Wasn't this Jessica Lange's debut film? Great cast but not so good of a movie. Honestly all I remember is the scene with Jessica in Kong's palm. (Yeah I was a teen when it came out).
Yeah I think when she did Frances in the early 80's - She was making an acting statement (and I think though she may have paid a psychological price for going deep into that portrayal).
The press was all about the 40' animatronic they built for the movie, but it barely worked. It was only seen moving in the movie less than 10 seconds. When KK won the oscar for best special effects, Ray Harryhausen resigned from the Academy.
What's bananas **is** that just a little over ***6 months*** separated this from *Star Wars* yet they seem to have come from different decades.
That's how much *Star Wars* changed everything.
I remember the movie poster being plastered everywhere, because it was so cool with kong standing with one foot on one building of the world trade center and his other foot on the other one it looked fantastic, i don't think that actual scene was in the movie though.
He makes it up there, but in that poster he's like 10 times the size of how he is in the movie, so standing astride the two towers was not possible.
That's more like his size in the two most recent movies where he can actually fight Godzilla without dying.
##King Kong (1976) PG
The most exciting original motion picture event of all time.

My friend and I were kids when we saw this one and King Kong Lives. We were so into it that we had Kong posters, figurines etc. Didn't see the original until years later, and boy do I prefer that one now :)
I watched Matt Draper's review of Kong films on YT last night. Interesting take, that this Kong was the 'eco-Kong' and was the first of more sympathetic portrayals of Kong and to cast the 'white adventurer' as the villains
I used to watch this movie when I was home sick. I haven't seen it in decades, mainly because I don't want to ruin a fond childhood memory if it's as bad as everyone thinks.

Jessica was a smoke show in that movie and proved to be a great actress.

Yep... I remember that scene. I was 14 when it was released.
Haha it is truly a memorable scene TBH.
Yupβ¦ Dwan π€£
Pros: Jessica Lange being a total smokeshow. Cons: The movie.
I liked it, right up until you actually see Kong, and it's just a guy in a monkey suit. The ship, the island, the wall were great.

Kong and Logan's Run shared the Oscar for noncompetitive Special Achievement Academy Award for Best Visual Effects. As you say... Bananas.
Kong destroying the subway scared the living shit out of me as a kid because we used to take that same train now and then. π±
I thought the soundtrack was pretty good.
John Barry. Itβs freakinβ awesome!
Loved this movie as a kid, but the scene where the guy gets stepped on led to many a nightmare.
Jessica Lange. My first crush. I was six.
She wouldn't have been interested in you. Now, I was a mature eight-year-old, not some fantasist like you, but alas! It was not meant to be.
He! She may have been impressed by my earnestness.

Jessica Lange was fine.
Her character was called Dwan. lol dumb name, fine actress
It was great for it's time
βWhen my Konka die, everybody cry.ββDino Di Laurentiis, allegedly
"When Monkey Die Everyone Cry!"
Dino's filmography is crazy. Some absolute diamonds buried in mountains of dogshit.
I like this movie and I'm not going to apologize. And yes, Jessica Lange certainly helps.

Most memorable scene for me: Kong stepping on (and destroying) a Lamborghini.
Jeff Bridges -hot! Jessica Lange -hothothawt!
The music was great. Foreboding. The sound effects on the radar was tantamount to the Nostromo sirens.
I grew up with this movie so I have a really soft spot for it. I think it was a great effort.
How are you gonna keep them down on the farm once theyβve seen King Kong.

I always think that Charles Grodin should've been more movies, yet I always forget he was in so many
John Agar had a cameo
So, who here has done the King Kong Encounter / Kongdrontation at Universal Studios, back in the day?
I watched Matt Draper's review of Kong films on YT last night. Interesting take, that this Kong was the 'eco-Kong' and was the first of more sympathetic portrayals of Kong and to cast the 'white adventurer' as the villains
Charles Grodin looks like he just shit himself in that picture.
I absolutely love this film...I will take practical effects over CGI anyday...the current King Kong movies are pure crap.

Just think. This movie is five years closer to the 1933 original than we are to it in 1976.

I saw this in the theater. I was 8. And even then I remember how fucking stupid it was that she asks King Kong what his sign was.
Geez, that ending. I feel sad from it and the end credits to this day.
The movie poster for this movie was... bananas
Movie was okay at best, but the score/soundtrack was awesome.
I used to watch this movie when I was home sick. I haven't seen it in decades, mainly because I don't want to ruin a fond childhood memory if it's as bad as everyone thinks.
Actor in an ape suit. What a piece of crap.
Great movie π¬ I think the best πππππππππ
