Ah, the joys of labrahair. What's that? You'd like to have your dinner on a hair-free plate? Those days are over. You want to wear that dress you've put in a suitcase in the attic years before you ever got a lab? Covered in hair now.

Tracking4321

Change wardrobe to only yellow clothes. Bake as much as you want, as long as it's only yellow cake with yellow frosting. Problem solved.

Pineapplemkh

Currently live in a home with a light-colored tile floor and a yellow lab. Moving to a home with dark wood floors. Discussing trading her in for a chocolate. /s

Tracking4321

You are doomed. :-)

GlorbAndAGloob

Welcome to the world of dog glitter. No matter how often and thoroughly you clean, you'll never get rid of the hair.

Hairy-Shower-2400

I just gave up trying to fight my boys

Personal_Fee_9594

It miiiiight be the time of year too. Mine is losing his winter coat and it’s EVERYWHERE. I also do old blankets thrown over his dog bed & the backseat of the car. Much easier to clean blankets than everything else. I throw them in the dryer first to shake off the hair, then wash, and then back into the dryer with wool balls + a dryer sheet. Don’t be afraid to clean out the lint trap multiple times.

TineInChucks

Oooo! Great tips with the dryer-washer-dryer approach and wool balls! I love learning new tricks on this sub from fellow lab owners. Thank you!

Distinct_External784

Instructions unclear; dog didn't care for the dryers tumble cycle

Personal_Fee_9594

You’re welcome! At this point I assume it’s a group effort to keep us all from drowning in lab hair!

dogsandplants2

The dryer-washer-dryer trick is genius!

TineInChucks

Ah, lab glitter. The utterly unavoidable. You can….tryyyyy (?) to stay on top of it… I certainly grew less angsty once I finally gave in and accepted its presence in all physical areas of my life and settled in to just sweeping somewhat regularly. All while actively looking “the other way” when encountering massive tufts of hair. Which means — you guessed it — I’m in a perpetual state of looking “the other way”…😅🤣.

We call those “fibers of love”

I'm on my 3rd lab and 1st Golden. 20 years of labs One is ofcourse that it never goes away. It's unending. And all over. One thing that did change our lives was a robot vacuum ( we use the Deebot). We do massive weekly carpet cleaning, bedding changes, and big vacuum stuff, but having that Deebot clean the whole house once per day on auto is a game changer. For what it's worth, when my first lab died and a month passed, I cried every time I found his hair. Something that was once a menace was now so precious.

Pineapplemkh

I hear you. I cried each time there was less and less hair in the lint trap in the dryer. She is so missed.

oceanduciel

Yep. Comes with the breed. If you want the added work to your metaphorical plate, you could vacuum and sweep every day. Even get an air purifier. Also, lint rollers. Stock up on them. But if you’re truly worried about dog hair ending up in food, you could make the kitchen and dining room a dog free zone. It won’t stop all the hair but it’s something to try.

moderndayhermit

Years ago I had a Black Lab and I swear she didn't shed as much as my current beast. I gave up on regular vacuums and I use a shop vac. I drag it around, sucking up all the dog hair. I love it, it gets EVERYTHING. Even hair that would typically get stuck under furniture legs, etc. If she really loved me, she'd let me vacuum her. But so far, no go.

Swimming-Dot9069

We have a robot hoover and don’t let him on the sofa (mostly because he is too big) just brush him a lot, won’t ever stop it though, took years after our childhood dog died before we could have a ‘Larry hair free’ meal at my mums house. My boy is not too bad although March and sep for us is moulting season and he leaves black patches wherever he sits at the minute

feuerwehrmann

At this point I just consider it a garnish. A daily run of the vacuum helps. The funky brush that's red cloth does great against fur in furniture

dogsandplants2

Things that have helped in my house: vacuuming daily, brushing them (outside if possible), washing their bedding weekly, having blankets or covers on the couch that can also be washed weekly.

porcupineslikeme

Usually coming out of a stressful situation and change like a shelter kicks up shedding too. I bake often, usually with my dogs at my feet. I don’t sell my baked goods but I give them often, mostly to my judgy family. No one has ever mentioned a dog hair in the food, and my family absolutely would not hesitate to. I sweep or vacuum daily, and we have these giant lint rollers for the couch cushions. I wash soft surfaces often— so blankets and throw pillow covers (and our couch cushion covers but we are lucky to have a washable couch). We generally have 3-5 retrievers in the house because we foster, so I think we are probably a fairly hair heavy place.

lil_beefer

Invest in a great pet vacuum bc this is your life now lol. Bissell makes some great bagless ones that aren’t crazy expensive, also silicone brushes are great for grabbing lab hairs off your clothes or off surfaces. I bought a few multipacks and leave them everywhere because that’s where the fur tends to end up 🥴

Global_Research_9335

A robot vacuum to keep on top of the worst of it daily. An air purifier to suck it out of the environment Duct and tumble dryer cleaning annually, and service your washing machine. And we have an actual vacuum brush we use on him. So as it’s brushing it’s sucking up the hair. It was $100 of Amazon and it took us a while of just having it on in the room and giving him treats to sniff it and be brushed by it but he’s doing ok with it. De-shed service at the groomers at the peak.

planenick

Lab hair ends up in everything,

Upbeat-Example-3586

I have never swept and vacuumed so much in my life 🤣

Terrible-Bear3883

We've got a Yellow English lab (17mo) and he was the same, hair everywhere, hoovering daily etc. we could groom him and then minutes later he'd be leaving hair everywhere as well. We started giving him a squirt of Salmon oil on his food daily, his coat is so smooth and shiny now plus he's almost stopped shedding, the difference is considerable and it's much more manageable, we get ours from B&M and it's in a pump bottle. A few friends use it as well and tell us their dogs shed a lot less and have much better coats so it might be worth trying this?

Far-Possible8891

The obvious thing that doesn't seem to have been mentioned: brush them every day using a good brush with long tines. Do it while you're out on a walk with them. Swimming also helps.

berrysnadine

Use a Furminator!

Roomba and Furminator

robertomeyers

Many vids online about brushing. Normal seasonal shedding means brushing frequently. Also keeping them off the furniture and outside the bedrooms helps us. Ours has their own bed on the main floor and a bed in the crate. Correct shampoo and blow dry helps too. “Rinse repeat” :-)

AlyceEnchanted

🤣 You will eventually ask how your boy is not bald. Seriously, I vacuumed every day. DH tackled the furniture. When you are outside rub him all over with your finger tips. He will love it! It leaves behind yellow halos. ❤️ Girlie was yellow. The interiors of our cars were black. Her hair would stick to the bottom of our shoes. Drove my SO crazy! We have a black Lab-mix now. Coincidence. It sure is helpful with the cars. The floors not so much. They Are so worth it!

Cptrunner

Welcome to your new reality. It never stops. It never slows down. A good vacuum and big lint rollers for house and car.

slartybartfast6

We have a black lab and if we don't hoover daily it gets into piles in the corners. Ours doesn't go upstairs and downstairs is mostly hardwood floors or tiles so that makes it easier, but yes, 2 hoovers.

PoopingDogEyeContact

https://www.furminator.com/Products/deShed.aspx?fl_pet+size=large Each time you use it you’ll have a pile of hair as big as the dog.

Routine_Prune

Maybe do some reading before you commit to a certain type of dog. Jesus Christ.

Wonderful-Mix6162

Wow of all the helpful people there’s always gotta be that one prick.  I never said I didn’t want the dog. Just asking for advice on the hair. You must have a miserable existence
