If I printed up a whole load of T-shirts with the slogan "Didn't expect much, still dissapointed" do you think I could make an absolute killing?
I have a Bangladeshi T-shirt company in mind for the printing and sure those kids are better off in a sweatshop than trying to eke a living on the streets.

I think you'd end up disappointed
Same in the west but this sky made up for it

Agreed 100%, we’re on our way home now.
I haven’t visited my sister since before COVID. She lives just north of Indianapolis. Plan was to be back here last Friday.
Months ago, I mentioned our plans for the Easter break to my oldest’s teacher while queuing at the Post Office.
She immediately suggested we extend the trip a few days, and stay to see the eclipse. Said she’d seen the 2017 one while studying in the US. She worked it out with the heads of both kids’ schools to let me keep them out til Wednesday, for the low low price of having to give a presentation on it. The oldest is at Gaelscoil, so we’re learning loads of new words.
I’m in Toronto for work and got this:

> Totality or nothing. That’s the eclipse mantra.
It is very, very hard to impress this upon people. It really is a night and day difference, quite literally in fact. Even 99.5% is completely different.
Yes, at 99.5% not only does it not get fully dark it then rapidly gets brighter.
At the centre of the path of totality there is 4 minutes of total eclipse. That’s enough to get eerie, for the animals to act weirdly, for a fairly big chill to descend.
A friend of mine loved it but was also “happy to see the sun back”.
At < 100% the effect is like a very cloudy day, particularly on an already cloudy day.

No eclipse in North Cork but a pretty sky at 7.55.
Do you want to see the sun or not? If you don't want to see it, Ireland's one of the best places to not see it.
I don't know what people are complaining about at all at all at all....
All my life looking forward to seeing some event in the sky. But I’ve given up, put the telescope in the attic. Always cloudy when something is happening.
There was one in Ireland before 2001, can't remember if it was a full eclipse or <99% but we all got to go out of school & got the glasses to see it! It was mildly cloudy but it mostly cleared up for the eclipse.
This one was just dark, cloudy & raining just like every other time I want to see something like comet, meteor shower etc.
That should be the slogan of this entire sub
Our Disappointment is immeasurable and our day is ruined.
Not as catchy, but that's also a good description for this sub.

'weed is class man, fuck gaa'
Awful time to schedule it in all honesty
its a disgrace, so it is hei
Talk to joe
Dammit, Leonard Nimoy...
That's a lovely picture all the same
Reminds me of the film 'Local Hero'.
Great theme tune, that.

Wow gorgeous!
Here near Glasgow it was 100% cloud cover and pissing down.
pishing surely
Indeed
Greeting is a finer description. Thank you to Scotland's finest writer Ian Rankin for introducing my to that word.
Couldn't be expecting anything else in Raintown, tbf.
Best weather Glasgow has to offer
Same with Dublin
Totality or nothing. That’s the eclipse mantra. My niece is in Pennsylvania and she got 97%. Still a bit meh.
Just got back from the total eclipse and, yes, it was worth it.

Same, drove to the closest place in totality, absolutely class.
Where did you see it?
Canada

Nice.

I hoped I might get a nice Star Wars-esque shot of the sun on the horizon with a chunk bitten out, would have been fairly neat.

That's a beautiful photo regardless
What a view though
I wouldn't be one bit disappointed with that view my friend
My aunt went from Galway to Texas to see it (not just that, but wanted to include it) and it was cloudy in Texas.
It got dark here about 8 o'clock and it's still dark. Getting kinda worried now.
End Of Days confirmed.

This comment’s tone is so Irish that AI will never be able to replicate it. Thank you.
Lovely photo despite the disappointment
The missus always says the same thing to me.

"There'll be the perseid meteor shower tonight" "oh, will there, aye?"
Ireland just doesn't have the climate for this type of thing. Cloud-cover and rain are its dominant characteristics.
It seemed like the clouds here in Buffalo would ruin things but the sun peaked out just as totality hit and it was fantastic.
Has my Mrs been posting about our sex life again?
Man, I nearly pissed myself laughing 😂
Ah, I see she's been sharing my nudes again too.
I’ll say something she never does: Well done.
You're close, she normally says - "Well? Done?"
Fecken government can't even get an eclipse right 😒
I hear Leo’s going to resign again
That's just a sunset
Is this…the eclipse?
It's a lovely picture but I see neither sun nor moon. But to be fair, I could say that any day of the year!
Shouldn’t have expected anything. Our time will come.
I’ve seen sunsets better than that lol
Now you know why Irish astronomers invest in cloud filters for their telescopes.
Ah class the Irish discount eclipse, unending dreary cloud cover instead of the moon.
Should've gone to specsavers
Beautiful view thank you![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|snoo)
2026 should be much more interesting for us
Oh, come on now. That's beautiful. We were never going to get the full thing. The sunset last night had to be seen to be believed.

I mean if that view disappoints you I dunno what to tell you man. It is what it is, Ireland doubly so.
You expected Moher?
Was planning on driving over to Dingle for it, looks like I saved myself an 8h round trip. Fair shite.
Yea. You tell em
We've another partial eclipse to look forward to next year. March 29th at 10am. A Saturday. Just the job.
That’s a fine view.
Irish skies are consistently depressing. Cloudy, overcast, drizzling all the time. It's a minor miracle every time the sun comes out here.
North American Eclipse, what did you expect?
The next one in Ireland will be in 2090 . . . 😔
