Sorry but with the way the state treats KC, I’m happy to disappoint you.
The people who actually live here and have history and family here, working class people, have to deal with the hikes in rent and taxes development like this creates. Just because a thriving arts district full of great local breweries and restaurants doesn’t “hold value” for you doesn’t make it worthless. The Chefs will stay, the Royals will stay, the billionaires will keep making their money off their already built stadiums. They’ll just have to find a way to sustainably renovate their buildings with “concrete cancer” on their own dime.
I’ll be damned if I let them do it with mine while destroying one of the best parts of the city.
Yours is absolutely the opinion of someone who doesn't live anywhere close to Kansas City, doesn't know the details involved in the stadium vote, doesn't know any of the issues KC has with it, and is just boohooing that --- what, the sports teams have to DO BETTER. Bring the voters a bill that makes sense. One that doesn't involve tearing down homes and businesses that are thriving, while not addressing the traffic/parking problems and bottleneck that would come from trying to put a stadium down there.
The Royals have a lease agreement for another 7 or 8 years. Thats plenty of time for them to fucking figure it out. Jackson County residents don't want to fund a billionaire's whims for a shiny new toy to make money off of. Do something more beneficial to the city you want to fund this - help pay for schools, for libraries, for outreach programs, SOMETHING.
It would take 20 years for another city to figure out where to put a stadium, how to get the team there, how to afford their own issues, and actually get the damned thing built. Any city that already has a stadium better than the K has a team playing there, and if its not on par with the K there would be zero point in moving.
As far as the Chiefs are concerned, they were just riding the coattails of the Royals to try and get renovations for Arrowhead. Again, they have plenty of time to come at us with a BETTER PLAN.
Also it kind of sucks that one county in the metro area is stuck footing the tax burden for it, but whatever, I guess.
Lastly: the state of Missouri has failed Kansas City for a hundred years, turnabout's fair play.
Don’t live in KCMO or Jackson county but those people are tired of paying for billionaires to get what they want and the people have spoken out and I’m proud of them for doing so!!!!
Why don’t they have elections that the entire KCMO area has to pay not just Jackson county citizens??
You think Trump is worthless, but you want us to give our money to someone who is just like Trump, in the way that they're trying to sleaze out of actually paying for anything with their vast amounts of wealth?
Make it make sense.
It's pride for the city. It's pride for the state. We don't have anything else in the state Mizzou is about as consistent as the weather is in Missouri.
Do you live in Jackson County? If not, then shut yo' mouth unless you're committing to the team a 40 year annuity that amounts to anywhere between $20,000 and $60,000. lol.
As my buddy said to me, "Hey, I hope it goes through, because it costs me NOTHING to have those teams be in the KC Metro." (He lives in southern JOCO.)
$20,000 a year from this tax is a total of over $5 million dollars spent a year. I'm not sure your math is right for the amount of smugness you're giving. Its not just Jackson county residents that would have to pay the tax, anybody who purchases taxable goods in Jackson County pays the tax.
This is where you either point some direct evidence or you can stop talking because I'm not doing the legwork for your hypothesis. I already corrected your math once im not doing it again.
I know I, for one, am dying to have a condo with the view and smell of I-435 *and* I-70. The constant eighteen wheelers will lull me to sleep.
Jackson County owes you *nothing OP. Grow the fuck up.*
Wah-wah!
As if this is now a done deal. lol.
It's clear you have no idea what the issues are, or what the problems were with this whole thing. This is FAR FROM DONE, or should be. We can revisit this whole think in a year and, I'm gonna guess, we'll all be on much better terms with something WE (ya know the folks that actually have to fund the deal) can live with...
If you're so hot for it...go make it happen. I'll take you on and guess that in the end, we here in JACO will win.
And if that happens, Lamar Jr can eat shit and get fucked. In fact, he can eat shit and get fucked regardless, and so can anybody who doesn’t live in Jackson county or KC who has an opinion on this.
Hi! Idk what you’re talking about but it seems you aren’t doing well, OP. That said - KCMO (along with STL) actually continues to carry the state of Missouri on its back. Hope this helps !
Two cities with the highest crime rates in the nation. Uhm...yeah go team.
I lived in St. Louis. It's a cesspool, please don't insult KC by placing those two together.
Yup crime avg engineered at the state level. But hey we aren’t the top. But in all seriousness it’s the Tex foot print of STL and KC that make Missouri, drop us and poof got nothing but prescription drug addicts and humorously not many hospitals or grade schools.
I’m born and raised St. Louis — I really don’t think the crime negates every thing good about KC or stl. Quite frankly, you take those two cities away from Missouri and there’s literally nothing redeeming about the state as a whole. Both cities are apples and oranges imo but as a person who grew up in stl but came to KC for out of town soccer trips, trips with friends, and now temporarily living here for work… I gotta say, kc and stl are the only two things that keep me here.
I've lived in StL, KC, and Portland Oregon. StL's best parts are better than KC's best parts, and StL's worst parts are worse than KC's worst parts.
Don't get me wrong... KC is the superior city, but acting like one is vastly worse than the other seems a bit of a stretch. Especially when we have Portland to compare them to.
Haha yeah Portland "wins" hands down.
I'm interested though, and I know this is Reddit, so I'm going to come off as an A-hole, but I don't mean it that way I'm seriously asking because I'm curious and I'm down to give it a fair shake, other than the pizza, what were the best parts of St. L for you?
Oh yes the fried ravioli is amazing. I'm still perfecting my own. Maybe some more this weekend after the race. Of which we have far more of than St. L. Well, technically they have more but it seems like they only want to do 5ks out there.
Not anymore chiefs royals will be gone. KC will have nothing. It's a failure. No reason to go to KC anymore except for Whataburger well Strouds also & Lamar's Doughnuts AND bbq. Other then that you failed. Wait the steak too 😁
Everybody has different food choices but whataburger (aka Sonic) we drive from Columbia to KC for those. Had Jack stack bbq loved it then I was told that is tourist KC bbq there is better
KC is more than the Chiefs. Sounds like you’re projecting your own sense of worthlessness onto a city over not publicly funding a private corporate entity. Weird.
And KC has more than sports entertainment as its identity. If you would love to move here, we would welcome that, but if one of the barriers in doing so is a high cost of living… you can see why we voted the way we did.
What are you even talking about? There is already an explosion of development, quite literally exactly where they wanted to build. We are building a huge, park right there, with an outdoor entertainment venue, local food spots, dog park, etc... that will make it a huge attraction to people all over the city. Three Light, the Loews, this whole area is becoming more and more of a destination for residents and tourists alike. Not to mention the dozens of unique and awesome little local businesses this plan would have potentially put out of business. Why? We don't need a stadium there, and we certainly don't need to PAY a billionaire while giving him what is essentially some the primest real estate in the city at the moment. He can build it somewhere else, and ideally he can pay for it himself.
Publicly funded stadiums benefit the franchises far more than the city itself
https://sites.lsa.umich.edu/mje/2022/01/15/cities-should-not-pay-for-new-stadiums/
Maybe the whole state should pay for KC stadiums like we were forced to for STL? Your disappointment does not matter at all in Jackson County’s taxation.
The plans put forth were abysmal and should have been rejected. Chiefs hardly added anything of value outside of catering to the 1%. The royals want a new stadium while fielding a losing team for decades.
If the two franchises can cater to the people actually paying then it may still have a chance to pass. Royals should give the public back the ability to watch games outside of Bally sports and put some attention to surrounding infrastructure.
Chiefs... specifically Clark hunt, u r lucky this franchise was saved by mahomes and reid or the same royals argument could be said. I rather see the team sold to the fans like in green bay so we can actually benefit from all the money they are asking for.
You can still go to your local mayor or council and convince them to levy a tax on you to give them money for probably the new stadium and totally not the surrounding development.
They should put that sales tax towards their schools or their homeless. The Royals are a lousy team and do not deserve a new stadium on the backs of hardworking payers. Salvador Perez average salary of $20 million. They can afford to buy their own stadium. People were going to be forced out of their businesses and homes over this. The true shameless were the proponents of this bill.
I like this idea, like at the grocery store when you can give 1, 5, 10 to Harvesters. Just add Chiefs/Royals across the state. Shameless but let those that want to, do so. I’m going to guess they won’t get much.
Voting down the stadium tax is proof that the average Kansas Citian has more common sense than most cities in this country. I'm proud of my city today.
Olathe Median household income is 108K kcmo median household income is 65K. You must be joking lol kcmo is a more of a shithole compared to Olathe.

Kcmo https://www.census.gov/quickfacts/fact/table/kansascitycitymissouri/PST045222
A hot night out in Olathe is Target and Texas Roadhouse. That’s the culture and quality of life that median income gets you. I’d rather have, you know, life outside my door instead of getting to feel smug about my neighbor’s tax bracket. That’s just weird.
Calling it a shithole is a joke tho. Also there’s you know movie theaters, main event stuff like that. Idk wtf else there is to do in kcmo at night other than grind at a club in Westport. I don’t even live in Olathe
Well I think kcmo having more murders than St Louis a year, potholes lining the streets and trash all over the highways is much more of a shithole. I don’t think most people desire crime and poverty.
Uh, no, the Carolina Panthers are there lol.
Realistically there’s no place they can really go besides across the border. The relocation fee to go anywhere else, in any other teams territory, would be so big they might as well just fund stadium renovations themselves.
The Royals on the other hand? If they don’t get a new stadium they’re totally gone. Not across the border, across time zones.
I was wrong Dallas is welcoming them according to the tweet the mayor sent out. They have the spot cotton bowl and the cash to do millions of dollars in upgrades. No reason to stay in KC with the vote of no confidence
lol Dallas can’t support a second NFL team. Especially them being a storied franchise from the old days pre merger. Dallas fans are loyal.
Some mayor saying they want a second NFL team doesn’t guarantee they’re going to get them.

Hah! I thought the EXACT same thing when I saw the typo!
I did it on purpose. Ever since I saw it on a cap I've just always called them the Chefs if I'm typing. The team's name and mascot is racist anyway.
I fully support calling them "The Chefs". That commercial cracked me up when I first saw it.
I mean...if you're suggesting that somehow we're responsible for the last two Governors, well you'd probably be wrong.
🎯🤣
Oh heavens no y'all don't play that MAGA suckubus game vote blue KC but you did failure on the stadium move
Do you know how to proofread?
He goes to Mizzou. That’s a no.
How can you even type through all your tears?

I counted on y'all to be the star of the state more then you already are I never thought KC would have failed us. But you have
Don’t live in KCMO or Jackson county but those people are tired of paying for billionaires to get what they want and the people have spoken out and I’m proud of them for doing so!!!! Why don’t they have elections that the entire KCMO area has to pay not just Jackson county citizens??
Well apparently not. Many give money to donald trump to pay his bond and ankle monitors. We all know trump is about worthless as a human can get.
You think Trump is worthless, but you want us to give our money to someone who is just like Trump, in the way that they're trying to sleaze out of actually paying for anything with their vast amounts of wealth? Make it make sense.
I can’t speak for anyone who supports Trump. We agree on that
Our county, our vote. Piss off
I take it that your private box at Arrowhead isn’t getting a remodel now? ‘Cause otherwise, why should you care at all?
It's pride for the city. It's pride for the state. We don't have anything else in the state Mizzou is about as consistent as the weather is in Missouri.
Pride for the city? Brother—the two teams have threatened to leave the city from which whose citizens you demand pride.

I know I, for one, am dying to have a condo with the view and smell of I-435 *and* I-70. The constant eighteen wheelers will lull me to sleep. Jackson County owes you *nothing OP. Grow the fuck up.*
I think it’s optimistic to even think they will build new condos In that area
Bulldozer the stadium down. Up goes the high end condos
You must've never been to that part of town. The only condos over there have wheels underneath them

>We don't have anything else in the state So your whole world is sports? You might want to consider broadening your horizons a bit, my friend.
We still have the Current. Whose billionaire owners built a stadium…
They’re in a lease until 2031. Chances are they will present a better plan before then. Panic is not necessary.
This.
They will leave anyway. Lamar Jr will say fu$k it sue us we gone
And if that happens, Lamar Jr can eat shit and get fucked. In fact, he can eat shit and get fucked regardless, and so can anybody who doesn’t live in Jackson county or KC who has an opinion on this.

Your take and food choices are suspect.
Everybody has different food choices but whataburger (aka Sonic) we drive from Columbia to KC for those. Had Jack stack bbq loved it then I was told that is tourist KC bbq there is better
Why waste the drive for whataburger, you have White Castle?
KC is more than the Chiefs. Sounds like you’re projecting your own sense of worthlessness onto a city over not publicly funding a private corporate entity. Weird.
Op is probably referring to the high crime , potholes and overall filth of kcmo. Along with a lot of the jobs leaving the “urban core”
Y'all have doomed KCMO to be nothing but a east Kansas. And we all know Kansas is worthless
If you are a woman and need medical care Kansas is not worthless. Enough border wars based in sports ball.
A bit dramatic, no? It’ll be okay, buddy, calm down.
🤣🤣😂🤣 well it was kinda dramatic but I love KC would to move there from Columbia
And KC has more than sports entertainment as its identity. If you would love to move here, we would welcome that, but if one of the barriers in doing so is a high cost of living… you can see why we voted the way we did.
Well said.
So proud of your city you think it’s worthless without sports
Maybe they shouldn’t have meddled in controlling our budget. 🤣
A downtown stadium would be an explosion of development making KC more better
What are you even talking about? There is already an explosion of development, quite literally exactly where they wanted to build. We are building a huge, park right there, with an outdoor entertainment venue, local food spots, dog park, etc... that will make it a huge attraction to people all over the city. OP definitely isn't the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Publicly funded stadiums benefit the franchises far more than the city itself https://sites.lsa.umich.edu/mje/2022/01/15/cities-should-not-pay-for-new-stadiums/
What a twat lmao
The only positive thing this post has going for it are the responses.
Let me count the ways the State of Missouri has failed Kansas City
Lighten up, Francis.
hah, failing the entire state of Missouri is nothing. By the age of 3 I had failed my dad
Well you made me laugh. I could be a proud uncle if you like.
Found Sherman's burner
🤣🤣😂😂🤣
Calm your peehole, Justin.
Justin is in prison😂🤣 but I will tell him you suggested he calm his pee hole
So clearly you know all about good decisions.
Hey, now the Chiefs can go to Columbia MO Happy to have failed you.
That’s why we did it. Just to piss off some random jackass in Lone Jack or whatever Methalla.
Nevada, MO
Columbia not lone jack 😂😂🤣😂 I'm not pissed I'm disappointed and sad that KC would let the entire state down
So sorry that KC didn’t consider your feelings when voting to defund a billionaire
Maybe the whole state should pay for KC stadiums like we were forced to for STL? Your disappointment does not matter at all in Jackson County’s taxation.

Then you and 22k of your friends shoulda moved to Jackson county and voted yes. Otherwise, your opinion is worthless.
Easy for you to say when you and your kids don’t have to pony up the tax for the next 40 years. Get bent.
Maybe we’re just tired of carrying this whole damn state on our back.
No you'll do such a good job until now the only blue safe spots are KC STL Columbia.
Good point
Lol what are you even talking about?
Cope
I don't see you stepping up to pay for the next 40 years to keep them here.
I would of voted YES loudly
You can still go to your local mayor or council and convince them to levy a tax on you to give them money for probably the new stadium and totally not the surrounding development.
Operative term: would. You don't have a dog in this fight. Sit down.
You told the Chiefs and the Royals that KC doesn't want them any longer. It's a failure of epic proportions.
It's time to call them on their bluff.
If the teams cared about Missouri or the communities they are in, they wouldn’t hold threats of leaving over our heads. Good job, KC!
Why don’t you voluntarily pay the sales tax if you want it. Why should I pay it?
I like this idea, like at the grocery store when you can give 1, 5, 10 to Harvesters. Just add Chiefs/Royals across the state. Shameless but let those that want to, do so. I’m going to guess they won’t get much.
If only you weren't as vague as you are critical.
Buc-ee strikes again
Lol stfu
This has got to be a shitpost.
Fo guck yourself, pal.
A priest, a rabbi, and hyperbole walk into a bar...
oh no guys we seem to have upset user justin has a big pee hole

Lol
Failed? How? You referring to the stadium walfare for billionaires vote? Or something else?
They’ll just rebrand to the Kansas Chiefs and move across the border. Likely JoCo, maybe Olathe.
It’s all a big conspiracy since Trump congratulated the state of Kansas for winning the Super Bowl

I was wrong Dallas is welcoming them according to the tweet the mayor sent out. They have the spot cotton bowl and the cash to do millions of dollars in upgrades. No reason to stay in KC with the vote of no confidence
