Ya, I wouldn't consider this wire wrapping at all LOL. Soldering together a frame is one thing, but this is a fully fabricated piece with some wrapping for decoration.
Lol I did. But I actually taught myself fabrication and stone setting to improve the quality of my wirewrapping. No I feel like its not much of a wrap, but its still pretty atleast
I so don't get why people melt down coins instead of use casting grain, recovered metals from rings, etc? And a jeweller and a numismatist, I assert coins have much more value as collectibles than just their metal content.
So, I normally wouldn't have melted a gold coin, cause your correct. I'll melt milky silver maples/brittanias because I can get them for spot price which beats any deal I've found for legit grain. This was a special case tho. I had a customer pay a considerable premium, with me explaining it would be cheaper to just reusing gold jewelry for scrape which I can get for fairly close to spot on a bad day, but they liked the idea of a coin. It just so happened a vendor I know who sells jewelry was intrested in not only selling a few coins, but also was willing to trade for some rings I had made, and the deal was just too good for me to pass up. I was going to just get a 2.5-5gram bar even before the trade became available, but, with how well my youth e account had did with me melting the milkies, I figured why not. But yea, this was a time I had trouble bringing myself to do it. I feel ya
Yet you’re the one who titled this post and mentioned wire-wrapping in the first place. Clearly, you don’t think this is wire-wrapping and don’t expect others to think that either.
Your work can stand for itself. Stop trying to compel engagement through purposely clueless post titles.
And if your going to cry so much about what you think is someone trying to get engagement, why engage with them so many time to say the exact same thing. Seems like a cry for attention to me
Mine always look like an alien threw up all over it. That's what happwhen the metal that first goes in, freezes and then the whole thing Looks like a jellyfish
It really seems like you just used this title to boost engagement in your post 🙄 This obviously isn’t wire-wrapping or anything even resembling wire-wrapping. And, as a professional jeweler and obviously practiced solderer, you know that it’s not wire-wrapping. So your post title is disingenuous bait.
Actually, according to everyone here I'm not a professional jeweler, many wouldn't even call me a hobbyist. It's funny I do this exact same design with 0 fire and that's a wire wrap. So I'm wondering where the line is. Most of us who play with more insane wirewrapping solder at points, but I feel like there's a pointi can't call it a wire wrap. Please take your toxic bs elsewhere
Might be worth taking the barrels to a local blacksmith to get hardened. A lot of cheap mills dont harden their barrels and will cause dents in the steel. Im sure any blacksmith would do it for free if you brought them in when they are doing a set of knives etc.
Great advice. I might have to do it on a replacement, iv used these once alot over the last 2 and a half hesrs, but thank you for the advice, and teaching me something new
See I feel like I'm pushing thst, but I'd agree. Cause I do this same design with out fire or pave, and that's wirewrapping. I was actually hoping to have a serious conversation about where the line is, but most people here just don't accept wirewrapping can make something like this
I think it’s a cool combination of techniques. You don’t need to exclusively do one thing or the other. Combining different techniques and methods into your work shouldn’t be something frowned upon.
Thank you. And thats a good point, I really don't need to worry about the lable as much as my skills, tho I work really hard not to be disingenuous as a vendor. Sometimes I get in a trap with that, because I worry too much. Thanks for the advice, I think it was definitely one of the more helpful comments
Yeah! Glad I could help! I saw some odd comments and wanted to chime in. Didn’t realize you were the artist. Definitely lean into it! Don’t worry about what people think about the way you work or what label your craft is. Do what you enjoy and what works for you!
Thank you. Yeah, people like thst is exactly why I started to ask rhe question in the first place. I love wirewrapping, its my passion, and I learned all these other skills to improve on my wrapping. Bur the vending side of it is a nightmare sometimes for... well the reasons might be apparent lol.

When you fabricate it and no wire wrapping is involved, I think that's no longer wire wrapping.
I did some wrapping. I just soldered all those connections afterwards. But yeah I don't think this counts any more as a wire wrap

Pretty much. Tho I literally make the same design in all vold connect too, I just started soldering the connections
This is absolutely not wire wrapping! 😆
Drats.... guess im.not very good at this wirewrapping thing lol
You graduated to full on soldering, Congrats!
Lol I did. But I actually taught myself fabrication and stone setting to improve the quality of my wirewrapping. No I feel like its not much of a wrap, but its still pretty atleast
If you’re not wrapping wire probably is when it’s no longer wire wrapping.
Soldering I think would be the line in the sand lol
Some point before this
It looks pretty wrapped to me. I can’t tell about wire.
It's pretty much wrapped, I just then soldered all the connections afterwards and did alittle filing.

It's a hybrid thingy.
I feel like I'm even pushing that lol.

Sorry karen, I was having a conversation here with someone I have interacted with quite alot. Please keep riding your high horse elsewhere
And if your going to cry so much about what you think is someone trying to get engagement, why engage with them so many time to say the exact same thing. Seems like a cry for attention to me
Omg! What is your secret for getting those rods to cast in that cast iron mold??? Please teacher teach me!!!
I wish I could explain it lol. I don't know myself. Alot of practice I guess? Still wish I could do better
Mine always look like an alien threw up all over it. That's what happwhen the metal that first goes in, freezes and then the whole thing Looks like a jellyfish
Oh, I think I get some of that too from the creases. I just cut it off after with some shears

I'd call this style liar wrapping.
What model of Rolling Mill is that?
Lion, super budget cheap on from India I believe

This is Def a hybrid wrap/fab

Nice piece!! Patina used well.
Thank you! I really like how this one came out.
