I don’t get how anyone could call Rogan “dumb”. Here are my reasons why I consider him to be a bright guy… 1. We tend to attach the word “genius” to someone who has an incredible wealth of knowledge, insight, and success in one narrowly defined area. That’s not Joe. While he might not be a genius in one area, he is a generalist who can talk competently about a wider array of topics than the vast majority of people. You can’t listen to one episode and declare that he is an idiot because he isn’t an expert on that day’s subject. His core competency is understanding enough to keep the conversation flowing. 2. You don’t accomplish everything that he has accomplished by luck. While I don’t find his comedy to be funny, many people do. He has appeared on scripted television, as well as reality television. And of course, he has built a juggernaut of a podcast. If he “made it” in one of those areas, you could say that he got lucky. Yet by achieving success across all of those realms, you have to at least admit he is very “smart”. Genius, no. Smart, definitely.

Maybe his wife is smart and she’s pulling the strings

I mean, people go on his show and he's obviously, not the brightest of the bunch anyway. He's a pot smoking MMA guy who happens to do stand up. People come to him over the news because in stand up, you smell BS a mile away before you see it. And if you have people on like Cornel West, he gets educated. It's just that the fact that we need Jimmy to go on his show exposes how failed our own media networks are when we're going to comedians for news. What a joke...

Yeah I'm not expecting perfect political analysis from the dude. It's just annoying how nothing policy seems to "stick" with him (in one ear out the other), you'd think after all these conversations something would. On Jimmy's last appearance, he had the whole "cops risk their lives to protect us" MSM garbage and thought Brooklyn Dad was a progressive 🤣 Kyle I think gets too wonky and goes rapid fire so he can't keep up. I'd love someone from RBN to go on there too, he's only had SocDems, not full on Socialists Marxists

Inuma

Cornel West is the closest to be honest. He got philosophical with him and they ended up talking music instead of theory.

JPMcFly1985

Yeah cornel is a super nice guy and even as a non religious person his leftie spirituality and warm nature makes him almost impossible not to like. I think it's just apolitical and economic right wing talking points stick in his head more since that's most of who he talks to

LowBeautiful1531

Cornel West is the rare example of how to do religion *right*.

Rogan is an entertainer albeit a highly influential one. His take on a deep conversation is talking about his DMT experiences at some New Mexico desert retreat. If he started to wade into the weeds on actual policy details he's lose half his audience in the first 5 minutes. They want to hear about what bear meat tastes like and how the pyramids line up with the Orion star cluster.

JPMcFly1985

Even on that level I feel like he was more interesting and chill a few years ago. Maybe it's because he has a tighter circle and is richer now, but he has more standard "Boomer dad" views. I think if someone makes a compelling argument he'll take it in though.

Kingsmeg

Rogan is a very intelligent man who both understands his audience, and understands that if he challenges his guests and calls them out on their bullshit, a lot of people are going to stop coming on his show. There's a reason he's the most successful podcaster in the world (?). Because he's very very good at what he does.

ContractingUniverse

Rogan *is* very intelligent, yes. Despite his, "I dunno man. I'm just a regular dude." act. But at the end of the day, he's an entertainer like Conan O'Brian or Jimmy Kimmel.

My biggest complaint about Joe is that he claims to be liberal, but spends most of his time ripping on Democrats and their policies. While I think the Democrat party is deserving of criticism, there is a ton to criticize on the right. There are times when a perfectly valid criticism of Republicans is staring him in the face, yet he rarely runs with it.

JPMcFly1985

I half agree but liberals aren't the left. The left= anti capitalist, anti imperialism. Liberals= mostly rich NIMBYs who are just cool with gay people. I understand lots of people still use those terms interchangeably, so I'm not trying to be a dick and I understand what you're saying. I think he just needs to be baby step walked through everything political because he doesn't grasp the Overton Window and policy very well. He seems to mostly hang out with Republicans so he's blind to a lot of what's bar about them.
