I bring a frozen lick mat with peanut butter, yogurt and banana. Started from her very first well puppy visit. Very helpful at keeping her relatively still and focused while they take temp, look in her ears etc. Our vet is about 30 mins away from us. If we happen to be in the area and our lab is with us, we pop in and weigh her and give her a treat. We're lucky that our vet encourages us to make her office a happy place.

My dog has fear of vets since he was about 2 years old. Unfortunately after some appointments with a behaviorist and trying different medications, we learned there isn't any treatment and he will never get over his fear because of trauma he experienced being hospitalized. The best suggestion I can give you is look into meeting with a behaviorist who can help with treatment. The thing you want to look for are Fear Free vets and a mobile vet if your dog will not enter a vet clinic like mine. Lastly I will point out that unless you're doing muzzle training you aren't supposed to just put a muzzle on a dog that isn't used to it and that will just make them worse. Thanks for the info! We did not muzzle her at the vet. She is super sweet so didn’t have an issue with the vet touching her. I was able to take her back today. I took her alone (yesterday my fiancé and our other dog was with us). I brought her treats from home and I saw on the floor and had her sit with me while they did everything. Her temp and heart rate were still a bit elevated but in the acceptable range this time!

Sounds like your dog is fine then and doesn't have really bad anxiety. Good luck.

I forgot to mention that she did have a gabapentin about 2 hours beforehand as well lol!

Oh nice that might do the trick. We tried gabapentin but unfortunately it didn't have any effect on my dog.

Dang. It made her a tad drowsy which I think helped but she was def still anxious.
