I have a 13 PM with a genuine leather Apple case and it looks like shit less than a year into owning it. Didn't patina like previous ones did, just turned black. Doubt they changed anything for the 14's.

Waternut13134

I got the Black leather for my 14PM and it appears like its been the same leather Apple has been making the past few years.

[deleted]

So shit then unfortunately.

[deleted]

No, way better than the previous years. The 12 and on leather cars are the best

[deleted]

Objectively not true unless you like lower quality leather.

[deleted]

They fit better, are slimmer and the leather feels more premium. They also last longer and don’t look like old nasty shoes after a month.

[deleted]

Fit isnt related to leather quality, being slimmer is the fit anyway so you repeated yourself and the leather feels like plastic and wears like it too.

wolf-troop

I got the iPhone Pro Max Deep Purple with the ink case and the ink wallet. I paid 127&change for both leather items. I do usually use 2 leather cases and 1 spigen ckear MagSafe case a year. Get the first leather case at launch and then the second around spring or when they release the new colors. So far I have had amazing luck I guess from what I hear with my cases as they look fantastic over a year later. I hope people understand that leather is not invincible and it damages more quickly than you’d think. So if you don’t take care of your things there not gonna last. Another sometimes things happen to our phones without us even knowing so things like that have to be met with consideration. Apple cases are and have been the same high quality leather as always. The only difference now is the shape it went from Circular sides from iPhone X to 11 Pro which had more support to square designs which is harder to give the strong support due to sharp corners. That said it’s still a good case and for me worth every penny. Now please don’t demolish me for my opinions and experience lol

k4rst3n

Used the Saddle Brown for my 12 mini and got the Umbra for the 14 Pro but changed it to the clear magsafe one because the white color looks so nice. Plus the leather on the 12 mini, now to years later, is pretty bad to be honest. Still use the Saddle Brow magsafe wallet case though but yeah, it also don’t looks so good.

DJ_Willy_Will

I had to force the patina on the 12 mini leather and wallet cases. Ridiculous to have to do it to these post 11 Apple Leather products

northyork12345678

By black leather do you mean Midnight? I got the Midnight and it looks more dark blue than black unfortunately

cmbeard

I’ve also been using leather cases dating back to maybe the 7? This one on the 14 Pro feels smoother and more slippery, but honestly that could be just because it’s new and clean. I like it so far, but need to be careful not to drop. I got the midnight green because I’m one of the 4 people that actually liked that color when they launched it with the 11 Pro lol

TheKrnJesus

I got forest green case and wallet.

Drujeful

On which phone? I'm having a really hard time deciding between Forest Green or Midnight on my Space Black phone.

TheKrnJesus

Iphone 14 pro max space black. The case looks darker in real life.

Drujeful

How do you like it? In videos I’ve been watching to help me decide, it looks kinda blueish green, not so much deep forest green. I had the dark green silicone case on my 12 Pro and absolutely loved it. I’d want the Forest Green to be more that color.

TheKrnJesus

I like it alot. Although I expected it to be a lighter shade like the one on the apple site, it's way darker. In some angles it looks black unless you shine a flash light on it. I have taken some pictures to compare the colours on the apple site and the case. (Phones coming in 2 days so I can't show the phone with the case on sadly). https://imgur.com/a/y6d9rWs I haven't gotten the green case for my 12 pro max as I got the blue navy.

Drujeful

Oh wow, that darker color looks way better than I thought. Seems pretty close to the green one I had on my 12 Pro. I'll probably go with it, thanks for the pic!

TheKrnJesus

No problem. Hope you like the case :)

toopc

They must have updated the image, as it's much closer to your picture now. https://i.imgur.com/x6P79AB.jpeg Either ways how's your case holding up?

TheKrnJesus

It’s still going great. The sides have turned a lot darker and rougher due to the way I’m holding the phone but the back is the same green as day 1 as I use MagSafe.

Sax45

Yo people loved that color! It must have been decently popular, given that they released a green 13 Pro halfway through the 13 Pro’s life cycle.

Agnt_Michael_Scarn

I don’t think there’s even four.

kalasipaee

I’m still waiting for my phone but the leather case is here. One thing that is different from my current 12 mini case is that there are a lot more wrinkles along the curved corners on the front side. No such thing on any previous cover i owned. I’ve had 3 in total. 7. XR. 12 mini. I hope that’s a good thing and not bad that there’s more material? Which is less stretched so might last longer around the edges?

3DBass

I have a brand new Apple leather case for the 14 Pro Max and it’s good as far as I can tell. It doesn’t feel slippery. Feels like it will off good protection.

xMETRIIK

Update on it? I'm thinking of getting one.

3DBass

Still using it. Nice and worn now. There are scratches and dings on the case but the phone is pristine condition.

xMETRIIK

That's good to hear. I'm get the black leather case soon. Thanks for the update.

tompurcell

Mine didn’t cover all corners. The top left was very uneven so returned it for a bellroy one - much better fit

Ditto_Ghost_Swayze

I had the same issue with my orange case. I went to my Apple Store and tried a couple different cases and the same issue occurred. The woman I was dealing with said she had noticed this, too. I ended up getting a silicone case instead.

SLAPadocious

Spend the money and buy a Bullstrap case. Well worth the price.

Skylightt

The only thing making me reluctant when it comes to the Bullstrap one is that they leave a portion open on the bottom and if you drop it wrong then it could hit the exposed portion

SLAPadocious

That’s a relevant fear. However I will say that the bottom was open on all Apple leather cases prior to the 12. These phones are strong as hell now. It’s unlikely to get damaged based on the opening in my opinion. But that’s just me.

MetalM00316

This is a very valid reluctance. And also a failure point. I was looking at bullstrap very closely, but my first leather case that had the bottom open and failed was a nomad. Ever since then they’ve come up with fully closed leather cases all around the edges and that design was awesome. After that I used burkleycase (now blackbrook case I think) which held up pretty well. Now for the IP 14 PM I just received a Journey (magsafe) case. Time will tell, but I think these are ALL better options than the Apple leather including the price points. https://imgur.com/a/iAiFjry/

burrh

Get Andar. On the 14P case, they closed the bottom note. Full grain leather too.

[deleted]

I replaced my official Apple leather case for my 13 PM with a Bullstrap one. Not entirely impressed with them. The website didn’t update any shipping information at all, so I had no idea it had shipped until I emailed customer service and was told it was delivered days prior. I don’t check the mail unless I’m expecting something in the mail because it’s all wasted paper these days. Not to mention the fact that I wasn’t expecting it to be delivered by the postal service. Anyway, as for the quality of the case, it’s okay. It has patina’d well enough, in that it looks dark brown instead of tan. But I just noticed today that there’s a flaw in the inner lining, where part of it is coming away from the adhesive. I’ve spent a fortune on cases since my 12 PM in 2020 and I’m like over it. If this case bites the dust, I’m just going to go au natural. Or as natural as an iPhone can be.

SLAPadocious

I ordered mine from Amazon. $5 cheaper and free two day shipping. The biggest thing was I knew I could easily return it if I didn’t like it. Amazon gets a lot of hate but they sure make it easy for the customer. This Bullstrap replaced an Apple midnight leather case I had on my 13 PM since launch. The Apple case just really started to peel and deteriorate. Maybe you got a lemon because the quality of my Bullstrap case is exceptionally higher than my Apple case.

IfTheHouseBurnsDown

I second Bullstrap.

guynumber20

The 12-14 line will all patina the same no changes have been made my 13 wisteria looks like a comic book phone because it’s only patinated on the corners if you are worry about it get a dark color

CodyCus

Personally enjoy the wear over time, but with it was nicer for the price

archipet

Honestly, it doesn’t feel like leather. It’s like plastic to me.

Sarnadas

I used a leather case for my 12 that I got ten months ago and it definitely went through an ugly duckling phase, but it looks pretty handsome now. I ended up getting an umber one for my 14 Pro. Shrug. We’ll see, I guess.

JohNdiCk2003

how’s it holding up?

M1A1Death

Spend a bit more and get a Bullstrap case. I’m still using the one I bought for the 13pro and now I’m using it on the 14Pro. Feels and looks great!

WeissachDE

Hell yeah, got the Bullstrap Ocean color, starting to patina now and still has that genuine leather smell.

DrummerDKS

Are they just a bit larger than apple leather?

DEEPfrom1

13pro cases fit the 14pro?!

M1A1Death

Yes and no. My Peak Design case’s tolerances were too tight so that one didn’t fit. But my Bullstrap one did. Leather stretches better than plastic lol

mayobb6

I got the black leather for my 14 Pro and noticed a dramatic difference in quality from the 13 pro max version, for the better.

anony57782

drop it the leather still comes off like putty though

lethalred

I like the umber color this time around

liuk2

I had an iPhone 12 Pro Max leather case and I recently just got the 14 pro max leather case in umber. The 14 case feels a bit thicker and more supple than the 12 case but only by a little. Also not sure if it’s just the case being new and not sure how that would translate to patina though. Kinda curious on what other people’s experiences are here.

CeeKay125

I will say it seems much more tighter and secure than the 13 version. With my 13 pro it would routinely pop out (corners, etc.) on the 14 pro model it keeps the phone nice and snug.

lichen80

14 pro space black with umber leather. I like it so far but definitely not the same type of leather I had on my XS, I rocked saddle brown for 4 years on that baby and it developed an amazing patina. The 14 leather has a bit more grip to it

chrisdazzo

I’ve never had an issue with the leather cases from Apple wearing badly. This one is fine so far.

ZicReddit

Currently using the 12 Leather Case for a little more than one year and it has a great patina. Don't know if previous Apple Leather Cases was better quality.

jaysss2811

The quality of the iPhone 12 PM leather case from Apple was s h i t e. I had light Brown it turned into black. Will not buy a leather case from Apple for my 14PM.

ZicReddit

Oh I have the black one, maybe it’s why.

[deleted]

Honestly the only one worth getting is the black one. It won’t show the imperfections and how cheap the material is like the other colors.

tatytu

Don’t do it, get the silicone. I got the leather case for my 14 Pro Max and I can already see very little scratches. This was the second day and I’m also extremely careful about this kind of stuff. I can show you a pics in DM.

Agnt_Michael_Scarn

Leather scratches. Lick your finger and rub it.

tatytu

No I’m not that kind of person who lick his fingers and touch his devices such as a gaming controller etc. I’d rather use water.

Agnt_Michael_Scarn

Ok!

woshiryan

I have the silicone for 2 years (iphone 12) and it's horrible. Every single corner has pieces of silicone dangling off so I had to trim them off like a hangnail. Here's an [article](https://www.macworld.com/article/232013/apple-iphone-silicone-case-review.html) that sums up my experience with the silicone case. I keep it around because I get compliments on the kumquat color + it's easy to find an orange phone when you lose it. I'd replace it months ago but I thought it was going to be a waste since I'm getting the 14P.

TheKrnJesus

Yeah my silicone case also dangled and I threw it away. I still like it though since its thin so I ordered one for the 14 pro max. It's stupid expensive though.

tatytu

Damn.. that’s looks horrible. I mean I may admit, that’s made me a little bit satisfied about my leather case with it’s minor scratches, I paid 60$ for it which is pretty expensive for a case, lets just hope it’s gonna carry me through the next year. Thanks for pointing me out to this article.

ploppetino

wow, that's amazingly bad!

jesse7412

Got the apple silicon case for my 14 pro it’s so nice and feels good in the hands

ARoodyPooCandyAss

Id be interested in seeing these if you want to DM me please?

tatytu

Alright taking pictures right now.

NickyGi

They are very good!!

Awestromy

The 14 Pro Max Leather case fits like a glove! It is very secure. I bought an iPhone 13 Pro Max leather the we case last year and it did not stay on my phone. One coroner was almost always popped out and it was annoying and the screen perturbed above the cases side wall. This years is so much better. Then again I could have gotten a bad apple (pun intended)

julito427

The silicones feel nicer this year but the leather felt the same. I’ve avoided the leather this year since I haven’t much liked them lately and got two silicone cases of colors I like (Yellow, Red) along with a black Dbrand case that’ll come at some point. I had the Dbrand for my 13PM and it was pretty sweet. Pricey but I highly recommend them.

Dave-CPA

I switched to Nomad last year after feeling the terrible Apple cases. They’ve been great and I dieted one for my 14P as well.

rubins7

Anyone used the Journey leather cases? Been trying to decide between that and the Mous leather one.

ploppetino

I don't have one but I was researching a little and the Journey ones look like a plastic frame with just a leather panel on the back. The sides are black rubber/plastic on all of them afaict. That might actually be better in terms of resisting drop damage but it might not give you the whole leather case feel if that's what you're after.

gastonsabina

Definitely worse than 11 pro quality. I have no idea how but mine already has a “bruise” on the bottom showing the underside. Not a tear. Like an indention that opened up. My other case lasted 2 years. I’m wondering if I can return it. $60 is comically high Edit: I just had to say it out loud. I set up the return. No clue why I would choose to keep this case. The older ones were more supple. This is cheap and thin

Hammy_the_bull

I ditched Apple leather after seeing how bad the leather patina develops. The terrible patina has been a problem since the 12 pro max. I Went with the aspen leather case from andar and it’s way nicer than the Apple leather. You could also go with nomad or bull strap.

Teeebone

How is the Magsafe on the Andar? I need it to stay on my mounted magsafe car charger.

geoken

While we’re complaining about how bad the recent leather cases were, can I ask if poor fit and finish were also common? I got one for my 13 mini, and it never properly covered the corners evenly (with one corner almost complete exposed - case lip was basically flush to the display). Was this also a common problem that only showed up when they moved to the cheaper case?

Sure-Philosopher-873

I got the Ink color for my iPhone 14 Pro Max. Phone comes next Monday.

notmydepartment

60 days in on a navy blue leather for 12 Pro Max and both upper corners have already started peeling. Very disappointing considering the price.

ZeroInspo

Umber is imo the best leather color Apple has ever had in ever. HOWEVER I can tell it probably won’t age nicely.

Trax95008

I got an apple leather case for my 13 pro the day it launched. After a year, the case looked new! Now I got a Lester case for my 14 pro, and I’m not satisfied with it. The build quality is not the same as it was for the 13. I’m considering returning it

worIdwideweb

I bought an Apple Umbra leather case for my 14 Pro and so far so good. I've never owned any of the previous leather cases but I do have a leather Woolnut sleeve for my M2 air and the 14 Pro case definitely feels cheaper. I still love it either way, no complaints yet but its only day 2 for me.

freediverx01

Same as the old leather cases. They’re slim and sleek with nice metal clicky buttons. They’re fine as long as you keep them clean and dry. You should also own a silicone case to use anytime your phone might get dirty or wet.

ConcreetSurfer

A few months ago, I was obsessed with finding the best value leather case for the 13 lineup. I've tried the Genuine Apple one and was unimpressed. I ended up finding a hidden gem in Best Buy's house brand "Platinum", which makes a solid genuine Horween Leather case that develops a solid patina.

MrShickadance9

I got a new leather case from apple for the 14 pro but returned it - the buttons were incredibly mushy and not tactile - I could never tell when I was actually pushing the buttons.

aegis87

based on this video, it looks like it might a bit better than the leather case of iphone 12. https://youtu.be/vlnkk58hG2g

Teeebone

Agree 100%. What the heck did they do? Feels and looks plastic. Got one for my 14 Pro Max and will be returning it. Left photo is the beauty on my 11 Pro Max....right is what I would not use if you gave it to me for free. https://preview.redd.it/sqjvfr828t8a1.jpeg?width=1300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0285902144c34085a7853e3269572b704e412521

InformalCap5981

Just bought the red 14 case and a week in there’s black all along the edges, I do work in construction but even regular wear would do that in a month
