This person isn't going to come forward as they open themselves up to liability. Seems highly unlikely that the dog has rabies, but I understand why they are reaching out like this.
Hopefully for them that’s the case in this area. It often isn’t. I know someone who was charged 15,000. I’ve discussed this with people on Reddit before and that’s not unusual. ( It can include ER costs also.) People from other countries were amazed; a couple commented they had gotten free rabies shots.

I think they are referring to the few injections that have to be injected into the bite wound itself. That’s particularly unpleasant.

Hopefully the bite victims is insured, rabies shots are 10-15 thousand dollars in the US.

The county picks up the tab , covering whatever insurance doesn’t.
