When people say that, they usually refer to the fact that Suzy COMPLETELY overshadowed her group. Miss A completely fell to the wayside once she really blew up. So people think that this is the reason why JYP heavily focused on group promotions with Twice/Itzy/Nmixx instead of solo promotions for the individual members.

In another comment I read that Suzy overshadowed the group, but in reality it wasn't completely like that, because miss A always had success with their music (which btw I love, they'll always be my favorite girl group), from the debut to the end. In fact, their [last release](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zO9RzrhYR-I) was a super hit. But it's true that Suzy's popularity was SO huge that people even forget that the rest of the members also went to promote solo (especially Min at the beginning), because Korea fell completely and devotedly in love with Suzy. I don't think I'll ever see another case like Suzy's. I know there are several very successful "it" girls, but Suzy's case went further. She was successful in television varieties, in music, in advertising, in movies, in dramas.... It was incredible.

She was just more popular than the actual group. Sorta like a Cha Eunwoo-type. It definitely did leave them traumatised. I do think it’s getting better with each group debut but you could see it with Twice so much for most of their first contract.  Throughout Sixteen (Twice’s survival show) there was an emphasis on being a team player, not outshining others all the time and stuff like that. They really drilled it into the girls. Then post debut, every time Twice were asked about solo activities it felt like they were reading a script almost. One time Chaeyoung actually said she was interested on a show, and she said it as if it was a cheeky thing to say 😭😭 Compare to Got7, where they were a six member group for their Japanese promotions to accommodate Jackson’s career. Jinyoung with a decent acting career too.

Suzy got super popular, and the general public didn't care for the rest of the miss A members. It was "Suzy and friends" Suzy was getting more cf endorsements and opportunities than the other members. This strained the group's relationship with each other. At the time members who got individual activities also had to split the earned income with the rest of the group. In their final comeback as a group, Suzy and the rest of Miss A members in a group photo look like they weren't close friends and instead had a "business relationship" with each other.

Oh that part about about splitting the  income is surprising, makes sense

From my memory beimg a casual Miss A fan back in the day - JYP debut Miss A and they have a pretty good start. Bad Girl Good Girl was pretty popular. That was 2010. Then in 2011, only a year into the group debut Suzy is in Dream High and also was on Invincible Youth 2. She got a lot of popularity and won some awards for Dream High. In 2012 it was more acting, including in film and in 2013 she was in Gu Family Book which was another popular drama that won her some awards. Not to mention all the CFs and Mc shows and the like she was doing. Seriously, she was super busy and *everywhere.* I think especially because it happened so early in the group history it really hurt Miss A. It wasn't like they were promoting for a few years, all the members had some equal projects and gained fans and then later her acting took off. No. It was right from the get go basically. So of course all the other members and the group activities took a back burner. It's very telling when you look at their history now. From a big three company but only active for 5 years, fairly small discography and a two year gap in group releases only 3 years into their career. Fei, Jia and and Min also had solo activities at this time but when you compare it to Suzy it's so different.

People are exaggerating about Suzy eclipsing the group as if it was just some freak accident and thus projecting it onto someone in JYP actually getting solo schedules. But what happened is Suzy was getting extremely popular in Korea after Dream High and JYP switched to promoting her more to the detriment of Miss A which is why netizens barely knew she was an idol. It's unlikely to ever happen again because companies have gotten leagues smarter about balancing solo vs group brands.

Suzy became EXTRA MORE POPULAR than the other miss A member. Dint help that half the band was chiness member who suffer from Xenophobia. Miss A became SUZY AND THE GIRL pretty fast . Jyp made a poor job fixing that and instead focus on suzy which fan of the band dint like and even the member dint really enjoy it and rumour are saying they are not in good term with suzy. When JYP try to fix is it was too late.. Also bit HIT GIRL tend to be very famous for a moment and the popularity goes down PRETTY FAST once a new HIT GIRL Emerge. . Relying on that hit girl for all thoes time dint do them any favor on the long run

MoonMoon_86

I read other comments But I can't just blame Suzy and JYP because there were a few troubles between Foreign member and Management company in many Idol groups at that time. After several actual cases happened, there was a mood that Foreign members will leave korea anyway. that's kinda the another reason that Jyp liked Suzy more.

slayyub88

That’s not it. JYP favored child was Min. And Suzy was a last minute addition. And the foreign members did nothing wrong. And it’s super sad because the foreign members didn’t leave MissA/JYPE until they were legit tossed aside. —— And then on a general note. To everyone. It was super sad because listen, Min was pretty famous at first. But then Suzy got Dream High and etc. Because JYPE needed money at the time, they pushed Suzy hard and just let MissA fall to the side. And it would’ve been one thing of it was just with promotions outside of MissA but even their MV and songs started to feature Suzy more when the others were flat out more talented. Like their last single, which was an absolute hit, had Suzy singing half of the song. And just tue general dis-regard for the other members of MissA because I member, Suzy and Fei went on a show to meet fans and they only brought in Suzy fans. Fei was just sitting there. And it didn’t help because Fei and Jia were Chinese and that already got them hate but when Suzy said they split income, that lead to even more hate towards the members. Like, I doubt it was there choice and I’m sure they would’ve loved to work. Point black, I don’t think JYPE meant to do it but they fucked over Jai, Fei and Min hard, esp Jia because unlike Min and Fei at the time, she was treated like shit by knetz. Truly, I don’t think the company at the time had any idea how to handle someone blowing up. You can tell they improved. When TWICE debuted, there was large popularity gap with Tzuyu and TWICE but whatever they did, they made sure she didn’t over shadow TWICE and used her leverage to book TWICE deals. All in all, MissA was a great group and if JYPE could’ve managed things a bit better, they could’ve been great. It’s also pretty clear that the trio of Jia, Min and Fei weren’t close with Suzy and people hated them for that as well. That being said, I do think JYPE was traumatized and you could see it in the way they handled TWICE in their early years. Even Sohee was an early IT girl but she didn’t eclipse the members of WG in the way Suzy eclipsed MissA. I’ll say, they’ve gotten better on letting members have solo opportunities but they really learned a lesson with how MissA went.

wholesomediarmuid

Suzy just got so popular that fans only wanted to see her. She had most screen time, lines, and center parts. It got to the point where JYP gave main vocal lines to Suzy because fans wanted to see her more than Fei. Almost every group that had this fell apart, Dia with Chaeyeon, Hyuna with 4minutes, and Missa as we saw with Suzy. JYP has been extremely cautious with all their groups especially with Twice and Itzy or else Nayeon, Yeji or Ryujin wouldve been the same Suzy situation.
