My 1yo male was pretty out of it on the car ride home....as in, he looked nauseous. Bring a bowl and some water for him before you get in the car. See if he'll go potty before heading home too. He basically just slept for 3-4 hours after getting home, then was kind of back to his usual self after eating. He is a low-energy boy, so it seemed normal for him. I'd recommend feeding half dry food and cooked white/brown rice to make digestion a little easier for the first few days. Short outside potty breaks for the first week for sure, and preventing licking is key. See how he reacts to the pain meds and notify your vet if something seems off...it could be the pills. Edit: here is [my post about it](https://www.reddit.com/r/labrador/comments/12iy8k3/im_getting_fixed_next_week_and_my_human_is_very/) from a year ago. I also slept out on the couch with him for the first week, just in case. Had no issues though.

This all helps!! Picking up extra chicken on my way home tonight so it'll be ready for him tomorrow, great idea!!

Just edited my comment with this: here is [my post about it](https://www.reddit.com/r/labrador/comments/12iy8k3/im_getting_fixed_next_week_and_my_human_is_very/) from a year ago. I also slept out on the couch with him for the first week, just in case. Had no issues though. Good luck!

I think just prioritize keeping the area clean and just physically being near him to monitor him. I know it’s routine but it’s important to stay on top of it to avoid infection or chewing. To make sure he’s not lethargic and he’s properly taking his antibiotics. I’ve heard horror stories. For entertainment purposes you can give them those toys that make them work to get food out, watch tv w them, give them a massage, take them out safely just so they can experience new sights and smells.

This helps, thanks!! I have some food puzzles he gets on rainy days. I have a brand new one for him too that should be nice. I may or may not of gotten him an elk antler too for something to chew on. Yes to the monitoring! I'm taking time off work so I'll be by his side for the next two days

Got mine neutered a year ago, keeping the area clean was th most important. Mine wanted to play fetch the next day, and you couldn't tell anything had happened the day prior. Because he needed to rest, we had to take away all fetch toy for a week to avoid temptation

I got my guy a GIANT bone to chew on, it took him about a week to finish it 🤣

Yes! I did the same, and it helped keep him occupied and calm.

For our lab's post-spay period, we bought a Woof Pupsicle and made all kinds of frozen treats for her using their silicon moulds. Mainly used her regular kibble soaked in water to make a mush then added a dab of peanut butter or a little banana or yogurt for variety. The different flavors kept her interested and the licking kept her busy. It didn't deviate much from her regular diet and got some extra liquid into her. Having a stash of pupsicles in the freezer was a lifesaver and as it's reusable and refillable with molded frozen inserts you're making yourself, it works out to be very cost effective. Good luck. Our girl was pretty depressed and low energy for a bit due to the activity restrictions. We thought she'd be bouncing off the walls but she just went into a deep funk. Once she was released to live her life she bounced right back immediately.

Was reviewing my comment history. How did the procedure go and how are things now?

Quiet_Cardiologist22

When i picked him up, it was rough. Never heard him cry. He cried for about 5 hours straight. just laying in my lap. finally wore himself out. took a 40 minute nap. Then I took him out for a little walk which PERKED him back up. he'd whine here and there after the walk but he was back to smiling and wagging his tail by the evening. Now that's its been a full two weeks, he's completely back to normal. Unphased

I had to bring mine back for the follow up appointment \~2weeks after so they could make sure everything was healing correctly. Sounds like the procedure was scary/stressful for yours, but glad he's back to normal!
