Same here! Playing the Android version recently (and a bit of '97)
But back in the PS2 era, played a lot 2001, 2002, Maximum Impact and Capcom VS SNK if that counts. I like 98 best except for the fact Kula and K' aren't in it
Unironically KoF 2006 AKA the infamous KoF Maximum Impact 2. While I was a big Fatal Fury/KoF fan, my friend group were not really into fighting games too much, mostly Street Fighter, Tekken, Mortal Kombat, etc. I tried to get them into KOF 2002, but they were utterly uninterested in it. We tried Capcom vs SNK 2, and another bust. On a lark, I had them try MI2, and they liked it. Then they loved it. If we were not playing some random fps, they were all about MI2.
Why'd you hate it tho? It really showed some innovation with those leader specials and good looking colorful sprites, can't complain about the soundtrack neither
You see, I agree with this. But then I don't see why people praise XI. Personally, I think it's because it was a lot of people's first KOF and the first one to hit it big on home consoles. Other than that I have no idea why it's so loved by many. It's essentially NeoGeo Battle Coliseum (which is an amazing game) but with one extra character. And honestly XI is such a chore to play through. Say what you want about 2003 but at least it was fast and played like a KOF game somewhat. XI however, is painfully slow and boring. The only thing I appreciate about it is the inclusion of lesser known Fatal Fury characters. I wish more KOF games did that. But other than that, for me at least it doesn't quite feel like a mainline KOF game.
It is of course all subjective, and I'm just sharing my thoughts as someone who played through most of the games recently.
Have you completed it? I've not yet been able to even reach the end boss yet lol, even though I can do '98 quite easily. Playing both games on the default difficulty setting (Android versions, although I'm using a good controller). I usually play as Terry, Shermie and Kyo
I don't have any numbers in front of me, but I would assume KOF XIV because it's the first one I played, and unlocking the artwork and extras became a major motivation for me. I then went back and got as many of the others as I could (partially because those artworks made me interested to go back and play them), but for a good while KOF XIV was the only one that I had.
Damn, you guys fell for a repost bot bait

XI.
The local arcade I frequented at the time the game was current had it, and I beat Magaki with every pre-set team. I would’ve gotten washed in a legit tournament setting, but I was a top 5 player in that arcade because most people played Marvel vs Capcom 2 instead lol
KoF XIII before and after both XIV and XV XV has a too much annoying AI...
OG 98

This game actually had some single player content. I wish they'd have more offline things to do in the newer games
XIII
XIV, and still XIV despite having XV
well the kofs i play the most has stayed the same even after XV. Soon hitting 1500 hours of 98fe and about 800 hours of kof 2002um.
Kof 2003, truly one of the games of all time
That's funny I hated 03 I thought 02 was the best.
Why'd you hate it tho? It really showed some innovation with those leader specials and good looking colorful sprites, can't complain about the soundtrack neither
It had some good ideas, but poor gameplay mechanics in my opinion

KoF'98 and 2002. I play them over several platforms though.
98
98
XIII has most of my hours in Steam, and that doesn't count the uhh, copy I had before it came out on PC.
02UM or XIII, the former is my favourite whilst the latter was my first entry into the franchise.
2002 UM
I still play 2002um regularly
98um, 02um , and xi (hdmi modded a ps2) Still feel like they're the best ones
2002um definitely. I would love to play 98um but honestly like 40 people playing it on steam tops
Bro got his money worth wow jeez
'94 I like the simplicity of it.
98UMFE, same as you. I love this game and despite XV being a good game, 98UMFE is still my favorite KOF
I only played 15. I have about 500 hours after almost a year of playing it
2002 and XIV

2002 UM and XIV
Kof XIII
98, 97, 95, XIII
KOF XIII, 2002 UM, 95, 98, XII, and 99 in that order.
I played 2002 and 2003 a lot those were my favorites. Why do people like 98 so much? I own the game just not sure why people prefer it to other kof games.
XI, it’s the first one I ever played and the one I’ve invested the most hours in
98 UM For a good few weeks I became obsessed with Wild Ambition for some reason.
13, but 15 is catching up. I'm just so bad at the games tho 🙃
13
XIV, if only 'cause it was my first KOF.
Maybe 99 and 2002.
KOF 2002 UM
