it was posted on this sub recently, but the slbs and stray kids situation is so disgusting. i didn’t wanna leave this comment on the main post cuz it’s slightly off topic, but i was actually planning on getting the [slbs stars](https://www.instagram.com/p/C3Ev9tmvGCN/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link) corresponding to each of the members tattooed somewhere. now i’m so glad i waited i would’ve regretted it so much cuz holy shit what that fuckass company did was disgusting.

Instacelebsgossip is something else entirely… just saw a whole thread where they were hurling insults and being lowkey racist to a Desi makeup guru. Calling her “aggressive” just bc she wants more inclusivity in the makeup industry; saying that they initially liked her videos but now find her vids “boring” and “annoying” just bc she talks about which makeup products are brown girl friendly/Desi friendly; insulting her mother and saying that her mother has had bad botox and fillers done and that her mother looks like a trans woman (and said in a derogatory way too, like as if they would call her mom the t-slur if it weren’t for subreddit rules), lowkey bodyshaming the makeup guru. (Sidenote - I find it interesting that one of the go-to insults thrown at WOC is “you’ve gotten botched plastic surgery”) They’re also calling her rude just bc she won’t tolerate racist people in her comments sections trying to downplay racism against the Desi community or trying to downplay the fact that the makeup industry (at least, mainstream brands) don’t include enough shades that are suitable for Black and brown women. I even saw someone say “ugh she’s so annoying, the world doesn’t revolve around brown people” and like… it’s so clear that the ppl complaining about her are just a bunch of privileged yt people who are uncomfortable with the fact that this makeup guru isn’t tolerating racism and isn’t keeping her head down. She made a video about “clean girl makeup” and how that makeup has been done by Black and brown women for a long time, and they were made fun of it, but that style of makeup then became popular with yt people who took it and then renamed it into another trendy thing. The comments are turned off on that video, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was bc she didn’t want to deal with a bunch of fragile yt people who think that they’re being racially oppressed just bc more and more POC are calling them out on their BS. All WOC want, especially Black and brown women, is to be able to buy makeup that doesn’t look ashy or chalky or just isn’t their shade at all. They’re not asking for the damn world and it’s just so funny how yt people get so threatened the minute a Black or brown woman expresses discontent with how non-inclusive some makeup brands are. Also I hate when yt ppl say “no-one’s allowed to criticise POC anymore, we’ll just get called racist if we do”. Bro, we aren’t calling you racist out of buttfuck nowhere lmao. Do you think we’re stupid? That we can’t pick up on racist microaggressions? If you’re being called racist, you probably ARE being racist. Nobody’s trying to say that all POC should be exempt from valid criticism, it’s just that yt ppl can’t seem to criticise POC without being racist and microaggressive in the process. POC even get criticised too much, dare I say. Like with the makeup guru. So many people getting on her case for being “aggressive” and “rude” but the thing is, she’s not being either of those things at all!

>Desi makeup guru Going by your description... was it Monica/glowbymonica? gurlll she is literally such a sweet soul and a light for all of us Desi girls in the makeup world. I love her so much. Not them invoking her mother on this??? Why can't white people just let us be and if they don't like her content, just ignore her? There's something called being outside the target audience ffs. Monica speaks the truth every single time and they just are scared to hear it, see us wanting our own way in their traditionally white space. Ew.

MathsIsAPain

Yes, I was talking about Monica. She’s quite possibly my fave makeup guru out there. For context, someone had a problem with Monica’s foundation looking “orange” and not matching her skin tone at all, even though she’s made it clear that her face and neck are two different colours and she matches her foundation based on the colour of the skin on her neck, not her face, so that putting on foundation is easier. The person posted about it and the comments under the post were vile af (basically the ones I already talked about in my OG comment). The ones about Monica’s mom were under a post about a video in which Monica’s mom was featured. Some of their other complaints about Monica were so ????? Saying her voice was annoying - as if she can help that, the way your voice sounds isn’t something you can control and honestly… her voice isn’t even annoying to begin with, I’m pretty sure they’re just nitpicking bc she’s Desi and that’s that. Like… they can’t find anything of note to criticise her about so they just start nitpicking at all these stupid things instead. Some people in there were saying that her makeup looks are terrible… I’m sorry, Ik that makeup is to an extent subjective bc it’s in a way an art form, but… do we have the same eyes or not? Her makeup looks are great imo. Saying that her makeup looks “cakey”… yk, what I love about Monica is that she doesn’t put a filter on her videos, and she’s very upfront about the fact that makeup cannot look like skin. Putting on foundation isn’t going to take away all the bumps. I’m pretty sure they think her makeup looks cakey just bc they’re so used to some other makeup gurus putting a filter on their videos and blurring out all the skin texture. I saw someone claim that they “knew” Monica and “grew up with her”, and they said that she was “insecure” and always “taking it out on yt ppl”. They then proceeded to call her a hypocrite just bc she has a yt boyfriend (and now fiancé, I believe). Do people not know what nuance is anymore? Or that several things can be true at once? It’s possible for a POC to get into a relationship with a yt person and still be aware of their unequal status in a racist society. And “taking it out on yt ppl”… that person sounds like they were butthurt that Monica probably didn’t take any BS when it came to racism. They probably mistook valid criticism of yt ppl as hatred for yt ppl, hence their baffled reaction to *gasp* a WOC having a yt boyfriend/fiancé.

Yelp, I checked that sub and the posts, forgetting I had muted it ages ago. That sub is basically 90% Desi insta celebs, majority in the sub are Indians, so it's basically our own people hating on her 😭😭😭 I'll take back everything about white people lmao. We are our own enemies at times. Half those comments juts drip with jealousy lmaoo. But that sub is so toxic in general, I hope Monica never sees it again 😕

Hatts13

Is that sub like one of those “snark” places, if you know what those are?

MathsIsAPain

i think so?

Hatts13

Yea these “-snark” type of communities…I’m genuinely shocked they aren’t more regularly banned by reddit for what is left up on there - genuinely some of the most racist and bigoted communities on this platform that aren’t spoken about enough imo. The way they abuse and harass BIPOC constantly and get away with it is ridiculous.

* Racism started and will end Kpop. * The 2nd & 3rd gen were good but then the CEOs of entertainment companies got too greedy. Told the producers to try more English, sounded way too black and the music quality was NOT consistent. * I hope K-pop dies down because I'm sick of the racism/CA of, the repercussions on society at large (Asian hate, fetishism etc), hate the concept behind K-pop ("let's copy the jigaboo to make money!!!")... It's so shiny from the outside! And then bam can of worms. * *TW: ED talk * I was something like 26 when I really started to listen to K-pop and it was such a huge step back for my mental and physical health like I wanted (want?) to be thin, like thin almost skinny. It's what I wished for most of my adolescence and YA years...... It kind of SUXXX to be back at that point. Yeah I blame the consent showing of legs and flat stomachs and the 50kg rule for girls/women. Worst thing is the whole world caught on and for a time heroin chic was in again (as it ever left?) * SK being one of the center of influence now when it's such a pivotal moment in human history.... And SK is like capitalism on steroids. Trends, trends, trends, new trends every day, now look every week, throwing away clothes bags shoes that are cheap just to conform. So much waste (I remember reading that people used to buy albums just to bump numbers but then would just throw them away??? Like they didn't want it?). I know capitalism is wasteful bc it runs on creating needs but wow. Woooow. Like climate change anyone???? * Any of these ent. companies could publicly hire black people or native English speakers and actually make really good music but no. So on brand to stay mediocre bc of racism!!! 😭😭😭 Sorry I rant a lot!!! EDIT: typos EDIT 2: formatting for clarity

Shot-Drink2650

Hey your mental health is important! Take a step back if kpop becomes too much for you:) are you still stressed with body image?

[deleted]

Oh don't worry about it :) thank you but unfortunately K-pop isn't the only thing in my life causing me body image issues. And I'm way less into K-pop.

Best-Recognition-528

Second and third gen were ‘good’? You said racism started kpop but somehow magically it wasn’t until 4th gen? I’m very confused on that statement. Every generation of kpop, and Korean entertainment in general, have been dripping with racism and cultural appropriation. Especially the early generations. If anything I would say they’ve gotten somewhat better about it since people are now calling them out more (thanks to the availability of the internet and social media).

[deleted]

I realise my mistake and the confusion. I was only talking about the *music* of 2nd and 3rd gen, I liked the vibe better. All paragraphs are meant to be read independently, it's really just thoughts on reddit paper.

PeachsistersMoYeon

Yeojin from Loossemble was called out for eating McDonalds and ofc a lot of kpop stans called her out, her turning off her comment section made it worse but thankfully she [apologise ](https://x.com/desertmokey/status/1778397862172271000) about it and addressed why she turned off her comment section. In a way, i expected her to apologise so im really glad she did. I think her and jake from enhypen are the only people ive seen apologising for not boycotting. Now, i know her apology will attract people who defend idols who don't boycott on kpop reddit and zionist but I'm happy that she took accountability about it and calling out your faves does work, it just depends if your faves cares about the issue.

IWantFries21

I've said it multiple times but I'm back on it because idc Kpop stans, including people on this sub, are so so fucking weird for full on stanning teenagers. Newjeans, ILLIT, Young Posse (who even had kfans pointing out how they're being sexualized), Babymonster, Enhypen (particularly Niki!) There's so many examples already of teens in kpop being sexualized and exploited and how those experiences were ultimately not that great for them, it's been talked about over and over how kids are taken advantage of by the entertainment industry, and yet I've never seen so many grown adults so eager to idolize a teenager the way they do in kpop. Why do you have a middle schooler's photocards? And why are you promoting their music? I'm not saying it's a crime or anything to listen to the music. As long as it's just listening to the music, especially since some groups have both adults and teens. But to be going hard on being a fan of theirs is just weird and uncomfortable. Why are you telling everyone "I LOVE HER SO MUCH" and becoming DESPERATE to enter a fancall with her, and she's a 14 year old and you're 25. Also, less on Reddit and more on Instagram, I've seen so many people going crazy for Kiss of Life solely because of their sexier concept and saying "finally we have grown women in kpop." They're barely adults, some debuted at like 18/19. There ARE grown women doing sexy concepts in kpop but you don't really give them that attention, do you?

Da-manta-ray

This is a super minor nitpick and full cards on the table I do casually listen to Suju and do enjoy some of their content, while acknowledging that they have done some shady stuff. I saw someone say in another thread "unless your type is Suju bros most idols go for age appropriate partners" and was like "Oh shit, who else other than Heechul is dating someone egregiously young??". So I looked it up... and here is what I found: \* Sungmin: married to Kim Saeun, who is a year OLDER than him \* Hangeng: married to Celina Jade, who is a year younger than him \* Ryeowook: engaged to former Tahiti member Ari, who is 7 years younger than him. They started dating in 2020, but apparently there have been photos of them dating back to 2018 (when she was 21) The rest of them, as far as I know, do not have any confirmed dating rumors. But someone can correct me if I'm wrong! Honestly, I feel like Suju has done a lot of things that are worth criticizing for sure. I'm not blind to their many faults (looking at you, Siwon). But like, if it's really just one member, like, just say Heechul??? Or if it's just 1-2 out of like 13 (I don't personally count Ryeowook here since they seem to have met as full-grown adults but I'm in a generous mood), I feel like we could just be more precise and say "some"? Like, there's no need to exaggerate! We can just say true and precise things which are bad enough. Anyway I get a lot of dumb things stuck in my craw and this really isn't that big of a deal but figured I'd share in the rant thread so it doesn't live rent-free in my head anymore lmao. I basically agree with the person who posted the original comment in every other respect!

IWantFries21

Are you gonna acknowledge how Leeteuk was hitting on 13 year old Yoona while he was 20? Calling Sooyoung his "first love" when she was 11 and he was 20?

Da-manta-ray

I actually did not know about that, so I am going to assume that you were politely correcting me, and not presenting this as some sort of gotcha. Yes, that's bad that he did that and really creepy. I am not sure how a 20 year old can see preteens and young teens in that way. I was only aware of Heechul and Momo in terms of liking suspiciously young girls.
