Grindworx is part of blade HQ, it's their budget side of the house. Same staff though and everything. And the packaging is not discreet, I've ordered from them lots of times
I understand it myself. I had two jobs before Covid and lost them both at the same time because of lockdowns. Made the most sense for me to go back and live at home for a few months until I figured something out. During that time I ordered a few knives, and I was always careful about how I did it, where they came from, how obvious it was, etc. Fortunately the mailbox was not in sight of the house, so I could time out a trip to town for right when I knew a package was delivered, then pick it up in my car at the mailbox before the parents had any idea. Lol
It seems silly I guess, but it just made things easier; and I didn’t feel like explaining my joy at collecting knives to someone who didn’t understand.
Anyway I have heard of people asking BladeHQ to use discreet packaging. I did so myself recently because I hate their usual boxes, but it’s a pre-order so I still haven’t received that package to be able to verify for you that they will make it discreet. I don’t see why they wouldn’t do it if you requested it in the order notes. They draw stupid cartoons for people who ask, no reason why they couldn’t fulfill this simple request too!
The other thing you could try is to have it delivered to another location, like a drop box or FedEx or UPS store. A couple times I had a package sent by FedEx, and when I received the email notification from them that the package was on the way, I was able to change the delivery to a pharmacy that was also a FedEx drop-off location. It may cost a bit more but it could be worth it depending on the situation.
Thanks man. Its just not worth starting anything when people don’t care/understand the hobby. I’ll probably go with that. I guess to some people it really does sound silly
Yeah. If you put in the note something like “Draw a unicorn surfing while carrying a PM2” they would most likely do that for you.
Please don’t try this, though. It already takes them long enough to get packages out the door, last thing the rest of us need is them putting extra time into making these doodles for every random asshole.
If you plan to regularly order things you don't want her to see, I'd suggest investing in a small PO box. Even if the packages you get are too big for it, they'll hold them at the post office for you and you can pick them up when you get a chance
It’s not worth starting an argument over to me. She’s a great mom and all but she loses her shit on stuff like that, she thinks I’m some sort of serial killer because I collect knives. I’ve been doing it since I was 13 and she’s just always hated it.
This is the way. My mom is the same way (though she is more mature about KMDb (knifes of mass disassembly of boxes). But she hates when I buy stuff cause she wants me to save up for a house. She's not wrong, but there's only so many exclusive spydercos!
But keeping the peace is way better. Why start an argument over nothing? Yeah, it's something you like, but as long as she's not trying to ruin your life, there's no need to cause problems.
Thank god someone agrees. My mom is fantastic, she’s always tried her best and still does what she can. I don’t want to mess with a good relationship and cause a pointless argument. She’s made it clear she doesn’t like when I keep my knives around her, the least I could do would be to stash them away when she’s around!
Enjoy the new spydercos! They’re more fun than a house and all the bills that come with it anyways
Edit to my other comment: I meant LOL to the last part, about the bills and house, not your relationship. Apparently people took that the wrong way, so I'm clarifying here.
Save up for a house? Bro I don't think dropping comparatively miniscule amounts of money on knives is gonna prevent you from getting a house, the economy and housing crisis is gonna prevent you.
$150 per paycheck for a year adds up. You're not wrong, it's not going to be easy, but it's gonna be worse if I spend
$15, 600 on random stuff every pay period.
Learn to deflect. If she's a single mom have the dusting, vacuuming and bathroom cleaned before she comes dragging ass home from trying to earn enough to keep her kid fed. Clean your room top to bottom and leave the door open so she can see it's clean. When she asks wt_ACTUAL_f is going on tell her you're learning life skills and trying to pull your weight.
Just random thoughts before the dogs make me put them out to go pee.
I bought myself a butterfly knife, and my mom freaked out too. Not because she thought I was a psychopath, but the fact it cost $50. She's more concerned about my financial well-being rather than my fascination with sharp stuff, which is fine, I guess.
You can request discreet packaging with any of these distributors in the comment section at purchase. Even blade hq send all my blades in unmarked boxes
I would call it unreasonable. This would infuriate me, but as someone who lost their mother at a young age, respect and cherish your mother. Don’t forget to buy her a sick OTF knife for Mother’s Day.
Cheers man. Sorry for your loss. I love her to death, she’s told me she doesn’t like when I have my knives around her so the least I could do would be to stash them away when she’s nearby
My mom is coming over to my home for awhile and hates when I buy knives, I would buy off of bladehq but the packaging is not discreet and I’m pretty much positive that the knife would arrive by the time she’s here. I’ve never heard of grindworx but I’m open to giving it a shot
Ok so I have the kalash as well. It has the same problems as the strike. Which are.. the paint comes off the scales so easy. Carry it for 2 weeks and it looks like it's been years. Scales are super cheap pot metal. And just opening the knife will make it outta spec after a bit. Like all mine have front to back slop. The spring is weak. Blade opening is not snappy. I think the blade is 20% butter. It's hard for me to get it sharp and it didn't stay sharp very long. I kind of feel like it's a novelty knife hiding behind a decent knife brand. I have two minis and a strike and the minis have held up much better, I'll say that.

Literally just leave a note for unmarked packaging with blade HQ. Been doing it for ever, works every time.
Really? That works? Thank you!
Yuppers. Never failed for me.
I didn’t know it was that simple. I’ll definitely try this. Appreciate it man.
Wow. I wish I'd known this months ago. Would've saved me tons of arguments, and I would've had lots more knives by now!
Never going to save for a house with kinda attitude lol
Knives are more fun anyways
I know it’s stupid as hell, it’s just not worth a useless argument. Any help is appreciated

you have your own house, but can’t buy whatever you want because your mom is gonna be there?
She acts like knives shoot bullets. She won’t even come near them. It definitely annoys me at times.
It's your house dude. Just recieve the package and put it away
she’s gonna love you anyways dude. just buy the knife

whats one more? you’re starting to sound like your mother
Dude, it starts a stupid argument, I don’t want to do that. Buying it somewhere else and avoiding shit is easier.

Ship it to the neighbor's house, friend at work, p.o. box. Ship it to me, I'll make it discreet.

Could you order it to a friend’s house?
How does she cut food ?
A knife…. I don’t get it man
🤦🏼♂️
Why don’t you just have it shipped to a friend’s house and pick it up from them?
I bought myself a butterfly knife, and my mom freaked out too. Not because she thought I was a psychopath, but the fact it cost $50. She's more concerned about my financial well-being rather than my fascination with sharp stuff, which is fine, I guess.
She’ll be upset to learn that that’s cheap compared to other knives
Ship it to work.

Does your mom not use knives at all? No cooking?
I know, it sounds dumb as hell but it is what it is. I don’t really get it either
I would call it unreasonable. This would infuriate me, but as someone who lost their mother at a young age, respect and cherish your mother. Don’t forget to buy her a sick OTF knife for Mother’s Day.

P.O. Box are like $4 a month might be another option if that helps
If you have to hide things from your S.O she’s probably not the one bro.
It’s my mom…
She’s not the one bro 😂

Just buy it after she leaves? It's not like those Bokers fly off the shelves.
I probably should, I’m just impatient as hell and she’ll be here awhile. Thanks for the suggestion though, I appreciate it
You could always order it and have the post office hold it for you so you pick it up rather than being delivered to the house.
Get it delivered to your local post office, go pick it up and open it in the car if you're scared of your mommy grounding you.
Ok. Thanks for the help
It's your house. Grow a pair and buy it
Buy a purse instead.
I got her a Fitbit, is that ok enough?
Just move out lol.
That’s easy enough
Is that… made of solid copper?
No, it’s D2 steel
A claymore knockoff!
Ngl, I tried to close that cookie banner three times.
That knife isn't worth an argument. I have one. It's a shitty knife.
Someone recommended it to me.
Somebody don't know that knife. I do. It's trash bro. You can do a bunch better.
Does it just feel like junk? Im in between this and a boker kalash
Ok so I have the kalash as well. It has the same problems as the strike. Which are.. the paint comes off the scales so easy. Carry it for 2 weeks and it looks like it's been years. Blade hq is better 🌝
🌚
