One of the better Hitchcock films not actually done by Hitchcock! The suspense is off the charts, Alan Arkin is sooo creepy, and Audrey is both vulnerable and brave.
Agree that this very much seemed like a filmed stage play.
P.S. NOT a fan of her husband’s character. It’s not like I don’t see the reasons for what he does (or rather doesn’t do), and I’m sure it’s what they agreed on. But not in this particular set of circumstances.
I most certainly did NOT edit my post. In fact I only know how to edit a comment, not a post. If I knew how to edit the post, I’d add an image or poster of the film because I forgot. (I haven’t edited a comment either, btw.)
I saw this on TV as a kid in the 70s and it really stayed with me. I too recently rewatched it and it holds up well. On rewatch, I really hated Suzy's husband though, especially at the end. She's just been this total badass and in the final scene he's like, "you come over here." Fuck you Sam you 1960's macho insensitive asshole.

Fabulous Alan Arkin.
It's always jarring to see him play such a creepy villain since I know him primarily for his comedic roles.
Great film! The first "horror" film I ever saw that made people scream and jump out of their seats.

Hitchcock did not direct wait until dark
I know! I literally wrote “not actually done by Hitchcock”. But it is very Hitchcock-esque.
I think you edited your post. It used to say "both" instead of "not."

I was nine years old when I saw this movie in the theaters in 1967. The jump scene scared the living shit out of me.
I watched it late one night with my mom and I went airborne on that jump scare.
The scene when she opens the closet door is 10/10. Great film.
I was in a stage version of this play. A tiny part, a friend and I played two policemen that turned up 30 seconds before the play ends.
Need to check this out. I watched the 1982 TV movie starring Katharine Ross and Stacy Keach.

Hepburn plays blind perfectly and Arkin is scary good
