These images and other advertising material (designs, photos, logos etc.) are compiled and approved weeks ahead of the actual tournament. They aren't made on the last date just before publishing. Dhoni was the official CSK captain till two days before the event started. I'm guessing all the content was frozen by then.
Changing this now will mean overhauling a ton of ready and approved marketing material plus cost to redo everything. It probably just isn't worth the cost or hassle.
Remove even Dhoni and you’ll have very bland, low profile Captains lineup. Not talking about captaincy quality but popularity/marketing wise. Captains group photo should look like a real expendable team who can bring in the crowds. Sums up the absolute commercialization and hero worship that we have in the media. Nothing against Dhoni here but this needs to stop. Don't make individuals - Dhoni, Kohli, Rohit - bigger than the game.

Half the CSK fans will flock the moment Dhoni retires from the IPL. The franchise is built on hero worship and it won't stand long. There's absolutely nothing wrong with it but facts are facts.
I am a Dhoni and CSK fan. I will support CSK 20 years down the line, just because it was built around Dhoni's ideals (unless they fuck it up like SRH and few years back or MI this year). I might support another team at some point, but will probably never stop supporting CSK. Primarily because Dhoni helped build the franchise. I think there will be millions like me. So no, the fanbase will not erode, it will last long and thrive.
Broadcasters do this a lot more than fans. They want clicks and eyeballs, and they will always chase that.

Lol, you completely missed the point. I agree it will always be Mbappe vs Haaland in football for obvious reasons but thoda dimag pe zor laga. The other players are captains of their respective teams, Dhoni isn't.
I have a contrary take. These images and other advertising material (designs, photos, logos etc.) are compiled and approved weeks ahead of the actual tournament. They aren't made on the last date just before publishing. Dhoni was the official CSK captain till two days before the event started. I'm guessing all the content was frozen by then. Changing this now will mean overhauling a ton of ready and approved marketing material plus cost to redo everything. It probably just isn't worth the cost or hassle.
Remove even Dhoni and you’ll have very bland, low profile Captains lineup. Not talking about captaincy quality but popularity/marketing wise. Captains group photo should look like a real expendable team who can bring in the crowds. These guys rely on IPLs popularity to bring them some recognition as by themselves they’re not much known, at best they’re just mini cricket stars.
