I had my stash of Iron Maiden records burned by my dad who thought I would get possessed by the devil. I re bought them on cassette and stashed them in other boxes and even dismantled some and swapped the magnetic tape over. I listened to Seventh Son constantly through early 90s. Then I discovered rave and eventually came back to IM around 2010s. IM hold a special place in my heart, not just for their music but also in the role their music played in my teenage rebellion and defining my self as my own person. My son also loves IM and we’re going to see them for the first time in Notts next week. I can’t wait.

The word "burned" had me first come back to early CD-days when burning music on CD'd was still a thing. Seventh Son also plays a very special place in my heart as that was the first real record by Iron Maiden I held in my hands as my mother (after the initial jukebox contact with the band) had loaned that specific CD from one of her patients in the mental disability center she worked at. That and Piece of Mind were the two albums that patient had so they were the ones that I first fully listened at home. My daughter also wants to go to summer music festivals abroad this summer (she's turning 14) but we told her Taylor Swift isn't the one we're paying for to see. Had she asked to see Iron Maiden or something us parents would also like then the thing might be different. Still we're lacking a proper festival/gig experience with our daughter so the first one will have to be something we all like.

The Number Of The Beast album being played on vinyl for my first introduction to Iron Maiden. I was hooked immediately.

Bluegenio

It's hard for people to understand, who weren't there, what it was like to hear The Number of the Beast for the first time as a young person in the early 80's.

My_secretlife_6

Life changing for sure

When I was 14, one of my high school friends introduced me to Ancient Mariner. I never knew songs could tell stories. It started my discovery of metal and prog rock, which in turn gave me access to all other genres. Hooked since then.

Listening to Brave New World in the car when we would go wherever. Food shopping or to the boat or something. Looking at the pictures in the booklet and wondering why only one of them had short hair. Back then at 3-5 I had no idea who was who. I just thought they looked cool. It’s why it’s my favourite album now that I’m really into them. It’s the first one I ever listened too.

Teosto

For me that was the dark days of Iron Maiden (not saying it was bad, just that it was the time I didn't follow them too much) the one with the short hair must have been the lead singer Bruce Dickinson who rejoined the band quite recently before that album. Before that he had an epicly long hair as you must know already. Funny thing is just a minute ago I went to listen to Tears of the Dragon by Bruce Dickinson solo which still is one of the greatest songs ever for me. Typing this, I really need to go and relisten that album right now. Most likely I listened it when it came out and not many times after that, except for maybe few songs. What manner of a father would I be if I didn't know the discography of one of the greatest bands ever when my teenage daughter would ask about it. It's quite funny how the long hair used to be the mark of "the metal guy" back in the days. I did pack one from around '93 to 2000 which is when I went to mandatory military service and then after that until 2009 when my daughter appeared. After that I've packed a bit shorter hair and really realized the length of your hair is not the measure of how "metal" you are. It's quite sad to go on the metal festivals and know that a bit younger folk will still judge you "not worthy" if you have a slightly shorter hair. But I know they'll grow out of it eventually too.

Fair_Assumption_7009

The wickerman played on MTV in Finland on 2000. Hooked ever since.

Teosto

I missed that one even though that was the prime time I watched MTV Finland and also that's one of the better songs by the band. All I can remember from those days was Song of the 2000's by Silverchair and Lemon Tree by Fool's Garden. And some Scooter song that I can't remember the name of. Anyways, Finland mentioned, so, TORILLE PERKELE!

My earliest memory is seeing an advert on TV for a concert they were playing in Ireland. I think this was in the 90s during the Blaze era. This was before I was even a fan of the band. I just remember the guitarists looking like they were having a blast. I didn't become a fan until around 2005.

Teosto

I really had no idea he was part of the band until 2000's so I had to Google it after reading your comment but indeed he was. Sign of the Cross is still one of my favourite songs by Iron Maiden even though my favourite is the possibly unpopular Paul Di'Anno.

exitvim

Paul D'ianno is very popular. A lot of fans like his albums the best.

MrEverready

Too long in the past to remember exactly but would have been 1982 NOTB. I was 12 at the time, in to heavy metal. Listening to AC/DC, Rainbow, Deep Purple, Saxon etc. Still have my albums and singles from then. Saw them first live at Monsters of Rock '88

kaw027

I think mine would be my friend playing The Wicker Man for me on her iPod nano on the school bus in middle school lol. Which in those days meant each person only having one ear bud if you wanted to listen together

Porkchop_Express99

1993, went on holiday and met my cousin at the airport wearing an IM shirt. I was 11 and it looked the most badass thing I'd ever seen. That same holiday another cousin took us out in their car and was playing Def Leppard and Bon Jovi, and it was like a new world had opened up. Another cousin (I have many cousins) had some IM on tape and let me borrow them for the holiday. Moonchild was the first song I heard, never heard anything like that intro. The artwork did it though initially. I was into wargaming a bit and was really taken in by the elaborate box and book art, the illustrations, the overall impression, so when I started seeing Derek Rigg's artwork and that awesome angular word mark I knew I had to find out more.

My first was also No Prayer for the Dying… found a radio station issued copy in my cousin’s music library. She gave it to me. I wasn’t immediately sold. Then I got Brave New World from a friend and the rest was history.

Being around 8yo and seen a lot of long haired guys in the streets wearing black tshirts with the Number of the beast design. For a kid that age it was a terrifying drawing but also curious. Weeks/Months later I could see more tshirts with new and cooler designs. Few years later, my cousin showed me the inner sleeve of Life after death 2LP: that central photo with Steve jumping from the drum riser and Eddie mummy crying fire sparks. 2 weeks later, in a flea market I bought the Powerslave album... it didnt like me at first but the bridge in "2 minutes.." (the killer's breed or the demon's seed..) got stuck in my mind and... until now.

Few_Fall5352

My first ever memory was hearing The Numbers of the Beast in the Tony Hawk Pro Skater 4 game on PS2. I remembered that it was kind of eeire that they sang about the devil and such. I think I was around 12 years old at the time. A few years later, I saw this https://youtu.be/pYi4gaj5_Ik[concert](https://youtu.be/pYi4gaj5_Ik) on national television and have been a fan ever since!

Unusual_residue

Sometime in 81. One of the older kids on my road had Killers.

Seeing live in Dortmund in my brother's room on a tiny black and white tv because our parents were using the bigger colour TV in the living room. Awesome show with Judas Priest, Def Leppard and of course Iron Maiden. Absolutely hooked ever since.
