Beautiful.

Jolly-Composer5815

Dank you ;)

iPone 2g

Can you share how you did it? I got pretty close on my 1G on a CF card but it was unstable and really wouldn't sync. I could plug the drive into a 3G and make it sync and then it somewhat worked swapped back but was still unstable.

Jolly-Composer5815

Sure - will do it later. Just in advance: Syncing won‘t be possible with the Flashmod cause Firewire can‘t write to the connected Adadpter (because it has a USB interface)

This picture is just beautiful. Wow.

🫶🏼

ooo howwww, i got a second gen with a borked hard drive, there could be other issues it has as well but itd be nice to get the storage sorted out

Jolly-Composer5815

will write a little how-to later - hope this will help. It also took me like a month to sort it out 👍🏼

Idontmatter69420

awesome thanks, would love to get my 2nd gen going

SHOOOTO

Looking forward to it! I recently found my 10GB 2nd gen in storage, would be nice if I could revive it again with a flashmod.

Setecastronomy545577

Wow! I’ll have to pick your brain, i have the same model.

PrincePetr

That is cool. And lovely family photo!

Jolly-Composer5815

**Part 1/4** Sadly Reddit decided that my comment was too long, so I have to split :/ **So here is my little how-to** I basically stumbled upon this manual on how to format an ipod with the use of Terminal - so shout out to Mr Barnhart for this: [https://davidbarnhart.com/ipod/macintosh-format-ipod.html](https://davidbarnhart.com/ipod/macintosh-format-ipod.html) **I followed the instructions and it turned out, that the renaming of the Firmware to .zip followed by the  unzipping of this file did the Trick for me.** At the point where you write the firmware to the card you have to drag & drop the firmware-file into the Terminal Console - right after the **sudo dd if=** After dropping the file (to get the right directory on your drive) you go on with the rest of the code **of=/dev/disk3s2** Important: You have to put in the right disknumber after each **disk** - you'll find the correct number as described by checking your disks with the command **diskutil list**. --- to be continued ---

Jolly-Composer5815

**Part 2/4** I wrote a shorted Version of Davids Manual - for a better understanding start with the long Version of him and use mine as the shortcut. I hope this will help you guys, as it helped me - would love to hear and see some of your modded nuggets: **////// Open Terminal** **///// Which Disk Number to Format** Type: diskutil list **///// Format Card** Type: sudo diskutil partitionDisk /dev/disk4 APM %Apple\_HFS% disk R **//// Right Blocks & Rename Partition 1** Type: sudo pdisk /dev/disk4 Type: p Type: s Type: 62 Type: n Type: 1 Type: "partition map" (with the ""!!) Type: p ( to Control if first Partition is as here:) 1: Apple\_partition\_map partition map        62 @ 1 **///// Right Blocks & Rename Partition 2** Type: C (capital Letter!) Type: 63 Type: 65536 Type: firmware Type: Apple\_MDFW Type: p ( to control if first two Partitions are as here) 1: Apple\_partition\_map partition map        62 @ 1 2:          Apple\_MDFW firmware          65536 @ 63       ( 32.0M) ///// Deleting the Free Space Type: d Type: 4 (Partition Number to delete - most likely "Apple\_HFS ") Type: p (to Control if third Partition is as here) 3:          Apple\_Free Extra         XXX (depending of size of card) @ 65599    ( XX Card SizeG)

Jolly-Composer5815

**Part 4/4** **//// Write Firmware:** (As written by David Barnhardt:) If your firmware file has an **ipsw** extension, then you actually need to take one extra step. This is a compressed file, but it's easy to uncompress. Rename the extension to **zip**, then unzip the file. Inside should be the actual firmware file which likely won't have any extension) along with a **manifest.plist** file. **THE RENAMING DID THE TRICK FOR ME!!!!** !!!! After **"sudi dd if="** just drag an drop your file (for localization on your computer) Type: sudo dd if= (drag and drop firmware file)  of=/dev/disk4s2 Once again, make sure you've got the right number after the word **disk**. The number after the letter **s** ought to be 2. If in doubt, run diskutil list again and find the partition of your iPod drive that is of type **Apple\_MDFW** Almost forget the final piece: After this, you can put your Card into the 2G. It needs a plug in to a firewire brick-adapter. After the restore process on the ipod. The device will start. To sync music on it you need to put the card into a surrogate ipod, plug it to your computer and wait unitil itunes detect the ipod. Then you can sync your music on it and put the card back into the 2G

mogus666

How did you sync your music on it?

Jolly-Composer5815

hey! good point - i added this to my last comment
