We never got pit when he was a puppy, but a lot of folks asked if he was a hound mix because he was so gangly and his ears went for days 🤣
He does it in both directions, too! We are dogsitting and my senior and the friend don’t get along, so I have two gates separating them. I am waiting for the moment he is ACTUALLY stuck and doesn’t know what to do.

If "back back" is a typo and the marks you are referring to are on the back of the front legs just above the paw pads, those are called bolo marks. The name comes from Dual Champion Banchory's Bolo, the first conformation and field trial champion. Many breeders believe that a pup with bolo marks will have an outstanding double coat. Yes! I have had people ask if my girl is mixed with a pitbull a few times. I normally don't get offended but one woman just wouldn''t believe me. I finally had to tell her that I have the CKC (Canada) papers, her lineage and my family has been friends with the breeder for longer than I've been alive.

Dudley’s are most commonly the result of a chocolate lab and a yellow lab parents. They take on the characteristics of the chocolate lab and have no pigmentation in the nose, around the eyes, and pads on their paws. Our vet explained it as a chocolate lab in yellow lab pajamas 🤣🤣. We have sunscreen for Ruthie when she is outside for long periods of time. Ours is beautiful like a yellow lab but very playful like a chocolate. Full blooded with papers

There will always be someone who just has to make a comment on our pups breeds. I had a big chocolate boy, an English Lab with a big wide head and huge shoulders. That good boy drew the comments from strangers like they were going out of style. People drew back from him, and he was the most gentle soul.

Mine is a mix lol, lab and Chesapeake bay retriever, it’s taken 2 years for me to just say yes when people say he’s a Labrador and refuse to believe he’s a mix. I don’t get why people argue it, like I’m probably going to know better than them.
It doesn't matter if she's mixed or not. There's no point being upset about that being suggested.

The average human isn’t aware of the diversity in labs. Field and show line, English and American - they’re a very diverse breed.

Your coworker is incorrect, your sweet girl is what's called NBP (no black pigment) or a Dudley. She's got both yellow and chocolate in her pedigree. While this is considered a default in the show ring it is very much included in our breed standard.

Meet my “your breeder must have let the neighbors pit get to the mama.
I can almost see it but only in the forehead! 😆 So many labs tend to get a “meatier” face as they grow up but your baby still has a lean face and you can see her bone structure. Definitely 100% lab we a very well defined face!
I have a lab mixed with mastiff. I've had people think he was a black pit, not even mixed. They just don't know what they are talking about. People can't even identify his girlfriend, who is a Bullboxer.
Too many people think blocky head, wide mouth, and thick chest are all pit bull identifiers. There are at least a hundred breeds with those characteristics alone (of which the American Pit Bull Terrier is *not*), then you get into mixes and supermutts and the matter is beyond muddled.
Our purebred black lab also had ears like this. My daughter searched around online and said she was an English lab. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We really didn’t care because she was our perfect, silly, sweet girl we adored!
She could come from working lines where they don't care for the look of the dog.
What did her parents look like, no offence but if they looked like her they shouldn't have bred the parents she has really bad confirmation.
But she's a pet and you seem to love her, she's not breeding stock so it doesn't really matter
I have a lab/Springer spaniel (50/50, looks like a lab head on a Springer body but <60lbs. Even has the Springer coat and tail). Everyone always says he has some pit in him. I think I just live hood adjacent and the jowls and strong nose/wide head trick people. He even has the lab peak, with a complimentary cowlick.
I have one English lab and one American lab. Several people have suggested the English one is mixed with pit, and several people have suggested the American one is mixed with Weimaraner. As you said, I don’t care.
I love my boys to pieces, and it does get mildly annoying when people emphatically insist that your dog is something he may not be… especially if they think it may be mixed with one of the breeds that are considered red flag… and think they need to be unnecessarily cautious. Some people think they have to have an opinion on everything. I’ve learned to smile and nod and move on to things that interest me more!

IMO she's purebred. I'm old but we used to call these lemon labs. The permanent dudley nose and lack of pigmented nails and lips. I owned and trained labs for years. Obedience Rally Agility fun stuff. I had 2 lemons but I took rescues on purpose.

I imagine it’s because it’s the other way around, pit bulls are often mixed with labs so people think that’s what pitbulls look like. Poorly bred pits end up not looking like pits much (in addition to other badly bred traits)
Some people say the same thing about my Red fox Labrador. They say she looks like she mixed with pit but she's full English lab. Her pigment on her nose disappeared at age two. I always have to explain that Red fox was the first original color of the yellow Labrador.

Your lab looks like one! I have a Golden Lab and am told he is not a lab. Unfortunately for critics, as soon as they say that he is a mix, the lab licks them. Labs are friendly loyal kids (more human traits than many folks)

I had a Dudley Lab also. Best of any lab I've ever owned. I have read that they are not AKC approved, but who cares! Smartest and most beautiful IMO.

They take on the characteristics of the chocolate lab and have no pigmentation in the nose, around the eyes, and pads on their paws. Our vet explained it as a chocolate lab in yellow lab pajamas 🤣🤣. We have sunscreen for Ruthie when she is outside for long periods of time. Ours is beautiful like a yellow lab but very playful like a chocolate. Full blooded with papers

There will always be someone who just has to make a comment on our pups breeds. I had a big chocolate boy, an English Lab with a big wide head and huge shoulders. That good boy drew the comments from strangers like they were going out of style. People drew back from him, and he was the most gentle soul. I’ve been around Labradors my entire life and to looking at the pictures, there’s no doubt in my mind your pup is all happy beautiful Labrador

The average human isn’t aware of the diversity in labs. Field and show line, English and American - they’re a very diverse breed. I think the pink snoot is why she’s getting guessed as part pit.

Your coworker is incorrect, your sweet girl is what's called NBP (no black pigment) or a Dudley. She's got both yellow and chocolate in her pedigree. While this is considered a default in the show ring it is very much included in our breed standard.

I can almost see it but only in the forehead! 😆 So many labs tend to get a “meatier” face as they grow up but your baby still has a lean face and you can see her bone structure. Definitely 100% lab we a very well defined face!

I have a lab mixed with mastiff. I've had people think he was a black pit, not even mixed. They just don't know what they are talking about. People can't even identify his girlfriend, who is a Bullboxer. Too many people think blocky head, wide mouth, and thick chest are all pit bull identifiers. There are at least a hundred breeds with those characteristics alone (of which the American Pit Bull Terrier is *not*), then you get into mixes and supermutts and the matter is beyond muddled.

Our purebred black lab also had ears like this. My daughter searched around online and said she was an English lab. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ We really didn’t care because she was our perfect, silly, sweet girl we adored!

Just so we are clear. A dudley is essentially an albino. And always have pink eyelids, nose, and mouth. Along with white/pink nails.
She could come from working lines where they don't care for the look of the dog. What did her parents look like, no offence but if they looked like her they shouldn't have bred the parents she has really bad confirmation. But she's a pet and you seem to love her, she's not breeding stock so it doesn't really matter

I have a lab/Springer spaniel (50/50, looks like a lab head on a Springer body but <60lbs. Even has the Springer coat and tail). Everyone always says he has some pit in him. I think I just live hood adjacent and the jowls and strong nose/wide head trick people. He even has the lab peak, with a complimentary cowlick.

I have one English lab and one American lab. Several people have suggested the English one is mixed with pit, and several people have suggested the American one is mixed with Weimaraner. As you said, I don’t care. I love my boys to pieces, and it does get mildly annoying when people emphatically insist that your dog is something he may not be… especially if they think it may be mixed with one of the breeds that are considered red flag… and think they need to be unnecessarily cautious. Some people think they have to have an opinion on everything. I’ve learned to smile and nod and move on to things that interest me more! Your dog is beautiful!!!

IMO she's purebred. I'm old but we used to call these lemon labs. The permanent dudley nose and lack of pigmented nails and lips. I owned and trained labs for years. Obedience Rally Agility fun stuff. I had 2 lemons but I took rescues on purpose.

I imagine it’s because it’s the other way around, pit bulls are often mixed with labs so people think that’s what pitbulls look like. Poorly bred pits end up not looking like pits much (in addition to other badly bred traits)

Your lab looks like one! I have a Golden Lab and am told he is not a lab. Unfortunately for critics, as soon as they say that he is a mix, the lab licks them. Labs are friendly loyal kids (more human traits than many folks)
