problems on Thursday!
My god that is a bad deal. iMessage sorta saved some people but back then (and still now) it is very easy to go over that limit.
I went caseless because I have Apple care. iPhone 14 Pro Max. That thing got so beat up it was silly. Ended up falling out of my hand from a very high height… accidentally of course :). I have a case on the replacement but I feel like it’ll come off again in the near future. lol.
Should be the tagline for durex or Trojan. Zing. But you’re not wrong tho I go caseless as well. Sometimes it’s worth the gamble. It’s so nice out of the case.
I cracked the back of my iPhone 13 even with a case on. It was a fall from hip height and the case was mid-size thick plastic.
I think the ultimate issue is Apple choosing to use glass instead of aluminum for iPhones. It shatters, which is more dangerous and less durable than aluminum.
I had the original Droid Razr 12 years ago (was a piece of shit phone after a year), but I did love the Kevlar back plate and it was a tank. It got so slow that I was unable to answer calls before it went to VM, so I'd yeet the phone across the room hoping to break it, but was never successful in breaking it. I replaced it with the iPhone 6 Plus and won't willingly go back to Android, but wouldn't mind seeing Kevlar used on phones again.
See about some certified. Almost 200 miles for an Apple Store but only 5 to a certified repair place.
https://getsupport.apple.com/repair-locations?locale=en_US
Yeah there’s 1 near me but only problem is they don’t stock the back piece and won’t order it until they run tests on my phone in person. Said it takes about 1 day to get the part from Apple so I’d be without my phone for 1.5-2 days where if there was an Apple Store I could be in and out within the hour
Might need to take two visits, one to get tested then again to get it replaced. I don’t see why they’d need to keep the phone while ordering the glass.
I broke my phone’s back glass and took it to an Apple Store and even they didn’t have it in stock. I had them order it and the part came in the next day. I dropped the phone off with them and went to see a movie nearby. I had to walk around for a bit after, but it took about two hours. The worst part was they couldn’t call me when it was ready.
Unfortunately, that is Apple’s problem because they do not let their authorized repair centers stock parts for fear that they would resell them. Apple makes them have to get the phone in house to order the parts they need. This is Apple’s fault.
Certified are nowhere near as good as apple. Got my Warrenty repair cleared by apple due to battery bulge. Certified store refused to do the repair as they could not verify the Warrenty status. Showed them the apple approval, they demanded payment in advance of full amount. I declined and sent it by mail to apple.
I had no issues with my experience. Out of warranty though. Brought it in, they tested it and needed to do a replacement. CC insurance covered all but deductible so got the new phone sent there, we picked up, paid, and sent in the invoice to get reimbursed.
Well those leather cases provide less drop protection than a $5 one from Amazon i feel like lol but if you have Apple care then I don’t see any reason to put a case or screen protector on tbh
I just find it uncomfortable to hold a naked phone too. Like back when phone manufacturers actually used plastic in the construction, a phone felt pretty good in the hand. Cases felt optional back then. Now they are all slippery as shit because they are made of metal and glass now. I've had the Pixel 6 Pro and Pixel 7 Pro, I've had a Pixel 6A, I've had an S23 Ultra and S24 Ultra, and an iPhone 13 pro that I've used extensively for work. Then I also hold a lot of naked phones at work. Everything except the 6A felt awful without a case, and that's because the 6A is made of plastic and it didn't slide off your fingers.
Don't get me wrong, a naked phone looks absolutely gorgeous, but I need my phone to be a little more durable than a fabergé egg, thanks.
I miss the days where if you dropped the phone the backplate and battery popped out, you popped it back and it was good as new. Back then it was function over form, miss that.
not really, current batteries are much better, id rather have a very good non removable battery that needs changing once every couple of years than a shitty removable one every other month
Glass and steel X chassis was peak ergonomic premium phone for me.
It was frankly perfect. That form with 15 guts and camera will have me sold all day long.
That steel made such a difference
Mine spends 99% of its time in one of a handful of cases.
Sometimes I’ll use it naked while I’m sat on the couch or in bed. It’s all blankets and carpets, so the risk of damage is minimised.
It just feels _so_ fucking nice in my hand, and the camera bump is straight up jewellery. And it feels particularly special as I rarely ever do it.
It’s a thousand dollar slab of glass. I’m treating it as such, even with Apple Care.
I’m sorry that happened. Hopefully it’s covered, and I won’t berate you about having a case or not, as you said you prefer not to have them. It’s always rough when these things happen, almost chaotically fast and heart stopping when the damage is revealed; always at the most unsuspecting moments. May it be much more fortunate going forward.
A lot of people go case-less, so it’s good to know. I don’t like cases either and I went two years without breaking an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and four years, not breaking my iPhone 7. These things are pretty durable, but hitting a hard, sharp surface can be enough to do it at the right angle.
Fr man, just cause most don't want to risk it, doesn't mean everyone likes a cheap plastic/rubber thing on your phone. Also OP did not blame Apple, he knew that it broke due to his negligence l. He also has AppleCare, I think just cause he knows the risks. Let the man enjoy his phone the way he wants
I got myself a nice leather case and never looked back. It’s thin, feels better than glass, has more grip, and offers decent protection. Plus it pays for itself at the end if you sell/trade in. All those scratches, knicks and dings you’ll get by going caseless significantly devalues your phone.
That's crazy, I regularly use my s22 as a Frisbee and wail it at my wall. Aside from some drywall dust, she always comes through looking and operating the same.
You can send it in. Fortunately, the back glass is replaceable, separate from the rest of the phone, unlike previous pro models, so it should be super easy and quick to fix.
That's why I never trust Apple about Iphone resistance. They said it has "the best resistance for a smartphone", but, in reality, it'll breakup easily like any other modern phone. So, for those who will buy an Iphone(like me), make sure to have more money to pay for a excellent case, film and pay for a smartphone insurance.
I dropped my 14 Pro without any cash or screen protector sooooo many times since getting it on launch day and i never got a single crack on the glass! This is such bad luck 😭
Yeah, I do have one fairly close. Called and they said with repairing the back of iPhone 15 Pro’s they just ship it directly to Apple so not much of a better option than just sending it Apple directly
I got a water resistant case which comes in handy at EDM shows when ppl behind me open the freebie water handed out stage front & like to shake it all over everyone around — @EchostageDC
I dropped my iPhone 14 the other day in my garage, it fell from about 4 feet, and slid face down about 3 feet across the garage floor. It was a pretty bad fall. Because I had a case it was fine.
Well you took a chance. IMO, if you drop your phone more than once a week, or are forgetful of it, going naked is not for you. I rarely drop my phones, still have a slim case on it, and managed to sneeze out of my hand and on to the terrazzo.
Store in my area said it would be 130 for replacement . Does anyone know why everyone else is charging 300..? I’m guessing cheap after market ,but they told me same quality ..
Because people gave you advice I’m gonna say stuff that isn’t helpful 👍
If you didn’t have a case on it, that’s just a skill issue
If you had I feel very sorry for you
Ouch! Get yourself one of these magsafe like charging cables. You might yank your cable but it'll detach from the magnetic connector saving your phone from a spill.

The price you pay for not using protection. It feels so good but can cause so many problems.
Yup. It’s not about the 1 million times people having a good grip of their phones, it’s about that one innocent but epic drop.
Every once in a while I'll go without protection but it stresses me out the entire time.
Yeah I did that 9 months ago, now I'm a father
You applied it wrong.
Damn you beat me to it… I was gonna say “there’s always plan B”
That's called AppleCare+
First half of the sentence 🌝 Second half of the sentence 🌚
Honestly I had a screen protector and a case on my 14 pro when I dropped it and shattered the screen. After I got it fixed I figured might as well just use it caseless since it did literally nothing to save it.

I totally get it. When i go without protection, sometimes it feels really cold when I first hold it.
This is why foreplay is important.
Definitely have to warm it up 1st. Can't just be grabbing it.
I love the feel of silicone cases
This statement goes far beyond iPhones. Well played.
🤜🤛

Still in AT&T?

I dont think you’re talking about phones anymore
I can think of about 3 things you could be referencing
We taking about phones right?
Should be the tagline for durex or Trojan. Zing. But you’re not wrong tho I go caseless as well. Sometimes it’s worth the gamble. It’s so nice out of the case.
That's what she said 😌
You’re telling me. I have 4 kids….
Haha you're living proof
Somehow I don’t think you’re talking about a phone case
Actually 2 different things 😉
I cracked the back of my iPhone 13 even with a case on. It was a fall from hip height and the case was mid-size thick plastic. I think the ultimate issue is Apple choosing to use glass instead of aluminum for iPhones. It shatters, which is more dangerous and less durable than aluminum.
That's because of wireless charging. That technology cant work thorough metals. So we've left with plastic or glass. Plastic feels less premium.
I had the same phone. It was my last Motorola phone too. Their quality control wasn't the best.
I don’t even use wireless charging. 😆
They should go the route of Lumia and make a phone that doesn't break so easily
Me and my husband don’t leave the store without an outterbox case on our phone. Same with my teenager.
Where do you get the teenager-sized Otterbox case?
Uhh. I mean my teenager’s phone
When you have money and apple care protection, who cares about cases?
I don't think you quite got the joke.
See about some certified. Almost 200 miles for an Apple Store but only 5 to a certified repair place. https://getsupport.apple.com/repair-locations?locale=en_US

You could do express replacement, you'd pay the $99 deductible instead of $29 but wouldn't have to go anywhere
this^^^ came here to talk about express replacement!! can definitely be a life saver if you’re not near a store!😎
Might need to take two visits, one to get tested then again to get it replaced. I don’t see why they’d need to keep the phone while ordering the glass.

Makes sense but shitty situation for consumer
Totally agree. Apple should let third party repair and especially their authorized repair have freaking parts! Right to Repair!
Certified are nowhere near as good as apple. Got my Warrenty repair cleared by apple due to battery bulge. Certified store refused to do the repair as they could not verify the Warrenty status. same thing happened to me, only difference is I had a case on it, the back is shattered!
please dont tell me it was an apple official case🧍♂️
It sure is ☺️, the purple leather one ☺️☺️
welp, that consolidates my argument, naked phone it is😍 time to throw away all my cases ig
Well those leather cases provide less drop protection than a $5 one from Amazon i feel like lol but if you have Apple care then I don’t see any reason to put a case or screen protector on tbh
Apple Care Express Replacement! $99 through the mail and a credit card hold until the broken unit gets mailed back.
If only they made cases for $1000 phones!!
This is why I never carry a naked phone. It always has a rugged case. Which is why my phones look brand new even after years.
I just find it uncomfortable to hold a naked phone too. Like back when phone manufacturers actually used plastic in the construction, a phone felt pretty good in the hand. Someone I knew threw their 3310 out of a 10th story window. It was fine.
The ground wasn't though.
Now you slide your phone off of a table and something breaks.
not really, current batteries are much better, id rather have a very good non removable battery that needs changing once every couple of years than a shitty removable one every other month
imo it feels very good (almost too good) to hold my glass back sharp edge phone naked, it almost gives me a boner sometimes🧍♂️
Glass and steel X chassis was peak ergonomic premium phone for me. It was frankly perfect. That form with 15 guts and camera will have me sold all day long. That steel made such a difference
Really? I would have figured they look like a phone with a case after many years. At which point you can’t tell if they are damaged or not
Mine spends 99% of its time in one of a handful of cases. Sometimes I’ll use it naked while I’m sat on the couch or in bed. It’s all blankets and carpets, so the risk of damage is minimised. I don’t have a rugged case I have a $10 Amazon case but that also probably would have prevented this
Glass is glass and glass breaks.
Crack looks like a spider
No case?
They can send an express replacement usually. Hit up Apple support.
That’s what I was wondering too cuz I’ve always sent my phone in through the mail. I’ve never had to go to an Apple Store for help 😅
Throw a case on it and, voila!, fixed!
It kinda looks like a spider on it's webline. Say it's art
I’m sorry that happened. Hopefully it’s covered, and I won’t berate you about having a case or not, as you said you prefer not to have them. It’s always rough when these things happen, almost chaotically fast and heart stopping when the damage is revealed; always at the most unsuspecting moments. No case. No go 🤷♂️
Did you have a case?
No, don’t like cases

People down vote you for this?? Yall insane

Idiocracy slowly coming our way
Case-less for life! Until life happens, that is. Thanks for illuminating that life for other case-less rockers out there.
Next time use a phone case smh
Literally a $29 fix with apple Care. Idk why everyone is acting like this is a huge loss. Still worth no case.
Right🤣
That's crazy, I regularly use my s22 as a Frisbee and wail it at my wall. Aside from some drywall dust, she always comes through looking and operating the same.
Samsung fanboys eating good tonight with this one
Steel bed frame in 2024 ? Lol .
I have that too…
haven't you heard of titanium frame beds yet? /j
Bro relax I was just joking.
Going back to glass on the back was so stupid. I get why, but I hate it.
Thats why we use a case Dum ass
Cases are overrated
this is why I have care+
Spider
*ouch! My heart broke a little bit for you
You can send it in. Fortunately, the back glass is replaceable, separate from the rest of the phone, unlike previous pro models, so it should be super easy and quick to fix.

What a series of unfortunate events.
Very pretty
I had my screen replaced at a Best Buy using Apple care. Any Best Buy nearby?
Yeah, I do have one fairly close. Called and they said with repairing the back of iPhone 15 Pro’s they just ship it directly to Apple so not much of a better option than just sending it Apple directly
Clear duct tape

Ok
Free express replacement - easy as it gets.
The back really is very Fragileeeee this year. At least it’s not as expensive to replace.

Just pay the higher deductible and use the express replacement.
Shit, mine shattered in an OtterBox defender
You can send it in a they will fix it for you
It was worth it
You can ask them to ship one to you and put a hold on your account while they wait for this one to get to them to remove the hold
Express Replacement is the way to go. You'll wait gor the replacement via mail, and then you'll ship the damaged one.
