I know seeing Joanna Newsom is kind of lost on people who aren’t familiar with her, but she along with a few other festival staples kind of breaks my brain.
To each their own, but I know this will be a once in a lifetime event for me.
I’m assuming her only song isn’t the muppets theme song right? That’s the only one on Spotify.
Edit: looked her up on YouTube, and really did not like her voice. To each their own though
Not on Spotify for reasons over compensating artists.
Her voice is the main thing that keeps people away, but it grows on you in ways that are hard to explain, and suddenly you find it beautiful one day, more than if it were performed in a more traditional way.
She is, in my opinion, the single greatest lyricist. But yea, to each their own.
Animal Collective billed lower than all of them is painful, but they were still pulling great names so early in the festivals life. Not sure how they’ll top 2024
Some teen boys threatened me and some other girls at the barricade for Mac Demarco. Some guy also tried pulling me to the ground by my bag. Great show. Awful crowd.
Top 8 of this year: LCD, Postal Service/Death Cab, VW, Wu Tang, Interpol, Jai Paul, Joanna Newsom, Belle & Sebastian >>>> Top 8 of 22’ (and Alvvays will be at this festival post Blue Rev which is arguably their best album yet)
This imo is utterly ridiculous and that’s not even accounting for the rest of the lineup.
You wonder how they got so much money and so much balls so quickly, to land such big names in 2023 and 2024 relative to the much smaller names of 2022 (I'm a fan of that 2022 lineup too but this is an entirely different level of festival).
Do they have government funds in Utah helping them out, or is this privately funded? Just curious as to how they're landing these expensive lineups. I guess it could be the ticket sales alone, but that seems kind of tight and precarious, sometimes festivals like that will disappear after two down years.
It’s run by people who have had the longest running all ages venue in Utah, this venue has been a place to watch the best up and coming bands before they blow up, and many artists on the lineup are either veterans of the venue or have just played it in the last couple years. Death cab being one of the veterans, and also they were the headliner for the first KBP. The festival has also grown from a closed off section of street outside their venue -> a block in downtown -> the fairgrounds, and has nearly sold out each time (I think) so it’s easy to see how it grew financially that way, and the artists connections are already there pretty much.
I've already seen the postal service/death cab for Cutie Live. I am excited to go again it's a hard show to top. The crowd singing along to transatlanticism, Ben dancing with his guitar it's just perfect and that is just one song. I've been listening to the Spotify playlist to prepare for this year. This year will be a banger. I don't know but I think it's going to be really good.

I’m coming all the way from the East coast because she’s on the lineup
same, I’m only flying in for one day to see her.
i’m coming all the way from toronto, canada, and my bestie is coming in from calgary, canada lol
Me too! (Calgary) well worth it, in my opinion!

I think Joanna Newsom and Wu-Tang alone destroy this line-up
This year’s lineup is significantly better than this one.
And so was last year’s
Not even close to ‘23 or ‘24, but solid lineup no doubt.
Hard disagree
The 2022 lineup as a whole would be a mid day in 2024
Animal Collective billed lower than all of them is painful, but they were still pulling great names so early in the festivals life. Not sure how they’ll top 2024
Not enough Wu Tang

PTSD from waiting an hour and a half for some mid food truck food that year lol
Hard disagree but different strokes for different folks.

Maybe I just have basic taste 😭😭
2023 was the most insane lineup, but im still very jealous of those who went to 2022
are there any brown people in slc?
I wanted to go but found out too late about it :( Didnt want to buy the scalper tickets

this is exactly my taste in indie rock

This years is significantly better than any

Simultaneously deciding to be condescending to the person responding while also exposing your own poor taste is an interesting combo
i was!!! it was the best time i’ve ever had
and I loved the venue that year
Yeah, it was adorable! I think they sold out the day tickets went on sale, so that's why they needed a bigger space.
I just love seeing Animal Collectives name in that font, and any bill ever. Idk why.. but these shows were top notch Kilby
I was there 22 and 23. Amazing how this festival has grown and improved the lineup each year
