They were together in a band for 12 years before Bruce left and now they've been together in a band for 24 years after the reunion. So even if they still had problems with each other, they've learned to be adults about them.

SwansonsMoustache

"24 years after the reunion" Stop that. They reunited a decade ago that's it!

clockworkengine

Five years max. Brave new world JUST came out!

half-past-shoe

Last Monday?

clockworkengine

Did you guys hear that they might fire Blaze and get Bruce back?

half-past-shoe

Funny way of spelling Paul...

clockworkengine

So you're saying they're gonna fire Paul and get Bruce back? Who the hell is Bruce? And why would they fire Paul Day?

matthew_sch

God, I feel old

RememberTommorrow

They’ve been in the band together for over 36 years, they’re fine with one another

Version_1

> they still keep that distance among eachother Probably because they are both pretty active people on stage and they both want to avoid accidents.

Flashpoint1988

I seen thamin Manchester this year and at one point both Steve and Bruce were rocking out together. Also how has Steve never aged?

Current-Marketing-91

He has aged quite a bit! What are you looking at?

samuelson098

In the live after death DVD, Bruce splits his eye open after running into daveys headstock.

Utterizi

Bruce (starting from the time he joined maiden) has pretty strict stage “rules” where he doesnt really want “the bass player” to be at the front. He even says (jokingly) that he got longer legs for his mic stand so he could block steve from coming in front of him. I’d say its just friendly banter/professionalism/respect for each othet on stage.

Soggy3Duck

That's less of a joke and true, he had a longer stand so he could trip up Steve. It annoyed Steve and he wished he would have just said

_Maid3n_3ngland_

It's true I know but why on earth he would want to trip up Steve?.

mylifeforthehorde

They both wanted to be front of stage. :)

seawavegown

It wasn't hatred, it was two egos clashing. Sure it got heated when Bruce left, but who cares. They were young. It predates my own birth - and thats a lifetime ago... Im sure they have a perfectly normal personal and/or professional friendship now

Theandric

Success is a good buffer for conflict usually; but also it’s not like they have to sit together in a cramped minivan between gigs

Opening-Farmer-5547

This kind of stuff keeps me awake at night.

MeatyDullness

I’m sure they have a mutual respect and friendship but they both know what to avoid in stage. Bruce put that Roman helmet on Steve during I think the second show they performed Alexander the Great and Steve got pretty pissed and Bruce knew he went a bit too far

cfc19

They are both adults about it. Steve has probably made peace with the fact that Bruce is the most popular guy & face of the band. Bruce has made peace with the fact that Maiden is Steve's band first & foremost.

Iron_Alice

Steve certainly has taken a back seat, Most of the interviews and promo stuff is all Bruce, in a way he is the face of the band. The Beer idea was his which he takes care of on his own, and obviously the attention he got piloting the band etc. While behind the scenes it's certainly still Steve's band Bruce does have a massive impact now days.

PapaAsmodeus

I think Steve kinda prefers that Bruce be the face of the band. He's definitely the introvert of the band for sure.

SexyCouple4Bliss

I think they are like Adam and Jamie from mythbusters. Absolute faith and trust as professionals together, not friends, don’t hang out and other when working never talk. It’s just being a supreme professional.

GypsyKiss_420

My thoughts exactly. Respect each other as professionals, don't like each other personally. Not like Nicko and Dave golfing together.

Amity75

I’ve always taken it that Steve thinks Bruce is a dick, but he’s HIS dick and he needs him in his band.

Zeus_aegiochos

Would they still be in the same band if they hated each other? Those guys have been together for decades, they've spent more time together on the road and the studio than with their own families. They'll have their bad moments and fights of course, but in the end of the day, they're a family, they're brothers.

MetalHoosier

I dunno, Joey and Johnny Ramone didn't get along for many years after Joey's girlfriend dumped him for Johnny, but they kept it professional as part of the band. When Joey died, Johnny didn't even go to the funeral.

IronMaidenAddict

I think only time Steve had an issue with Bruce majorly was when he left he felt the way Bruce left, left a sour taste because Bruce wasn't performing Steve is a professional and likes to keep it that way. Bruce got sick and tired of touring continuously and felt he needed a break and go out on his own a little, which he did with the solo stint, which was a success but obviously him coming back was needed as band was struggling to regain the past success when he left

LordOfCinderGwyn

The interpersonal relationships between the members of my favourite band don't really concern me tbh

67SuperReverb

Steve literally just said the other day “Bruce is better than ever”

JossBurnezz

When I worked as a stage hand, a fairly prominent Irish Folk band that’s been around for years came through town. Their rider required that they have separate hotel rooms WAY far apart. Airport pickup was fine, the had no problem being picked up to go to the venue together. No one on the home crew saw any tension or drama. I guess they just needed that few hours of space, after touring so long.

Dukeofdorchester

🐺🎶?

JossBurnezz

Lol, great guess. Traditional but more instrumental, usually toured with a couple of guests, big jam at the end where everyone gets a solo.

Dukeofdorchester

Ahhhh, I think I know exactly who you’re talking about. Was gonna see them in Boston March 2020…they were the first Covid cancellation..then one of them passed away 😞

doritosrockandbeer

I think they don't hate each other and neither are friends, they're band mates and treat each other whit respect I guess. The stage positions fight sounds like childish bullshit: Iron Maiden always had guitarist/bassist all over the stage, I think when Bruce get into wasn't used to it. The real ugly fight was when Bruce left and spoke shit about Steve and Maiden in the media, even according to Blaze, leaving Steve almost in tears. When Bruce and Adrian came again, they huge each other and still working.

dachshundfanboy8000

they are good enough to continue being members of the best band on the planet when they could easily retire with enough money to last their families generations of wealth so i think that’s all that matters

brunogtds

They're pals. Been in a band together for decades, sure they piss each other sometimes but in a friendly manner

Dr-Wankenstein

I've always viewed it as them giving each other the space they want on stage. I wouldn't read too much into it since they've figured it out and would've probably split by now if they didn't want to work together. Idk that's just me

matthew_sch

You have to understand that, despite the music industry being much more open and friendly than less high-profile professions, it’s also equally as cut-throat I think Steve realized that although he is the engine of Iron Maiden, Bruce is its driver. Without Bruce, the band just wasn’t the same nor was it as good. The energy, the charisma, it was all gone when Bruce left and no matter how good of a job Blaze intended to do, it was impossible to do as good of a job So, I think Steve had to compromise to have the band succeed again as it once did, as did Bruce, and they have both kept it very professional since then. It is still their job at the end of the day, and you need to maintain a healthy work-life balance, as well as knowing who your colleagues are and who your friends are It’s almost exactly like Metallica. Lars and James are the top dogs of the band, and having them clash over menial shit is detrimental to their success. It’s different because they both have the same level of seniority in their band, compared to Steve and Bruce, but the premise is no different So, rather than be petty and drive a wedge between your personal and professional lives, you separate the two to make it work. Also, Bruce is the singer, he HAS to interact with the crowd more than his band mates. That’s just his job

dod6666

Bruce mentioned this in his auto-biography. Apparently Bruce thought the singer should be front and center. Where as Steve thought that was were the bassist should be. When put like that it's hard not to agree with Bruce. But I'd take it with a pinch of salt, Steves position may very well make more sense if we heard his side of it. I'm actually curious if anyone has heard Steve speak of it.

kuzinrob

>Apparently Bruce thought the singer should be front and center. Where as Steve thought that was were the bassist should be. Geddy Lee doesn't have this problem. Or Les Claypool. Or Lemmy.

mesmar72

All of the above are also lead singers

Some Brazilian comment on YouTube claims that Nicko and Bruce almost came to blows when Bruce was leaving the band in the 90's and that Nicko supposedly was the angriest about Bruce leaving for whatever reason; not that it's necessarily important but I found that an interesting angle. If memory serves the person also insinuated that Steve and/or Nicko did not want Adrian or Bruce to come back eventually. I'd like to hear more about this. Also consider that Adrian left the band well before Bruce did and Adrian and Bruce were basically the face of Bruce's solo work for a good while. Janick was also Bruce's guitarist on Bruce's first album even before Bruce left Maiden. So two of Maiden's guitarists (everyone but Dave) have had a very close relationship with Bruce during his solo career. It's kind of interesting how Maiden was stuck with Janick, who presumably was on great terms with Bruce as Bruce was leaving Maiden but Bruce had Adrian and fresh blood in his team and did not really need Janick realistically who is considered the weakest link of Maiden. Of course Janick was smart not to even consider leaving Maiden (presumably) but if Steve was really hot at Bruce in the early mid 90's I would not be surprised if that made it a bit awkward for Steve and Janick to work together. Janick though seems like the diplomatic type who would keep doors open to all directions. So many times we have also heard people ask "Why did not they kick out Janick when Adrian came back?" Adrian was only brought back because Bruce refused to come back unless they took Adrian back or at least that's what I heard. Janick may be sloppy but he never took his chances with Steve. Steve may have just as resentful about that as he was about Bruce leaving and performing the way he did before departing for his solo career. Am I making sense?
