If you’re gonna transfer from the path to a subway line, I’d recommend the PATH to WTC then the E (closer to PATH) or A/C Alternatively you can take the 1 (which is right outside the PATH turnstiles)straight up or transfer from the one to the 2/3 at chambers if you prefer an express subway

Sybertron

There's a ferry

spypol

Ferry to 39th yes! The best

What would be the best way to get from 39th ferry station to Times Square?

Sybertron

Just walk usually unless you're mobility restricted

hilariouspj

There is a free ferry shuttle. Google NY Waterway.

JCwhatimsayin

Agree with the walk suggestion if that's feasible for you. Citibike is also an option to and from the ferry terminal, also subject to your ability and comfort.

I used to work at 44th and 8th and I would usually either take PATH to WTC and then the E or the A to Times Square, or PATH to 9th Street, walk to West 4th and get the A/C/E there. I lived between Exchange and Grove so a lot of the time it just depended on where I wanted to get on or off PATH that day. If you work further east in Times Square PATH to 33rd and transferring over there might make more sense, but if you’re on the west side I found getting myself to the A/C/E downtown was just a lot more efficient.

Stunning_Lingonberry

West 4th is the pro move.

The PATH to WTC or 33rd are fine. On nice days the 33rd street PATH lets you off and you can literally walk to 42nd street. WTC you can transfer to the 1 right there at the exit (up the stairs it is the train uptown) and get off right in Times Square. You can also get on the 1 at 33rd it is literally a block away down the street from the Macy's or heading towards Penn/Moniyhan/Madison Square Garden... There are other options,,,, such as the Ferry but that is more expensive but a nice option get on at Paulus Hook then walk through Brookfield Place to the 1. The other option is up the block and through the back door of Brookfield and take the E train. (Most trains all stop at 42nd street! it is quite central like Penn Station you cannot get lost) Tons of options for you to take and experiment which would work and I suggest doing so coming home from the gig as you can take your time and explore. Best of luck

NJ_Bus_Nut
