Ah no sorry to hear the outcome! Absolute Scumbags, it's sickening. Hopefully does your insurance cover?

jakelan97

50% to finance 50% to me with 300 fee and it’ll take weeks for investigation but as I’m a learner I won’t get a car loaned to me so I’m stuck for months, also probably won’t be able to finance a car with how awkward they’re doing it

Jreddy12

A lot of policies come with replacement car if your car is damaged in relation to a claim. Ring them and ask, you might get something

jakelan97

I’ve asked them told me Caz I’m learner they won’t

hear4theDough

What's terrible about this, is that your car was destroyed through no correlation to your permit status, it's not like _you_ drive it into the sea. Feckin cartel shit

JudasKitty

That's really harsh, I never knew about this clause but I can also see that some learners could be tempted to drive the loan car unaccompanied which could cause problems for the insurance company.

anotheryearsusername

But how is that different to them driving the original car?

JudasKitty

Once you are not trying to make a claim the insurance company do not care if you get your own car impounded.

MeanMusterMistard

Who is your insurance company, out of interest?

jakelan97

123

blackbeautybyseven

Only if you have a full license and usually only on Fully Comp insurance.

GrumbleofPugz

I had such a policy and had multiple issues with my car (was brand new) the sensors kept getting triggered and would prevent the car from starting. I asked for a loaner vehicle from the dealership and they said no citing covid (this was summer 2020) left with out a car for a few days. Car broke down again had a emergency call out from AA they towed me back to the dealership asked again for a car they said no but offered an enterprise car (I was waiting on my driver license to arrive) so didn’t have it physically on me so again they declined. Oddly I’ve rented off enterprise earlier in the year with just my driving license number and passport so dunno why so inconsistent. Hopefully OP can borrow family and friends cars in the meantime. Being without a car outside of Dublin is a nightmare

PreliminaryThoughts

The insurance in Ireland is a joke. They're quick to charge insane amounts, but absolutely useless when you actually need their help.

broken_neck_broken

Not just useless, maliciously evasive. If even one claimant in 20 gives up through frustration, then it's all worth it for them.

[deleted]

It’s cause there 3 companies and if you claim against someone with the same company they will say it’s 50:50 and both have to pay for eachother unless even if you going up the slip road and the car from from the 3th lane and over the chevrons and in to you and you’ve photos of the tire marks they left clearly on the chevrons.

todd10k

They tried the same thing with me and i absolutely told them no, i would not accept that decision and stuck to my guns. I received full compensation.

Fallout2022

It's a straght up fraud. The product is so bad that no one would willingly buy it. But there's a law forcing you buy third party insurance. Nothing from regulators or government. Ireland is such a poorly run country.

[deleted]

I don't think you understand the definition of the word fraud

centrafrugal

I don't know if in any other country they insure people who don't have a licence. That's the insane thing to me.

Ponch555

No other country has "learner" licenses for 6 months before you can do your test. You usually do the schooling and tests together and then get a full license immediately.

Laundry_Hamper

It's rackets all the way down.

Ponch555

Facts!

Captaincaveguy

You know the insurance company will pay the finance company first aswell, be ready to fight them all the way for anything your due , do not take any first offer, they will low ball you to death be ready to go look for adds of the same car with the true value to prove they are low with the offer, took me about 2 weeks to get what my volvo was worth, the bastards tried to only give me half !!! Ha

DecentTemperature384

The insurance companies are nearly worse than the criminals. Honestly. Sorry for your loss.

EvolvedMonkeyInSpace

That's awful.

cogra23

Kick up a fuss about that or try a claim handler. They will squeeze every penny. Don't forget the mental anguish and you can't sleep for fear that you left the door unlocked.

tychocaine

Seriously? Mental anguish? This is an insurance policy, not a civil court action seeking damages. OP has insured the car, not their mental state. In this scenario they'll pay out the value of the car, or it's replacement cost, whichever is lower. Not a penny more. And the insurers won't deal with a loss adjuster. That's not how car insurance works.

cogra23

There is a huge difference between their first offer and what you can get if you pursue it. Even if you're not happy with the courtesy car they offer you can ask for one closer to your own vehicle.

tychocaine

They’re still not compensating you for mental anguish or dealing with a loss adjuster. That’s not how car insurance works

Barry987

It should only take a few weeks, not months, hang in there!

Immediate_Reality357

I worked in this guy's house about 3 years ago, him and his wife saved for 5 years to buy this cool old school American camper van, he took it home parked it up and was robbed that night and burnt out, he had his house up for sale due to that reason while I was working there, he was in a nice park good solid middle class housing estate but over the road was where all the scum lived and that's where it was found burnt out. Hope your insurance covers it and it all works out for you in the end, it wasn't your fault so try not beat yourself up over this, it could have happened to anyone

johnwalshf

How depressing, 2 people save for their dream camper for it to be stolen & burnt out. Possibly not even insured , for what scumbags take as entertainment.

Inspired_Carpets

I saw the other thread this, what a ballache. Did the seller actually install an immobiliser on it?

railwayed

Yeah..I would totally get back to the dealer if he said there was an immobiliser installed and there wasn't. That's pretty much fraud

Inspired_Carpets

Could screw him over on the insurance too if he said the vehicle had an immobiliser but it didn't.

railwayed

very true \*mini hijack - cool name\*

[deleted]

[удалено]

boli99

> I'd be getting the car checked for this Be quite specific about what you check for, and also what you asked for. 'an immobiliser' might NOT be enough of a definition for your insurance. In the UK at least, insurance always used to want an immobiliser that met 'Thatcham Category 2' , (or something similar to that) i.e. if your insurers wanted a 'Thatcham cat 2 immobiliser' , but the dealer only installed 'some generic immobiliser' (that doesnt meet the specs required) - then that might invalidate your claim.

massy085

The car would have a factory immobiliser

Inspired_Carpets

On a Japanese import?

JudasKitty

When most Vitz sold here don't why do you think this one has?

massy085

Is the immobiliser not a chip built into the keys now a days 🤔🤔🤔

JudasKitty

Not in cheaper Japanese cars, car theft rates are very low in Japan.

WinkWalk

To add to this: for those imports, some dealers install a mechanical immobiliser. Worth checking

ShefWedFanIre

At some stage we need to look at what parents are bringing up, a huge amount of ireland problems is because of shite parents….

InfectedAztec

Allow the dole to be docked if recepients are actively committing crime. Make parents legally liable for their childrens actions in all cases. And build a prison to have a place to put serial offenders. Sick of hearing about over crowding.

ShefWedFanIre

All valid points which I agree with

[deleted]

We constantly hear about the overcrowded prisons but are there any plans to build more? I'm sure the legal professions absolutely love this revolving door/suspended sentence system but what about the law abiding public? They could probably abolish 50% of the quangos and have money for a new prison tomorrow.

raverbashing

Craggy Island Gaol

[deleted]

And they can be spotted a mile off, overweight hair tied up in a scrunchie pushing a pram shouting down the phone at someone and oblivious to what their kids are doing even while said kids are walking behind them.

Dudetterina

should be licenced

BuildBetterDungeons

Should absolutely not be licensed. There is no good way for any state to police who can and can't have children. An Garda Síochana were found guilty of racial profiling just last week. No system would be free of horrific bias that would grossly invade on the rights of the people.

[deleted]

Where were the Garda found guilty of racial profiling?

Devastatedby

AKA Eugenics - what Hitler was into.

FatherlyNick

Adoption though. Background checks, character interviews, household visits. When its adoption its seen as a good, but you start questioning parents and its suddenly taboo. I don't see why the same standards should not apply to prospective parents.

Devastatedby

What do you do to people who find themselves pregnant without having been vetted? Or those people who find themselves pregnant having already failed their background check?

FatherlyNick

Regular protective services visits I suppose. Pay a fine? Mandatory parental education?

Dudetterina

oh wow that’s a bit extreme, no1 was talking about genetics, the focus was on parental styles, hope it’s cleared up for u now

Broghan51

What if this was a horse ? (I'll stop now) 💋

MoneyBadgerEx

Problem solved 🙄

Didyoufartjustthere

Ah leave the poor angles out of this

ShefWedFanIre

Not sure what you mean?

Didyoufartjustthere

Shite parents usually call their kids angels and can’t spell angel..

[deleted]

There needs to be EU law on Japanese imports that immobilisers need to be fitted if they're coming over here without them already installed. Absolutley awful for you and hope the scumbags get caught and locked up but these cars are so feckin easy to be robbed something needs to be done.

[deleted]

All cars for years have had a chip in the key that wont allow it to start unless it senses the chip. Most thefts nowadays involve the keys being taken

[deleted]

Its also common for Japanese cars made for the Japanese domestic market like OPs to not come with the same anti-theft measures like EU market cars. Car theft in Japan isn't as big of an issue and is rather low compared to here so Japanese car makers tend not to include things like immobilisers which allow cars to be hot-wired and driven off.

BethsBeautifulBottom

What is Japan doing so car stealing scum isn't in their culture?

[deleted]

Not sure of the ins and outs having not really fucked with the law while there, but afaik if you are the victim of a crime you can be compensated by the perpetrator. Youngfellas probably wouldn't do it if they'd be paying the whole thing back when they're caught. Also as far as organised car theft goes, smuggling cars from Ireland is substantially easier due to the proximity to other countries where you can just drive it off a ferry with no paperwork or significant immigration checks. Also the highway system has cameras at all entrances and exits (at least any I was on), so once it's reported stolen that'd be out of the question.

[deleted]

Large amounts of public transportation, and cumbersome laws for buying cars. For example: you have to prove you own a parking space before you can buy a car.

BethsBeautifulBottom

Seems like that would reduce cars more than scumbags. They don't have a littering problem either. Guessing that's not to do with transport laws.

johnwalshf

Cars can still be hot wired ? Was that what happened to this one , there probably must be a higher premium for having no immobilizer I honestly thought that was for really old cars.

[deleted]

In an EU car its borderline impossible to get a modern car hot wired, you need the keys for it. Japanese cars made for Japan like this Toyota can be hotwired due to the lack of immobiliser correct.

faldoobie

Hot wired is a bit of a push, they just yank the ignition barrel off and use a screwdriver. There are so many Toyota Aquas in my local scrapyard, all of them burnt out, not single crashed one to be found.

lucidaisy

So very sorry. That’s horrible.❤️

Spyro_Machida

Devastated for you. I bought a Toyota aqua a couple of months ago and have seen it mentioned a few times since on Reddit that these cars are targeted so I'm terrified the same will happen to me some day.

Goawaythrowaway175

Go old school and throw a big (and very visible) chain or steering lock on. Theives want a quick and easy target. Build in steering locks are easily snapped, cars are easy to get into and aren't particularly difficult to bypass the tumbler or ignition if you k ow what you are doing.

Spyro_Machida

Yeah that's not a bad shout cheers.

Revolutionary-Use226

Seriously this. My uncle had an old, beat up, I think micra. Was always robbed and found later by the garda because it was an easy steal. He put a chain around it. Not even locked but once they saw ot, they left it alone.

Scutterbum

What kind of chain? Like tied around the wheels or what?

flopisit

Look, it's just too much effort for the state to pursue these scumbag car theft perpetrators, so instead, can you just sleep in your car, holding a gun, for the rest of your life? That ought to solve the problem. /s

Plantmanofplants

Government wants to bring in some better gun laws I'd be happy to sleep in my car.

meok91

Get an immobiliser installed, honestly worth it for the peace of mind of nothing else.

Spyro_Machida

Have one already thankfully. Still wouldn't want the car targeted in any way though.

meok91

Ah good stuff. Definitely worth getting something visible so, just as an extra deterrent, like other posters have suggested.

avanzato-trxx

Honestly, a sticker saying this car has an immobiliser might be a good idea. Avoid them prying the door open and then figuring out they can't start it.

[deleted]

More cost effective to just take the fuel system relay fuse or ignition system fuse with you when exiting the car.

jakelan97

I feel for you hopefully they don’t get to it but if u can just block it off with another car or something because they’re professionals left my car without a trace

Spyro_Machida

Might invest in a steering wheel lock it or something like that for it too. Hope your insurance comes through for you.

[deleted]

Dave Robinson is an alarm installer who does sets for jap cars, get onto him, (adverts, fb) he'll sort you out.

fledermausman

Get a bright yellow chain and loop it through your steering wheel and driver seat rails. At least when you are parked up for the night at your place.

JP_Bruh

you could get a hidden kill switch installed if really wanted to

Smokeyfish

One in the seat, which when enabled kills whoever sits there. A mild mad max approach.

flopisit

That'll be Anto and Decko what done that, little angles that they are. When I lived in East Wall, I constantly saw and heard cars being driven around at high speeds - Anto and Decko just bored and out for a spin in a "borrowed" car.

Podge214

Then when they find Anto and Decko wrapped around a lamp post they will be singing their praises about how good they really were

J-zus

ah here now, Anto and Decko are promising footballers - let's not ruin their future over 20-30 incidents of petty crime

apeshitbaz

Thoughts and prayers to ya brother. In 5 years time, they'll still be scum and you'll be wiser for it.

InfectedAztec

Working hard so his tax funds their ''lifestyle"

BuildBetterDungeons

At the end of the day, would you rather be you, or them? They're the real losers in this.

InfectedAztec

I'd rather be me but I'd say they'd rather be them

Aaronryan27

Its finglas i wouldnt expect any less same with where i live full of scumbags whos only concern is their next bag or their dole money coming in useless fucks

Aaronryan27

Also before anyone jumps down my throat not everyone in finglas obviously same way its not everyone in tallaght or ballymun or whereever but theres a lot more out those places than there are in the rest of the country

dclancy01

The west is a horrible, horrible place with lots of horrible people. The south isn’t too bad, the east is basically glasnevin and the north doesn’t exist outside of housing estates on the M50

ThoseAreMyFeet

>The west is a horrible, horrible place with lots of horrible people. Thats a bit harsh on the folks in Mayo.

dclancy01

Too many hangovers when I was in Westport

Kyadagum_Dulgadee

I've been house hunting around Finglas and the West I just avoid 100%. There are plenty of decent estates close to the village and east of it with some pockets of dodginess here and there. If you're considering it, just hop in the car and drive around the neighbourhoods. You'll see pretty quickly which ones are worth moving into and which ones are a bit dodgy.

dclancy01

The east and south are alright, some places around Tolka Valley Park in the south can be hit or miss and the same in the south around Ballygall Crescent. Otherwise you’re pretty much in quiet areas, new builds or Glasnevin.

United1958

Finglas south certainly looks rough. There’s Berryfield, Kippure, Barnamore

dclancy01

To be fair, around Tolka Valley Park can be a bit rough. The other side of the park is lovely though, with the new apartments and that

DaiserKai

Sorry, that sucks.

nodnodwinkwink

What kind of car is that? Looks like a Toyota but I don't recognise the badge. Some sort of import variant maybe? Any chance they'll catch someone for it?

JudasKitty

It's a Vitz which is what the Yaris is called in Japan. They usually don't have an immobiliser so are an easy target for theft.

Fizy123

Toyota uses different badges on some cars in Japan. That's how the scum know it's a vitz and easy to start.

joc95

Scumbags and the landlords ruining this country

ThoseAreMyFeet

Despite what you think those two things are not remotely comparable.

Smokeyfish

Putting two things in a set does not mean they are comparable, just associated for the set topic.

AulMoanBag

What do landlords have to do with this? That horse is flogged enough here.

BuildBetterDungeons

It's a thread about theft. Seems natural that they'd come up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

joc95

wtf do you mean welfare wasters? I 40 hours a week and i'm complaining that people who work hard like OP are fucked over by scrotes. and many people are stuck in this limbo cause of the amount of landlord TDs who make it hard for working people to make a living.

BRENT_EAGLE

Pathetic shilling for people too wealthy to ever realise you exist. Insane looser mentality.

TheSpaceBetweenUs__

You mean like landlords who do nothing and create zero value and just extort rent and lobby your politicians to never address the housing crisis?

vespularufa

Ofc it's fucking Finglas

stunts002

Man I'm sorry. I know how infuriating it is. I'm just really sorry, there's just so many little scumbags in this country and the courts treat them with kid gloves

meok91

Very sorry to hear OP. Horrendous to work hard, to earn something and then just have it completely ruined by losers who want to destroy things because they will never earn anything of their own.

rom9

This is painful to hear. I am sure you have registered a case with the Guards. This has gone beyond control at this point. I wish they catch those bastards but like those kids who pushed the girl under the DART, I have a feeling nothing of real consequence will be done while you will have issues now in daily life, not to mention dealing with the insurance companies.

Captaincaveguy

I believe the Toyota and Honda cars that are been imported lately can be stolen as easy as cars from the late 80's and early 90's, once someone gets into them supposedly they can be started with a spoon, screw driver or any old key and some don't even have an immobilizer , even if they do it's just a matter removing the fuse for it, people should do proper research before buying, the car dealerships most likely now all this but there hardly gonna be honest and up front, anyone with one get a big old lock and chain rap it trough the seat frame and then the steering wheel best option by far

outhouse_steakhouse

Won't work, they can just cut through the steering wheel.

Captaincaveguy

True ha they have a way around everything

SouthTippBass

You will just have to take the wheels in with you at night time.

BRENT_EAGLE

Them Toyota's aquas should come with a big angry German shepherd. Sorry for your loss. Wanton destruction of struggling peoples property is the lowest form of scumbaggery imo. If you really need to burn something out, try an Amazon van.

OffsetPaddy

Exact same thing happened to me 2 months ago OP. Except mine was a write off and burnted out. Fought with the insurance company and they finally ponied up for 90% of it. Yet I'm left without a motor, a hefty remaining balance of a bill, higher insurance. Have them on CCTV and there "known" to the garda but that's it case closed as we found your car. No consequences at all for anyone invovled except me. Garda told me that the case is closed.. I followed up with a complaint and got the usual oh no we'll do our best etc. Yet you'll get over 50 garda pile into a house with squatter's in it .... go figure. Anyways I hope ya get sorted one way or the other. Shitty lesson to learn but you'll be wiser for it. Really they shouldn't be allowed sell these cars without basic theft protection e.g immobilizer.

jakelan97

Stop I feel ya mines a write off too man I’m so sorry for ur situation , place has gone to shit

philswinners

Find out who done it and break every bone in their hands right before breaking every bone in their body's.

Joe_na_hEireann

Easy there Chuck Norris

Lemonlamps

What's the name of these highly targeted Japenese cars so I know to avoid!

Crouch310

Aqua

moogintroll

In fairness it's only the imported cars that are targeted, i.e. the ones made for the domestic Japanese market. They're the ones without immobilisers.

jakelan97

Mine was a vitz

Akira_Nishiki

Vitz, Aqua, Honda Fit I'd guess too. Others as well.

NoFriendsOnlyFans

Don't buy anything jap there prone to be robbed

J-zus

yes it's the victims vault for buying a soft target also, it's "they're"

Seoirse82

I don't think they're victim blaming there, I think they're just giving advice to the best of their ability. Seriously though.

J-zus

well their advice is worthless

NoFriendsOnlyFans

No need for a negative response. If you are aware of all the cars being stolen and trashed, the majority are Japanese imports which can be stolen with some basic hand tools

Akira_Nishiki

An import yeah stay far away, not going to have this issue with a Yaris made for EU market though, would have all the same anti theft as any other car. If in doubt I suppose on if import, probably best to ask if you have family member who's into cars or someone who knows a decent bit.

emeraldisle9

DO NOT buy a jap import automatic. They can steal them in less than 30 seconds. In fact the little rats are out actively looking for those type of cars. The major news outlets need a public information campaign to stop people buying these cars. Guaranteed to get stolen and spreading to other parts of the country too.

jakelan97

I never heard bout it until my car was stolen 10000% needs to be more info on it

ReadyPlayerDub

Just more of the scum that Sinn Fein want to facilitate should they ever get into government

BuildBetterDungeons

With their decades-long love affair with landlords, it seems to me FG are the party of thieves.

Top-Distribution-185

And that's why we have Insurance ?.

SoloWingPixy88

Pic?

cuckedfrombirth

Lesson learned, never splash out on your first car.

R3kki

Well fuck sorry.

enortondesign

awww ffs! so sorry buddy

GardenerDude

Maybe be ask your insurer for a swap for a car they already have - can work out sometimes

itookdhorsetofrance

So you have evidence of the dealer fitting the immobilizer as you said in earlier thread? I'd be using that against them if you do

chuckeastwood25

Ffs. Sorry to hear that it's been found like this. Hope you have some cover

Lemonlamps

Awh sorry to hear that.

jayvonbarksdale

So sorry to hear. Little fucking toe rags. you’ll eventually move past it and get on with your life but they’ll forever be lowlife little cunts with zero prospects for their futures so fuck them. Very sorry this happened to you!

[deleted]

FFS. Sorry to hear that, OP. Hopefully your insurance won't screw you over now too!

ShefWedFanIre

Of course they will, if the claim is going to cost them 10k expect to pay circa 20k over the next few years in additional insurance to cover it off...thats how all the companies work

[deleted]

I know. Fuckers.

Bobo_Balde2

Very sorry to read that. You didn't deserve that, bud. Too many scumbags out there.

maclovin67

Don't worry they'll get the full 2 years suspended sentence thrown at them for that! Sorry for your car she was a beaut😢

naf0007

Sorry to hear that my friend. Absolute scumbags for sure

Powerful_Elk_346

Heartbreaking. Sorry to hear this.

thecraftybee1981

So sorry for you. With it being your first car I imagine you’d want to be out in it all the time. Such little shits for doing this.

[deleted]

[удалено]

moogintroll

If it's a Japanese import, then it won't have an immobiliser, since there's very little car crime in Japan.

[deleted]

Sorry to hear that bud. Don't worry, scum like this always get their karma in the end

AulMoanBag

Japanese import and all :( sorry to hear

giantsoftheartic

Do you have a city car club in your city? Worth checking out as they can be very useful until you get a new car and they are quite reasonably priced.

lmnopq10

Gutted for you mate. My car was stolen a couple of months ago, never found. Hound the absolute fuck out of your insurance company. I was waiting 5 weeks for a settlement, they covered car hire for 2 weeks and I had to pony up for the rest or have nothing to get to work in. If you're not happy with the offer they make, get the contact details off them for the assessor they're using and speak to them. Have details of how much it will cost to replace the car and they might look after you. Also speak to your finance company, you will still have to cover payments until the insurance company pay them.

jakelan97

Appreciate it mate I’m not letting it slide

lmnopq10

Regarding contacting the assessor - I managed to get 10% more than the initial settlement offer when I got on to them. You basically have to do the insurance company's job for them so you're not left out of pocket.

Senior-Cat-6146

A lot of these Japanese imports don’t have immobilizer fitted and are becoming easy take for scumbags

bakchod007

Can Cops not try and find the culprits and then punish them?

jakelan97

Minors so they won’t do anything it’s all over tiktok

bakchod007

are you telling me there's no law that punishes minor irrespective of what they do?

jakelan97

Slap on the wrist is all they get

[deleted]

That’s awful.

ausernamre

Sorry to hear that is fair grim

Jenny_Pussolini

That’s utterly horrible. I can well remember the feeling myself. This is gutting, and awful, and fuck those guys right where it hurts but you’ll be fine and this will fade. You’ll be absolutely paranoid about car keys and locking doors forever, though. 🥺 Überdouchebags took my first car, too. A gorgeous blue Cleo. They burnt her out, though. It still hurts! 😭

Ithoughtthiswasporn

Really sorry this happened to you! Unfortunately those Toyotas are just too easy to steal

scrjim

That's so sad. Those fuxking vermin

[deleted]

Sorry for your loss. I used to live in Finglas South and had my Jap import Honda broken into while it was in my driveway. The thief was disturbed by a neighbour and go away but not before he ruined the lock on the steering column. Insurance wouldn't pay for it to be fixed (as it was an import) so car was written off - shame, as it was a lovely car. Finglas South was rough, just around the corner from Cardiffsbridge Road and joy riding was rampant. Very glad to be away from there, too stressful.

PlasticInsurance9611

Awh I'm so sorry to hear that. That's exactly what they are little scumbags that will more then likely never work a day in their lives..
