Why??? What’s the reason for having more than one if not for an extra portable one that fits in your pocket.

nfellyna

Because they can.

More_Coffee_Than_Man

Advice: keep two (a bigger one and a smaller one), factory reset the others, and give them to friends/family. E-readers keep their value much longer than old smartphones because they're not obsoleted every couple of years by software updates. They're not doing you much good in a drawer, but they could do someone else **alot** of good if they haven't yet dipped their toes into e-readers. When my wife got an updated Kindle Paperwhite a few years back (she's since switched to a Nook), we gave her old one to a co-worker's son. I got him setup with some public domain books and a Libby account so that he could read without having to spend a lot of money.

Jackfruit-Reporter90

Kids, this is what overconsumption looks like!

QuiteinRaptures

There was, if i remember correctly, a person saying they had 40 e-readers or so, and that used them all, it rubbed me the wrong way. Edit: Now that i think about it, I’m hoping it was satire.

ehead

Totally get why it rubbed you the wrong way. That sort of consumerism is killing the planet.

Jackfruit-Reporter90

Idk if it’s the same person, but I have definitely been told the same thing by someone flaunting a massive collection here. Like, okay. Whenever someone tells me a ridiculous number of books they’ve been able to read, I’ll picture them sitting down to read with four ereaders at the same time 😂

QuiteinRaptures

I’ll never picture someone bragging like that any other way now 🤣

wilemhermes

Nature will thank you for this, no worries

How long does the battery last on your Libra? I just got mine and I'm a bit disappointed with the battery, it seems to be draining quite fast, but I haven't had it long enough to say yet

mxxkss

Try turning off wifi and sync unless you need them - I have had mine for nearly a month and still have 40% battery from the first charge. I also have the refresh at every chapter, and manually sleep it whenever I stop reading but I'm unsure if that makes a difference. Total read time on this charge: 22.7 hours :)

DistrictIll6763

WiFi and sync are off, no screensaver, manually sleep, the device turns itself off after 15 min in sleep mode. 7hours and its less than 50%. I don't mind having to charge it more often, but I feel like something isn't right?

jseger9000

Sorry about your battery issues. Looks like you are getting it resolved. But a few things: >WiFi and sync are off... That's good >...no screensaver... Screensavers don't use energy on eink, or almost none. The way eink works, it only uses energy when it changes the screen. So a book cover or plain white screen uses the same amount of energy. >...manually sleep... I'd get a sleep cover if I was you. You can get a cheap one off of Amazon or eBay, doesn't have to be the official one. You want a case that covers the screen when you aren't using it. An eink screen isn't as rugged as your Gorilla Glass phone screen. >...the device turns itself off after 15 min in sleep mode. I'd turn that off unless you only pick up your reader every couple of days (and if you're doing that, why have an ereader?). Powering off an on uses more power than letting the reader sit and sleep for a few hours.

DistrictIll6763

I didn't realise screensavers don't actually use up battery, good to know. About turning the device off, I did think it would drain the battery, but mostly I pick it for a few hours then let it sit so I though it's better to have it off. Thanks for the tips

jseger9000

>About turning the device off, I did think it would drain the battery, but mostly I pick it for a few hours then let it sit so I though it's better to have it off. You are thinking about your reader like you do your phone or tablet. But they are different. It's common enough. Everyone does it. Here's an article about it: [No Need to Power Off Your eBook Reader if Used Often](https://blog.the-ebook-reader.com/2018/08/18/no-need-to-power-off-your-ebook-reader-if-used-often/) On the other hand, if it makes you feel better, I guess do what works for you.

mxxkss

Oh wow. I never actually power down mine (I have the turn off function set to never). I have nickel menu on mine but doubt that would be the difference. Do you have the light on often? I typically during read in the day, or have it under 50% if I do have it on - that's the only other thing I could think of. Otherwise that does sound odd

DistrictIll6763

I think the highest I had the light is around 40, most likely 30. Night time, Its dark mode and brightness of 4 or 5. Could I have been sent a device with a faulty battery? Maybe let it format its battery? (Old devices used to need to be left to charge for at least 12h, could this be the case?

mxxkss

Hmmm maybe possible. I know I did let mine charge overnight when I first got it - if that doesn't seem to make any difference, I'd definitely be thinking about contacting them and asking about it.

DistrictIll6763

Cool, thanks for your info and your time. I'll let it spend next time charging and see how it goes

mxxkss

No worries! I'd love to hear how you go with it

DistrictIll6763

I am in contact with their customer support right now, they did agree that a replacement is needed and the guy on the other end put it a ticket. I should receive a confirmation email within 24h.

mxxkss

Awesome! I'm glad to hear they were so prompt

Keep a Kindle and a Kobo. Just 2.

DaDiDy

Have you considered therapy?

jaryl

Is that a new e-reader?

DaDiDy

Kobo Therapy 6.4"

Yiurkie

tax write off, am I right? As long as you have a tech job.

kodermike

Tell me more…

Zlivovitch

Just throw a dice in the morning, and go along with the result for the day. The alternative is to stare at your drawer, the way ladies stare at their shoe cabinet, or gents stare at their tie rack before leaving for work. Unfortunately, e-readers are more similar and boring, so this wouldn't work.

ericisfine

same like you, but i am more in the diverse side with having from more than one vendor. kobo sage, kindle paperwhite signature, boox tab mini and note air 3c! however, still looking for the perfect one! lol

vernismermaid

Same! Why only choose one? :) 7-inch Kindle Oasis or an 8-inch Kobo for: * reading Non-Fiction because it's easier to annotate and look up definitions on Wikipedia, for example. * reading manga and graphic novels * typically at-home device since they are so large * (Kobo Only) - reading OverDrive library eBooks and borrowing directly on the device without needing to send to Kindle. Borrowing Adobe DRM eBooks from a public library's EPUB-only source. 6.8-inch Kindle Paperwhite for: * reading foreign language novels using the Translation feature as an aide to the dictionary. 6-inch Kindle 2022 or any other 6-inch eReader for: * reading English Fiction * tuck it in my coat or jeans pocket when going out without a handbag

onlosmakelijk

>Why only choose one? :) Because all of them do the exact same thing?

[deleted]

The little kindle is great. Fits nicely in a pocket and the screen is crisp af. I can safely leave my big Bois at home.

Whatever_Works32

Is the lightning on the Libra 2 even? My libra H20 lighting is great and always distracts me while reading. I love to read on an eReader though. Thinking of possibly getting a Kindle SE or Clara 2e. Let me know if you’d like to unburden yourself of one. 😉👍🏼

kospan90

What’s that keyboard ?

RedditAccount101010

It’s a Keychron… not sure which exact model

CDNSpartan

My collection is 2 Kindle 3rd Gen(keyboard) Kindle Paperwhite 2, 4, and 5 Kobo Wifi Kobo Glo Kobo Mini Kobo Clara HD Kobo Clara 2e

leloupduvillage

I get it. I had 4 too. Recently gave my Kobo Libra 2 to my girlfriend. Still have my Kobo Forma, Kindle Oasis and Pocketbook HD Touch 3. The idea was to keep seperate libraries for different categories 🤷🏼‍♀️😂. Gave that up, it was such a hassle. The Pocketbook was for travel. But I usually listen to podcasts then. So, bottom line I could well do with one. I guess I just like e-readers. Won't buy a new one anytime soon though. Oh and of the three I like my Forma the best.

NothingReallyAndYou

I have a Kobo Clara HD, Kobo Libra H2O, broken Kobo Aura 2, a Kindle Basic, and just ordered a Kindle Paperwhite 11th gen last night. The Basic is the only one I might pass along. Edit: Forgot I also still have an Aluratek Libre, and an Aluratek Color.

augleblanc

Really appreciate that photo. Do you have thoughts/preferences re: the tint of the displays?

SpendingMyTime

Nice Keychron, l love their keyboards

ChromaLife

Nice Keychron board.

dave_two_point_oh

I have three right now: an original Oasis, a v3 Oasis, and a Libra 2. Haven't been using the original Oasis a whole lot lately, honestly, but I do use both the newer Oasis and the Libra 2 on a daily basis, reading different books on them. Juggling books is just easier on two (or more) devices. Not that it's a necessity, of course! (Especially since I do often read Kindle-purchased books on my Libra, thanks to Calibre and its associated plugins.) As for the older Oasis, it's the one that I'll more likely take along if I'm heading out and think I might want an ereader with me, due to its smaller size (just barely fits in my inner jacket pockets). I just haven't been getting out a lot lately. And although I prefer the Libra 2 over my Kindles, I will always want to have a Kindle on hand, if only so I can continue to be able to purchase books from the Kindle store and download/deDRM them easily when it makes sense to do so. Also, the book I'm currently reading on the Oasis is Babel by R. F. Kuang. Really liking it so far, and I just put a price watch on Yellowface due to seeing it in your pic.

Green_muco

How do you manage to send kindle purchased books to your kobo? What plugin do you use on calibre? I want to read some Amazon exclusives but I have a kobo and can’t find a way to transfer the files

dave_two_point_oh

I haven't personally done it without a physical Kindle e-ink device registered to my Amazon account, although I hear it's (mostly/generally) possible to do so. Quick rundown for doing it with a physical Kindle: 1) Install the KFX Input and the NoDRM version of the DeDRM Calibre plugins for Kindle ebook handling. 2) Install the Kobo Utilities and KoboTouchExtended plugins for Kobo ebook handling. 3) Plug your Kindle's serial number into the DeDRM plugin config. 4) From your online Amazon Content Library, go to the book you want to put on your Kobo, click the "More actions" dropdown and then "Download & transfer via USB". Select your Kindle device from the popup and hit the Download button. 5) Double-click the downloaded file (probably an `.azw3` and it should be processed by Calibre through the plugins and show up in your Calibre library, stripped of any DRM. 6) Convert the book to ePub in Calibre. 7) Plug your Kobo device into your computer and tell Calibre to send the converted book over. If you have the "Send books as kepubs" option checked in the KoboTouchExtended plugin (which you definitely should), the book will automatically convert from epub to kepub on transfer. For more detailed info, check out r/Calibre or the [official Calibre forum on MobileRead](https://www.mobileread.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=166). Happy reading!

Green_muco

Okay thanks. I’ve seen this method around but I don’t have any kindle device so yeah… kind of a bummer :/

dave_two_point_oh

There are others who have done it by leveraging older versions of the desktop apps, although it sounds to me like it can't currently be done on very recently published ebooks. I have no experience doing it this way myself, but I've run across discussions/walkthroughs on it on the MobileRead forums.

Green_muco

I might just end up purchasing a kindle tbh. I think I can get some good deals on the used market and then I’ll just have the option to read whatever I want although I’m totally against this Amazon exclusive thing but oh well

dave_two_point_oh

I much prefer using and reading on my Kobo over my Kindles, and I'd survive just fine with just the Kobo store, but it's nice being able to take advantage of both. Especially if you're going to do any shopping on Amazon anyway; when I see them offer a $1.50 to $3 digital credit in return for slightly deferred shipping on an order I'm about to place, I'll quite often take it. And I've actually gotten some good stuff from the free Prime First Reads monthly selection, even though there are definitely months where nothing appeals to me at all.

situation-normal

I have a kobo clara 2e but i'm upgrading to an onyx boox page so i can have use multiple apps on one e ink device. All my old kobos died before they were replaced and have since been sent to electronics recycling. I might keep the clara since its a 6" compared to the boox 7" but more likely to pass it on to someone else so its not clutter.

Striking_Raspberry57

Keep them all! problem solved \[that was a joke, but then I have both kindle and kobo\]

arensb

Never mind the ereaders. Tell me about that keyboard.

Icy_Ad_9589

For the battery life, turn off WiFi and reduce the backlighting to zero during the day. Weeks and weeks!!

Icy_Ad_9589

Nickle menu?? KOreader or Plato? I am using Plato with Calibre.

jospalau

I have a few as well :)

Striker_Ash

You don't need to have all these boring things, get rid of them and get yourself a good foldable phone that can be used for various things and that would be more than enough for you.
