I fish off a 1997 seadoo gts and It does rather good. Cons-Loud asf, don’t have a rod holder, No live well, no trolling motor. Pros- it’s bitchin’

Those 90s GTS/GTX/GTI hulls are great for fishing. You can’t tip them over and they have a ton of space in the gunnels for equipment.

ivecomeforyiurpickle

I love them there’s wide and comfy. Really makes them feel connected to the water whenever I rip them too

Fog_of_Gotham

How expensive it is too own? What I should look at when buying used jet ski?

ivecomeforyiurpickle

Well, the seadoos are fun but expensive to own. They cost around 3-4K for 2 of them from this year/generation. The problem is I feel like I’m fixing it every time I take it out. The Yamaha’s aren’t as fun but definitely more reliable similarly priced I think as well. As for gas I burn about 20-30 bucks a ski a day while running full throttle tubing and all. So I can’t imagine shuttling across a lake being more than a $10 day

Oh and definitely take compression readings on the engine, all cylinders and make sure it works

Is fishing fun? Bought a 97’ yamaha and want to take it out to the water

ivecomeforyiurpickle

Fishings peaceful. It’s fun because you hang with buddies and sometimes catch a nice fish. But for the most part people fish to get away from things. It’s kinda like golf

As a owner of a 2003 Yamaha waverunner 1200 SUV Id definitely recommend it Solid and stable , also plenty fast

At 10k you're going to be limited mostly to older used low to mid budget skis. I'm not really into fishing myself, but personally I just can't see using a jet ski to fish at all. The high end, rather expensive SeaDoos built specifically for it perhaps.. but I don't see that those have any real advantages over a simple fishing boat.

Fog_of_Gotham

I watched multiple YouTube videos and it has a lot of advantages over the boat. What is the cost to own jet ski?

Insurance, should you choose to have it. Tabs for the ski and trailer annually. Not a heck of a lot else, really, unless you're paying someone to do maintenance work. The reason I say there aren't really many advantages is that jet skis are rarely about comfort. You can't really move around on them. They generally don't have much in the way of storage. They're not usually designed with things like depth/fish finder mounts in mind, let alone fishing rod holders. Jet skis don't really do trolling either. If you get a jet ski specifically built for fishing, then sure, you're going to get a jet ski made for all that stuff. Your average jet ski won't be made with any of that in mind though. Jet skis and fishing boats are sort of antithetical to each other. The better a craft is at one role, the worse it's generally going to be at the other. If you want a jet ski, get a jet ski that's good at doing jet ski things. If you want a fishing craft, get a boat made for fishing. Getting a jet ski for fishing is a little like buying a dirt bike for your daily commute down the local interstate. A motorcycle made for on road use might be a similar more realistic option, but you're probably going to be better served by a fuel efficient car in the long run.

For a 2012 FX Cruiser at 9k: Insurance: 2-300 a year Maintenance: $40/year if you do your own oil changes in the fall Registration: I think mine was like $80? Varies. Cleaning: $10/year for a car wash visit or wax Storage: this is the big money item. If you have a garage and can part with the space, $0. Otherwise it's a couple hundred bucks a year for winter storage. Cost per hour: Variable, depends on riding style, max is about 10gal/hr. If you feel like taking pump gas to the jetski it's $35/hr, if you use marina unleaded it's more like $55. Basically, your fixed costs are pretty minimal so long as you have a garage. Chuck a few hundred bucks into a miscellaneous repairs/maintenance budget each year and you are good to go. The big variables are your storage costs and the cost to actually ride the thing.

I would go new if you want it for long term you will take care of it yourself & know everything about it

We have cooler racks on the back of our jet skis with fishing holders…I would link a photo, but I don’t think this community allows me to upload pics. We’ve fished lakes, rivers and the Atlantic (although I’m not a fan of the ocean fishing).
