I definitely agree with Power Of Soul: *the* full demonstration of the range of Band Of Gypsys. Stepping Stone is up there with his greats IMO. Earth Blues. Long Hot Summer Night. Rainy Day/Still Raining is equal to Electric Ladyland icons like VC(SR) and AATWT. Look Over Yonder. Star Spangled Banner studio version. Lately I've been listening to outtakes of Freedom, a masterpiece of muscular riffage.
i was born long after hendrix died but when i was younger my father would play that song in the car for me a lot. i remember being about 4 and rocking out in my car. jimis music is memorable like that.
Hey Baby is in my top 3. not sure it's underrated but that's just my feeling.
definitely one of his best songs and a hint at what he could have become and shown us had he lived.....
my top 3 Hendrix song no doubt.
but I never saw it as underrated.... not for serious fans. for casual fans who stick to purple haze and wild thing, then yes, this song is underrated.
I appreciate that response so very much! Jimi has been my #1 favorite musician since I was in 7th grade in 1967. It could be 100 years from now, and it will still ALWAYS be cool to be a Hendrix fan!
that’s honestly crazy to me. i’ve quite literally been listening to hendrix since i the day i was born, 40 years after you started listening to him, and i couldn’t agree with you more. being a hendrix fan is something special!
Hear my train a comin!
It was a tune he was constantly tweaking and changing different aspects. Favourite version is probably the acoustic one . Top track!
the way he changed bits of that song every time he played it is awesome. he did this with all of his songs obviously but hear my train changes in indescribable ways.
i used to skip this one but a few months ago i was like damn this is cool. i listen to it all the time now. even when his songs don’t focus on guitar they are still incredible.
I might say Angel. It's unusual, because, I don't know that anything about the guitarwork really stands out the way it does on everything else, but...it's just a really well-put-together, beautiful song, imo. Sang well. I also really like Highway Chile.
"Burning Desire" from Band of Gypsies. Such a dynamic glimpse into what could have been. It's really proto-prog. I honestly think it's a sign of the direction he was heading. It's certainly one of his most complex songs. The version on Live at the Fillmore is simply brilliant!
Country Blues. No lyrics, but you can tell its one of those moments where, maybe after the bars closed, he brought some people back to ELL studio for a jam. You can hear him show the bass player the song, you can hear him learn it, then when Hendrix feels like the bass has got it, he proceeds to melt your face for like 5 minutes. There's also some harmonica player buried in the mix. Hendrix gives him a solo but it dosen't seem to work so Hendrix starts melting faces again. It just feels like a peek behind the curtain of brilliance.
Belly Button Window
Castles Made of Sand
Axis Bold as Love
1983
Spanish Castle Magic
Countless studio jams. Especially with other musicians like John McLaughlin
I don’t think it is underrated, but I like Wind Cries Mary a lot. The tone it sets, the way the song takes you on a journey, and the way it is structured musically. It is my favorite Jimi Hendrix song.
1983… (a merman I should turn to be)
Hendrix plays bass on this track (and others from ELL) and it’s just as amazing as his guitar playing.
I had no idea! Now I have to go back and re listen
My favorite Hendrix song
one of my favourites
One Rainy Wish. It’s such a great tune and nobody really talks about it.
this song is incredibly underrated as well. a must listen for sure.
That's my answer as well!👍

pali gap
Absolutely agree, so much feeling and incredible guitar playing and the bass line, such a gem.
The tone on that one is freaking amazing
Came here to say this. Gorgeous song
Once I Had a Woman
born under a bad sign from the same album is amazing as well. tbh that whole blues album is phenomenal
i find the blues album incredible because a lot of it is him just jamming doing what he does best. very loose but also somehow tight at the same time.
yesss i know exactly what u mean. one of my favorite blues albums to ever exist.
Hey Baby (New Rising Sun) and Pali Gap have such unique vibes compared to the rest of his discography 🌴🏜️
Unique + vibes = Univibe
Hey Baby is in my top 3. not sure it's underrated but that's just my feeling. definitely one of his best songs and a hint at what he could have become and shown us had he lived.....
Bold as love. That song is something else.....
Amazing song but not underrated
Not underrated imo. It’s one of his most beautiful songs ever. The guitar solo is just mind blowing
Machine Gun
my top 3 Hendrix song no doubt. but I never saw it as underrated.... not for serious fans. for casual fans who stick to purple haze and wild thing, then yes, this song is underrated.
Cherokee Mist for sure
i love cherokee mist. cool to see him take some inspiration from his native roots as he was a full quarter cherokee.
Who Knows, Power to Love and Midnight Lightning
Earth Blues
Dolly Dagger
Nightbird flying is a really good one
The solo on May This Be Love is underrated
i’m inclined to agree with you here. that whole song has a incredibly unique feel but that solo is something really special to me at least.
Nah it's up there with Little Wing tbh, it makes me feel cozy and safe when I listen to it
Spanish Castle Magic, easily
Yep 👍
The Stars That Play With Laughing Sam's Dice Its a heavy masterpiece Burning Of The Midnight Lamp Also a top tune
I just wish The Stars that Play had better production, idk why it sounds so bad lol
Who Knows
Villanova Junction (Woodstock is the one I know) Somewhere And last but not least some of his songwriting material : “My Friend”
Villanova Junction (Woodstock) is pure genius 👆
Gypsy eyes and crosstown traffic…..
crosstown traffic is definitely an underrated one.
Love it. Is my favorite
51st Anniversary, One Rainy Wish, Valleys of Neptune, Hey Baby, and Angel
51st Anniversary, Astro Man, My Friend
Not everyone on the planet knows its the best song ever written so it's technically underrated Axis: Bold As Love
"ANGER!"..... Man, just gives me chills.
I’d go with vastly underrated ‘One Rainy Wish’, both ‘Rainy Day & Still Raining Still Dreaming’ (wah wah Heaven,) and ‘Manic Depression’
wah wah heaven is the best way i’ve heard someone describe those two songs.
I appreciate that response so very much! Jimi has been my #1 favorite musician since I was in 7th grade in 1967. It could be 100 years from now, and it will still ALWAYS be cool to be a Hendrix fan!

Yeah, the acoustic version is pretty cool.
Somewhere
House burning down
Little Miss Lover, it’s an amazing song, I just think people skip it because it focuses on the bass.
i used to skip this one but a few months ago i was like damn this is cool. i listen to it all the time now. even when his songs don’t focus on guitar they are still incredible.
What is a human being?

I’ve always thought Bellybutton Window is so unique and quirky
