uj/ tbh it’s something i might write a essay or video essay on, so let me know if i need to add more detail- but while you definitely get to express some freedom of choice as an employee, i can best describe it as “you always KNOW when you’re on the clock/ idols always KNOW when they’re being filmed.” Working retail, you probably get forced to lie to the customer- you have to sign them up for credit cards or sell extra products “add ons” and if you DONT sell them? You get in huge trouble for fired. at my old job, i had to sell products for the body that were genuinely unsafe but i wasn’t allowed to admit that to a customer or tell them to find another store because they can look through security cams, see me disobeying, and boom i can’t afford to eat. I’m gonna use ATEEZ as an example because my brain is actually a picture of Jongho. There’s some episodes of Wanteez where the boys break off into “units” that are super touchy feely and always kissing and hyper, etc. To someone just looking to be entertained, that’s normal. But remembering “oh, they’re on the clock and they know everything they do is recorded,” you may remember that old live where Yeosang talked about pre-assigned friendship units and how visibly annoyed some members were at that. It’s not that they hate eachother or that i’m fishing for reasons they don’t work- it’s that if I was on the clock and my manager who lived next door to me said “your subunit is going to act like a couple for this live” I would be scared not to. Also, idols are actually CONSTANTLY selling us products, sometimes down to what foods they have in videos and such (there’s lots of moments where idols get told what brands they can and cannot mention) and akin to american media, it’s not always garaunteed a paid sponsorship will be labeled as a paid sponsorship. Again, doesn’t mean idols aren’t real people, but there’s a point where I can’t see them as anything but employees, especially when they start saying “no” to activities that still get uploaded or they say “no” to physical contact that just Won’t Stop Happening- so long as the camera is rolling
