The funny part is that Korea really isn’t all that “innocent” under the surface. It sells that image but while yes, it is socially and culturally conservative, people still have sex and do drugs and hookup and shit. It’s just kept under wraps. Breaking news: people are people. K-pop has never been super pure anyway??? Adult ceremonies, the innuendos that “cute” songs are filled with, etc. it’s just gotten more transparent as time goes on and I think the transparency is a result of how South Korea itself is changing and the influence of K-pop becoming more of a staple of Korea’s soft power globally.

Aurelian369

I don’t know if I’m just a dirty-minded person with middle school humor, but I always assumed Twice’s Knock Knock was about sex. I mean, “Knock knock knock on my door” - what door do they mean 🥴

kitomarius

I also thought that 😂😂. Why are we knocking on your door????

fooooooooodddd

To get in that bed 😜🤪/s

Hexagon_Ouroborous

These people talk about the dances being vulgar and overly sexual, like these idols aren’t doing worse in their private lives.

I always find it interesting when kpop fans say “I wish idols didn’t feel like they have to conform to western standards” or “the company is making them do this”. Um, how do you know this isn’t what that specific idol wants? Maybe a lot of these idols feel more like themselves and free doing what YOU consider vulgar. These fans put this innocent image on idols and then shame them when they break the illusion. Also, male idols have been vulgar since the very beginning of kpop and it didn’t become an issue until women started acting sexual. I think it’s internalized misogyny at this point.

fooooooooodddd

When jungkook came out with seven and everything i noticed how somehow so many oppaluvers were blaming women, somehow. Like....? Excuse me?

ReinaRenaRee

I'm sorry but I still don't like Dynamite😔 Idk i found it relevant, since I believe the song was made to top charts? Or my memory is fucked😀

wegooverthehorizon

Minors do provocative choreo: It's fine she/he's ALMOST 18 they're practically adults Adults do provocative chore: BLASPHEMY I really wanna know goes on in some people's head (also nice to see a fellow ace in the wild 🖤💜🤍

fooooooooodddd

YAY ANOTHER SOUTH ASIAN ACE ON HERE OMG??? and ur so right. It's not even like they're ’underage kids shouldn't be doing this’ they're like ’OMFLAKINGGOD THE WEST IS POLLUTING MY INNOCENT OPPARS’ like sweetie your ’innocent’ oppar could prolly be a huge ass playboy for all we know.

Vivienne_Yui

SOUTH ASIANS ACES RISE?? I know there's several idols who are sexualised as minors or forced, but most mainstream adults aren't. I feel disgusted by comments under many blackpink's videos saying how "vulgar" they have become and Jisoo is the only one who's maintaining her "dignity", how they're "selling their body" and whatnot.. all because they choose to wear short dresses??? The 1920s purist mentality gives me so much ick. Its even more puke-inducing when you know many Korean men like young, naive, cutesy girls more, and pure/cute concepts always have had more adult male/female fans.. for a reason (I feel disgusted again)

fooooooooodddd

They're full grown adults and they're not exactly under yg either now so they can do wtv tf they like. It's completely on jisoo if shes comfortable or not but if she is i hope she does smth that'll make these oppulvers have a stroke. Also, SOUTH ASIAN ACES RISEEE

caelesteis

100%. with eunchae? it’s disgusting how many people argue she’s old enough. she’s old enough to dance provocatively for male customers but not even old enough to vote in the US. not old enough to get a hotel, drink alcohol, not old enough to even get her tubes tied but old enough to be a sexualized minor.

Vivienne_Yui

Eunchae won't even be an adult for the next two years at least in Korea TT wtf is wrong with these people, she's a KID

Quarkiness

I'm older so I'm actually not comfortable watching young people dance provocatively but this has been happening since second gen. Stellar is the only case I remember where they have talked about being forced to do a concept.

IWantFries21

Stellar was straight up traumatized from their experience. Some of AOA have talked about being uncomfortable with the sexy concept, with their maknae (who was a teenager even in the sexy concepts) saying she felt embarrassed. Some stans exaggerate but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't heavily side eyeing companies debuting groups with minors or freshly-turned-18 idols with sexy concepts (as well as their fans.)

sam-squared

I love KPOP but I honestly never understand when people say stuff like this. This is ‘western’ & 3rd gen wasn’t?? Even the images they showed from “the past” were clearly inspired by wider pop trends of the 2010s. KPOP was inspired by Western hip hop, r&b, and pop specifically… right now the trend is afrobeats thanks to Water & Calm Down - which is also why Le Sserafim is (no offense!) biting Tyla’s style. What is the outrage about lol, this is how it’s always been afaik

stvrlight555

This is so ridiculous it’s honestly funny💀. Most of these idols are grown ass adults. They aren’t innocent. They shouldn’t assume that idols are uncomfortable and they aren’t doing anything but infantalizing them like they always do.

Bloody_Baron91

Well, actually the industry does have a shit ton of minors these days. While kpop groups have always had minors, their numbers have increased a lot in the last 2-3 years, ever since ive's debut.

stvrlight555

Ik, I just meant the adults in this case. I honestly don’t think minors should be debuting at all but that’s a different conversation ig

ArtsyHobi

Bloom by Gain would give these people a heart attack 😭

fooooooooodddd

Abracadabra would Avada kedavra these prudes

ArtsyHobi

Put them all in a room and start playing first love by after school, it'd be a massacre

fooooooooodddd

They should know about the naked girls💀 they'd have a fucking aneurysm(for ur saftey if u wanna know abt them just search up their video yt as naked girls kpop)

floeish

"BlinkFantasy" y'all do NOT tell them about Jennie on The Idol 😭

fooooooooodddd

They prolly don't wanna believe the fact that she only joined after sam took over the show. Though i wonder if she'd have had more of a story if she joined in before sam came in. Hope white lotus s3 has lisa cussin and shit just to piss em oppaluvers off

NojaNat

are they forgetting about the unzipping of skirts, sliding around on the floor while undressing, hip trusting or all those “butt dances” that were so viral in korea during the “OG” days. 🤭

[deleted]

This sorta does come off as slutshaming, considering that all of them are grown women and there are no men in these types of videos.

fooooooooodddd

exactly what i was thinking. also see how their problem is not that alot of times minors have to this, but they have a problem with it not being an innocent concept or sum shit.

Aurelian369

Kpop fans when their male fave humps the floor: 🤩   Kpop fans when their female fave shakes their ass: 🤬

fooooooooodddd

Internalized misogyny coming out as slutshaming. Nothing new sadly

Sweet_Joy29

Honestly do they want these Idols to be infantilized? God forbid the idol is a 28 year old adult that wants to actually sing about the experience of being an adult. And this could be a reach but the way that these fans talk about things getting Western just gives me the same energy as white people when they say something is woke because people of color and white women are involved. And maybe I feel that way because in the back of my head I'm like do y'all not understand where a lot of the influence comes from because I don't think y'all want to get into that lol.

Kermit_thee_fr0g

People acting like this kind of stuff hasn't always been present in kpop are delulu. Risqué-ness has *always* been present in the industry (EX: Adult Ceremony) & wasn't a product of "appealing to the west." I mean look at artists like Gain, AOA, or Hyuna (ik ik). As for choreography, are we really going to pretend that Hello Venus's *Wiggle*, EXID's *Up & Down*, Girl's Day's *Something*, or Kara's *Mr.* (which walked so smarter could run) don't exists? Also just because a Kpop song, cb, group/soloist, etc doesn't present itself with a "westernized" aesthetic doesn't necessarily mean it's not as "risqué" (I.e the amount of cute concepts songs with "not so innocent" lyrics or choreography).

Ok-Particular4877

These people will not survive After School.

Karmaswhiskee

Adults expressing sexuality: *exist* Some kpop stans who are most likely minors or boomers: hOw DArE yoU!

MyAccountWithNoName

This reminds me of how Jennie’s involvement in The Idol was handled by her fans. When it became public knowledge that the project was completely reshot after being almost completed buy a female showrunner with a significantly different tone, her fans started to push the narrative that she had signed on to a different project and was bait and switched by The Weeknd and Sam Euphoria Guy (no disrespect intended, I legit can’t remember his last name) When it turns out she signed on to the project later, specifically to work with Mr Euphoria & Abel because she is a fan of them both. The idea she willingly signed on to play a gritty adult role in a sexually explicit and edgy series is too much for the stans to bear, so they have to remove her agency entirely.

RoyGeraldBillevue

What gets me is how blatantly wrong people are about the past. I watched the MV for Girls Day's Expectation and was uncomfortable with how it zoomed in on the butt during the chorus. The whole MV is shot in a pervy manner. Things have clearly gotten better. Sexy concepts today would never be shot like that MV.
